[Kaiser] ***Idea for new App*** - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Im in need of some assistance here, i have a nuisance caller txtin me all the time with silly things to say. Im a Team Leader in a Security Company and its my job to keep people on and let people go. Theres been lots of different people who have left due to my decision for management. Now im getting nuisance txt messages from a number which i would like to trace.
Ive looked at different types of websites, followus, trackme and all these need confirmation before the tracking process can begin. Is there anything out there that can help me in my quest for justice? Is it possible for someone to create a little app for the kaiser to get me some details regarding this fool who has not stopped stressing me out? Im a single dad with 2 kids to look after and im not getting any sleep due to this.
Any help would be grateful!
Before you ask
- I cant just turn my phone on silent as i am on call 24/7 also my mum is critically ill in hospital and i cant afford to miss calls.
- I dont want to block the number as i would like to know who this person is.
- Ive called my service provider and they have a 'all or nothing' policy
- I dont want to change my number because that means this person wins and i lose my number which i have had for 10years

Thats quiet a handy application but isnt there anything out there that would give away someones location or even details of the sender if the number is registered to an address?

Have a look at Net Caller ID. It works pretty good.

That one does. Well, it wont give the location of the caller (cell phone), but it will give you an address if there is one associated, and it can be found online.

no there is no way to do it. the only possible way would be for you to infect the switchboard with a virus that when it sees your imei or esn depending on your gsm/cdma status talking to a cell tower it broadcasts the caller id information from a preprogrammed selection that you put in the code of the virus. but like i said. unless you wanna goto jail for infecting a switchboard like that then my answer is still no.

Don't quote me on this but I think cingular has a feature now that allows you to prevent your name from showing only. It's called "Calling name block" and it is a free service. What actually shows is the number and "wireless caller". Otherwise....(I have a 8525) and I can go to phone options to select or deselect to BLOCK my caller ID. This will block everything. I hope this answers your questions.

Also to block your outgoing Caller ID info dial #31# before the number and it will show unavailable. I put my most address book entries this way.
... Or become a POP or telco provider, a little like Skype has done - it'll show SMSes which you send from your skype client as being sent from your Skype profile name when the recipient views them. Which is pretty funky.
Of course, I immediately tried to change my skype name to "Your Mum", because I'm infantile like that but unfortunately it didn't change it. Still pretty cool, though.

where is mobile justice

where is mobile justice in the tnt 2.0 pro at thanks
You can get it here - http://sourceforge.net/projects/mjustice
I'm still trying to figure out exactly why anyone with a wizard (or any model that doesn't have GPS integrated into it, which is most of them) would want to use it anyway. The only thing you can do with it is send text messages to whoever stole it that will show up on the screen without them actually knowing that they recieved a text message. Doesn't seem like much of a deterent to me.
programs/accessories/MJConfig <<<
Just curious, I went to the Mobile Justice site and it implies it only works on GPS enabled phones. Will it still work on a MDA, and if so, will it transmit SIM information so you can identify the thief or provide information to the police so they can track it down?

You haven't looked to see what all the program does... Sure we can't use the GPS part, but the main feature is you register your SIM card(s) to MobileJustice and if someone was to put in a SIM card that isn't registered, when the phone reboots it will send out an SMS to devices you have registered. You will then have the phone number of the sim that is now in your phone.
And yes, you can then send SMS to that phone number in a formatted way (if you enable this feature) and text boxes will show up on the phone...
I've also put in a request with the author to have another reply type message so you can send an SMS to the phone and it will reply back with the IMSI of the SIM card currently installed (so you can report both the IMSI and phone number to your carrier. Hopefully you keep your IMEI number safe someplace already so you can report that as well).
So this is a very capable freeware program for the Wizard. We just can't use the GPS feature (although if the thief hooks a GPS device up to it, that may work. Anyone with a GPS attachment that can test that?)
Sorry mfrazzz, I for some reason forgot the fact that it sent you back their phone number also.
Another thing that would be cool if the programmer could add would be if it sent you back their sim contacts, that way you could start calling all of their contacts and let them know that their son/daughter/employee/spouse/friend or whatever is a thief and possibly find out the persons name and maybe even their address in the process. That way you could notify the police exactly who stole it as you're filling out the stolen phone report.

Actually I think its been requested for either that, or access to the PIM database (too much info I'd think for that though).

Substitute GSM Codes for Slydial?

Does anyone know how to directly use GSM Codes to accomplish what Slydial does? My problem with Slydial is that you're providing them with 2 valid phone numbers with each use.
I assume by the way you phrased it, that you believe SlyDial is going to sell the numbers to people?
And just to let people know, SlyDial is a service that connects directly to the voicemail of someone, without having to ring, so you can leave a voicemail without them getting a missed call, sorta thing.
when i tried it, it also made a missed call on the recepients phone.

Not necessarily, but the potential is there. For similar privacy concerns, I also wouldn't use any of the online PC backup solutions being offered (I do sector-by-sector image backups locally, FWIW).
The point is that I was presuming that they were inserting some sort of code (GSM?) before completing your call, and that we should be able to send that code ourselves, from our own phones for free, before dialing the phone numbers (yes, I know the offered service is free if you don't mind listening to a 15-sec ad). I just don't know the how to do it. A pretty good synopsis of Slydial is available at BetaNews.

