Varying location in weather app - Hero, G2 Touch General

Me and my wife received 2 Heroes on the release date in Denmark. 1 white for her and a brown one for me.
Both were unpacked, charged, and fired up at the same time. Both running perfectly.
But in the weather app, my wife's Hero is showing the name of our hometown, and mine is showing "Present location".
After 2 weeks, I rooted mine for downloading paid applications in Market. It didn't make any change.
3 days ago, I flashed both of them with the new official ROM from HTC's website.
But still...: My wife's phone is showing the name of our town, and my phone is showing "Present location" (in Danish though... *lol*)
My wife keeps telling me, that her phone is WAY smarter than mine, so I need some useful piece of advice!!!

add your location to the list of locations. I.e. tap the weather widget> + symbol and at the top add current location. If my memory serves me well I added Manchester and it started working okay.
However, I also use latitude, so i'm not sure if that apps is serving the results...hmm. Give it a go and you'll see what happens.
Girls they like pulling our leg, lol. Tell her that your's is prettier

Weather Woes

I am feeling frustrated. I have now tried EIGHT weather programs, none of which deliver what I would like to have. What I want is
1. A discrete Today screen line with the 7 day forecast for a chosen city, which can readily be changed.
2. Ability to set the program to sync by Activesync (or wifi) only (when I am traveling to foreign countries) and otherwise to autoupdate. I'd be happies with 'autoupdate only by activesync'.
3. Either a small memory footprint, or the ability to run off the SD card
4. Good forecasts (e.g. in US: NOAA or weather.com and *NOT* gismeteo.ru)
5. International cities
I would also be happy just to have RSS feeds for the cities I am interested in, but RSS feeds seem to only go two days out and be mostly composed of advertisements for weather.com.
Here are my notes on the programs I have tried.
SPB Weather 1.6.2: Version 1.5 worked well for me until recently, and has a great interface. However it kept downloading data by GPRS connection even though I had set it not to do so, and used a lot of data in Europe, which cost me at least $100. This problem (others report similar problems, though usually the opposite: set to update but didn't) was allegedly fixed by an upgrade to 1.6.2, but the upgrade killed off weather.com as a source and the new source -- gismeteo.ru -- doesn't have data for Pasadena, CA weather! (It found the city, but came back 'data not available.' Moreover, the program is over 2MB and doesn't run well of the SD card. Hence my search for a new program.
Fizz Weather 2.3: This program seemed very promising. It has all the right settings. The interface is klugy -- it takes a lot of clicks to change cities, see forecasts, etc. -- but it promises to do everything I want and has weather maps besides. However, it messed up the activesync connection somehow; once it updated over activesync, nothing else could run, even after the program stopped. Fizz ran well off minisd, though. I had to wipe and install a backup to recover activesync functionality.
Weathertogo 4.0: Free! Max of 3 cities and US only. No good for international.
Stocks and Weather Today; This program might work but is the opposite of discrete -- moving icons and large images and spinning storms. This is ideal for some people, but I found it too distracting and garish.
Pocketweather: This seems to be very similar to spb weather, perhaps a little better (extra screens of information available). But it has the same defects, too: gismeteo.ru data and the user is strongly advised not to run off minisd card.
Weather forecast 101: Attractive price ($1.99) but US only.
ADB Weather: Couldn't find Pasadena, CA data, probably uses gismeteo.ru feed.
Handy Weather (penreader.com): 3MB in size, but runs off SD card. Miserable city selection (but not a big deal since adding cities isn't frequent). Requires too much today screen real estate -- no discrete mode. Very economical on data: 2KB per city per download claimed, 3KB experienced. This is what I am currently using, with a link in PHM traylaunch to fire it up, and the today screen part disabled. Subscription service ($15/year); data from their own site, I think from accuweather (hearsay).
I'm in the same boat ... any news on that ?
Thanks
Handyweather
In the end, I paid for handy weather. It takes too much space on the today screen so I don't use it there, but it can run off the sd card, it takes very little data (4K per city tops), has lots of cities. This has worked well enough for me even though it isn't optimal.
I did experiment with weathertogo because it has a great today screen and it is free. It uses NOAA but unfortunately it uses NWS areas for forecasts which are much too large -- I live in Pasadena and my NWS area includes mountains, so it always forecasts freezes for me. It just isn't sufficiently accurate.
I wrote a program to do the updating of my weather and rss feeds, so that it doesn't update when I'm in europe. A great thing about running programs off the sd card is that it doesn't need to be reinstalled after a hard reset.

