is there a better mp3 player? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

The magic one is fine but the roller ball messes up my tunes and often puts it shuffel when its in my pocket. Is there a better one. I like the hero one. Cheers

Do you still own a Mp3 player

Those of you who have a Nexus, it does EVERYTHING right? Play movies, videos ..ect. Well my question is I was going to buy an HD2 today on my work line, but didn't justify spending that much on something I'm afraid I won't use often since I'm pretty sure I'll go right back to my Nexus.
Since my Ipod broke a year ago, I am debating now if I should get an Ipod Touch. But don't know how often I would use it since my Nexus does everything. So my question is do you guys still use your Ipod Touches, Zune Hds'..ect?
I want to make sure I get my money's worth. I was also debating wether or not to get the Archos 5 since it has Android on it, or wait for another tablet. I'm not sure ... all I know is I need second piece of hardware for my Nexus.
Yep I am using a Samsung P3 8GB.
I can pair it with N1 over BT so when I receive a call the music is muted and I can take the call directly thanks to the P3's mic
Yes the Samsung P3 has a superior quality sound
I still use my ipod classic on a daily basis. I like to have my entire music collection at my disposal whenever I want and a 16gb microsd doesn't even come close for that.
Imo i would say buy one, because i know i have my ipod touch playing music when i throw a party and that would be difficult if my phone was my ipod
i use my n1 for music at the gym
Gave my old sansa view to my pops after I got the phone.
I keep a about 4 gigs of music on the nexus, and use pandora mostly.
I've got a gb 32 zunehd. Primarily bought it to hook up to my car stereo, but also use it at work.
..until N1 has no FM....I still use my Sansa8GB for mp3&FM Radio.
It's a pain in the ass to unlock the phone every time I want to change tracks or pause, so yeah, I still use my iPod. My iPod also has superior sound quality.

Using CM with FLAC support my N1 sounds better than my ipod ever did. As far as the unlocking goes? When paired up with my Moto S9HD bluetooth headphones i can skip tracks on the headset whenever i'm running.
I still have an ipod, it's basically fused into my car stereo but if i get a new car with an AUX in i can't imagine i'll ever see the ipod again.

I use btunes on my nexus. It adds controls to the lock screen.
I use my Nokia BH-503 BT headphones with Btunes and Tune Wiki. I get almost 12 hours of play back time before they need recharging. I also stream my 50+ gb music collection through Subsonic so I don't need to carry around a lot of songs on my phone.
yep 16GB Zune HD, everybody thinks im from the future with my high tech gadgets. Couple weeks ago my cousin asked me if I'm sure I'm human when he saw my phone and zune.

Haha I pulled out my nexus one at a party:
"what is that?"
"what?"
"that"
"A nexus one"
"A nexus what?"
me - "googles phone?"
everyone else - "google has a phone?!"
I really am disappointed with what google has going for it's music/video player though. Btunes is okay and nemoplayer is as well. I'd love a great music app.
I have a Cowon S9 32GB. Nothing beats that. Period.
I bought it a while before I got the Nexus One. The N1 can't replace it though, and I doubt any phones will for a while. The sound quality in the S9 is godlike. The GUI sucks ass, but I don't care as long as the sound is good.
I never use an mp3 player per say just walking around, but when I'm running I use the built in music player with ***Cardio Trainer*** one of the best excercising apps in my opinion. it self integrates the music player..
Anyways in the car I also use Pandora with bluetooth or I could plug it in via aux input as well and let the auto EQ take action to where it always sounds amazing!
Usefull info here.

what are you using to hold your Nexus One while you jog?
In my pocket
Never had a separate MP3 Player. First phone I used a lot of music on was a Motorola KRZR K1m, which unlike the GSM version (which used a java app), had a pretty nice built-in MP3 player.

Music player and sound quality. OH GAWD.

Being used to cellphone audio quality (nokia 5800, SE W850) i know they are usually decent, but not more than that. So it didn't occure to me that i should try the player on the SGS i9000.
Today i finally did, to test the supplied earphones.
Hearing that the phone with the mediocre supplied earphones sounds good, i switched to my AKG K317.
HOLY *stuff that shouldn't be written here* THE SOUND QUALITY IS MINDBLOWING.
I don't know what the hell Samsung did here, but it appears that someone did something VERY right here.
Now i have no use for my Creative Zen, which is kind of sad.
If any of you still didn't try it- well, it's about time to.
Agreed, it's amazing.
I'm not sure this suprises me tbh, Samsung know what they are doing in this field, more than a lot of other companies.
Not a big fan of the headset tho. I find it hurts after a while and in the stock music player there is no way to skip the current track. No skip, no fast forward, reverse etc. MixZing can skip tracks, but it's a bit iffy and that's all it can do.
I have yet to find a music player that is as good as the one on my old iPhone. On that phone I could skip, reverse, fast forward, pause, play etc with the headset. And I often used voice control to change playlists and shuffle the songs when I'm out bicycling. Can't do this on this phone right now and that is a problem.
Sound quality on this one isn't bad though.
Got any advice for me?

