Installing New Rom... - Desire HD General

Hi Everyone,
I am trying to submit a post about changing my rom but it keeps saying I can't add outside links although the post does not have any links?
Any ideas?!
Post:
Hi Everyone,
OK first of all I am new to all of this but I have a Desire HD...
Basically the phone is very laggy and a friend has told me to look at installing a new rom as that is the way forward...
So here I am, I have had a good luck around the forum but there seems to be so many different guides...
I am probably going to look at installing:
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 4.0, 3.1 Gingerbread & HTC Sense 2.1 Android 2.3.2 - posted my mike1986...now my first question, is this stable and are there any problems with it?
My desire is:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d

Build Number: 1.39.161.1 CL278886 release-keys
Software Number: 1.39.161.1
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
Now is there any major impact at changing the rom?!
Also is there anyway in which I can backup my text messages (most important) and also the installed apps and restore these once the process has been completed.
Thanks in advance!
Johnathon

Anyone please?!

There are a lot of guides in the Desire HD Android Development forum if you have a look in there.

Not all ROMS require wiping, in which case your data will be kept.
I have installed LeeDrOid and all texts, games savedata etc never were deleted.
When you install a rom, make a backup of everything with titanium backup (if you need to restore, probably best to restore data and not apps).
However, the first thing you do when you flash a new rom is make a nandroid backup with clockworkmod of your phone. This will enable you to restore the pre-flash state.
Check the sticky post by the mod of the forum in the dev section, this will give you everything you need.
Read carefully though, when you start flashing stuff, you may brick your phone if you do it incorrectly.

This should help you.
step 1. Download titanium backup. Back up all apps and data if you wish ( this way you will keep save games and other data )
step 2. Sync your contacts and emails to your gmail account so you can restore them easily once the new rom is flashed.
step 3. You are ready to flash your new rom.
step 4. Once new rom is installed, use your gmail account to sync your contacts etc and then use titanium backup to restore your apps.
Following this lets you wipe everything so you dont have junk left over from your old rom.
hope this helps

Use a stable release instead of a beta release.

Your going to install a beta ...
So no this might not be stable,
and yes there might be problems with it.
I'm not saying your going to have issue's (it's already a Beta4) but it might...
(currently it ain't HD 4.0 β 3.1 but HD 4.0 β 4 ... )
Beter to use a bit more stable release:
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 3.2 | High Quality & Performance | O/C | Sense/no-Sense : link
For your text message you can use a backup app:
sms-Backup-restore
For your already installed app's you can use or a backup app or an automated installer that keeps track of your installed apps.
I use : the site: http://www.appbrain.com the app: link to app

Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for the advice you have all given me!!
Last night I took the plunge and installed the android revolution...it is just so much better, a lot faster etc. Really pleased.
The only thing I have not done is flashed the radio to the recommended one - the signal seems to be fine etc however would you recommend that I take the plunge or flash this too?...do you flash the flash everytime you flash a new rom?!
In the next few weeks I will now be keen on trying new roms, some which change the actual look of the phone - feeling a little more daring now!
Will I be able to go down a version for example I am now running on 2.3.2, would it be possible to do a wipe and go down to 2.3.1 or even up to 2.3.3?!
I am guessing to do this I just copy over the rom to my sd card. do a nandroid backup, format the rom, install the new rom, reboot and I am good to go?!
Wow I think I am starting to understand all of this now!
Now a really complex question, is it possible to have two rom's installed so for example I could have a stable on that I can use all of the time but then also a beta version so that I could beta test as and when I wanted to but obviously revert back to the stable version if it was too buggy.
A lot in one post I know! Sorry!
Thanks
Johnathon

Read the Guides at Dev thread mate. It should be easy for you.

If you have a stable version you use Rom manager to take a backup before you install a new. If your done playing / testing you restore the backup...
If you use certain backup tools for your sms, apps... you dont have to backup your Rom every time. Just use those tools to restore sms, apps, ...
Enjoy testing your new rom's

Thanks for that! Guess it was kind of an obvious answer really to just take a full backup of the ROM that I am happy with and then restore that if I want to roll back
Only one outstanding thing now is that am I ok to go up and down versions of the os as long as I do a full format first then an install from zip or restore?
Ignore the bit about ping chat and e-mail, they both seem to have been working without any issues today, very strange!

that's true, thx for sharing

[Q] new android user need help :)

hi there.
i got my legend 3 days ago
i got it from some guy that used it for a while, he told me that it has installed superuser whit it the phone can run normaly, including updates, reading every simcards etc....
now i've read that for legend is released 2.2 sw, but my phone is running on 2.1-update1
and dont show me new updates when i click to check for it...
so guys plss can some of you post me here a step by step tutorial what should i do
to get my phone running on froyo or gingerbread if its possible
ty in advanced
confused android user
There's already plenty of tutorials in Development / stickies, some are not stickied, so you might have to search a bit...
As for the update, best way for you check few ROMs and install via ROM manager since you are rooted... B0.7 is particulary good one
ok i manager to install cyanogenmod 6.1 on my legend works great
btw why i cant login my acc on XDA app in phone?
you can go to the market and download Rom Manager... my preferred way in managing rom. it can download rom too ;-), if you found new rom that you want to test other than the ones found in Rom Manager. download it and put it on the root of your sd card so that its easy to look for.
eg. Blay0's B 0.7 rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866849
or
CM7 from here. http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=legend
and remember to Wipe Data and Cache if its a new ROM to avoid boot loop.
you can then use "Manage and Restore Backups" to jump between roms that you've backup or rename them to not get mix-up...
Have fun ^^

