Using HP614c as mass storage device - Like Raphael - Sable

Hello there,
I have seen for other HTC type handsets ( Raphael for instance )
when you connect the phone up to the usb port it will come up with the option of connecting via active sync, internet sharing or use device as mass storage drive.
Has anyone produced any software for HP614c that allows you to do this?
and if not is it possible?
as this was the only real advantage from the Touch Pro/Raphael that i could see over my HP614c running keyx rom
I am going to get rid of my Raphael and go back to my beloved HP614c full time . But i will miss this feature as it is useful for work etc

Search for WM5torage

many thanks...
have noticed its acually embedded in the latest ROM anyway
excellent

hermes and network tools

Hi,
I am a new Hermes owner and I am a networker.
So I am loking for anything related to network on Hermes to play with
unfortunately I am very confused with so many non-working applications for PPC. This is my first PPC device and I still couldn't go further then seeing my IP address on the device.
Of courser I can use it for any network application but I want to sniff, analyze, collect info...
So far, I've heard the following applications:
- VxSniffer
- PhatNet and Phatnet Pro
- Hitchhiker
- Commview wifi for PPC
- Windows Mobile Network Analyzer PowerToy for WM5
- Pocket Warrior
- CENiffer 3.0
- wififofum
- wifiknife
VxSniffer:
didn't work on my Hermes - don't know why but it says that it can't load driver.
it only worked once but then after a reset it gave the same error.
do you know the cause ?
PhatNet Pro:
didn't also work. but it never works. VxSniffer worked at least once.
Windows Mobile Network Analyzer PowerToy for WM5:
It works but really does nothing other than giving me obvious information.
Wifiknife and Wififofum aren't really doing anything sensible. Maybe just for fun.
I didn't try CommView, Pocket Warrior, CENiffer, Hitchhiker yet. But I really have no hope.
I've read the following article :
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1226&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
But it gave me no hope...
So I am still looking for software.
Which one really works on Hermes and really is useful ?
How do you use VxSniffer ? (I ask this because it was the only one that seemed like it would work and I see some people on this forum talking about it)
Does hitchiker or commview work ?
Please help me
????????
Well erm..... what is it you want to do?
Hitchhiker works if you want to connect to a network. Wififofum that you say does nothing sensible gives you info about networks in the area. That is what these sort of apps. are designed for. If you want more then you have to be more specific in stating your purpose.
At random I might suggest something like logmein as a network tool to control your PC, but I live in fear that you will say that's not what I'm looking for it does nothing sensible!!
You ask for apps that really are useful - and that's the point, useful for what?
More detail please?
Mike
ok; detail...
I am looking for network analyzing, packet capturing, sniffing tools.
also talking about wifi, wep key sniffing would be nice.
also, I am looking for an emule/edonkey client for PPC.
I have mobiphant but a better client (if exists) would be nice.
btw, what information do you get from wififofum (I mean information that standart builtin wlan tool does not supply) ?
logmein is a pc controlling software as far as I know from my readings throughout the forum. I need this kind of application but my limitation is that I can only use remote desktop protocol. (formy work pc)
now, you'll say "use the built in TSC" but it is not usefull with 320x240 screen size. So I tried Nyditot to achieve a higher screen resolution. Then it made my stylus unuseful (screen alignment problem)
you see, there are too many problems that I need to solve with my Hermes.
emule/edonkey, wep key snifers - get a life!!
Come on ...
Want to use your HERMES as a hacking tool?
Forget it ...
why not ?
hey guys, why not ?
I don't understand you.
there are these applications...
mobiphant is a working emule client. I used it and I even downloaded someyhing on the go.
I just couldn't find the right sniffing application.
commview and hitchhiker should be working. I just don't know how to install and use these.
if phatnet, commview, hitchhiker, vxsniffer, and other tools are written. then there is a demand. and also there is possibility.
so why not we don't use it ?
I don't understand why you are negative about this.
I think there is negativity because the combination of applications you seem interested in suggests that you want to drive up to someones house or perhaps detect the neighbours network, crack their wep key, and start downloading their files.
Or maybe you have just given the wrong impression??
Mike
I think it's wrong impression.
I am a network expert in a serious network and telco company.
I have high bandwidth internet access both at work and at home.
I don't need to crack my neighbour's wep key.
It's just that I love network tools and now that I have a new toy which can access wifi, I want to play with it.
I need network sniffer to troubleshoot my voip applications on the hermes.
I need the emule client to download ANYTHING from e2dk networks while I am connected with my hermes.
there is no evil idea. I just want to use tools that are available. I am not familiar with this pocket pc OS (I was a PalmOS user for 6 years) and I need help.
besides, if I need to hack my neighbour's network I could use my laptop with many available tools.
That seems fair comment to me.
Unfortunately not being an expert in this area, we'll have to wait for replies from those who are.
Mike
I've found another one: ministumbler
it's available at :
http://www.stumbler.net
and
http://www.wardriving.pl/new.php?nr=193
it seem like a new application however, it didn't work...
Maybe I am doing something wrong.
Should I enable wifi card or disable it before using such applications ?
as soon as I enable my wifi card it connects to my wifi network.
maybe this interrupts the sniffer application ???
I use WiFi Companion, so you can chack that out if it suites you
Here is the link: http://www.jiwire.com/socket-wifi-companion-product-review-1.htm
wifi companion seems like a nice application. should I install it to devşce or the storage card ?
any special instrucions ?
You can install it on storage card, it works fine from there..
No special instruction needed for network experts..
here is what i have on my Hermes.
btcrawler - bluetooth snarfing/scanning tool (not really that useful but fun none the less)
mtoken - serial/telnet/ssh client
pocket tty - ppc version of putty
sniffi - wireless scanning tool (btw ministumbler doesnt work on the hermes)
wififofum2 - wireless (not sure which one i like yet)
vxipconfig - release renew etc..
vxutil - ping/traceroute/finger/nslookup etc...
Others
CE Sniffer v3.1 - packet capture (like ethereal, i have used it on my old ppc havent installed it on hermes yet)
vxSNMP - read/write snmp (havent installed it)
vxSniffer - packet capture (havent installed it, but Cambridge software generally is very good)
WEP cracking - havent seen anything for ppc running windows. Generally you need linux on a IPAQ or similar.
thank you
I will try these...
However, I have a very generic problem:
when I install something related to wifi adapter, I generally can't run it.
all of the apps I tried say that :
"can't load driver"
"driver not loaded"
"driver not available"
I got these for most of the apps. Now I try the Socket Wi-fi Companion as suggested and I get a similar error:
"one or more components of WLAN tools were not found, or there are too few resources available to start the program. please verify proper installation of WLAN tools and try again"
I tried several times and the result is same.
My wifi is working. I am connected to my home wifi router now.
So what is the problem ?
Should I start these apps when my wifi is on or off ?
should I run them when I'm connected to a wlan or not ?
maybe there is a conflicting application I think but the only continuous running app is Wisbar Advanced.
What do you suggest ?
most of the wifi apps were written a while ago and dont contain drivers for the wifi in the hermes. A good example is ministumbler, it has not been updated for years.
You dont really need a wifi scanner to do more then tell you a network exists, if it is secured, what channel, power of the network, and if your lucky what brand of AP it is. sniffi and wififofum2 both do this and have gps tagging too.
There are plenty others out there though.
senergy,
I understand you but I can't run any of the apps that you (and others) report working.
I have a problem using these drivers on my hermes. what could it be ?
anyone using any of these sniffing applications successfully on Hermes ?
which vxsniffer version works on Hermes ?
vxSniffer.hpcPro_arm.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_I486.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_mips.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_sh3.CAB
vxSniffer.hpcPro_sh4.CAB
vxSniffer.ppc3_arm.CAB
vxSniffer.ppc3_mips.CAB
vxSniffer.ppc3_sh3.CAB
I still can't get further than "cannot load driver"
I'd go for the PPC ARM cab

