Phones4u JUMP Contract Availability - One (M7) General

Assuming I'm not the only one in the country that uses XDA awaiting the HTC One to become available on JUMP contracts, I thought I'd start this thread to provide updates on the situation.
So far I have contracted several stores and JUMP themselves and at present they don't have any information.
I'll update as and when things change - if anyone with info can do the same thing!

I've never even heard of JUMP contracts so I did some checking out via Google. This looks like a great idea but I have a couple of questions for you please, sorry to hijack the thread (but it does bump it up again).
1) When you jump, does it reset the contract period back to the initial duration?
2) I take it the monthly price will be higher than a regular contract; is it much higher? As expected, the video focuses solely on the pros, rather than the cons of this type of contract.
The reason I am asking is that I am going into Phones4U today and this might be a good thing for me to get if it isn't laughably expensive. Thanks, and sorry again for the hijack.

Hey. No worries man. Not many people have to be honest!
1) This is something I need to check fully myself. Your contract with Vodafone for example stays the same and the handset one is reset to 24 months. Because they're separate contracts though, I'm not sure if the handset contract continues even after your service provider contract ends. I think it does. This is something I foolishly neglected to ask when I took it out! Sorry I can't be much help there.
2) Yes it is. You do have to pay a premium for the privilege unfortunately. It will cost more and the mins, texts and data won't be as good as you'd get without JUMP but for me it was a small trade off personally.
Note that your contract cost will go up every time you upgrade after 6 months. Unless, like me, you're able to pay towards the overall cost when you upgrade in order to bring it down. I'm going to put in around £100 to keep the bump to a minimum in monthly costs.
It's a good contract if you change phones every 6 months and don't mind the slight premium.
Also if you're wanting the HTC One on JUMP you won't have much luck right now as it isn't available and they don't know when it will be (some to them 20 mins ago). My patience is waning, getting restless now!
Perhaps it'll be available once the black version is released end of the month, though it's anyone's guess right now. Phones4u HQ don't even know apparently!
Hope this helps, sorry it isn't certain, but I'm only 6 months in myself so this will be by first experience of upgrading through JUMP.

this JUMP thing sounds quite a lot like this sort of deal I just came across from staples, Literally just posted this up here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39431727&postcount=17
You pay a fair bit more but get some bonus's for the cost, ie being able to change your phone whenever....

That's interesting! Didn't know staples did things like this. NY contract is about £48 based on getting a free Note II when it was released.
Interesting concept though, thought only the US got deals like this.

I suppose if more companies offered the service the prices would drop as well. It's definitely interesting idea for sure....Maybe a little out of my budget at present though.

How to get upgrades still inside of your contract, and not available for upgrade...

I've been doing this same process for about 2-3 years now, and thought I would share. Basically, I'll buy the latest and greatest phone for Tmobile, and almost after a year (usually sooner), I'll call customer service, tell them I'm not happy with the phone, or bored, or really like a new one coming out, etc, and ask them politely if there is anything they can do since I'm not eligible for an upgrade and still inside contract.
Every time I've done this, they have always said, sure, you've been with us for a long time now, and they just replace my existing contract with a brand new one, and give me the upgrade price. I'll end up selling my old phone for the price of the upgrade, so basically I get a new phone each year and don't have to spend one dime. Well, I just called and did the same thing, and they are going to sell me the LG G2X for 260 w/ tax, and I just sold my Vibrant on Craig's list for 260. Should get my new phone Thursday.
I've loved my Vibrant, and had no issues really with it, (minus some weird gps issues every once in a while), but I'm a gadget geek, so I always gotta have the latest and greatest. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone in the Vibrant community, (dev's too), as my Vibrant experience has been great. I'll miss that beautiful screen, but I think I won't even notice with the raw power of the GX2. Anyway, just thought I'd share my story, since I had no clue tmobile would even do this for you. I just called up randomly one day and asked to see what they would say. Tmobile has always done everything they can to keep me as a customer.
I thought this was known? They just add +2 years to your contract

No, the difference is, they basically tear up your old contract, and replace it with a brand new one. ie... if you had say 1.5 years on your contract, and they let you upgrade, your 1.5 year contract would be gone, and you would have a 2 year contract only starting today. So, I should technically have a 3.5 year contract, but only have a 2 year contract.