Apparently (there's another thread that talks about that) the Nokia remotes work since it's the same jack layout. I'll have to try that out since controlling the player from the remote is essential.
Totally agree with the OP. Music is awesome on this phone. Beats the HTC HD2 and the iPod. Together with the Sure SE500 and Dolby surround enabled on the Galaxy it is simply amazing.
i agree, but the stock ear phones are funny :/
there's too much treble in it, and bass is low on high.
apart from that its an awesome phone.
When GSMarena reviewed the Galaxy S, they described it as "perfect audio quality":
wwwgsmarena.com/samsung_i9000_galaxy_s-review-478p6.php
Finally a phone that equals or surpasses the iPhones in sound quality.
Better than iphone's music player? LOL. I'll have whatever pot you guys are smoking.
The sound in SGS is shallow, skips beats occasionally, and pauses occasionally, may be due to lags. It is also very lacking in functions and features.
iPhone's music player is miles ahead, if you really have been using both.
1. iPhone music player lets me combine music video and audio into a single playlist. SGS can't.
2. iPhone music player lets me continue to play the sound on video with the option of screen completely shut off, therefore good for listening to music videos without having to look at the picture. SGS can't.
3. iPhone music player lets me pause/play/skip/repeat songs entirely with the volume button, with the music running in both foreground and background and both screen on or off. SGS has an application in the market place to contra music totally with the volume button but the screen must be on, and music player must be the foreground task, so you can control it which surfing the net, for example.
4. iPhone music player has the option of displaying lyric while the music play. I'm not aware of such possibility. I'm talking about stock music player here.
5. iPhone standard headset also let me completely control the music playing (play/pause/skip/previous) with the control on the wire itself. What can the button in SGS's wired headset control? Limited, isn't it?
6. iPhone slider let's you slide either very fast or extremely slow depending on how far away you move your finger from the slider.
7. iPhone music player never ever pause, skip music. SGS does, which is one of the first things I noted and complained about.
8. iPhone music player does not require long media scan each time we reboot the phone. I don't even dare to put in all my 22 GB of musics on my SGS.
There are things i like more in SGS than iPhone, but music player and sound quality aren't among them.

From my experience, it all comes down to the right combination between the music player and the characteristics of the headset. For me the combination between the SGS and the Shure in ear phones is by far the best of all combinations I tried.
what model are you using appelflap?
I am pondering to get myself a sony/sennheiser soon..

You're right there, appleflap, more expensive headset does make hugh difference, but this works for both if one is willing to spend that much more for expensive headset. Won't help with the skips, pause, long media scanning time when you want the entire collection of music in, and the limited fuctionalities that I mentioned though.
Personally, I much prefer connecting my SGS or iPhone to good external speakers. Wow, the sound depth and richness completely change with that set up. That's what I always do before bed. I miss the ability to just rest my finger on the volume button to completely control the music in iPhone, without ever have to turn on the screen. I don't like sticking anything into my ear while trying to get to sleep, although I have that option.
Correct me if im wrong, but Apple uses a dedicated audio chip for music playing while samsung is just using the A8 CPU for it. This accounts for the crap battery life when playing audio on the Galaxy (barely 10 hours) vs 40 on the iPhone 4 and the better sound quality on the iPhone.
I basically went back to the iPhone because of this. For a phone that's touted as a multimedia powerhouse, not having a dedicated audio chip seems absurd to me. I work for 10 hours a day and I like to listen to music the whole time, with the Galaxy I'd go back home with 30% battery and only if I hadn't used the phone for anything else. With the iPhone I can play music all day and be back home with more than 75% battery.

You can always buy a spare battery. Or better yet, buy 10 ( ebay sells them for 5$ the piece) and you can listen for 10 days to music.
iPhone can't do that that's why I even didn't consider the iPhone (kidding)

Those battery are useless. I've tried them. It's cheaper to buy the genuine one although they cost 20 times more. It turns out cheaper.

