Orange UK Pricing change? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Can someone point me in the right direction for the thread concerning the above and the ability to get out of the contract please. I have spent ages looking. I had it as a bookmark but have re-installed.
Thanks for your help.

i think...
Im sorry to say you might be too late, pretty sure that they reversed their chnges after loosing so many customers.
I bought an omnia hd in may ended up paying 2 months line rental. got the phone for 80 pounds.
i read ab9ut this on money saving experts i think

Really surprised by the contents of the first thread. O2 are doing the exact same thing, since June they have stopped their retention deals. There is no chance of getting their XDA range let alone a modern htc phone due to there iphone supply.
If orange are out, o2 are out, that leaves T-mobile (for now) and vodafone.

Well t-mobile and orange are merging so will have to see how that effects them.

Now my heads spinning and im really stressed out,,,,i chill out for a couple of hours and i for some reason i check the O2 Business Site and there it is for SALE i rubb my eyes in disbelief and i ring immediately and get my company to Buy it for me...

Well played.
Post pics when it arrives. Trying to decide whether it's worth selling my JasJar and getting an O2 Exec on contract.

So i'm confused. Do you have one in your hands, or is it 'on the way'?
Called the non-web based o2 Contract line (0870 5860860) 3 times yesterday and kept getting told to ring back. This morning I have been told that the date has been put back to Monday 3 October 2005.
What makes me think that any domestic stock has been redirected to the business side of things
Spoke To O2 Last Night on Normal Custoer Services and they say it is now available
Just rung the number shown above, 402 select, business o2 and all say 3rd October and not before.
What number did you try?
Just spoke to contract services, and no, its not available till 3rd, and its not on system. He did admit somebody had spotted it on the website but says he doubts that if they ordered it they will get it before anyone ordering next week and possibly will need to re-order.
Looks like we all need to wait.
Oh, and just to make sure I get it first, O2 said it was delayed by a month and for NONE OF YOU to call untill November ok?
I have just put the phone down from O2 Marketing Director. Sadly, the XDA Exec's were involved in a fatal accident and therefore will not be available until 1st December.
For more information ring O2 Mid October for an update.
LOL... just kidding
Got tired of all the major network providers mucking me & the rest of us about. My wife agreed to me finally buying a JasJar in Tottenham Court road today at Inkino Ltd. They really are a nice set of people and very professional. They certainly will get my recommendation!
Just charging my new toy  It's actually much more appealing to the eye than any photo I've seen of it. Well, there's undoubtedly nothing for me to report as you've all read the posts in this forum, but I will share solutions to problems encountered, as I come across them. Thanks to Xda developers, I feel well prepared and well informed. Thanks to all of you. & Thanks to my wife for putting up with my technoholic tendancies 8) Well she has ended up with my i-mate jam after all and is thoroughly loving it!
Im afraid if I spent that much on the JasJar my wife would go into premature labour (after killing me), so i have no choice but to wait for the major carriers.
I may end up getting two and selling one to these eager US people who cant get it as im due an upgrade for wifes tarif as well as taking out new one for me.
Looks like ill get one on o2 upgrade, then take out the T-mobile 100meg data tarif with the Universal as the phone.
Still at least a week to wait, but hell, if it was nokia it would be 6 months more, be obsolete when it was released and anyone that bought it would be ****** off at the fact 4 days later nokia release a better "i" version for less money.
The actual story of what happened with o2 (because I went through the same thing on Monday) is, according to the business Supervisor:
On Mon 26 Sep it was released by their I.T. department onto the business site by mistake.
Thousands of customers ordered it through the site and from the phone line who had taken this to mean it was available.
Once the mistake was realised, the person responsible in I.T. was fired and all orders stopped. Mine was in fact cancelled by them, without them telling me.
I was out and about today so decided to pop in to a few mobile phone shops and see what the story 'out on the street' was.
Vodafone
Never heard of the Universal or any of its derivatives.
O2
Got a new (October) catalogue out with the Exec listed at £150 on a 200 min contract. Expecting stock 'sometime this month'. Video calls on 3G will now be chargeable (to other networks) and data prices are now higher.
Orange
Had a dummy phone in store! Didn't know anything about availability or price though. In fact, had never seen it before.
So, there you go. Another week...
Some T-Mobile stores also have the dummy phone. It fits nicely in a front jeans pocket, and isn't as heavy as I expected! Also the keyboard is quite usable, even with my larger than average fingers!
And you know what they say about men with large fingers...
hey can u post the ext rom on ftp???