Please let us know how the GPS is on the G2X. I'm also seriously considering an upgrade, but I've been reading mixed reviews on the G2X GPS, so am waiting for more user reports. (Don't mean this in any way to detract from your decision. I really hope the G2X has a perfect GPS.)
Thanks.
I can understand the "stick it to the man" type attitude, but what a prickish way to go about and purposely do this.
Buy the phone outright if you want new phones all the time. You end up spending about the same in a years time frame. (At least with TMO).
AT&T... well they don't have a "non-contract" rate that's cheaper. I'd have a less irritated opinion then.
So does this work for someone with t-mobile for 6 or 8 months? I would guess not.

If tmobile is willing to do it, and the OP isn't deceiving them, why is it wrong?
thanks will try soon
I've never been deceptive with them. my gps has always wondered and taken a while to lock, even with the fix. I simply told them I wasn't happy with the gps, and wanted to upgrade. The time before that, I said I was tired if my phone. They said they wanted me to be happy and no problem.

So, if I call them up and say
"I'm not satisfied with my phone, the problems with my phone (I have had 2 replacements so far, GPS problems everytime), and Samsung not supporting the phone, is there ANY way you guys can help me and give me an early upgrade?"
And if the rep is nice enough, he will allow an early upgrade?
Exactly. Be honest with them, and of course polite. They still make money off upgrades, so not like they are losing money. The worst they can day is no.

My brother has had the phone now for a day and I've been tinkering with it since he's new to android. GPS works 100%, absolutely fantastic. Using GPS Test I got 12 satellites within 3 seconds and 12/12 locked and all the gps readings are litterally off the charts with 200+ readings. Accuracy is consistent @ 3-10 ft accuracy - mostly at 5ft accuracy. Hope this helps anyone that has doubts on the GPS on G2X because it is NOT a problem .
Didnt know this was anything special. This is all cool if you dont plan changing companies because if you do leave with you new phones im pretty sure theres a etf. Why would any company care what phone you get, your still locked into a 2year agreement. After 1month-or a year, when you get another phone, your still locked into a 2year agreement. Im pretty sure Tmo and Sprint will do anything possible to satisfy there custumers.

Motorola's "Trade Up" Details

I'm sure some of you guys have gotten the email from Moto about the so called "trade-up" program. I got an email a couple of days ago but just ignored it since it just ticked me off even more once I read the details. It was already a slap in face with the insulting $100 but then they took it a step further and put so many restrictions on how it can be spent that it is basically useless. I'm sure that was their intent since they do not want to loose money on a product they no longer choose to support.
I know there is always a sucker out there for every deal but I wonder how many people will actually "trade up".
Android Authority wrote up a pretty good article about it. http://www.androidauthority.com/motorola-jelly-bean-cash-problems-131218/

I just checked out the official website at http://www.mototradeup.com. There's exactly one phone us Atrix owners on AT&T can trade up to: the Atrix HD, which costs $449 out-of-contract and no doubt has a bootloader so locked down as to make Fort Knox jealous.
No thanks.
I received my email several weeks ago, ut served to make me laugh for a few minutes. It is absolutely worthless to me, my 2 year contract ends in September 2013.
I have no desire to spend $100+ on a 10 month old phone (10 months by Sept 2013) that will likely not get any updates after i buy it.
They didn't even try to think this 'appeasement' out. It was as half-a**ed as their support of our phones is.

I never even got an email I still love the phone, but I can't say the same about the company....
I got the email a week or so ago... It's not too shabby a deal if someone wanted the Atrix HD. @ the time I got the email, AT&T had it for $49.99 w/ 2 yr contract, so you'd pocket $50 from the trade-up. I'm not going to take them up on it because I already got a gs3 to replace the Atrix. Just saying, it's not a bad deal if you're tired of waiting for something to be done w/ the Atrix.
Actually it kinda is a bad deal. You can sell the Atrix on craigslist or similar for considerably more than $100 and still get the Atrix HD with the $49.99 contract.
They will send you a Visa Prepaid Card. They received my device and send me this email.

