Mark message read when first opened, not delayed - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I tried searching but couldn't find anything to solve my problem, maybe I was searching for the wrong thing but here's my dilemma.
I have a brand new Sprint TP2.
When I read a text message on the messages tab in Manila, neither the little number in the scroll bar or icon in the notifications bar goes away (marking it as read) unless I leave it on the message for an extended period of time. Does anyone know a registry key I can edit to shorten this time, or another work around.
Thanks!

I noticed the exact same thing... really annoying when the text messages are short and you can read it in a split second... seems to have some sort of a time limit before the notification goes away...
there has to be a registry file that can be edited to make the time go to 0...

Yep, does my head in too!
There HAS to be a way to reduce or remove this...
Anyone?

Yes I've noticed this too.. It's very annoying.
What you'll also notice is if you are texting someone with the WM6 interface and keep the contact's text window open, it never marks new texts as unread. So when you go back you'll have all these new texts.
However if you use HTC's interface you don't have this problem but the HTC's interface doesn't work very well and it's not very dominant.

YES! I couldn't pinpoint what the problem was, but that is ANOTHER issue I'd like to fix.

See this thread:

Copy the dll to your windows directory and reboot and all will be well.

caller i.d sometimes doesn't show ?

Hi all, I've got a strange problem that I haven't found posted here before, sometimes, not always, when one of my contacts calls me the phone will display the number instead of the persons name.
Has anyone seen this before ? am I doing something daft ? and / or is there a way round this.
TIA
from what i understand sometimes it gets closed down and is automaticly restarted after awhile
showing that odd icon shortly
if you recieve a call while it's shut down then it dont display
If you have a problem and it doesn;t load, then go to /Windows folder find IA_Caller_exe make a shortcut to it and place it either in the Start menu folder, or the Star up folder (if itsn;t already there)...
When you see your problem hit the Start menou shortcut and it is once again reloaded...
It is not a solution, but still an answer to your problem...

I have to same problem too... anyone found any solution to solve this problem on XDA IIi? please help

Is there any software which can do this?

Basically I am looking for some software which, on receipt of an SMS will initiate an outbound call to a number in the contact list on the phone.
something along the lines of :-
SMS received from 1-555-5555 containing the word CALLBACK and a password.
Phone then dials 1-555-4444 or any specific contact as defined in its config
it doesn't have to use the contact list but must be triggerable remotely.
Target device is a HTC Hermes. and possibly a StarTrk
The program doesn't need to be stealthy, it's to initiate the call with full permission from the owner but without intervention.
Partly it's for my grandfather, if I give him a Startrk then I want to be able to activate a call remotely if I get notified that he has triggered his medicalert system, so I can try to see if he is ok without him having to answer a call.
I googled, and found nothing, I'm hoping someone here can either write an app that can do what I need, or suggest a product that will enable me to do this.
Auto answer is too generic, I want it to be just for myself and not all callers, and the password is because there may be times I just want to send a generic SMS
Sounds like you are talking about an SMS Callback trigger, though I have never heard of a mobile based one.
I always seem to want the impossible or the unwritten maybe it's time one was written?

