cant delete file! - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

hi all
Just getting used to my new Diamond 2 and ive got a problem. I was adding a few cab files last night and was not paying attention and copied a 52mb zip file across to the phone! Obviously i want to remove this large file but i cant delete it. It just gives me an error - i have tried deleting it through the pc but get same problem?
Any ideas guys?

Have you tried Total Commander?
A last ditch would be to use PIM or similar to backup all of your data to a MicroSD and hard reset.

The file is probably being used by either the PC or the device. Just restart the phone to make sure that no running programs have a lock on that file.

What is written in the error message it gives you?

all sorted. It turns out winzip was running in the background everytime i selected the file. Once i had closed that down it allowed me to delete the zip file.
Thanks for your help guys!

can't transfer cab files using activesync

Hi have started to get the following message recently when I use activesync 3.8 to copy over any .cab files. Have tried files that worked in the past and now they wont copy either The files appear to copy over, I can see the progress bar reach completition but then the error message pops up.
Error Message is
"Cannot copy xxx Access is denied. Make sure the device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only and that you have permission to copy this file type."
I am copying to a 1GB card, which shows as having 910MB free. I have tried to copy to storage too still don't work.
Any advice anyone?
well found a solution to this. Hard Reset.
now works as normal. not really the way to go for this but hey I had fun reinstalling everything again.

autocorrect.txt

Hi everybody,
I just noticed that on the universal /windos directory there is a file called autocorrect.txt, that contains the text replacement when you mispell something. I am not sure it is the one used by the system, but I tried to modify it to add my own words.
The problem is that this file is in rom, and I cannot edit or delete the file (I tried with total commander)
Any idea?
Copy to PC
Edit
Copy back, with overwrite..
Might have to use Resco..
Anyway, probably same procedure as with sym.txt
Yesterday I tried something like 20 times without success... With Total Commander was not able to clear the rom and system flags... I also tried disabling the autocorrect and soft rebooting, just in case the file was in use...
Today I tried - overwritten without any problem!
Thank you!

Unable to delete files under 'My Documents'

Hello all!
Sorry for this newbie question, but I couldn't find any answer in here to this strange situation.
I have put couple of files under 'My Documents' and now I cannot delete them (or move/rename etc.). Also I cannot add any files into this folder (or any sub-folders).
------------------------------------------
Cannot delete 'xxx.mp3': Access is denied.
Makes sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use.
------------------------------------------
And no, they are not write-protected or in use, so what is the problem?
HTC TyTn
WM5 (5.1.195)
Storage mem.: 56.96/37.03 (free)
Thanks in advance!
[email protected] so happy with this brick.
Have you tried soft reset and then try again?
click and hold the folder and/or files and make sure you havent set them to read only in properties.

Nah thought had forgotten something.
* I have tried both soft and hard reset - no result,
* of course I mark the file first and no they're not read-only.
If you read my description than I'm unable to add any files under my documents as well, not only with deleting them.
I can create a 'New folder' and delete this, but while creating it I can not name it - get an instant error...
Seems to be the typical joy of Microsoft.

I've exactly the same problem since yesterday.
But with Totalcommander I can delete and rename all.
I've restored an old backup, but the error is allways there.
edit:
Now I tried an Hardreset and replayed the backup. The error is away.
Hi!
I'm having the same problem. But I don't have a backup copy.
Also I'm beeing unable to connect thru ActiveSync. Maybe the problems are related. No problems when connecting with W2003, though. I think I will have to downgrade and live with it for the moment beeing..
Any ideas??
Thanks.

don't worry this has actually been common with a lot of the x2. virtually you have two option,
1.) use your phone normally eventually the files will return whether that take hours, days or weeks (bad option)
2.) try changing the registry to match this [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend]
"shc1:"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming]
"shc1:"=dword:00000000 (good option)
3.) just install the cab found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669157&page=2 at the bottom of the page.
4.) if all three doesn't work, well.... at least you tried make sure you back up your device regularly

These are fixes so that it won't happen again ... when it happened to me, I re-installed a program (in my case it was Garmin XT) and the files reappeared ... I think that doing that fixed the file headers on the card ... so if you have something that you already installed on the card, do it again and see if the files reappear ...

Exactly my case!
After memory card corruption I got everything back by installing an app....
i cant change the registry and the cab file dosnt work =(
the cab didn't work even after a soft restart? well you can always try option one and just wait and hope the files come back. the first time this happened to me after two days my stuff just re-appeared and i didn't do anything, so it is possible
So ti install the X2SDfix.cab I just load it on the memory card and then. . .

Put it on memory card, double click and when installing choose phone as install destination.
Done.
Thanks doministry.
Installed it but then had a problem with saving ANY pic or video. SO I deleted the DCIM folder on the MEM card and now everything is ok.
Thinking about adding the accelerometer cab but am afraid because some people reported their icons getting messed up. . .
Ok so i upload the cab file onto the memory card..and how then how am i supposed to install it?? I double clicked on the file but it says 'windows does not recognize file, choose a program to open it'. And i cant open the file from the x2 too =S

So than your file is corrupted or you accidentally renamed this.
Cab files ended .cab after double click just install themselves.
You can't OPEN a .cab file from X2 either.
Check the name or the extension, should be .cab.
If a problem persists download again.

[Q] Write Protection

Hello.
I have a problem with my device, looked at all relevant threads with no success and am hoping someone will be able to help me out.
My device is running all my programs as normal and everything is fine. I want to uninstall some programs I no longer need, but it fails. I tried reinstalling the cab over the installation to see if that helps, but that fails also.
I then thought about just deleting the program's folder and its contents using the standard file explorer. I get an error message saying "cannot remove X: access is denied......be certain the folder is not write protected and not in use"
This message appears on anything I want to do like copy/paste my personal files, notes. I cant rename anything either.
Is there a registry entry to fix this? I'm afraid of a hard reset not solving the problem and then having no registry editor and not being able to install anything on the device.
I hope I have made sense in my post. If you can offer any help, thanks.