USB stick feature

Hy everybody,
I'm new to this forum so please be a bit patient.
I have an HTC Touch Cruise phone and a Ubuntu Machine. What I want to do is copy files on to my Cruise from the Ubuntu Machine. I've heard of WMStorage (even tried it and it didn't work). I've seen though that the Diamond has a nice feature that asks to chose between active sync and mass storage device when connecting to a PC. Is there an alternative to that for the Cruise?
try Softick CardExport , works only for the tf card tho ...
We had exactly that question before...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415361
Edit
...oops. I missed the ubuntu-part. The threat I mentioned is for Windows only.
Sorry!
I got Card Export and it works like a dream. Too bad I'll have to buy it, but as long as there's no alternative that's it.
so what raphael is apear what possible to port some program for USB stick feature

Mass Storage Mode

Has anyone had any luck in getting the Treo Pro to function as a USB mass storage device (using WM5torage, CardExport II, some ported hack of the WM6 USB control panel applet, or some other solution)?
I'm considering getting rid of my iPod as the Pro works quite well with Kinoma Play, but getting the files on using Activesync is painfully slow, and pulling the card out of the TP to connect directly to my computer is, well, just not a realistic option.
Thanks!
I've installed "Wei enterprise's USB to PC" as all of the usual suspects refused to work. This one works - but only intermittently. There is a conflict between these and the Palm programme that installs activesync.
I have made it work by keeping an eye on the phone screen and "cancelling" whenever the installation programme runs. Once we get into the ROM Dump, hopefully we'll be able to uncook this activesync installer and make this work properly!

You probably don't need a rom cooking for that. Just try task manager v.3.1 from this forum, and go to service and device tab. One of them is your mass storage service ( be carefull, there is also a real storage service, which serves your SD and internal memory). Just stop it, and see how your program works.
If you don't know which one to stop, just post here the list of all running services, and I'll tell you what to try.