The visa card is what I get offered as well (AT&T), the terms of which state this:
Motorola Visa Prepaid Card is issued by MetaBankTM, Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. Cards are issued in connection with a loyalty, award or promotion program. Card does not have cash access and can be used at any merchants that accept Visa debit cards. Card valid for up to 12 months, funds do not expire and may be available after card expiration date, subject to applicable law. Country restrictions apply and are subject to change. Card terms, conditions, and limitations apply; monthly card account management and post-expiration re-issuance fees may apply, see MyPrepaidCenter.com/site/visa-univ for details.

Its still not a great deal, particularly since they only offer the Atrix HD for us AT&T folks, but not quite as bad as people seem to be saying.
Although, the Atrix HD isn't all that bad, roughly on par with the HTC One X.
The only way I'll be buying Motorola again is if they get the contract to build the next Nexus.
Will get my $0.96 Samsung gs3 tomorrow from Sams club. Thanks to all the devs! I appreciate all you did for the
Atrix.

I have my own tradeup program. I'll let them keep their $100 and in return motorola will be out of my life forever. Aside from the original Atrix I haven't been impressed with any of their phones in the last two years. Atrix HD has a bezel as big as my coffee table and the only way you'll ever get key lime pie on it is if you take it to Denny's during drunk hour. From now on I'm only buying supported devices like Nexus, Iphone, or popular dev phones like S3 or HTC Desire.
Hello fellow atrix owners. I understand the need to have the newer version of android as I understand your dissatisfaction with Motorola. But I don't understand why should any of us accept this "offer"they give us... we have very stable and fast gingerbread roms that make me forget there is a newer version. Thanks for our great devs. The only disadvantage is that there might be apps that we can't download because we run an older version but I never even considered that until a member posted about it. I love my atrix and I'm not crying for not having ICS, JB. all I need is a stable custom ROM!!

Will the Second Batch of Nexus 4's Be Sold Out as Fast as the First Batch?

Will the second batch of Nexus 4's sell out as quickly as the first batch did? I know we still have 2-3 weeks to wait until the second batch comes.
I very much doubt it. They got their "wow! nexus is so great it sold out in 20 minutes!!" PR. The next batch I bet will fulfil.

Oh well I hope . I'm planning on getting one in early December.
The way it sounds it seems like the majority of the second batch are gonna be used to fulfill the massive amount of back-orders that are pilling.
I hate how it's going to take 2-3 weeks because that means I have to continue using my G1. I wish it was 1 per customer because I'm seeing a trend of people who have purchased nexuses. Hopefully I'll be able to get one before that through T-Mobile...

This is just my guess, but with doing this online order starting at a certain time BS with the iPhone for years, yes, it will sell out fast. Or at least crash their site again, because what will happen is word will spread like wild fire on these sites and everyone will rush in to get one from round two. So in three weeks or so when Google opens ordering again, we'll see these same " damn, I couldn't get it ordered again" threads.
I sure hope I'm wrong and the next time things open up, we'll all get one....

I went up to T-Mobile today to ask them about it. The manager told me if you order one from their website you should have it by November 22nd. I wasn't planning on using my upgrade for it since it is so cheap off contract but now I am considering canceling my order (since I'm one of the back ordered people) and ordering one through T-Mobile for $150 cheaper...
to be honest I doubt next batch will sell out so fast.
People that didnt buy it the first time will either:
1. find alternative phone (here in UK you have nokia 920 with charging pad and some kind of headphones for £400 on PAYG)
2. will buy from phone carrier (for a bit extra)
This is people mentality, if something is popular or drives demand it will sell out straight away, those who didnt get it will do anything and everything to obtain it. Even if it means they have to pay extra premium on top of the retail price,
Both of those above factors will ease the demand for the phone, so I'm hoping I'll be able to order it in couple of weeks.
I bet they will be gone just as quick again. Will be January when stock is healthy.
But why the 3 week delay ? Did the Galaxy Nexus stock dry up completely last year, for a period of time ?

how long would it take to make a single phone seeing as they would have everything in the factory set-up to go.
My real worry would be if they have to go back one step and source all the parts first ,then it could be a long wait.If the factory is in full swing they must be able to make a few thousand a day surely
I would hope they could fill the back orders faster than the 3 weeks and then be on there way for new orders. Its not like they are making this from scratch the systems must be in place
anyway time will tell i suppose

That's what I'm saying but who knows how they really operate. I remember when the Wii first came out years back, it was years before you'd actually see one not sold in a store. More recently, when iPhone 4 was launched I stood inline at best buy at 4am, I did some recon the day before and a BB sales rep (at my local store) told me they only had 5 phones. I got one but its mind boggling when stores get so few of such a hot item. The N4 isn't really the same since they sold 1000's with in minutes but I hope they don't restock like apple and others do.