Good luck and if you find a better program, please post!
There's also WeatherPanel by MarsWare. Not sure if it meets your specs.

Stocks and Weather Today?
That program looks like Stocks and Weather Today, but might be different.
covers half your requirements
you an try weather watcher by singer's creations. it's free and offers half the stuff you were looking for...just doesn't update automatically.

if it doesn't link properly, try searching for weather watcher in google.
Pretty Nice

This program will remember a lot of cities but only seems to store data on one at the time. On the other hand, it provides good information about that city. Pretty nice at the free price. Nice interface. Apparently no today screen support. It was easy to add it to my automatic updating program that updates off activesync. Small footprint and runs off sd card.

After spending a lot of time looking for a decent weather program I ended up with Fizz as well. Like you said, the interface is a bit silly, but it does everything else very well. No problems here with activesync at all, using (the latest) version 2.31.

Hi, I am one of the developers for S & W T so I hope this is OK.
You can turn off the moving icons via the options page if you want.
In addition, I want to let you know that the US weather data is from NOAA and we use an XML service on the Internet to get us the data. This means that when NOAA changes the format of the data (which they do fairly often) you do not have to get an update of the software and reinstall it on your device. Go to http://www.xmlweather-usa.com/getNoaaWeather.php?location=Denver,CO if you want to see an example for the weather for Denver.
A lot of weather applications are always broken because of NOAA web site changes (just look at their bulletin boards (if they have one)). We have been using the XML weather service for over a year now and since we have been using it we have not had to release a single patch to deal with NOAA changes. This make life a lot easier for both us and our customers.
Again, I hope this post was not out of line.

Just wanted to make a comment.. A post like this is always ok.. if a developer of software wants to offer support for their product then all is good, as long as your not specifically here trying to sell your app and spamming the boards.. so your post is definitely OK, and welcome to the boards!
Also i just went to the site and checked out the app, and i must say that the Stocks & Weather Today Themes Edition Is a very interesting concept.. a little to bold for me, but i still like it!
Whatever weather app you decide on just make sure you stay clear of Journal Bar by Omega One. The app itself is a fantasic concept delivered in very tidy and functional today plugin however us users have had little or no service from the product since March last year. Check out this foum to get an idea of how poor Omega one are with regard to support. http://www.technologyatplay.com/main/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4270&start=1
Unfortunetly this app is still on sale on most of the Pocket PC sites.
I have now opted for PocketWeather (ver 1.3.5) and to be honest I am well impressed. It didn't have the city I wanted in the pick list but it does give you the option to manually enter your city based on METAR city codes. Two minutes on Google found the code I needed and I haven't had any promlems since. - I love the earthquake tab!!!!!!

Messenger No Longer Shows on Live Panel

Hey everyone,
I'm new here, attracted by my purchase of an X1 last week. I was disappointed playing with it at first, but after installing lots of things from here I love it - you guys are wizards, thanks!
Anyway, I've hit a problem and would be grateful for some help. Something I installed in the last few days messed up my screen layout - in some menu items the text was slightly shifted to the right, meaning the last word or two was actually chopped off the screen. I tried uninstalling a few things, but nothing helped, so I thought 'factory reset'. This was successful in resolving the issue, and I installed all my apps and panels again.
However, strangely, Messenger was no longer there. My phone is an O2 handset and it was there originally. So I installed Windows Live, only to notice that it ships from Microsoft with no IM installed. So I had to get it from a link here, and it works perfectly. But now, there seems to be a lack of integration with the app and my phone, e.g it does not show up on my Microsoft Live panel (I only get Live and Sync, with the 3rd 'space' empty). Also, I'm sure there used to be an 'instant message' option on the menu of a contact - that's no longer there. It's mainly the shortcut on the Live Panel I'd like back though, any ideas?

