autocorrect.txt - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi everybody,
I just noticed that on the universal /windos directory there is a file called autocorrect.txt, that contains the text replacement when you mispell something. I am not sure it is the one used by the system, but I tried to modify it to add my own words.
The problem is that this file is in rom, and I cannot edit or delete the file (I tried with total commander)
Any idea?

Copy to PC
Edit
Copy back, with overwrite..
Might have to use Resco..
Anyway, probably same procedure as with sym.txt

Yesterday I tried something like 20 times without success... With Total Commander was not able to clear the rom and system flags... I also tried disabling the autocorrect and soft rebooting, just in case the file was in use...
Today I tried - overwritten without any problem!
Thank you!

Renaming Mfc80u.dll

Hey all, i have a problem with viewing images in "pictures & videos" after installing a dialer skin.
I've heard that i need to rename Mfc80u.dll with total commander for it to work.
I went into the total commander & tried setting the file off of read only. It wouldn't change. I tried renaming it. It wouldnt change. I even tried deleting & moving the file. Nothing worked.
Does anyone have a solution to this? I'm not a big fan of losing everything & hard resetting.
Thanks in advance!
Try Resco File Explorer, that should work!
I cant even find the file under resco. However, if i go back with total commander, the file is there.
Rasco will hide all *.dll extension files by default. go into file/options/view and uncheck the hide option to see this file.
So you're saying that Resco File Explorer can change the read only flag on a file so it can be writable Molski ??
Most odd. I've always been able to use File Explorer, turn on "Show all files" and delete the file (you don't need it) without changing any attributes.
Bear in mind that there are TWO files very similarly named and the second one is untouchable ... luckily it's NOT the one to delete or rename

How to modify files in Windows folder?

I tried to modify and delete trivial files in Windows folder,
but I cannot delete it anyway.
I also used total commander to modify file's write protection off, but the protection is protected by something.
I had no problem of messing with files in the folder when I used AT&T's rom.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem??
I'm using Schap's 4.00 rom.
Would suggest using resco explorer. Its a commercial app though but you can use it for a trial period (I think it was 14 days). This allows you to do just about anything. You will probably find that the files are being used or are in the ext rom. the file explorer that comes standard WONT allow any altering of these files. As I said, Resco will but it will give you warning that change could damage os. Hope this helps..... Cheers
If you are using Total Commander, select the file you are having trouble with and look at the file properties. If it is in rom, it will show a check mark in the bottom box, and should be greyed out, meaning that you can't change that.
Yes, it was Rom file, thanks.

Registry Editing

Hey Folks!
How can I do registry changes?
I DO have mobile registry editor installed, and it connects to Polaris fine!
But whenever I try to create a new Key, it says "acces denied" (or the equivalent in german actually).
Also I tried to copy a chinese wince.nls file to the windows folder and I couldnt because it said I didnt have the authorization for that..
what is the problem??
thx in advance
I use the PHM Registry Editor. I don't have any problems so far.

For copying files I use the Total Commander for Pocket PC.

I noticed that every time I tried to modify the system files via ActiveSync/Mobile Center I got an error message (I'm not allowed to blablabla...). That's why I installed the programs above so that I can modify the files directly with my mobilephone.
Nice
Nice man, seems to be working!
Thanks a LOT! I was about to get crazy

REDIAL.EXE and Redial.exe in Windows folder

Hi all,
I just upgraded a couple of days ago to Dutty's latest ROM. Thanks to Dutty for the ROM its great stuff and thanks to CrackWhore for writing the dummies guide to installing it. I had it all messed up until I found that.
Anyway I renamed a copy of of the MSVC exe (voicecmd.exe) to REDIAL.EXE and then copied it into the Windows directory and overwrote the original using Total Commander. I tested it and my double tap on the answer button of my headset was working as expected and starting MSVC - all was good.
Then I soft reset my phone and the next day I went to double tap for voice command and instead it did a redial. Weird right. Anyway I tried copying the file over again using Total Commander it prompted to replace the smaller file "Redial.exe" I confirmed and then got an error stating "Cannot copy or move file!". So I look in the windows directory to see what's there and to my suprise there are two files "REDIAL.EXE" and "Redial.exe"! WTF! When did Windows become case sensitive?
I tried deleting the uppercase version using Total Commander and got "Could no delete 1 files(s)!". Same happens if I try and delete Redial.exe.
Any suggestions on how I might fix this?

Click to collapse
What's weird about it? There's a file in ROM called redial.exe, and it does exactly this - redial the last dialed number, it's weird to expect a file with such a name to do something else if you ask me.
If you do want to overwrite this file with something else though, try to copy the file you want to rename for somewhere else, not \Windows, rename it there and then copy to \Windows using TC or Resco Explorer - this should work. It doesn't matter what case you use, I think.
Hi vangried, thanks for the reply but I think you missed a bit of my message.
I did exactly as you suggest to replace the file with a copy of voicecmd.exe renamed redial.exe in the first place. Then after a soft reset I've wound up with two copies in the windows folder - one uppercase and one title case. A soft rest shouldn't change any files let alone put two files with the same name but different case in the same folder.
I was trying the process you suggest and getting the error described in my first post.
Worked for me
I replaced Redial.exe using the same case and it worked for me.
I'm using HTC diamond, WM6, ROM 2.0.X
I used this to get rid of annoying redial when I accidentally puch the button of my BT headset.

cant delete file!

hi all
Just getting used to my new Diamond 2 and ive got a problem. I was adding a few cab files last night and was not paying attention and copied a 52mb zip file across to the phone! Obviously i want to remove this large file but i cant delete it. It just gives me an error - i have tried deleting it through the pc but get same problem?
Any ideas guys?
Have you tried Total Commander?
A last ditch would be to use PIM or similar to backup all of your data to a MicroSD and hard reset.
The file is probably being used by either the PC or the device. Just restart the phone to make sure that no running programs have a lock on that file.
What is written in the error message it gives you?
all sorted. It turns out winzip was running in the background everytime i selected the file. Once i had closed that down it allowed me to delete the zip file.
Thanks for your help guys!