Yes, the second batch is supposed to be available in 2-3 weeks.
This is what I think will happen with the availability of the Nexus 4 after reading all of the posts:
Google will make sure to have MILLIONS of N4's in stock so they don't sell out again. Also, all the hype surrounding the Nexus 4 will die down. It's like that for every device. For example, whenever Crapple releases a new iCrap, they sell out very fast. After the initial excitement, the iCrap is much easier to get in the 2nd and 3rd batches. I think it will be similar but not exactly the same with the Nexus 4. Because of how many people were ordering N4's from the Play Store, the Play Store server crashed so many people who should be receiving first-batch Nexus 4's will not be getting it. The second batch of N4's is supposed to hit in around 2-3 weeks. While there will still be many people who will buy the device, there definitely won't be as many people as there were with the first batch. This is good for people who haven't bought their Nexus 4's yet. Google might also use some of the second batch to fulfill some of the pre-orders on the Nexus 4's that didn't go through. All in all, expect to be able to buy a Google Nexus 4 when it is available again.
Anyone else wondering what the numbers were for Google's initial stock were? I mean are we talking ten thousands, hundreds of thousands, or more?

The only reason to do this is keeping up with the smiths. EE have stated their 4g network will be round 10-15mb/s. The same as I get now on 3.
The world is full of people getting phones and 2 months in they feel they are missing out, due to blogs & engadget, etc who are paid to make you feel this.
You only really need to update every other model.
Start thinking rationally on this,NOT how those who are paid to make you feel.
From box 13......
Totally agree.
I went from galaxy s 1 to galaxy s3, galaxy s2 just wasn't worthy at the time. Nor is the note 2 ill be hanging out for the note 3.

Im on 3. You get 10 to 15mbps? Never heard of their network giving those speeds! You must be on top of a mast! Best i have ever gotten is 9mbps.

Stateside here, phones are subsidized by the carriers which means the monthly bill is higher. When i was with sprint ild get a new phone every year amd could sell my "old" phone, the one year old one for more than the $200usd sprint was asking. I think this really what drives the phone markets.
Lucky for me i got off the phone treadmill, sold my S2 and bought a note for only about $150 difference. No more $90 monthly bills. I spend about $10 on prepaid a month and use voip for most of my talking.

Id never buy a contract phone. I wait 6months then trawl amazon....

Its a conspiracy. The phone manufacturers only release a new phone to make us buy it. Someone call the press how could they not have noticed!
Sarcasm aside what really is the point your getting at? Do you actually want to start a movement of people no buying new phones every year? What's wrong with wanting the newest handset every year? If you can afford it then why not. Or is your point that you feel the media is playing you and manipulating you into wanting a new phone and you feel this is somehow unjust?
I was going to edit this and delete most of it but decided to leave it and just say after reading your post a few more times and reading my own I think mine sounds like I am being a real ass to you. Didn't mean it to be. Was meant to sound more playful than it does. Sorry if its not.

Right. I'm hoping, since sprint supposedly is the only carrier that currently has signed up for VR and Note 4, that they do some sort of deal on the two for early adopters.
Can't wait for this. My s3 needs to be retired

