Apps to SD - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I am currently running cyanogen 4.0.4 on a myTouch, I had about 70-80 applications installed on the phone and started to see a huge lag issue. I recently wiped the phone and started everything from fresh and the phone is working the way it should be. I have a 16GB SD card and looked into Apps2SD but is that the only option I have to run my applications on my SD card to keep my phone performance the way it is now?

Does anyone have any input?

apps2sd wont make much of a difference. i have 130 on mine and it runs fast. do you use setcpu or overclocker widget or anything like that?

Getting alot more of "Force Close/Wait" errors? Random timeouts?

Hey all, was wondering is there something that could be causing apps to randomly timeout and ask for the force close/wait? I get it on Messaging, phone, contact random apps.
I do have it rooted and running on the SD card the apps. 2 GB but happened before I moved the apps to SD too some. It works still if I click wait, but just was looking for some insight. Thanks. =)
Out of curiosity, what is the exact SD card you are using? Just wondering if the data transfer rates might mess things up a bit.
Kingston 2 GB is the one, but before that was the one that came with the G1, Just seemed to have have timeout I guess.. but as I said clicked wait and its fine. But just not sure if its a App causing slowdowns or what. Sad part is.. my Free version of the old Power manager keeps crashing out now.
It is your SD card. The one that came with the G1 is a class 2, which is way too slow for something like that. It is recommended you have a class 6 card. I use a class 4 card, and experience a bit of lag. To get around this I chose not to move the cache to the card and I suggest you don't either. If your memory card is slower than a class 4, then I recommend you don't use your apps to your SD.
Well thing is, I had this before when I didnt use apps on SD. Was it still caused by the card before the switch as well? Justwondering. =)
I mean least everything still works fine, I can "live" with the lag on some operations, just wanted to see if it was normal. I know task manager says a few things are open in the background. I didnt know shopsavvy stays open in the background tho.. (even after a restart)
actually i have a class 2 8gb sd card and i have about 60 apps to sd and phone runs fine o_o

Internal Memory issue

Just to clarify I am not talking about the storage in the device.
I have noticed ever since I have got this mytouch that the internal memory is low. Sometimes its around 17m and creeps up to 21m at times. I have looked at other peoples devices that are not rooted and have noticed way higher memory available sometimes in the 40m. I am seeing this using advance task killer or even linda file manager shows this available memory number. My device is rooted with the latest 4.2.8.1 mod. I have an 8gig sd card partitioned in 3 portions and one of the portions is a Linux swap file thinking that this would help it run smoother. I look at the running apps in the advance task killer and some of the time there is 4 apps running. I kill all of them and it boost up to 28m But then later on it comes down to 20m. I have heard people having up to 70m on their devices. I have never seen that ever since I have had this device. Has anyone heard of up to 70m before on a mytouch? Maybe I am hearing lies or whatever but this is confusing with the internal memory and what it should be and what people have seen and what I have seen on my device.
So my question is what should the advance task killer say is normal for memory available on the mytouch if all apps are closed besides advance task killer? Has anyone ever seen 70m here? If you have 70m then tell me what the heck are you running? I am not happy with sometimes seeing 17m and the device is slow as a turtle. Is there a way to use a part of my external sd memory card as internal memory within this os. I dont think the swap file is the trick to gain more memory for the device to use when more memory is needed internally.
Strange my rooted phone has 39M right now...
This site tells you how to move the cache (Tip #3)

hope this helps you
if your device is running slow...something is def wrong....i just got my wife a new phone (same as yours) its rooted running the latest cyanogen mod...no theme on it...and it fast!
her mem show anywhere between 25~40 when advanced task killer is used
hope that helps...
maybe a wipe and re-flash will get you running faster.

