I have a HTC Magic 32B I installed Modaco_custom_1_51_java_flash-sapphire.zip
and although I think its fantastic it wasn't running very well the phone.
Did I miss something? Did I not do something right to get it running at full speed?
I have a linux and ex4 partition on my SD card (class 4).
If you have any suggestions it would be grate because i'd love to go back to it!
cheers

Considering the Hero has 96mb more RAM, it's not going to run as fast as the Hero itself. 64mb swap partition on a class 6 card would probably help (remember, swap is nowhere near comparable to RAM), but I use Cyanogen Mod because Hero just isn't worth it imo.
yeah I though so. The rom did say it was stripped down though.

So mine says 279mb will the Hero Rom be able to be put on this phone and experience no lag or do I need to get the unbranded Sapphire? After using my G1 with the Hero Rom I would like to use that rom but I know the mytouch hasnt been rooted yet
Your looking at the amount of ROM your phone has not the RAM. Your phone has 192MB of RAM which I believe is the same as your 1G, you just have more storage for apps.

some how i knew someone would say that dang, i hope someone makes the hero rom fast for my mytouch

well devellopers are working on optimizing the hero roms as much as possible in order to be able to run it smothly on the 192MB Ram Magics.
So once the Mytouch is rooted its just a matter of time till the already optimized roms are ported for the mytouch! and some already made roms should work fine on the phone itself without the need of ports having to be made...
In this case you must look at 32B roms
This question has been in my mind for a while. Is it worth it to flash a Hero rom ? I am currently running cyanogen 4.0.1, wireless tethering is working, Overclock is working as well as Term. It is also wicked fast.
My SPL is .00006 so from my understanding a "Perfect" SPL, although I have root. Maybe am reading the post dates wrong but I thought this would not work. The method I used was 1 click root.
I understand there are some issues with Hero on a MT3G but if i have root and a partitioned (FAT32/EXT3/SWAP) Class 6 SD, would you use a Hero? My personal feeling is wait tell the Official release comes out for the 32A so there maybe a bit more to work with.
I would appreciate any insight to this. Thank you for all your hard work this community is awesome.
My opinion is Hero roms are still too slow for the MyTouch. I have one of Cyanogen's roms and love it. Many thanks to Cyanogen and those that assisted. I have flashed about four or five Hero roms and they are realy nice to look at, and I can apreciate all the work it took for someone to get them to even run on the device, but still too slow for me. Just my two cents.
My thoughts
Ya that was my gut feeling, I am going to stick with this as "if ain't broke don't fix it" I may however flash my G1, just to see how it looks
I agree with donepate, most hero roms are pretty sluggish and a lot of roms have trouble with the MT3G. Upon wake up the graphics turn to poo and get pixelated and blurry. But this is only on some MT3g's, and on most roms. The only hero rom that has worked for me is Fatal1ty's hero rom, but It was too slow for me, I was spoiled by Cyanogen's roms speed. If I were you, I would stick with CyanogenMod 4.0.1 and just download a Hero theme. I highly recommend Ted's hero theme. Looks just like the Hero but without its functionality and there's no Sense UI.
Try one
I would suggest trying it and deciding for yourself.
Some people have the absolute opposite experience then what is being mentioned in this thread.
I for instance, am running the TF3D V3 ROM by Drizzy (Not even the newest ROM out there by any means) with a 32MB Swap (as auto partitioned with the RAv1.2.1 Recovery) all on a Class 4 SD. And find the speed no slower by any means.
The only change I have made is to reverse Apps2SD (IMO Apps2SD is not necessary on MT3G)
I am completely satisfied, have no graphical glitches, I do get the TouchUI Loading once when I boot, and maybe once every 2 days if I don't reboot.
The improvements that the Hero ROMS bring to the user experience of the device out ways the quite small
So I say, make a nandroid backup and "Try it out" it just might be "worth it"
I just installed Hero
I used Qteknology HTC HERO PORT from [1.79.482.3] 32b and you are right, the usability is worth the sometimes lag. I have used the overclock app and disabled the old school clock widget and performance is decent. I may try some others but so far so good
Edit: Why this is not released on T-Mobile is beyond me, if they want a truly customizable UI, Hero is that. I upgraded from my G1 which is still working great to a MT3G and to be honest it felt like a windows service pack. I had to bite my pride and tell my wife I love so she could have my G1 and I could not get shot.
My other feeling is that when Hero is released for the non-Google branded phones, these awesome dev's will have much more to work with and speed just may increase. I do not know as all i can dev is a few nasty ass skins
Beautiful!
I just loaded the ROM you suggested and it is night and day. Everting works and more importantly, its fast Thank you for the heads up. I think we have a keeper.
I'm running Hero on my G1 and I love it but I'm waiting till Oct when HTC releases some legit new hero for Magics before I toss it on my MyTouch.
Yeah I tried Haykuro/Dizzy Hero and it gave me BSOD (Blur Screen of Death) but evil hero 1.9 has been running smooth for me with 96mb swap.
I used to hate putting hero roms in my G1 cause of the lag but since then there has been a mass improvement in speed... granted its no Cyanogen but definitely worth taking a look at as it can be used in a daily basis now

No and yes , I am disappointed with the Hero Roms, but impressed with the developement of them. They are not up to par yet, but soon. The one touch root is very impressive, no more of the old skool style.
I am looking for the orginal mytouch ROM and SPL to put back on, can anyone direct where i can find them?