Yeah, I read that. I personally haven't any problems with it. I have had never any skip or pause. And as for the media scanning: I was pretty amazed about the speed actually. In contrast to my HD2 it is blazing fast. Scanning 14 Gb of audio files in just a few seconds is pretty amazing.
Maybe there are some problems with your SD card?

Sound quality on Android Vs. WinMo

Did any one else have the same experience?
The SQ of music on Android seems to be a LOT better than on WinMO?
BTW I am using the nuForce NE-6 IEMs found here:
http://www.amazon.com/NuForce-NE-7M-Earphones-iPhone-Compatible/dp/B001BL8BO4
did u install SRS WOW HD sound driver for windows Mobiles??
Good observation
Yeah it really is a big difference in quality...I'm glad someone else noticed it. i really like to listen to music on the headphones now! Oh and Srs Wow only alters frequencies...the quality and clearness is still average.
Yup I did and even then the sound on android looks like it has more stereo separation and more dynamics and sounds deeper whereas the same on winmo sounded too flat even with SRS WOW...
Just the opposite for me, but I use pocket player rather than relying on core player or winmo player. PP offers features to numerous for the average Joe (that's me) to fully use, but the equalizer and fader/balance control are excellent.
Maybe Android market offers some nice players, but with so many limitations in the current HD2 Android offerings, I'm sticking with WinMo and keeping an eye out for the lil' robot just for giggles.
Really better on android form me!!!
really nice work dev!

I thought I was imagining things, but apparently I wasn't
I don't get why playing audio in windows mobile is so hard, it sounds worse than it should be and there is always a half of a second pause between songs.
I use S2P on winmo and I must admit the electrical noise from the device is not good - it is best when device is idle and screen off, but tbh it's pretty crap on both winmo AND android....I am using Westone UM2s and ATH-CK100s with ACS custom sleeves and I hear a LOT of electrical noise in both Oses.
I even near noise with the stock earbuds - dud phone? or do you think I'm sensitive?
It is important to note that the audio deficiencies are clearest with classical music, opera, vocals, jazz etc. Not so much with pop+rock etc.
Actually I was listening to Indian music with a lot of vocals. As the above poster said the difference is more apperant musical with a lot of vocals.

Desire iTunes Sync

Engadget reported yesterday that the HTC Desire would be receiving an update to 2.2 this weekend. In this update there would be some kind of an iTunes sync ability. I've been looking around for more information on this and I can't find anything. Does anyone have any more information on this? Is there a possibility this could be ported over to the EVO? I've never been satisfied with Android's music transfer capabilities and it would be great to have some additional functionality.... until Google's music service arrives.
Here is the original Engadget link:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/30/official-htc-rolling-out-android-2-2-and-720p-video-capture-to/
Not sure about that but there is an app in the market call iSyncr. It's 4 or 5 bucks but syncs your iTunes to your EVO like it was an iPod.
On a side note, I hate iTunes
Have you tried this? I need something like this for my sister that can play her iTunes (she's 37 and well, you know). I'm curious if it will play the stuff directly from iTunes or just the standard mp3's with no DRM
Thanks for the replies!
On second thought maybe I'll just stick with subsonic. iSyncr looks pretty cool but I hate syncing playlists. What I'd like to do is have my phone pop up in an iTunes like music player, doesn't have to be iTunes, and then drag and drop music into it. DoubleTwist got close to this but the drag and drop is clunky. In fact the whole player is pretty bad. I like were they are going but they just need to refine it a bit more. Developers are probably fearful of investing time in this kind of thing because Google has something on the way.
Take a look at doubleTwist and see if it meets your needs. I love it!

You don't have to sync playlists. It will sync with your library. No drag and drop though.

Why is it that my iPod sounds better?

I have an iPod touch and I don't know why but my music just sounds much better on my iPod, I have the same songs on both my phone and the iPod could it be that I use the stock music app?

The iPod touch is a built for music playing. That is it's main purpose in life.
You could try something like Real Player or WinAmp and adjust the frequencies to see if that helps.

Agreed. Apple spent money on a nicer amplifier inside of the ipod because that is it's sole purpose. HTC did not see a point in building a nicer amp into the mytouch because a lot of people will not even use that functionality.
I found both my G2 and MT4G sounded quite tinny out of the box. Tweaking on the equalizer in either the Cubed music player or DSP Manager in CM made it sound much more natural to me.