just unwritten, it's not impossible
pretty easy actually
i'll try to throw some together this week if/when I have the time
try this
Just place it on the phone and edit the config.ini if needed default settings are:
trigger = CALLBACK
password = pass
I tested this on my TyTn2, and it seems to do what you wanted, the program will activate the speaker when calling (can be changed in the config.ini)
this way if your grandfather cannot reach the phone he still be able to talk..
But test it before use, I'm not sure how sensitive the mic of the phone is.
I do like the idea so I'll probably add some more functionality
- auto pickup on call from fixed number
- status
- call/sms log
Let me know what you think.
PS. this was created for a touch screen device not a smart phone...
also I can not be held responsible for damages, phone bills etc.
but that goes without saying ..right
-=edit=-
tested by sending an SMS to myself, the program then called my number, but when i tried with a friends phone it didn't work
let me know if it works for you (if you have 2 phones)
also make sure if the number you send it from is in your phonebook or not (could be the issue)
-=edit=-
that is the issue, working on it
Issue solved
now I need to figure out how to replace the attachment
I'll add it in a new post
I also believe SKSchema can do this in watch mode. Actually SKSchema can do lots of cool things in watch mode.
new version attached
-=edit=-
build a cab, also added apptodate support
is it just me or does it seem to autodial the number that sent the SMS?
one addition would be the facility to set the option that if number X sent the SMS then callback to number Y
example - if I am in the US I will have the number 1-555-1234 but my grandfather is in the UK - +44-555-5555
I run a voip line with a UK DID number such as +44-555-6666 so when the SMS is received from 1-555-1234 the return call goes to the +44-555-6666 instead of the US Cellphone (cost reasons lol, UK landline free, international call of any length = US national debt)
Here is a SMS Trigger I built, do not know if that satisfy you.
Check rk-SMSSwitch under my signature.

Sorry, i just noticed this reply
To be honest i wasn't planning on creating one, but i could give it a shot
the biggest problem is i don't have a Smartphone to test it on..
I'm sure you could probably find a few testers in the forums, there's quite a lot of people on here!
I'll obviously be willing to test anything you are able to come up with. I don't know where you are located mr gee but on ebay UK you can buy an old Orange spv c500 (HTC Typhoon)or c600 (HTC Tornado I think) really cheap now. There are also WM6 roms available for these devices on this site somewhere.

Attached is the same program but compiled for a smartphone, I'm not sure if it will work, I remembered I have an emulator for smartphone installed, but I received an error message when running the exe.., I think because the CF.NET wasn't installed..
let me know
I tried it on my QTek 8500. The exe ran but all I got was a window with a blue background and the words "SMS2Call v. 0.03" in black.
No buttons to press or anything, had to use Task Manager to exit it. Which id did without complaint. Thanks for trying, some work may be needed I think

Currently that is the program
Could you try to edit the ini file?
in case you have 2 phones, add the number from the 2nd phone in the file
save and run the program
send an sms from the 2nd phone with the passcode mentioned in the ini file
your 1st phone should call this number after the SMS receipt
I know the program doesn't look like much but i might fix this in the future
when i do i'll also look at the exit button.
the reason i didn't was because the application was for an older person,
this person could be playing around with the phone accidentally closing the program ...
I looked in the .ini file and then tried sending a text to the phone containing the words CALLBACK PASS. I tried this with/without a space, up and lower case, with the program in the background or on screen but it didn't do anything. Do I have to put a shortcut in the Startup folder or something? Or am I not formatting the text message properly? The sending phone number is in the contacts list if that makes a difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Could you just not set his phone to auto answer ? - that way you can call him any time.

not really, assuming it works maybe it has to do with the formatting,
Callback should be in capitals and pass in lower letters.
when I tested this with my TYTN2 it worked the way it should.
also did you enter the default number ? e.g. the number that will be called?

[sarcasm]
Gee why didn't I think of that...
[/sarcasm]
Seriously have you read the thread?
the topic starter didn't want it this way for several reasons...
Default number and closed flip
I didn't enter a default number because I want it to respond to any number that sends the text. I deleted the DefaultNumber line from the config and it worked, to a point. The phone I'm running it on is a Qtek 8500/HTC StrTrk, which for those who don't know, is a flip phone. My problem is this, if the phone is closed when the text is received the call is made but cut off immediately because the phone is set to hang up calls on closing. Nowhere can I find a setting to stop this from happening, anybody have any ideas?

SMS bug - WM6.5

FYI:
HTC have confirmed that there is a bug with WM6.5 that shows that you have an unread message, while you clearly don't.
A fix is being prepared by Microsoft.
Never knew about that...
But knew about alarm ringing alarm and notification sound mixed.... and alarm does not stop... in the morning.
Battery additional info reseted to "0" so no historical info there....
No option to light signal for more that 5 minutes (thank god there is a registry tweak for that).
Well. I'll keep waiting.
PMoto
I am having exactly the same issue and posted it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579772
Thanks for the update loadstone007...hope both MS and HTC start rolling out fixes for the various bugs in 6.5!

