What pc-suite are you trying to install? I only think the HTC-sync is to be installed for the Hero. That is to be found on youre sd-card or downloadable @HTC.
Please tell us more about the 'pc-suite' you are trying to install. Never heard of it. HTC-sync is just a normal .exe that is to be installed as you normally install .exe-files.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh still dont work
i am installing it from the download from the htc site i have tried running ms clean up utility no joy i have also tried it on a blank profile still no joy i need help on this this is doin my head in

Simples.
(If you later have issues getting the PC to 'see' the Hero, have a look at this)

Duplicate - please ignore / delete depending on level of power!

Sorry. Not so simples then

HTC Sync 2.0.33 which was released yesterday does not solve the problem. Installing vcredist package does not work for me (probably due to presence of newer version). But I found walkaround.
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) from Microsoft site (www_microsoft_com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en). Note it's x86 version released on 4/10/2006 with no service pack.
Unzip vcredist_x86.exe. There's only one file VCREDI~1.EXE
Unzip VCREDI~1.EXE to %TEMP%/IXP001.TMP/ directory (create one).
Launch HTC Sync install
Im not sure if it's neccessary but i also copied registry branch
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{A49F249F-0C91-497F-86DF-B2585E8E76B7}
to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

Activpync wont install on my computer...

Any reasons why not? Im on Windows XP yet it comes up a warning saying that it will only work on computers with XP!
This is very frustrating...
Is there any other way to link my phone up to my computer? I would really like to transfer some music onto it
Have you got SP2 installed?
I cant, I dont have a genuine Windows.
Do you NEED SP2? Surely there is a way around this...
I can download activesync 3.8 but I think I need the drivers for the phone?
Any help... PLEASE!?!
I've had the same problem with my XP version
impossible also to install an update from windows site
I had to install an update on my windows 2000, that worked
and then activesync 4.1 finally worked 100%
other way to work around that was to download things on XP
put them on my old SPV E200 with activesync 3.7 wich works
and then send the things on my SPV M3000 by bluetooth...

Or get a Legit copy of Windows XP!!!
You run a pirate operating system then compalin when software doesn't work with it properly.
Come back when you have a license. Is your Wizard stolen as well?
hmmm dude...
the post isnt if its right or wrong to steal windows! Its to do with how we can cheat them more!
I think the only way round this is to download a crack to get xp2.
If I could find the drivers for the phone would it work on activesync 3.8?
PS. No my phone is not stolen, Im sure you have a copied CD in your collection somewhere too.
There's a vast number of copied XP versions with SP2 pre-installed available out there. Should be all you need.
I can get a legal copy of windows xp from somewhere...
But to install it would I loose all of my documents?
chrisredmayne: it would be in your interest to backup your docs (and whole system) before installing SP2, even if your windows is legit. It's a big install!
You could make your own SP2 install disk, by "slipstreaming" SP2 into a windows install disk. Also, there are cracks for SP2, and there are also cracks for trial versions of windows.
I imagine the ActiveSync install could probably be cracked to skip the SP2 check, but it's not a long term solution.
I don't recommend any of this. When you start using SP2 and Windows in the future, you'll have to have a legitimate copy to download certain updates from Microsoft, so you might as well get hold of a legit windows, one way or the other. OEM copies are stupidly cheap, and you can even buy an OEM Media Center install for a small amount of money.

there is a piece of software at
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2 called "card export II"
allows you to make the wizard look like a mass storage device, so activesync is not needed to transfer to the storage card.
ps (takes a few goes to install)
I dont get how to install it, only looked at it for a minute though. I unpacked all of the files, and it asks to open a prc file? and press hotsync on the cradle... (Guess that means phone).... Stumped
if i remember correctly .prc files are for palm user's not pocket pc.
i think you have downloaded the wrong version!
Use cardreader to download into mSD, anything you want:
Music, apps, but you need cab files to install it from mSD card.

