Hi everybody,
after googling through a lot of forums for some weeks now, I learnd a lot about VPN with WM6, setting up a VPN Server and all of this stuff.
But nowhere was a solution for my special problem...
I have an XP-Prof Server in my network, wich is set up as a VPN Server . It is behind my AVM Fritzbox 7270 where all the port-forwardings vor PPTP (GRE and port 1723) are done.
When I connect from the "outer world" using an XP or Vista machine, everything works fine.
But: When I connect from my Handheld (Samsung B7610 Omnia Pro), the connection is dropped after round about a minute.
Within this minute, I can start a Remote-Desktop-Session etc and everything seems to be alright until the connection gets lost.
There is no other connection been started (except my normal internet connection through "web.vodafone.de") , and Active Sync is set to "manual", so it can't disturb my VPN session.
Is there anyone with an idea what I can do to get my VPN working???
Thanks in advance,
Joschi
is your main goal to do VPN
or to do Remote-Desktop ?
if the later I would suggest vnc rather then ms's options vnc is free and generally works better imho
Hi Rudegar,
and thanks for your reply.
First of all, I want to get access to my Files, located on my server.
Remote-Desktop would be nice but is not a must have...
But thanks for the tip. I'll try VNC. However, I fear that the lost connection
hasn't anything to do with RDP. Even when i just connect without using any tool the connection gets lost within one minute.
Do you have any idea?
In some other threads I read about stopping ActiveSync and adding IP-Exceptions. But none of all solved my problem.

Hi,
I've got my O2 XDA Exec set up just how I want it with regard to connection to the internet, and my LAN via Wifi and GPRS - that's all great. It simply uses the connection that's available at the time, and accesses stuff just fine. I haven't had to mess about with "My ISP", or "Work" connections etc - I just have an "Internet" connection, and it seems to do the job, just like I would on a regular laptop.
However, on a regular laptop, I can set up a VPN connection that I dial at will that will connect me to either my home network when I'm out and about, or to a Windows 2003 Server I have co-located. The only problem is, I can't seem to get my Exec to be able to do the same. I can set up the VPN details under "Connections", no problem, and I can even tell it to connect, but looking at the syslog on the router I can tell that no traffic ever comes close.
I've tried a couple of 3rd Party VPN clients (Bluefire really screws up your machine if you try and install to SD Card!), but these seem to be geared up to more complex VPN setups, and don't seem to handle my setup which, I think I'm right in saying, uses PPTP - they all seem to want to use IPSec, but at least I did see them trying to access the VPN on the router.
Can anybody offer any solution?
Cheers,
Steve.
Hi Steve,
I'm currently trialing Bluefire and using it successfully to log into my work network. As you say it is for more complex VPN configuration but I must admit I know little about this. Having used Movian before in WM 2003, it is usual that loading the software to an SD card is not supported, it must be installed to the device memory. I have also trialed AnthaVPN but this screws up my Wireless/GPRS connections.
John.
Yes, I tried Antha too, and screwed stuff up, so I've had to restore from a backup.
The annoying thing is, the built in VPN client should work, I think, I just can't get it to work.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Steve
Love the forums everyone, first time poster here. I have the T-mobile MDA which I have flashed the 2.26ROM along with many applications (thanks to these forums!).
My last wish for my PDA Phone is to be able to Activesync over the Internet back to my workstation at home (I was able to do this with a previous Sony Clie PalmOS, thought it would be easy with WM5). I was optimistic in hoping I could do this over T-mobile's data network, but VPN'n does not seems to work well over that data connection.
So (after establishing a vpn server at home with my Server2k machine) I attempted to connect to my homeVPN over a Wifi, which worked! I thought I was half way to getting to remote Activesync, but that is about as far as I could get.
I used this site:
http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/WM2003/WM2003PPTPVPN.html
To help me connect my Wizard to my home VPN (obviously not the XP settings but the equivalent to Server2k ones). The trick was to use the two different network settings, T-mobile data for Internet requests and My Work Network (Wifi) for private connections.
From there I used the Activesync 4 specs from this site:
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x-firewall.htm
To adjust my internal network settings to try and either port forward activesync to my workstation, or somehow channel those ports into the VPN tunnel going to the Wizard. No luck...
Has anyone been able to connect WM5 to home thru a VPN and do a Activesync remotely? I really could use some help/ideas with this.
Thanks a ton!

On a quick side note...everytime I reset my unit it re-creates the "My Email.lnk" in Start Menu/Programs. I like to keep my Start Menu more organized so I have the link in another folder but every reset it keeps appearing! How do I turn this off? Or how can I automatically delete that file when the OS starts up each time? Again, thanks!
First time newbie glad to have found you all. I don't know if I screwed up during the original setup of my XV6800. I have successful VPN connection to my work server when remote with wifi at home or anywhere when I ActiveSync my Outlook stuff, but problem is that when I just wish to browse the internet my 6800 makes VPN connection for that also. Kinda funny and a stupid waste to VPN through the internet to my work server to browse the internet. This is my third PDA. I never had this same problem with my HP iPAQs. Anybody know what I may have to do to fix this or is this the 6800's modus operendi? Thanks. My other probs on separate threads.
Hey folks! I need some help setting up VPN. Here's what I want to do: I want to be able to connect to my PC through Internet (HSDPA Connection. NOT Wireless LAN!!!!!) and access the network shares on my PC. Okay, now I believe the only way not involving a HTTP Server on my PC would be to set up a VPN network. What I have done so far is configuring Vista. I set up the VPN Server. I think almost nothing can go wrong, because the only setting that I'm prompted for is Username/PW to allow... ANyway so I did this, and a friend of mine managed to connect. So I think the Vista-Part is okay. Now when I try to do it with my mobile, I FAIL. I did setup the VPN Connection in the Connections menu, and then I find the connection in the list and I tap-and-hold it and choose connect, and then it SEEMS the phone is trying to connect, at least it establishes the HSDPA Connection if it's not ready. But nothing more happens. No errors, no warnings, no indicators, nothing. Resco Explorer can't see my PC and my PC doesn't show an active VPN Connection either. I've already tried to alter the settings of the VPN Connection on my mobile and I think I've had them in almost every possible constellation but it simply won't work. Can someone help me and explain how to do it please? Your efforts would be very much appreciated!
Nobody? I really need this
Hey all, I think Rim may be the only one with experience using Windows 7...so I ask...how in the world do you get WM6.5 to connect via USB to 7 and make internet sharing work? I've enabled data connections thru WMDC, and all seems well on the WinMo side..so I dunno what the deal is. Windows just tells me that its continually looking for an IP address for my connection, whole my Wing tells me that it's connected. Any help?
Hi Ashasaur,
Did you ever get anywhere with this?
I've been using my Touch Diamond (WM6.1) with Vista and surfing the web without problems... however having now upgraded to Windows 7 I'm stumbling at the same hurdle as you...
Having plugged the device in and run Internet Sharing on it I can connect okay to my ISP. At the same time, Windows 7 detects the appearance of a 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' and I get a LAN connection under Network Connections. However, I can see that it is requesting an IP address using DHCP but getting nowhere...
Anyone with any tips?
Mathew
It works fine for me. I just plugged it in, ran Internet Sharing, and it worked. I didn't have to change any settings or anything.
Thanks for the reply ksj, I did eventually get it working.
In case anyone else has similar troubles, my solution (which I've posted here), is a simple workaround involving statically assigning an IP address as for some reason automatic assignment with DHCP was failing.