After finally holding one in my hand today I must admit how much smaller and better built it was than what I was expecting. All this fuss about it being too big - rubbish says I!
The o2.co.uk Website has moved the XDAi & XDAs to the end of the phones webpage leaving a nice little gap for the third in the current range on Monday???
XDA Exec Mobiles4everyone.com
Still no sign this am on O2 but Mobiles4everyone are offering Execs - whether or not for imediate delivery I don't yet know. Others are offering too. Cheers, Derek
That's great, and I like the pricing too.
But I can't find any of the other places you mention.
Let's try and get a list going here of:
* The best deals
* Those who have it in stock and offer quick delivery

Those Waiting From T-mobile...

2nd October.. T-mobile have updated their website, placed the MDA Vario II back on their website, Now that my mother says im allowed to have one, I rang to make sure they had some in stock, the person i was talking to, said there was quite a few ! Great !
Placed an order as soon as possible, with a bit of hitches during the order process using Firefox (did it in Internet Explorer in the end). Got my PAC Code from Orange (unfortunatly it has to come through the mail, delaying the process even more...)
Hopefulli i'll be a proud new owner of the MDA Vario II !!!! Can't wait.
Can anyone give me any useful links or tools? Any Pre-cautions?
Finally... I use a Series 60 Symbian (Nokia 7610), i want to backup all my messages and contacts and get them on the Pocket PC Somehow, Any ideas?
Yikes,
T-mob certinely know how to charge top whack?
Makes the VarioII V M3100 much more expensive on similar plans even ?
Maybe give it a week or two and see if the demand falls bringing down the prices hopefully..
LoL i hope your not trying to say im wasting my money...

No not realy, just dont want to find the price of the phone dropping off next week due to increased supply and maybe less demand, with the recent shortage of the Vario II over the past weeks T-mob maybe think the price can be 'hiked up'
Any ideas of the cost of the phone maybe a few weeks back on similar deals ?
I think the prices are about the same as they were in August. They introduced a £30 off the phone promotion during September, which now looks like it has finished.
The £5 of the plans, and 3 months free webnwalk started in September, and looks like it is continuing. Although the WebNwalk plans are revised, giving you less data (although it isn't supposed to be a hard limit).
Anyone know how T-mobile implement changes to their plans for existing contracts?
Example; if we took out webnwalk with 2gb data, and it is now advertised as 1Gb.
lol thanks killabeezz, i hope not either, but compared to Orange deals, their deals are almost double on contract and handset price (unless upgrading).
38h21543: Im sure you get to keep your contract, until it ends, in which case you'll need to pick one of the new contracts. So you still get to keep the 2gb data.

HTC Touch HD Coming Direct to O2 Sooner Than We Think?

Now just diverging to the rumours that O2 will be getting this themselves, I was very surprised to hear, when I wandered in to my local O2 shop, that they were expecting them in in December. Now I'm not going to hold my breath on this for too long, but if that is true I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks...

Touch HD directly from O2
Hi there - it's quite odd to see myself quoted here! (I'm PWJW in the above mentioned thread).
I should point out that the thread that this is from is about buying the phone from mobiles.co.uk (here > http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=9555&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=180), which is offering O2 deals. The first two comments may well be referring to availability through this route, or not, I am not sure myself, which is why I raised my point, hoping for some clarification.
I spoke to someone in an O2 shop, and they said that they were aware of the Orange exclusive, but thought it was only until the end of the month, and that they (O2) would be getting it in in early December. Now I took that with a big pinch of salt, because I usually know more about handsets and release dates (due to these great forums) than they do!
I was actually so shocked that I did not ask the obvious follow up questions like "Are you absolutely sure about that?!" and "Can I have it in writing?", but there you go. I might give them a call in the morning and see if there is any "news"...
Fingers crossed, as this would save me some hassles I could do without.
So much for the Orange exclusive!!!
O2's network sucks though, 3G coverage is the worst of the lot... Why would you want it on O2?