aliendad, can you confirm you actually have Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC working on a wizard device? I have tried this on my k-jam and it didnt work at all. Even when i contacted Softick support they have said they are still working on a WM5 / Wizard compatible version.
EDIT: i just went and downloaded v2.10 of CE2PPC (which funnily enough isnt even mentioned on the website). In the setup i downloaded, i found there is a WM5 ARM install cab however this still fails to install on my Wizard / K-JAM as with all the previous versions.
Thanks
Chris
You need a minimum of SP1. You do not need SP2. For ActiveSync 4.1. If you cannot pass the genuine validation tool you need to enable automatic updates and to install them automatically. You cannot use the Windows Update site. If you set to install Critical Updates automatically it should bring down SP2 (as it is considered a Critical Update)
Also you can just download SP2 (the full install) and you should be able to install it. It should not require validation as you can install it if not connected to the network.
Although the above may not work if you truly have a messed up version of XP. I am assuming you have either a cracked version of a legit copy or an invalid product code.
I have read about people cracking XP Media Center 2005 and all worked well until the Genuine Validation tool. Then somebody came out with a crack for that.
Good Luck
I just got a disk with XP so I think its a fake validation code that I have.
I downloaded the SP2 from the windows update site, and from a random site somewhere that I searched on google for.
The problem was that when I tried to install it stopped after a few minutes and said that it wasnt a genuine windows. So Im guessing any version that I download will have the same check on it.
But I shall try and turn my updates on later and see if it works, or give that other program a go!

yes, is does work, had to do a lot of soft reseting but now have a quick access icon at the bottom of the screen to select card export or active sync.
a few days ago did a hard reset, and installed card export as one of the first installs and it installed much more smoothly that the earlier install.
ps great prog makes things much easier, can't install activesync at work.

Errors installing .msi files

Hi all.
I have recently bought an O2 Exec and am very pleased with it as both a pda and phone. This forum helped me make this decision, so thanks for that.
I am though having trouble installing any .msi files, for example the .NET v2.
When I click on the file on my storage card, I get the error message saying that there is no application associated with NETCFSetupv2. Run this application first and then open up within this program.
I thought that an msi was a microsoft installer and should just work by tapping it?
thanks for your help.
/Mad
As far as I understand, the MSI is run on the PC not the Universal.
aha!
thank you so much. That worked.

Mac support

I am looking for a way to sync ical with my tasks and appointments on my phone. Ive found software online and whatnot, but nothing for 5.0. anyone know of anything? I would really appreciate it.
Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
I'm using Missing Sync for Windows Mobile on my OS X MBP. It works great and you can install .cab applications with it as well. Unfortunately you still need a windows machine/install to install the .exe stuff but I've found most software vendors for PPC apps supply a .cab install option now as well.
http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php
cool ill track down a PC and try it out. THanks!
You won't need a PC to install Missing Sync, it's a Mac universal binary. What I was speaking of are applications for the PPC device that require you to run an executable on a host PC (windows) to then install the application on to your device. However I just found this on another forum and I think I'm going to give it a try.
File Juicer - one of the features is "Extract CAB files from Pocket PC self installing EXE files" once you have the .cab you can install the application via missing sync.

You should have a Active Sync (Windows XP) connection with your device.
For Windows Vista and Windows 7 you must connect through Windows Mobile Device Center.
Active Sync 4.5 and Windows Mobile Device Center are free for download from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync-download.mspx
It looks like the framework is being installed on your PC but it will be installed on your phone.
You must have .net compact framework 3.5 from my link above.
ok downloaded every thing you have stated and installed accordingly but im still no further forward if you could add me to msn and help me out id really appreciate it buddy add me : [email protected] thanks alot guys

Download this:

and run it on your PC. The idea is that it'll then copy CF3.5 to your device the next time you connect via activesync. If it doesn't do that for some reason then goto C:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\SDK\CompactFramework\v3.5\WindowsCE on your PC and copy the file NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab onto your D2. Then using the D2, find that file in File Explorer and click on it, to install it manually.

