I'm soooo new to Android.
Just wanna know how to update the Latest ROM. I have ROM file already but i don't know hot to start.
I backed up all data to MyBackup App, just to make sure i won't lose any data.
After installing ROM, do i have to Root it?
Tanks so much.

Hi, I need some clarifications as the topic says..
I want to install:
this
and
SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 (btw, can someone give me a link to the download?)
I've installed SPB 3.5 before and therefore I know that it doesn't delete any old things like the standard HTC Topaz ROM. So SPB wasn't really a question, but I wonder how this HSPL works. I've read the guide but I don't get it, how does it work. Can someone explain more specific. I want to try out some ROM without deleting my custom ROM from HTC (WM 6.5 Pro).
Then, will the sms-layout work together with SPB 3.5?
And as it says in the install-description, you have to disable and enable stuff. And that will change my system.. so it doesn't feel right to install it before I have a backup on my phone - if something goes wrong.
So shortly, how do I backup my whole system (ROM, files, settings)? And how do I reinstall my backup? (don't forget to also explain how the HSPL works)
Thx for reply!

Hi,
You should use search. It really helps
" i want install ...this". So, what stopping you. Download, install, if dont like uninstall.
SPB MS3.5. SPB.com site or google.
HardSPL is changes the Bootloader so you can install a different ROM regardless if it's signed.
And you can not have 2 ROMs at the same time.
If you want try custom ROMs you will have to install Hard SPL. Without it you can upgrade only with HTC ROMs.
About dumping and rebuilding. Use wiki page about Topaz. Everything you need is there.
Good luck with flashing,

sry, but I can't find anything useful :S can't you give me some links, to backup stock rom and reinstall it?
when I watched the videoguides of XperiaX1 it was so simple... you could find your stock ROM in a sticky in your phones part of the forum. And also not just the stock rom for uk, but also a swedish stock rom. And when you downloaded that. You simply copied the file to your microSD root direction and went to the bootloader and poff you got the original ROM. So, plz get me some direct links to this

Info on all available stock ROMs is only a search away and then the flash procedure is as you mention. So you have all the details you need to experiment to your hearts content.
I bought my LEO from Orange with a contract.I searched the forums but couldn't find a noob friendly "tutorial" on how to backup my factory rom before upgrading to o custom rom, so that I wouldn't void my warranty .
Some someone help would be appreciated.

As far as im aware you can only back up the apps/settings not the rom itself, if you wanted to go back to the Stock rom you would need to download it and flash it again.

I don't know if htc's stoc rom is the same as the one provided by orange.
On my old I900 omnia it was possible to backup the entire rom Using GrandPrix.
I hope there is a similar solution for LEO.
You can download the original HTC Orange ROM from their website and set it aside should it ever become necessary to send the phone back for service.
http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=297&act=sd&cat=all
It's my understanding that after installing HSPL if you need to revert to the original bootloader, you just have to flash a factory ROM and you're there. However, I've never put that to a test just yet. One other thing, be careful on which radio version is in the ROM you're using from HTC because HSPL will only install if your radio version is (if memory serves) 1.42 or earlier.
No reason to back it up - the ROM image is the backup itself, of course without data or user-installed programs. If you're looking for a good backup program, I've been very happy with SPB Backup which has been very reliable and will restore your entire machine, inclusive of data and applications you've installed yourself.
HTH.
ETA: I'd probably download ALL the HTC factory ROMs and patches and keep them on my drive and/or external media just in case the company ever decides that nobody wants those 'old' images anymore and discontinues the hosting of them.
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to submit a post about changing my rom but it keeps saying I can't add outside links although the post does not have any links?
Any ideas?!

