Hi all.
I have recently bought an O2 Exec and am very pleased with it as both a pda and phone. This forum helped me make this decision, so thanks for that.
I am though having trouble installing any .msi files, for example the .NET v2.
When I click on the file on my storage card, I get the error message saying that there is no application associated with NETCFSetupv2. Run this application first and then open up within this program.
I thought that an msi was a microsoft installer and should just work by tapping it?
thanks for your help.

As far as I understand, the MSI is run on the PC not the Universal.
aha!
thank you so much. That worked.

Hi all,
Having a spot of trouble trying to install anything onto my MDA Vario, I generally search for WM5 software/games and everytime I try to install I get this message.
XXXXX is not a valid pocket PC application
Any clues?
Thanks
Sounds like your installing an exe that needs to be installed via pc using activesync. You can download activesync from the M$ website. The latest version is 4.2 as far as i know.
If you are downloading exe files, try opening them on the pc first. Most of the exe files are installation files that need to be executed from the computer. Some, very few, are actually compiled executables that only have to be copied to the PPC and run from there.
You will also come across CAB files. These files are my preference because you just copy them to the PPC and execute it there, and it installs the files right on the PPC.
Had a problem running activesync, it used to loop my pc when I attached the device. Since then I reinstalled XP Pro OS and reinstalled activesync (probably old version conflicting)
It now works a treat and loads up all my software!
Many thanks
Hi guys / gals
I have an XDA11i and want to add .net compact 2.0 to it so that I can run hitchhiker or wififofum etc .
How do I install the .net framework ? do I just add it to the active sync folder and let it get patched across ? or do I load it to another folder on the Pda and run it ?
Am having fun with my work network whih at the moment is stopping me down loading the file any way but I believe my It dept can get round that one for me.
Help greatfully appreciated

I am a bit unclear:
In which format is the installation you have?
Usually you download the desktop installer from MS. (I believe it is an .msi file). Then you just connect you device, double click on the file on your PC and it does everything else automatically.
If you just have the .cab file, copy it to your device, then click on it from the file explorer (on the device).
That's it.
If you need to download it you can do it here.
Easiest way: dock your Alpine.
Download and run the .msi file from the Microsoft URL mentioned above (it's the latest version of the .net compact framework). Let the installation run its course, and as it goes it'll transfer the CABs over to your device and then they'll install. I don't think (if memory serves) any user intervention is actually required.
One soft reset later: bang, you're sorted.
Thanks guys
Took your advice and all sorted , as you said it does it all its self , no intervention .
Now have hitchhiker and wififofum all up and running although a big drain on system rescources .

I've spent days and night trying to install a cab. file on my ppc without a succes now how a hell can I desable the certificate and signiture of this file.
thanks a lot for your help
You can try a program called certification off "Cert_SPCS.cab" it turns off the validation in WM5 (not sure if it works with later ROMs but worth trying)
Search for it.
Or go to: www.pdamagician.com/wm5software
I have already done it, still get the same message" installation was unsuccessful the program or seting cannot be installed because it does not have suffisient system permissions. Other solution will be highly apreciated, thanks anyway
Have a read of this thread, might help you !!

Do you use a pocket pc device or a smartphone?
For pocket pc you can use my tool to turn off security.
So no prompt when you install or start an application with
no certificate.
Copy to device and start after some seconds a message box
is displayed with the result.

Thanks Houser for your precious help, unfortunatly this did not work, I still get the same borring message concerning cab signature. What if we unpack the cab file, unsighned it and then repack it again. I wish I was a programmer!!
NB. The device is a pocket pc with WM 2006 onboard
Now lets get it strait, who can help me to re-build this bt patch for an Eten M700. This later can make the device compatible with a pioneer car headunit.

You can drag and drop CABs there, or ever better, associate .CAB files with it in Vista, so, all you need to do to install a CAB is a double click (while having ActiveSync on of course)
wow so fast reply.thank u so much..i hope it works on vista.

^^this works fine for me on vista, i just right click on the cab then send to, WinCE cab installer
Doesn't work for me. Get access denied. And what's worse: you can't uninstall the damn thing.
Edit:
Found it, just remove the Send to entry and delete cabinst.exe from Windows folder.

same error here..**** i donno what to do..i googled for hours but found nothing..anyone can write a script?
plzzz help
even i am getting that file access denied.what to do???
Having recently upgraded to Windows 7, I bumped into this issue as well and googled my way to this thread, but found no solutions like you guys.
It seems that all would be well if I turned off User Account Control, which, however, I don't really want to.
Thus I did more searches and found the following article:
Selectively disable UAC for your trusted Vista applications
Although the steps described in the above article did not prevent a UAC prompt from popping up, my installation of WinCE CAB Installer works now.

What pc-suite are you trying to install? I only think the HTC-sync is to be installed for the Hero. That is to be found on youre sd-card or downloadable @HTC.
Please tell us more about the 'pc-suite' you are trying to install. Never heard of it. HTC-sync is just a normal .exe that is to be installed as you normally install .exe-files.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh still dont work
i am installing it from the download from the htc site i have tried running ms clean up utility no joy i have also tried it on a blank profile still no joy i need help on this this is doin my head in

Sorry. Not so simples then
HTC Sync 2.0.33 which was released yesterday does not solve the problem. Installing vcredist package does not work for me (probably due to presence of newer version). But I found walkaround.
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) from Microsoft site (www_microsoft_com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en). Note it's x86 version released on 4/10/2006 with no service pack.
Unzip vcredist_x86.exe. There's only one file VCREDI~1.EXE
Unzip VCREDI~1.EXE to %TEMP%/IXP001.TMP/ directory (create one).
Launch HTC Sync install
Im not sure if it's neccessary but i also copied registry branch
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{A49F249F-0C91-497F-86DF-B2585E8E76B7}