Multitasking limitations of HTC Imagio?

AT&T claims that Verizon 3G doesn't permit web data searches at the same time that a voice phone connection is going on. Is that true? Why? How inconvenient is this? Is there any problem multitasking data activities, e.g., downloading email while downloading a web page?
short answer is yes
Verizon and AT&T use different technologies. Verizon CDMA. AT&T uses GSM. CDMA doesn't allow voice and data simultaneously. However, it is really a non issue as most people don't surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time. It's really not that intuitive to do. But, multitasking in general is reliant on the phone's operating system. Winmo allows for multi tasking and HTC helps it be even more managable with their task master tool and the addition of allowing the "X" to either close programs or minimize them.
Basically, AT&T is just mad about VZW's "there's a map for that" commercials and because their lawsuit was thrown out. What AT&T doesn't tell you is that their most popular phone, the iphone, doesn't allow multi tasking of any kind and that is by apple's design.
edit: To answer you about data: you can email and surf the web with no problem as they both use data connection.
I wonder if you use both the CDMA and GSM radios can you talk and surf at the same time?
Verizon is CDMA only, and ATT is GSM only. You can turn on GSM and CDMA at the same time, but only one will be used depending on the network.
Hmmm, does this mean that I need to hang up the call if I need to do a Google search? Say someone calls me and wants to meet me at a specific bar... do I need to hang up do a Google search for the bar location and call them back to tell them that I now know how to get there?... With my AT&T phone I do this without having to hang up the call. I also reference Yelp based on My GPS Location frequently as I talk to friends via speaker phone about restaurants or bars near by. I guess this requires two way data and GPS location to work simultaneously... Can the Imagio do this?
my .02 is if you are on the phone with a friend or business associate and they invite you somewhere that you dont know the location of, ask them. i would be pretty offended if on a personal or business call the other person was tapping away at their phone browsing the web. i get my texts during calls thats enough for me. and like it was said, their most popular phone, the iphone cant even multi-task.

So, if you call someone to ask them for a phone number that's stored in their phone... you'd would rather have them hang up and call you back because you'd be "offended" by the tapping as they search for the phone number you asked for? I get a few calls a week from people asking me for phone numbers... I open my contacts list, find the number and give to them... without hanging up... so far, no one has been offended. When I do a Google search while talking, as a matter of courtesy, I let the person on the other end know what I'm doing. Btw, I don't own an iPhone.
If I make a phone call to ask specifically for information that is traditionally and typically stored in a phone, I obviously wouldnt be offended. The example regarded a very specific situation: pointless internet searches (ie: googling an address instead of asking the person who you are currently on the phone with that invited you) its simply poor conversation skills to say "hang on im going to use the internet while i keep you on the phone" instead of "wheres joes bar again?"
I hardly ever talk on my phone and I don't think I've ever even thought of using my data connection while on the phone.
Seems kinda stupid to me anywho

You neglected to add that in A LOT of cities your phone can't even get a signal to talk or go on the web to help anyone find something.

Let's no compare apples to oranges... I know and understand the shortcomings of the AT&T's network signal and the inability of some so-called Smartphones that do not multitask... For me a Smartphone is a device that allows me accomplish several tasks. Having the ability to perform some of these tasks simultaneously (assuming voice/data signal availability) is what I'm talking about. If I'm talking on the phone and the person on the other end wants a picture or a document that I have stored on my phone... I like the convenience of being able to send it without having to hang up. It's not a show-stopper for me, but it's a nice feature to have.

I do not assume that what anyone else wants to do with their phone is "pointless". I use my phone features in certain ways and you can use yours as you please. Some devices are a better fit for you and others for me. As I look for a replacement for my AT&T phone and want to find out the +/- of the devices that appeal to me.... I ask questions about their features.
Poor conversation skills? You are assuming quite a bit about the specific situation I mentioned... The person that called me did not know how to get to the bar... I Goggled it and found the directions from the location where he originated the call. I helped him get to where we were going to meet... Poor communications skills?... Doubt it... I did it all without having to interrupt the conversation.
Totally legit scenario tamanaco, and I'm with you. I just did a quick test calling my desk phone. I was able to multitask on my Imagio while connected (e.g. was able to navigate to contacts to look up a phone #, launch apps, etc.). BUT I was not able to use a data connection. I was able to launch the Opera browser, but was not able to navigate to any web page successfully. So forget looking up directions online while talking.
FWIW, I haven't run across this issue in the real world, but none-the-less it bums me out a little that I can't do voice & data at the same time.

You _can_ launch any other application, including looking up phone numbers in your contact list, while on the Imagio.
One cute feature is that if you pull out the stylus while on the phone, it automatically launches the notepad app, with the person's name, number and time of call filled in. Then you can write notes either with the stylus or type them in. Pretty handy, especially if you're in a field that needs diagrams. You can also add a recording.
You just can't search on the internet for those numbers while talking. Well, unless you're using a VoIP app like Skype. Then you can do both voice and data simultaneously even on Verizon. I've done it.

I can't help with the number but one very important thing to check is to look after some rogue app (probably hidden as something benign, like a free ringtone app or something) that does the messaging - something like App Ops X might help.
Oh, and about the number - in many countries numbers that take money from you (by SMS or calls) must be registered with a central authority - check for that in your country and contact it!