Apps2SD Nexus One and Battery Performance

Don'y know if anyone observed this or not:
My N1 with a2sd enabled consumes more power than without. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone as need to access SD requires additional power.
Anyone observed similar pattern with a2sd?
What does it have to do with app2sd?
That just points out what applications you can move to the sd-card.
You can do that without app2sd too...
Mod edit: Let's keep it friendly here, guys.
LOL I have not notice but I have notice a crazy lag to load icon stored on the sd card maybe I need a better class. I been doing ok on battery so far down clocking to 700mhz and flashing it to MIUI but I wouldn't doubt my app2sd drains battery since is probably always scanning to free cache.
Let's keep it friendly in here, guys.
Personally I haven't noticed any battery drain with the Froyo / Gingerbread Apps 2 SD / Apps 2 USB Storage. While that's a little different than the Apps 2 EXT, but I would imagine them both to not use much power at all. Both internal memory and USB storage use NAND flash memory, and it would be reasonable to assume that they use similar amounts of power.
Spx2000, you could have some issue in your particular installation. Perhaps try wiping cache and Dalvik cache and/or do a full wipe and reinstall your ROM.
I think there is a problem with App2SD that seems to have started with an update a few weeks back. In fact, until I started reading the comments here, I had no idea that it might be the cause. My Nexus One has had extremely slow performance and a slow battery constantly for the last month or so. It all started at once. It was around the same time as the 2.2.2 upgrade, but I swore it started a little earlier. Today I went and turned off the option to check downloaded apps in Apps2SD and it seems that my Nexus is back to its old form. Something must be wrong with the App2SD feature that scans downloads. It doesn't show up as the App2SD process slowing down the phone, but you see system load from processes such as init. If you have the problem, I recommend turning off the App2SD option which checks downloads to see if that eliminates the problem.
it is true that if I use the app in SDCard consume more battery?

Droid X touch screen freezes after unlocking

I noticed lately that when I get a phone call, I can't slide to answer when the phone is locked also when it is sitting for awhile charging or not, when I slide the lock button, the touch screen freezes and takes a few minutes to recover before I am able to make calls, text or use any application.
My DX is rooted andI am running leaked Gingerbread, however I was having the same issue with the Stock rom. I do not use any task killers.
I have installed Droidwall and Titanium back up.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you overclocking?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
No overclock, no task killers. I use titanium back up and did not freeze or remove any apps. It is strange and reminds me of a laptop coming back from the hibernate estate, it takes a few minutes to reset and then is good to go.
Mine has been doing the same exact thing!
I have removed fancy widgets which is a nice Clock/Weather combo widget but I have a feeling that it might be the culprit.
I'll keep posting any findings and again help from the experts will be greatly appreciated.
We need to compare our installed apps to see if there is a common one. I don't have fancy widgets but I have MUIU clock/weather app and it seems really wonky.
I have pretty much traced this down to a bad MicroSD. Oddly, my PC will still be able to use them. My Nexus One wouldn't even touch the SD card that was freezing my Droid X.
Looks to me like Motorola left something out of its SD or FAT driver.
Is there a fix?
Right on the dot. I removed the SD card and "voila" no more slow downs. I guess must be something. related to the drivers, as you mentioned.
Today, I put back the Sdcard and gotfrom the Market place an overclock applicatkon called Droid Over lo k. So far is going good and very fast, however overclocking is always risky and shortens the life of any processor.
I'll keep you updated.
didn't work for me... seemed to help at first but I got the lock ups again today. About to move on from Motorola.
OK! After trying different combinations such as SD card, no SD card, Rooted, UN-Rooted etc.
Finally, out of desperation, I got my old HTC and pulled out the 16G SD card, put it on my DX and used it for 3 days with no freezes or lock ups so far. The funny thing is that this SD card that I put in, is a low end cheap Polaroid brand.
I'll keep you updated
It is a known fact that the SD cache is low on the Droid X. Higher class cards will have problems unless the cache size is raised. Even than, it's not a guarantee for success. I have a Class 10 card that caused crashes daily until I installed a mod for the cache size. Didn't solve all of my issues, but it stop the crashes.
You are absolutely right. I have been doing ok with the low end card. Recently I got from the market an app called SD Speed which raises the card cache and no matter which card I use now the systrm runs very smooth.
Thank you all for the help and feedback.

[Q] Issue with phone memory

Greetings all
I have a HD2 running Android. The ROM is DL DesireZ v2 internal. software number 1.72.466.4
I am at an understanding there is a new version out but the flash I have atm is 100% working besides one thing....the phone memory.
When I first flashed it I had loads of phone memory, I think it was like what, 150mb?
But I downloaded lots of apps, even used the Apps2Sd app to save space on the phone memory.
So after a while, I ran out of phone memory, how? I have no idea.
I have deleted all the apps I had and I still have <10mb space on my phone memory and I can not find ANYTHING on the phone memory taking up this space.
Anyone else have this issue?
My gf is going nuts at me over this, she said she may as well have the Win 6.5 back on it, since she had no apps anyways
Cheers,
Gib
yea i have the same problem..
all my apps are installed on my sd card or my ext3 partition.
still i have very little phone memory available.
somehow it looks like the phone is saving the app on the phone but then moving it to the sd card without removing it on the phone memory and causing data loss?
also when updating an app i just lose a lot of internal memory..
how is it possible that there are a lot of people with this problem (i searched the forums) and nobody know an answer to this?