What about the other bugs? Or am I the only one having them:
-Extra blank line between input-box and suggested words-line. Meaning the suggested words-line cross the "send"-button, and when you're picking a word, you accidently push "send".
-TouchFlo/Sense now only shows 160(?) letters in SMS-dialogue. Almost all my sms, in and out, exceed 160, so to read sms now, I have to use the Windows-dialogue(inbox). This was not a problem on WM6.1
-The input box and keyboard overlay the sms-dialogue, so what you see when you write a new text, is NOT the last you recieved, but 2 or 3 messages back in history. The newest ones are hidden behind keyboard, instead of scrolled up.
The weird thing is that these don't seem like bugs, just.. bad construction.

Yea, I'll say it's sense/manila/tf3d, but all the problems occured after the official 6.5 update.
BTW, the one bug, with last SMS's being hidden by keyboard and textbox, is the same in WinMo(inbox). Just check, go to a conversation in your inbox, and whip up the keyboard. The keyboard and text-box takes most of the screen, and what u see above it, is not the last message of the conversation.
They are not bugs, just bad ideas badly implemented i suppose. Yep, the one with send button is driving me crazy

I seem to recall there was a hotfix for this for 6.1, called something like "hotfix for fixing the problem with the extra white line when writing sms"? And still they don't implement the fix in the next version?
Hey guys i got the issue fixed using a little tool to clear the message count. Check this post, and thanks to onthemail:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1519862&postcount=3
Run the program and do a soft reset - wait a couple of seconds and the annoying green message count will disappear. If not, do it all again (run program and soft reset) and it should def work.
Good luck
Cheers

Although I'm not experiencing the exact same problem the topic starter posted, I'm also having a problem with the HTC SMS. When I go to contacts, choose one of my favorites, go to the sms tab and send an sms from there, sometimes the sms doesn't show up in the thread, it just totally disappears from the device. As far as I know the messages are sent to the person, but it's annoying to me to not be able to read back what I wrote.
Anyone familiar with this problem and has a solution for it?
Thanks in advance!
I get quite a few Joke texts sent, but the long ones allways get cut off near the end. Some of them must be 4 or more texts long. I didnt have this problem until i upgraded to win 6.5. I allways miss the punchline is this a known problem and is there a fix or is there i setting i have missed.

It's a bug in WM6.5 unfortunately. You have to go in to Windows messages to see the entire message (as opposed to HTC's sense UI)..it's annoying and i hope HTC come out with a rom update very soon as this is just one of many many bugs and annoying quirks in 6.5. Argh!

People_Pages.xml
I commented out some stuff, please check the file for comments. Some registry settings I don't change myself, you can enable them by removing the brackets (#) in front of the corresponding lines.
Use at own risk of course (Mortscript is needed for this...)
*EDIT*
ORIGINAL POST:
Well, because I hated the 2.5 messaging and didn't like the fix of disabling it and going back to windows classic messaging (not being able to tap the sms in the message tab and all) I decided to just give the following a try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5202063#post5202063
For information, using the Topix 0.2 rom at the moment!
What I did was the following:
0. Download the archive file
http://manilavga.googlecode.com/svn...nse_amarullzNoMessagingClient_2.0.0-BETA2.zip
1. Disable sense (Disable it in the today settings)
2. Make a backup of all the files you are going to replace, just in case These are the files in the archive above.
3. Rename/delete the ManilaFull.xml in the windows dir (mentioned in that thread as well).
4. Copy the manilla and xml files from the .zip to the windows folder (in the zip there are a few manila files in subfolders, these are language files it seems and I just put them all in the windows dir, so not in the subfolder).
The PeoplesPages.xml I also copied to the ManillaXML folder in the windows folder.
4b. Extra step! Copy the file found in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5203019&postcount=1308
Into the windows folder as well, overwriting the other manila file. This fixes a double-tap not opening the message bug...
5. Enable sense again
6. Restart
7. Add rotation to it using BSB Tweaks
(8). I had the HTC messaging disabler cab installed and uninstalled it afterwards...
I think this was all...
Apart from some expected (it was made for VGA afterall) graphical issues (mainly in landscape mode) it actually seems to work fine!
The messages are divided over different pages now, no lag when loading, etc...
Just tried it now so I might find more issues soon but thought I'd mention it at least in case brave souls want to give it a try
Again, try at own risk!!! Haven't been able to test it extensively!
Any chance of some screenshots? The graphical VGA issues are holding me back from trying it...
Sure
Uploaded a portrait and landscape pic, just when the keyboard is displayed there is some overlap on the top. Nothing really bad though... Hope this helps, I'll see if there's something else I can make a screenshot of. But now, first dinner
Seems to work OK for me too Using Balaji 1.1 rom on Blackstone (HD), WM 6.5.x and Leo 2.01 based. Haven't tried landscape (I don't use it) but portrait seems to work fine. Only slight irritation is keyboard doesn't pop up on reply until you tap the text entry area. Much quicker than the laggy 2.5 messaging client
BTW I used the files from 0409 folder only, which I believe is English language. Well I'm English, and it worked anyway...