lol! Well I'm already there, that's why
I'm not averse to switching network, but O2 works in my home, which is also where I work, and therefore where I need to use my phone 99% of the time. I also have personal reasons for never going near Orange, so that leaves my options limited, though I have seen the HD available on Vodaphone, which is tempting > http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/n443/p3185.aspx
At the moment I am waiting to see one for real before making decision, but I know that I am only postponing the inevitable. At least if O2 get this themselves, then I can negotiate an upgrade from them - I'm on Simplicity at the moment, which I have to say is a cracking deal - £20pm, 600 mins + free bolt-on ("unlimited" web in my case).
Well, it's appeared on the Intranet in the past few days, Orange seem to think they've got the HD as an exclusive "...well into 2009!"...
its all a bit dodgy if you ask me, we know O2 Germany are running with the HD, we know Orange have some sort of exclusive deal but for how long remains at question, perhaps a get around for this would be the fact that Orange WOULD have exclusive rights to Touch HD, simply because 2 would make it there own so perhaps that might be the answer.
Ive heard that There is a XDA release in December but its not the HD, but as teh other Forums suggest it may well be headed O2 directs way.
All in all im somewhat confused, if anyone has any answers out there please feel free to enlighten us!
Its also worth noting that Both the XDA Ignito and Serra were registered names against there respected phones LONG before they actually released them, and since ive not heard a peep about a new XDA name its doubtful in my opinion that an XDA Touch HD will be here this side of new year.
Well I phoned a store in Hertfordshire, they said no idea. The girl searched on her system and came up with strange alternatives.
I phoned upgrades twice. First person said no idea. Second person gave me a lecture on how HTC phones are branded O2 XDAs. Yes.... Ok.

HTC HD on O2
Hi All,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I have got my HTC HD on O2. Completely unbranded and without any logos... Brilliant! The only website I found selling this on O2 last week was e2save!! all other websites have it on preorder on O2.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,

xda flint or something, big arse pda, specs look ok but nothing fancy apart from a large screen and a good sizes keyboard. more like a ultra mini laptop than a pda.

This is very tempting for me too. But are Vodafone good? as i'm a T-Mobile user and I am getting bored with them and their phone releases. But I fear that it I leave they will get the phone so I am waiting till the beginning of next year to see whats happens.

HTC HD2 - Pre-Order or Wait?

As the title says, What would you do? Pre-Order expecting stock to be non existant when actually released? or wait for o2 to give away their hand?
I am on o2 don't want to move to another service provider, definatly want the phone as soon as its out or as near as. My contract isn't due till july
I do have some cash that I can use to buy but not ideal (the gaffa will kill me).
Paying off my existing contract will be cheaper than buying the HD2 but then I won't be able to upgrade for 18months.
or buy the phone and in less than 9 months I can get another one and sell it.
I just don't know. Do I think about things too much? LOL
Either way I will have my HD for sale as soon as I get the HD2! Whats a fair price?
Personally I'd wait. There's always problems when a new thing comes out, whether it's not enough stock to go around (remember all the stuff with the HD from mobiles.co.uk this time last year?) or technical problems that need ironing out. It's usually best to let all the hooha die down and let everyone else put up with and solve all the issues
I know what you mean, I got my HD from mobiles.co.uk but didn't experience any problems, process was smooth and got the phone really quick.
Also just found the HD2 for £499 which is much cheaper than most other places. God its so hard not to click buy buy buy!!
Oh dear my finger slipped. Got it for £494.95 + Delivery.

MobileFun £499 with this Promotional Code "MFAWOCT9" Job Done!!!
Just a waiting game now!! I am so impulsive!! LOL
Thanks, might join the 'impulsive buyers union', although the seeming lack of a front camera on the HD2 is a potential stumbling block for me...
Cheers for the heads-up Richard.
I'm currently on a monthly SIM only contract with O2, and spoke to them yesterday about upgrading when they get the phone. I was strongly considering doing that, but I reckon I'll pay mobilefun a visit and then sell my HD to make back half the cost.
Nice - thanks
Edit: Ooooh - just noticed the release date of 11/11/09. O2 is looking appealing again!
Also on sim only with o2 at the moment - they seemingly don't let you upgrade until you've been on sim only for 6 months though for some reason, so I think if I want it before February (when I'll have been with them for 6 months) I will need to buy it, and stick on the cheap sim only deal.
Oh, and does anyone know when mobilefun charge your card - on order or on dispatch? Thanks!

I am a little dissapointed they give new hardware and take some other hardware away from us at the same time but I think they have realised that Video calling just hasn't taken off so they probably don't see the point of having a front camera.
I can count on 1 hand how many times I have used it since having a Diamond and my HD.
My girlfriend might see it differently as she uses the front camera as a mirror sometimes! lol