Hi Everyone,
OK first of all I am new to all of this but I have a Desire HD...
Basically the phone is very laggy and a friend has told me to look at installing a new rom as that is the way forward...
So here I am, I have had a good luck around the forum but there seems to be so many different guides...
I am probably going to look at installing:
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 4.0, 3.1 Gingerbread & HTC Sense 2.1 Android 2.3.2 - posted my mike1986...now my first question, is this stable and are there any problems with it?
My desire is:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d
[email protected] #1
Thu Oct 28 13:24:11 CST 2010
Build Number: 1.39.161.1 CL278886 release-keys
Software Number: 1.39.161.1
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
Now is there any major impact at changing the rom?!
Also is there anyway in which I can backup my text messages (most important) and also the installed apps and restore these once the process has been completed.
Thanks in advance!
Johnathon
Anyone please?!
There are a lot of guides in the Desire HD Android Development forum if you have a look in there.
Not all ROMS require wiping, in which case your data will be kept.
I have installed LeeDrOid and all texts, games savedata etc never were deleted.
When you install a rom, make a backup of everything with titanium backup (if you need to restore, probably best to restore data and not apps).
However, the first thing you do when you flash a new rom is make a nandroid backup with clockworkmod of your phone. This will enable you to restore the pre-flash state.
Check the sticky post by the mod of the forum in the dev section, this will give you everything you need.
Read carefully though, when you start flashing stuff, you may brick your phone if you do it incorrectly.
This should help you.
step 1. Download titanium backup. Back up all apps and data if you wish ( this way you will keep save games and other data )
step 2. Sync your contacts and emails to your gmail account so you can restore them easily once the new rom is flashed.
step 3. You are ready to flash your new rom.
step 4. Once new rom is installed, use your gmail account to sync your contacts etc and then use titanium backup to restore your apps.
Following this lets you wipe everything so you dont have junk left over from your old rom.
hope this helps
Use a stable release instead of a beta release.

Your going to install a beta ...
So no this might not be stable,
and yes there might be problems with it.
I'm not saying your going to have issue's (it's already a Beta4) but it might...
(currently it ain't HD 4.0 β 3.1 but HD 4.0 β 4 ... )
Beter to use a bit more stable release:
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 3.2 | High Quality & Performance | O/C | Sense/no-Sense : link
For your text message you can use a backup app:
sms-Backup-restore
For your already installed app's you can use or a backup app or an automated installer that keeps track of your installed apps.
I use : the site: http://www.appbrain.com the app: link to app
Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for the advice you have all given me!!
Last night I took the plunge and installed the android revolution...it is just so much better, a lot faster etc. Really pleased.
The only thing I have not done is flashed the radio to the recommended one - the signal seems to be fine etc however would you recommend that I take the plunge or flash this too?...do you flash the flash everytime you flash a new rom?!
In the next few weeks I will now be keen on trying new roms, some which change the actual look of the phone - feeling a little more daring now!
Will I be able to go down a version for example I am now running on 2.3.2, would it be possible to do a wipe and go down to 2.3.1 or even up to 2.3.3?!
I am guessing to do this I just copy over the rom to my sd card. do a nandroid backup, format the rom, install the new rom, reboot and I am good to go?!
Wow I think I am starting to understand all of this now!
Now a really complex question, is it possible to have two rom's installed so for example I could have a stable on that I can use all of the time but then also a beta version so that I could beta test as and when I wanted to but obviously revert back to the stable version if it was too buggy.
A lot in one post I know! Sorry!
Thanks
Johnathon
Read the Guides at Dev thread mate. It should be easy for you.
If you have a stable version you use Rom manager to take a backup before you install a new. If your done playing / testing you restore the backup...
If you use certain backup tools for your sms, apps... you dont have to backup your Rom every time. Just use those tools to restore sms, apps, ...
Enjoy testing your new rom's
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Thanks for that! Guess it was kind of an obvious answer really to just take a full backup of the ROM that I am happy with and then restore that if I want to roll back
Only one outstanding thing now is that am I ok to go up and down versions of the os as long as I do a full format first then an install from zip or restore?
Ignore the bit about ping chat and e-mail, they both seem to have been working without any issues today, very strange!
that's true, thx for sharing
Someone could help me. It will be my first time to update the ROM to a version NAND. I usually use the SD versions without problems. I downloaded this rom but I was not happy to upgrade. Anyone know any tutorial to install this rom?

for rooting on froyo.. i think you can use an app called z4root.. i think its on playstore not sure..if not try too google and find it.
upgrade to gingerbread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369296
after upgrade to gingerbread...rooting etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
I would recommend that after rooting and installing a custom recovery (ClockworkMod) you should make a full nandroid(complete OS + data) backup and keep it safe on your pc or sd card before you do anything else.
once you have are rooted have a custom recovery.. and a nandroid backup you are ready!..
remember.. when flashing ROMS.. check the baseband..which means.. if you are on gingerbread ROM.. official or otherwise.. you can flash any gingerbread ROM.. if you want to flash a ROM based on ICS.. you should get on ICS baseband.. for that you need to upgrade to official ICS.. then you can flash whatever ICS ROM you want..
as for flashing instructions... the ROM builder will have included that.. so read it.
Hope i helped!