Which service are you talking about? None of them seem to be labeled as mass storage...
I tried nueMassStorage on my Treo 800w and my PC would intermittently recognize it as a mass storage device, but the 800w does not have any ActiveSync installer. Still the PC would lose recognition of the Treo 800w as a mass storage device and get it back every minute or so.
But even when my PC could recognize my Treo 800w as a mass storage device, the speed of data transfer was exactly as slow as when connected via ActiveSync. There was no improvement in transfer speed at all. When using a MicroSDHC card reader data transfer goes very fast, especially with class 6 cards.
Every program I've used to turn my Treo 800w into a mass storage device may or may not work, but none improves transfer speed at all.
Perhaps the Treos are just slow?
I do miss Mass Storage since all my Sanyo's and BB Curve had it. Loaded up movies Hancock, The Dark Night, Zohan and more in just minutes with it on my Curve. My current 800 does not have it.
Is there a program from the TP that works on the 800?

Is the file transfer rate any better than just using ActiveSync?

I just gave it a shot.... I don't think there's any difference. I suspect what they did is not switch off the treo service, but simply make a virtual mass storage device and still send the data through the RNDIS protocol...
Has anyone else tried it yet?
Did this ever get figured out or is the Softick software the best bet. I just go a TP yesterday and my car radio plays music off of external hard drives so I would like this feature back. Info? Anyone???

Linux-PC access on storage card possible?

Hi all,
is anybody here using Linux on his desktop like I do? I have Kubuntu 8.10 and wonder if it is possible to access the storage card of my Touch HD via USB. Unfortunately HTC did not include any adapters for MicroSD-card and with my Wizard I only used MiniSD ... Would be cool to at least have read & write access to the Touch HD storage card from my Linux PC.
Cheers,
Eriol

Add: When I plug the Touch HD on a Windows XP Desktop PC, on the Touch HD a window appears where I can select Active Sync or "hard disk" mode. This window does not appear when Linux is running one the desktop. Has anyone tried WM5torage on the Touch HD? I have heard that this app has problems with WM6.1 on Touch devices from HTC???
Hi,
I use Linux Mint (is Ubuntu with some additional program/feature) and when I plug in the USB cable I can see the msg: Activesync or HDD mode. And I didn't installed any program to support the PDAs. Once I select the HDD mode I can read/write to my micro-sd card without problem (even if the max write speed is about 3,5MB/sec....not so much). BTW I have the HTC HD TIM ITA branded, with Sandisk 8GB micro-sd.
Sorry for my english
no problem
I use linux and the hd works like a external disk when I plug it in.
Im on Intrepid Ibex here 8.10
I have the latest synce stuff installed and can browse the entire filesystem on my X1, install cabs and check the system information
Use synce-trayicon it's amazing!
If you choose that in Synaptic it should automatically add the dependencies but if not then I use synce-gvfs, synce-hal synce-sync-engine plus most of the synce relevant libs.
Oh yes, I've also got mymobiler running under wine, that's a bit slow but works as well!

Hi fards: That sounds interesting to me. I tried synce a year ago but didn't get it running with my HTC Wizard. As we are using (nearly) the same OS, do you know of a How-to? What programs have you installed for this?
Hi vivus: I tried it once yesterday; I plugged in my Touch HD and the control lamp showed that the battery was charging, but otherwise nothing happened, the Touch HD wouldn'd give me such option and Linux did not recognize Touch HD ... BTW, your English is excellent and I assume that most of us here aren't native speakers ...
Eriol
I second Synce, I run Xubuntu and it works here with Evolution installed.

As I said, try installing synce-trayicon it should automatically pick up synce-sync-engine.
I've not seen a tutorial that is upto date but the one on the synce wiki will get you up and running (although the latest builds of synce on ubuntu seem to work very well)
*edit* I've just re-read the latest wiki on hardy and it seems irrelevant, mine seems to work out of the box with the latest synce builds, I do have the ppa launchpad as a repo but only have one file from there
I'm using it over HAL rather then vdccm or odccm (synce-trayicon gives you the option to change which to use).
using synce-gvfs you can use synce:// in nautilus (or browse this device using trayicon) to view the entire filesystem in wm6

[Q] Samsung - Choose connection (USB or ActiveSync)

Hi all!
I need of a usefull application that I was used to use on my old Touch Pro (now I've a Samsung Omnia Pro).
When I connect the usb cable on the Touch Pro a small menu appears and you can choose if you want to you your device like an USB-Drive, with ActiveSync or Internet Connection.
I don't have the same on Samsung!
Is there a way to have the same feature?
Thank you so much!
Yes there is. It just doesn't show up automatically (or at least should be since all other Omnia models seem to have it). You can find it in the "Settings Menu>Connections>USB Connection" (more or less... my system is 6.1 and in Portuguese so it may be a bit different).
As a sidenote there is a tiny opensource app here (dci710usb). Been lookin for ages for a dev willing to implement cmd funtions to this app (so I could integrate it with Mortscript without using the GUI)...