Don't know if the keyboard thing was different with the original software? But still, atleast a fast messaging app
Just tried this on my TP2.
Works GREAT thanks!!!
is there an eaiser way to do it? lol
It works for me! Thanks dagrim1.
Not perfectly, though. Clicking on the send message link in the contact card will restart Sense, and the same will happen if I choose the messaging tab inside the contact card.
Using the 1.61 Turkish ROM (will switch to EnergyROM soon).
It should be possible to do it through a cab file. Anyone up for it?
working for me on the topaz.
The overlap bug is more acceptable than the lagging message, thank you
Hmmm, some possible bugs?
1. Capitalize letter when starting a new sentence doesn't work? Maybe it's the rom though, heh...
2. When sending a message I don't see the contact but just the phone nr as the recipient. Clicking the msg DOES open the contacts tab (and goes to msg tab) but then the msg isn't listed there...
Still trying to find out an easier way to do all this as well.
One more bug: clicking on "menu" doesn't show anything.

I've got an app that includes a send/receive using MessagingApplication.Synchronize(). It works fine, but shows the inbox and this has to be closed manually. Ideally I'd rather just not have anything visible.
Does anyone know any way to do this?
Thanks in advance
You could use Mortscript. I have Blackberry Connect on my TD2. Every time I soft reset, I get a new email in the System folder. I don't want to bother to delete this manually, so I use Mortscript to delete it. To do this, I run send/receive (from Mortscript) and then exit the email again using Mortscript. Here is the words you will need to add to your mortscript. If you are not familiar with this program, please google mortscript.
Run("Program Files\SendRecieveAll.exe")
Sleep ( 3000 )
MouseClick 455,27
I have put it in a mortscript file for ease. If you download mortscript and then use file explorer to click on the attached file, it should work. I have tested it.
Edit - this is assuming you have put the SendReceiveAll.exe in your Program folder on your device, if not then do that. By the way, unzip the attachment. By the way, where in England is "Twatt"? I think I'd like that place, but is it wet there??

Oh how ironic! Lol
Thanks a lot for the suggestion mate. I was actually looking for a way of doing a send/receive for all email accounts. I'd got that far, but it insisted on showing the inbox while it was doing it, and I wanted it to be invisible, hence this thread.
From your post though, I noticed that you were pointing at an application that does exactly that!

Thanks mate - you've pointed me in the right direction and stopped me inventing the wheel.... AGAIN!
Oh yeah.... here's Twatt. It's usually wet, but the weather's really terrible for a week every month

Oh, how funny (where you live)!
The SendReceiveAll program is very good. It's not invisible though and it does not exit the email after running hence the mortscript.... Just close your eyes after running it and you will never know it ran at all, except you will have new emails.....