That link is for the desktop .NET 3.5, not the Compact Framework, which kinda explains why people were having no success with it!
I have isntalled on my PC compact version and same problem ...
see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347537. Download the cab file and put in on the sd-card, doubleclick on the file
NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab and install process begin. I hope it works for yoy

If you don't use Activesync, you may want to get just the cab file instead. Just google for NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab, then instal like any other app, to the main memory.
Also, whilst you're about it, google netcfcfg.cab. This app lets you set windows CF policy, so that all apps which need CF2.0 to run will automatically use your newly installed CF3.5, which is apparently better and more stable.
The file sizes should be 2644KB and 34KB respectively.

For what it's worth, the above mentioned netcfcfg.cab .NET config program is part of the CF 3.5 Power Toys, available from MS here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...14-a27d-4148-bf01-86c2e0953eab&displaylang=en

Question about TabletPC Patch installation

Hi everybody!
I finally have come to a satisfactory end with the installation of WinXP Home SP3 on my HTC Shift.
Nevertehless, while having the XP features running nomally, I got trouble starting the TabletPC side of the things, i.e.:
1. There is an icon for the on-screen keyboard "Tablet PC Input Panel" in the taskbar (on the r/h side) but it doesn't open-up anything.
2. I also have this "Get going with TabletPC" in Start Menu/Programs, but clicking it doesn't start anything.
3. During Windows start-up or shut-down I can see the on-screen keyboard for several seconds.
I wonder if this is a due to a faulty install of the TabletPC patch or something else that I did wrong. I remember that after installing the patch I had a special welcome screen of the TabletPC offering 2 options to follow - one was "Get going with TabletPC" and another one I can't remeber the name of. Anyway, I did not chose any option, I just closed that screen and went ahead with the installation of the drivers. So far I did not find a way to start that welcome screen again.
In MyComputer / Properties / General I can read MS Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.
The installation sequence was XP Home - Patch Tablet PC - Drivers - Windows updates - I guess that this is the correct way.
Running the patch again after the drivers and updates, on Step 1 I got the message that the program cannot write to all the registries as some might be busy with other programs. Running Step2 doesn't change anything.
BTW: what is Step 3 for? It was not mentioned in the HowTo installation guide to be run (only Steps 1 and 2), so I did not touch it.
As this is the first time I see TabletPC at work, I kindly ask for good advise from the more experienced people on what to do further to make the TabletPC side work.
Here are also a few questions more:
a) Does the TabletPC Patch work OK with WinXP Home SP3 or does it require WinXP Professional? (I installed Home thinking that it is smaller and lighter)
b) Where to look in the installed files on c:\ and what to look for in order to make sure that the TabletPC files are there
c) How can I bring back that welcome TabletPC screen to play with it
Thank's very much for any usefull idea!
Hi!
It looks that there are very few people left on this forum still using Win XP on their Shift and also reading my thread....
To make the above raised topic more simple let me rephrase one question for the start:
Are there any members having on their HTC Shift the Tablet PC patch installed based on Win XP Home and NOT on XP Professional? Does the Tablet PC work all right with XP Home?
I certainly would much appreciate any confirmation or denial. Thank you.
Size of the TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe file?
Hi everybody!
Please, I need somebody to confirm me that the correct size of the TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe file is 154734723B in Windows Commander, shown also in Windows Explorer as 151109kB. I need to know if I got the correct file, if not then that would explain my above mentioned problems.
Thank you!

Hi axelTP2 !
Since i ordered this days an used Shift (hope it will arrive tomorrow) im thinking of upgrading my Shift with XP or Win7 (I hate Vista)
So i looked a little around and find this at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Tablet_PC_Edition#Tablet_PC_Edition
"Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is based on Windows XP Professional and includes all the software features provided in it"
So i think your problem is related to the (lighter) version of XP Home...
OK im not sure what i should use XP Pro as an lightweight OS or Win7 for full further support maybe give Vista a try for a few days

Hi tokl,
Thank you for answering.
No, my problem is not related to the use of XP Home. I have tried XP Prof with the same negative result. I think that the problem is related to a bad pack TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2 that I have downloaded from the only source that I've found.
So I keep digging for a solution on this topic.

This is probably more work than just a simple file patch, but since this is a technical site by nature, I don't think it's too much to put this suggestion here, which is a tutorial for you to patch your XP youself to make it w/ full Tablet functionality, same as real Tablet Edition:

Good luck!