MyLocation Weather **(NOT about how MyLocation does not work unless WIFI is on)**

From everything I have read, manila weather gets its information from AccuWeather.com (correct me if I am wrong). Now the suburb in which I live is not listed on AccuWeather.com, although the nearest city is.
However, 'myLocation' not only nails my suburb correctly, it also gives an accurate reading of the weather in my suburb (which is quite different from the nearest city-it is only about 10km away, but it is at the bottom of a hill, while I am at the top).
So my question is simply, does anyone know (or can you hazard a guess at) where it is getting this information from?
You are lucky, I can not get the weather info even I am living in a big city, which has the info at accuweather.com....

For MyLocation to work you need to have wifi turned on, even if your not using wifi! Most if not all cities should work on MyLocation, my small town works fine.

To hazard a guess I would say it uses your GPS location and AccuWeather.com, then using forcasts maps to work out what weather is like at your current location relative to the maps
I do everything but it is not responding (My Location)...
I opened WiFi, DataConnection, 3G..
I find my location from GoogleMaps..
But it is not showing weather update for MyLocation.
I can find my city from weather tab, & it updates the info for my city, BUT FOR MY LOCATION IT IS NOT!!!!
It makes me crazy!!!
I've had strange problems with my location, first happend a while back but started ok showin my uk location but i upgraded to a newer rom version and since then its been showing me livin in some place in finland. I have decided to test xannytechrom and shows my location ok again but i think it was his very first rom he released that started the problem regardless on what rom i went to but i think it might have been somting to do with the manilla but who knows. Im happy its working again

From mypersonal experience, MyLocation does not utilize GPS. I check it indoors where I have no GPS signal and it nails my location. All it utilizes is the Internet connection but beat me if I know how it does it.
you are right it uses the internet connection but only Thru WIFI which sucks!
on other devices it works fine without needing wifi on.
It's using cell positioning just like googlemaps but on the blackstone I think there's something wrong with one of the drivers that does hand over from one connection type to the other..
I did replace oemext with the topaz version, as I suspected this is one of the dlls, it stopped it updating at all! so it's a good chance it's that one..
I haven't tried hex comparing them if decompiling to see what the differences are. .
As to where it gets it's data from I guess it picks up from nearest location in it's database although I'm not certain, I live about 10km outside the nearest city and get totally different weather when I have both my location on at home and the city set.
It's far from perfect; I've just finished video=reviewing the touch2 (HTC_mega) and at work (in the city) while setting my location for the first time, it totally ignored where I was and instead gave me weather from another village about 15km away that I haven't even taken the phone anywhere near !

[Q] Google now - not showing cards..

Hello,
So I've been using Google now for about a month now, and in that time I thought the service should have learn my patterns etc...
However, it hasn't, I have all the privacy intruding options on, e.g. GPS location services etc, and I have my home and work set up correctly, though I haven't had any cards on when I should leave for work, in-fact I haven't had any cards apart from weather at-all. They're all enabled, but it just doesn't show anything?
I've set my home and work locations, and according to Google latitude's history it logged me in at work (when I get there) and at home as-well.
I've looked up some "set-up" tutorials on Google now, and I've done it all apart from this screen:
http://puu.sh/2dPgs
I dont seem to have that screen at all, I have the option but when I go to the option I get this:
(sorry for the blur, I'm very privacy conscious) http://puu.sh/2dPqi
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Could be related, but Google Now seems to be down for me (noticed it was down around 6p and its 9p my time). All I get is local events and my next appointment. Up till this afternoon it has always worked for me (been using jb since it released).
EDIT: It seems that gNow is partially down at the moment others are reporting issues as well http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...301-weather-card-google-now-went-missing.html