skank - ask them to put you through to cancellations and ask them the same question. Yesterday, the CS girl I spoke to told me exactly the same thing as you, but put me through to cancellations because I had a query about cancelling my contract and when it would take effect. The girl in cancellations checked and said that they can do 2 types of credit check. One of them means you can't upgrade within the first 6 months, but the other means you can upgrade whenever you want. She said since they'd done a full credit check on me when I joined, I could upgrade immediately, so I'll probably go for that IN 10 DAYS TIME!!!! when the phone is supposed to become available.
It sounded like the CS staff don't really have the full picture, but the cancellations staff know a bit more. They were really helpful.
Good luck!
Thanks John. I did go to cancellations when I called but the guy seemed a bit dopey. Might call back. He was saying it might depend on whether or not I was with o2 before I went sim only, which I wasn't.
Same here - I was with Orange until they did that whole price change blunder. I was one of the lucky ones who got out of the contract and immediately moved to a virgin sim only deal. The coverage was sooooooo bad that I moved to O2. I've only been with them a week and they were more than happy to upgrade me.
Maybe you're right - call back and cross your fingers that you get someone a bit more clued up. I really should have asked the girl I spoke to for her name as I expect the next person I speak to will say "No. Can't upgrade you." and I'll then be outside the 14 day cancellation period.
I just thought i'd post this up, a reply I just got from o2 regarding the HD2. Doesn't really bother me now I have pre-ordered but some of you may be interested.
Good afternoon Richard
Thanks for emailing us about your phone query. I understand that you're interested in buying an HTC HD2 and want to know when it'd be available with us. Let me quickly look into this matter.
Richard, you'll be excited to know that this fantastic phone will soon be available with us. However, I'm unable to comment on when this phone will be launched as it's due to be released in the future. As soon as its available with us, it'll be immediately updated on our website.
Cheers Richard.
The girl I spoke to said that O2 has a release date of 19/10/09, but it's not official yet, as they're still "going through checks". That date can be put back. Basically, they'll put it on the website as soon as they have a definite and confirmed release date.
Need now to figure out how to sleep for a week and a half without starving or getting sacked, just to make the day come quicker! lol
Just called o2 and they said definitely no upgrade before 6 months, for anyone. You might want to call and check john!
I know you can't get a PAC and use it on the same network, but is it possible to go from o2 simplicity - orange PAYG - o2 contract with HD2?
Surely it is...

Well I hope to have more luck than you're having. The girl I spoke to said I didn't even need to go via the PAYG route to keep my number. I was considering a 14 day cancellation, then an O2 PAYG, then an O2 contract.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see. If I get anyone helpful again, I'll make sure to get their name (and possibly number), and pass it on to you.

Phones4u JUMP Contract Availability

Assuming I'm not the only one in the country that uses XDA awaiting the HTC One to become available on JUMP contracts, I thought I'd start this thread to provide updates on the situation.
So far I have contracted several stores and JUMP themselves and at present they don't have any information.
I'll update as and when things change - if anyone with info can do the same thing!

I've never even heard of JUMP contracts so I did some checking out via Google. This looks like a great idea but I have a couple of questions for you please, sorry to hijack the thread (but it does bump it up again).
1) When you jump, does it reset the contract period back to the initial duration?
2) I take it the monthly price will be higher than a regular contract; is it much higher? As expected, the video focuses solely on the pros, rather than the cons of this type of contract.
The reason I am asking is that I am going into Phones4U today and this might be a good thing for me to get if it isn't laughably expensive. Thanks, and sorry again for the hijack.

Hey. No worries man. Not many people have to be honest!
1) This is something I need to check fully myself. Your contract with Vodafone for example stays the same and the handset one is reset to 24 months. Because they're separate contracts though, I'm not sure if the handset contract continues even after your service provider contract ends. I think it does. This is something I foolishly neglected to ask when I took it out! Sorry I can't be much help there.
2) Yes it is. You do have to pay a premium for the privilege unfortunately. It will cost more and the mins, texts and data won't be as good as you'd get without JUMP but for me it was a small trade off personally.
Note that your contract cost will go up every time you upgrade after 6 months. Unless, like me, you're able to pay towards the overall cost when you upgrade in order to bring it down. I'm going to put in around £100 to keep the bump to a minimum in monthly costs.
It's a good contract if you change phones every 6 months and don't mind the slight premium.
Also if you're wanting the HTC One on JUMP you won't have much luck right now as it isn't available and they don't know when it will be (some to them 20 mins ago). My patience is waning, getting restless now!
Perhaps it'll be available once the black version is released end of the month, though it's anyone's guess right now. Phones4u HQ don't even know apparently!
Hope this helps, sorry it isn't certain, but I'm only 6 months in myself so this will be by first experience of upgrading through JUMP.

Sorry I can't be much help there.

this JUMP thing sounds quite a lot like this sort of deal I just came across from staples, Literally just posted this up here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39431727&postcount=17
You pay a fair bit more but get some bonus's for the cost, ie being able to change your phone whenever....

That's interesting! Didn't know staples did things like this. NY contract is about £48 based on getting a free Note II when it was released.
Interesting concept though, thought only the US got deals like this.

I suppose if more companies offered the service the prices would drop as well. It's definitely interesting idea for sure....Maybe a little out of my budget at present though.