I suspect we won't see any notifications till October. My guess, the phone will probably release around mid-October and they'll start preorders about two weeks prior to release. The good news is that since Samsung has a page on the variant and a model number, It probably going through the FCC review, if not already, and supports an October release.
As the VR headset, I'm not sold on it. I think it'll be interesting device, but I think it'll be very limited in support. I just can't see it having a large enough install base to make it popular for a lot developers to devote time to develop or modify applications for it. And the $200US price tag seems high for a device that may so limited. It's only usable, as we know thus far, just on the phone. No external power source, so just your phone's battery. No way to use with your PC for those games. In fact, there was an article I read that showed that getting an Octulus for the PC was cheaper than the Note 4 and VR. If they throw it in free, I'll get one. If it was $50 or less, most likely, over $100, not likely.
Plus, I wonder how the VR works. I have issues--lazy eye and colorblindness--so I have no idea if it'll work for me. The new 3D technology does not work at all for me. I have 3D TV and Playstation3, and got the active 3D glasses to check out. The 3D did not work at all. I only saw a lower resolution picture since the 3D tech uses one's cross reference between the two eyes to create the depth perception. I use one eye significant more over the other. There's a reason why I've taken a few baseballs to the throat; yes it hurt. So, on the top of the support, you can understand my skepticism for my own potential experience with it.
I'm actually more curious about the S Gear in regards to the US or Sprint. I think that may be more a more useful device. I would have preferred it to run Android, or Android Wear. I like the hardware it's bringing, and hope it'll bring manufactures to do similar. My other concerns with it, will it work with devices that do not have TouchWiz? What about the glass? Is it crystal like a good watch, or some kind of gorilla glass. Watches tend to get scratched if they're any kind of glass. If they have some kind of bundle where they offer the Gear S on the cheap side, say about $100, I would probably go with something like that.
Ah, it's exciting times for new toy(s).

It'll probably work for you since the device shows both eyes live feed (no shutter/no anaglyph). Also there are a bunch of programs that allow you stream PC games to the phone. They are not samsung supported/designed products but they do work (TriDef3D for example, there are also a bunch of android games that support the splitview 3D) I currently have a note 2 and built a custom "google cardboard" vr headset and it works great but the resolution is not so great. So, at least for me, I am accustomed to this type of headset and enjoy it quite a bit for games like Skyrim. In short, you can do everything with an android phone (any of them) that you can do with the Oculus, as there is software and hardware (DIY for most, but we have Galaxy VR now) that supports it.
Also, all US variants of the Note 4 have passed FCC as of a few days ago.

that is excellent news. I hadn't heard Verizon and a couple other hadn't going through yet, but ATT and Sprint had.
And if what you say is true about the VR and my vision, that would be excellent. There's nothing like handing over the 3D glasses to my mother and asking, "is this working? Do you see a 3D picture" And her response, "yes, and it's so cool. wow look at the sky.." it should be noted, this has been the case with most 3D stuff such as 3D rides. The old 3D tech with the blue and red paper glasses worked a little bit, but I've never had that in your face image coming out of the screen. The sad part, if it actually works and does so well, I would probably buy just because of that fact.
Im eligible to upgrade now with Sprint but Should i get in on preorder list or wait until black friday to order the phone with deep discount price? decision decision..

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm just going on what I've observed in the past. I've never noticed any savings during holiday season/black friday on phones (maybe the lower end / not as popular ones to get more subscriptions) but the newly released high-end phones usually don't get discounts (the year old Note 3 probably will get a liquidation price). I thought that's why manufacturers released phones around this time of the year is because people "have money" or are willing to spend less frugally than other times in the year, meaning full price on the phone. If you're buying the phone without subscription discount (~$800), the full price/non-contract phone might be discounted during the holidays.

If you want to wait, why not wait. What's the worst that will happen? You won't get the phone on release day?

A quick search showed that a number of popular phones were discounted during Black Friday the past 2 years.

bootloader unlock
I'm a Verizon customer and want to jump ship. Sprint note 4 should have an unlocked bootloader if history repeats itself. Any long time Sprint customers want to fil me in on some pointers? Which plan is the best? Throttling on certain plans? Etc. Etc. I do have Sprint lte in my area soooo I'm very tempted.

If you're looking for an individual plan then sprint is going to be offering a $60 unlimited everything plan with a note 4 purchase.

Isn't that one throttled (optimized)? I think the Framily isn't. On Verizon I can swap my SIM around into any phone with no issues at any time. Can you do that with Sprint too?

I don't believe it is throttled. The framily plan doesn't exist anymore. The new family plans are called family share pack and they have a bucket of 20gb that you share so not unlimited.
The quickest way to swap phones on sprint is by logging into your account and entering the imei of the new phone. Takes just a minute or two but not as simple as swapping sims.

I just actually read in the fine print that the bandwidth is optimized. There are still Framily plans they just aren't advertised. Thanks for the SIM swap info that helps cause a person at Sprint said I needed to come in the Swype.