Buying a Nexus 6 using "Auto Refresh Plus" chrome extension

The Chrome browser "Auto Refresh Plus" extension was refreshing the page every 5 seconds for me.
When it detected that the words "Out of inventory" were no longer on the webpage, it stopped refreshing the page, and played some loud music so i would be alerted to go and buy one.
this happened at today (11/05/2014) at 1:15pm EST.
I immediately clicked "Add to Cart" and then purchased the 64GB Midnight Blue Nexus6. after i purchased it, i went to see if there were any others available, and they were all sold out before 1:16pm.
I'm not sure if they were in inventory for 1 full minute, but most likely it was seconds.
however, i think they're rolling them out in portions, because a friend of mine bought one at 1:53pm EST
if you use "Auto Refresh Plus" make sure that you go to settings, and in the 'page monitor' section, put a checkmark to enable that feature.
put a checkmark where it says "Popup notification once it LOSES the target text"
checkmark sound candidate 6 seconds
checkmark sound length "play until i click the notification box"
then click save at the bottom
after navigating to the webpage where the nexus6 is out of stock, click the blue refresh plus icon, and type "out of inventory" in the page monitor field. without quotations of course.
i made mine refresh every 5 seconds.
sit back and wait
enjoy !

I did the same thing but my text was set to Find on page "add to cart." Same result.
Mine detected "leaves warehouse" Lol
I had it doing the same thing as the OP. Managed to get a 64GB blue in my cart twice but, like many others, it disappeared while trying to actually check out. I even have my info saved so as to speed up the process.
I did the old fashion way, bought 3 and boy does my finger hurt. LOL
Tried the extension and it worked great.
I did the exact same thing the OP said. However, once notified, by the time I got to the page, it was out of stock. Happened several times. Don't know how you guys are doing it. I was on top of it as much as I could be.
Do I have to leave the page open at all times?
You do have to leave the page open but it doesn't have to be the browser tab in focus.
You were refreshing every 5 seconds. I was refreshing two times every 1 second and had the phone in my cart SEVEN times over the course of 4 hours and not once could I complete the purchase because "an error occurred". It stayed in my cart and I pressed checkout over and over until it kicked it out of my cart. I felt like shooting the screen with a double barrel shotgun.

Agreed. I had it show up in my cart twice. Made it to checkout and lost it both times sure to an unexpected error.
Before that, I had added it to my cart, but had it disappear no less than 5 times today, before ever getting to even attempt the checkout.

Same here. But I also had 3 second refresh heh
When you're dealing with something that sells out in less than 10 seconds, every second counts. For that reason I wouldn't rely on pushbullet, or any 3rd party service that probably adds more latency.
Also, if your at work, and work for a company that has multiple locations in the US, or around the world, everything you do online goes through a proxy, and in some cases, as in mine, is based out of another state. It's not the most ideal environment to buy a nexus 6. At work it takes me like 3-4 seconds for the Play Store page to refresh, or stop loading. At home it's almost instantaneous. Last week I tried to buy while at work, without ever seeing an add to cart button. This week I extended my lunch past 1:15PM EST. Sounds went off, clicked add to cart. clicked my address/cc. clicked submit/pay button. I'm sure a lot of it was just luck, but I know I wouldn't have had any luck if I tried at work w/ my crappy work network.
I was strictly looking at only the 64GB blue version and no luck. I feel like most people that were able to get one are talking about a 32GB version?

I was strictly looking for the 64GB Midnight Blue one as well. I think I just got extremely lucky in the second wave from yesterday. Kept seeing the "unexpected error" message. Then, after like 10 more clicks, it finally went through. It does seem like there are a lot more 32GB models than 64GB models. I hope you're able to order one soon.
I'm using an extension called Page Monitor. Does the same thing but you can actually use it to pick an HTML element to monitor a change and you can set it for less than 5secs and the page doesn't have to be open or have the focus on it. Check it out.
I've installed Auto refresh plus but after some hours it automatically stops checking. So I need to click on "stop" and "start" again.
Do you know why?