No as I was disappointed with Hero Roms that claim to be stable and fast... I see it requires the spl that I already have...But its for a 32a? i have the 32b.
The problem is I want to be able to use my jawbone for BT, I bought and now want to use it...

Well I gave Up...
After many Hero ROM's I just reverted my Touch back to factory and returned and bought a hero. Not as fun I know, but a lot easier I also bought a touch pro 2 and we will see which one I like better. Thanks for the help but on to another sub-forum.

I was pretty at the state that you were a couple of hours ago but I have say that this Evil Hero is actually decent even with my class 2 memory card. I am happy at the moment, I like it
I see allot of people are using a 96MB Swap. Im a noob to this stuff and am a little confused as to what exactly that is, i have tried to find some threads on it but i suck at searching lol
What exactly is it and is this 96MB swap something that will help out the performance on my phone? Its a G1 running the latest Cyanogen's with a 4gig class 4 SD card.
start here, I was just reading about it earlier today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529361
I highly suggest you get a class 6 if your going to use your sd for this purpose.

No, but you could use 32mb as mine never uses much more than that. Most people would go as far to say that it is not needed at all for AOSP roms.
I have been looking around for 2.1 ROM for a while and though few ROMs are great but as in life none of the ROMs are perfect
My simple wishlist is:
-app2sd
-no RAM Hack
But believe it or not I am yet to stumble upon one. In fact I used OpenEclair for a while and I loved it but RAM hack meant no games and no video so had to revert back to Cyanogen's.
If this is a n00bish question then kindly excuse 'coz ATM that's what I am .
Thanks in advance.

Try kings droid Eris2g1 with vegamans update that includes 3d drivers and games run preatty smooth even with 10mb hack.

I was hoping you'd say no
I want to avoid using swap as I'm not sure of how much damage it will make to my sd-card.

well so far iv had mine for a month with a lot of flashing and repartitioning and i havent had a problem yet
you can always grab a new one for around 20$ http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-mic...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268266465&sr=8-1
sacrificing 20$ for a great rom is more than reasonable in my opinion.

why do you need a2sd with a magic? if your worried about thrashing your sd with swap why aren't you bothered about running apps from the sd?
try an openeclair rom
just use a 64mb swap and thats it..no apps2sd
or if u want try open eclair with no swap or apps2sd
Thanks guys for your inputs. "kings droid Eris2g1" looks compelling. Gonna try this weekend .
That when a stable android build is out for the HD2, it will be able ot run on the internal memory with NO windows mobile at all, and not kill the battery? i just wnat to make sure that i will not have to run the build of my sd card for ever.
i just would like all your opinions, cause i don't know weather to be patient and keep my hd2 or get something else...Just wondering what all your thoughts are..and when would you think a stable working full port would be?
thanks gang. Love this forum
Thanks DEVS! Great work on this!
no one??????
To be honest I think you'd be better off just getting an android phone if your looking to completely replace the os.......
You could be waiting a while otherwise.......

Really? that is what i feared...
what (IYHO) would be a "while"?
I wouldnt like to even guess at how long because my knowledge of the whole android thing is very small, its not really something that interests me to be honest......
From what Ive been reading the newer builds are coming on in leaps and bounds but at the end of the day the HD2 is built to be a WM device, android will never run as efficiently and as stable as it would on an android handset....
Of course its going be fun to play around with but I dont think it will ever be able to replace the original os........
It sounds like you'd probably be better off with a desire / evo.........

Well they have been going since March, it's now July and we are on alpha release. A month, two, three...? Who knows.
i wonder how "usable" it will be, and will there ever be a rom that works on the internal memory and not the memory card?

I should think it would be stable and you may well be able to flash it to the internal ROM, or at least have a dual boot option. Personally I have no interest in running Android on my HD2, despite tinkering with it already.
I have my eye on the 'Desire HD'.

I have never tried Android, but I do like WM 6.5.x a lot, but it's well on the way out now. I'll be gunning for an Android phone next I think, and the 'Desire HD' looks like it will fit the bill nicely.
When I was considering the HD2 or the Android, the main reason I chose the HD2 was because of WM6.5. Despite all the bad impression, WM is still fairly stable for me. Furthermore, you can only install apps onto Device Memory using Android. How many programs do you think you can get onto the Device Memory?
I have an 8gb card (standard issue) and I have no qualms installing a program and playing with it for a while, and don't need to worry about memory becoming too low...