[Q] HD2

So my sister has the hd2 leo with the WP6.5 and wants me to switch it to the android so my questions are:
What will be needed to make it a stand alone os not a dual boot?
Which version is stable on the hd2 (2.1, 2.2, or 2.3)?
What files might be needed for root, backup/restore?
Will the android market work fine with this install?
Am I leaving out and needed files?
and
Out of the hundreds of threads here which offers the best and easiest walkthrough?
I am a little familiar with the process because I did root my lg-optimus-zv9 and custom rom and have the nand backup so I am guessing it will be some what similar, and I didn't brick or have troubles with that process except finding the drivers needed.
Only my personal opinion, but i like tytungs builds (without Sense). they are clean and fast just as i like it
[26.JAN][DFT/CWM] NexusHD2-Froyo V1.9G [Android2.2.2][Kernel: tytung_r2_oldcam]
[23.FEB][DFT/CWM] NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.2 [Android2.3.2][Kernel: tytung_r6_oldcam]
This thread guided me well trough the flashing process.
For Backup/Restore CWM (in above ROM included) is very good to Backup the complete ROM. If you only want to save Apps/Settings Titanium Backup is the best choise.
For importing old contacts from WM 6.5 see here
Android Market works without Problems.
Hope that helps a little bit,
uxu

[Q] Which Mikhei777 ROM to use?

I (well my wife) is using Mikhei777 Sense 3.0 ROM (original version). There are some issues with it and I want to upgrade it for her. Should I use the latest sense 3.0 version or move to his sense 3.5 ROM. Anyone using these ROM's? Please advise.
Also instruction regarding upgrading would be useful, do not want to destroy my wife's current setup and applications.....
Thank you.
Anyone using these ROM's?
help please.....
Backup your current apps/games etc with Titanium Backup.
Then follow the flashing guides or instructions in rom thread. You may want to use teh HD2 toolkit as it will make things easier.
Btw, double and tipple posting doesnt help.

RE: Shifting to Android

Any other suggestion in this regard will be great.
Looking for some quick reply.
Hi Adiyant, I have quite similar specification in my EU Leo: stock vodafone rom 3.14; spl3.03; radio 2.15.50.14; and running 3 android rom from SD:
Android ICS 4.0.4 Tosti Droid: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1492488 (trying the newest)
Android CM7 HyperDroid: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1585420 (stable & fast)
Android 2.3.5 + Sense 3.5 de MCCM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1289477 (trying Sense3.5)

1. Strange problem. Are you sure you entered correct username & password? I am using AmericananDroid and never had such a problem.
2. You may transfer contacts from WM to Android, using Spb Migration Tool or any other migration tool. Also you may use MobilEdit or MyPhoneExplorer and copy your Outlook contacts to your phone.
moving now to android general section.

Thanks for the info.
Mentioned issues solved. Now I am on to fB, it says that a newer version is available, but as i go to the market it says your device is not compatible.
Please advise which fB application should i use or which one is the best one for HD2 android.
If you can provide me with link it will be really great.
Dual Boot
Just out of curiosity, why dual boot versus and fresh NAND install of Android?

Its simple, I can not leave WinMo. Its what makes this device wonderful.
Plus there are less complications and more options. Eg : I can install 3 SD Android ROM simultaneously with WinMO keeping all my things safe.

Omnia 7 Factory Rom

Hi Chaps
Ive been looking for either a factory rom or something very basic and lightweight for my omnia 7
Currently I have the Tango V4 installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571068) and my whatsapp will crash after about an hours worth of talking and i need to reboot the phone (ive reinstalled it)
any suggestions for a lightweight rom or links to a factory rom would be great as i seem to find dead links
I have ftp space if anyone can kindly upload one for me
Thankyou in advance
Why don't you try mi7ROM NOKIA edition, by Miro? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782388
It works great, you can try no-skin version if you like the default look, and can also download Nokia apps with no hassle whatsoever. There are some preinstalled apps, but you can hardly call them "bloatware", just some tiny applications that you could uninstall if you really don't need them. I couldn't think of any reason to get back to stock ROM after I've seen this nicely cooked ROM in action...

i had the problem with whatsapp crashing, too. very annoying indeed. but it is not your ROM s fault, its an app-error i believe (the latest whatsapp update). what i did was to uninstall whatsapp and sideload any older version and the problem was gone. if you want i can send you an older version (1.8) of whatsapp which works without any problems.
Thread moved. Start such threads in the General section only.
what i did was to uninstall whatsapp
