wow!
this is really impressive. I had a friend who had seisures.
Nice work.

This is amazing... it was the time for this type of app.
Please go further with this type of stuff..

First tests with first aid personsal (friends) today
Hi dally,
after some tests with persons who now the moving part is on an epi moment we had have ony 3 alarms of 10. So i think is something with the advanced settings.
The next point is when we go the settings then bluetooth will be activated (see screenshot). But the phone has an internal gps receiver. Is this something what is missing in the moment? Or it is about the beta? The setting is com4 or com7. I am not shure what the internal port is on a TP2.
The desk is very clear and esay to use. What is with the worldwide logo in the main screen or something else, i think this will be good not only black in not activated status. Some public will be good for the app ;-).
You have created a very good program. I hope you can help me with the settings in advanced mode, because the acceleration settings (alarm = movement * threshold).

Hi dally,
no action since september last year. You are allways online and in development of this tool? I have asked more then once for support, also on the commercial main site. But no one gives me an answer....

This is (was?) an international project and UK side is silent since over year. I also don't know whats going on. But if you have problems with current version you can ask me, maybe i could help.

OK dally, i will do that. I have to re-install epdetect and ask my collegs that we do our tests again, so as written in one of my posts above.
I have asked because this app has so many possibillities to help people that i will push this app in my range...
In my free time i working for hospital and help needed persons security (cam's and other things). My day job i am writing software for the industrial automation control. Many, many work but it is worth. Because that i am very busy with rcolonel's webcam application. Some guys have seen this app on my phone while i was busy with my work there. And now everyone will have it. Small fast and it is working. The other tool webcamXP is to big and to slow for me. Your app.. i know so many people who need this..
Thank you for your response...

For those interested: Android version is available. See this post.

CellTracker Alternative

I don't know where else to post this....I found this while looking for an alternative to the SPV Developers CellTracker app. It's an app called NiceTrack...the screenshots tell the rest of the story:
http://www.nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp
Background info: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=1
Screenshots: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=2
Download: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=3 (Version 1.2)
The source code for that app can also be downloaded from the Background Info link.
The SPV Developers CellTracker app (Beta version only, hasn't been updated since December) for PocketPCs is located at the way bottom of the page:
http://www.thelogster.34sp.com/celltracker/
NiceTrack updates the tower changes in real-time whereas CellTracker does not. NiceTrack also shows the dbm signal strength on a cool chart and it also includes a logging function that allows you to rename the cells your phone has connected to while the app is active.
Signal strength chart: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/images/nicetrack/main-page.gif
Here are a couple hints based on my experience so far:
1) In order to fully save the renamed/logged cell sites, you must first tap Save next to where you renamed the cell site. Then you must also tap Options/Menu --> Save (extreme lower left) to save all changes since the app was launched.
2) Use Menu --> Exit to completely close the app.
I have tested this for use on my MDA II w/Windows Mobile 2003. I don't know if the app is compatible with WM5 PPCs or regular Windows Mobile smartphones.
Enjoy
Thanks for posting.
This software has been discussed before, and it is great:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3347&highlight=nicetrack
However, I believe people are having difficulty converting it to WM5 (when I last checked). But great stuff either way.

Hi there,
Sharpstuff (NiceTrack author) here..
I've just bought a T-Mobile MDA Vario and have managed to get it working on that ( WM2005 )
The problem was that in the older phones the GSM modem was on COM2 and on my Vario it's now COM9. I've made the Com port configurable now, but it's still not 100%.
You can download it from my site www.nicecuppa.net
Let me know how y'all get on.
Cheers

Sharpstuff, you have an excellent app here. I had to search for a bit to find it but in the end, I'm quite glad to have it . I also like the pun you have for your site...it's quite distinctive since even as a German-American, I know when someone says "cuppa", they normally mean the cup of tea .
Keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to develop such a great and invaluable app .
oooh.. *bookmark*
Do you have a regular Donate button somewhere? I see the shop, but I'd rather just get X amount straight to you, and not have to be awoken by some crazy delivery guy at 8am for a mug
Thanks for the kind thought...
But, I enjoy doing this stuff, so just click my google ads and I'm happy!
;-)
Got this to work on my 8125, almost... Clicking on 'add' under events causes it to crash with the following error:
NiceTrack.exe
NullReferenceException
Application::Run+0xf
MainForm::Main+0xa
....bummer - so close!
You need to select an event type eg. "Flash backlight" then click "add"..
Needs some validation there.. Plus, the events side of things isn't very useful at the moment, I need to implement some more event types.
Cheers
I installed it on my qtek9100 but it doesn't find a GSM-modem at all.
Also a Qtek9100, EN - found it on COM9 just fine
What would be really neat would be an event "Show Picture". That way it would be easy to make a make-shift map tracking thing. Simply grab a picture of the map off the internet, plunge a big dot on the map where you got the cell, save as image, and have that image displayed when entering that cell %) GIF files on the storage card, shouldn't take up too much space
Alternatively a full-fledged mapping thing could be developed, but that's a lot more work *nod*
@sharpstuff hey I installed it on my XDA EXEC, but when it scans for com and reaches com9 it just freezes...any ideas?
Hi there,
I'm having some problems with the detection code, and general functionality on WM5.
I am looking into it and will post a new version up ASAP, sorry for the problems..
stop being sorry and add that donate button *keeps clicking google ads once a day but hopes google won't start ignoring his IP address for excessive clicking...*

So is Release 1.3b a partial fix for WM5 users? I installed it on my MDA II and it detects my modem on COM2 without any problems. Both 1.2 and 1.3 seem to work on WM2003 PPCs.

Yep, it's an intermediate release. Basically, it reminds the user on startup to set the Com port in settings
I'm working on v1.4 at present, this has more error checking on the GSM code, and multi-threaded com port detection so the whole app doesn't hang
For what it's worth - it seems to randomly lock up on me - requires an 'end task'. Sometimes when this happens, and I try to fire it back up again, I just get an empty message box dialog; no title, just the close button.

I get that messagebox at random even after I closed the app and its not in the list of running programs. Strange...

noob needs some help (long... yawn)

I am sorry that the title is so general but I really do need lots of help with my wizard and don't know where to start.
I have had the thing since xmas and have not used it for a single day ! it was an impulse buy and probably a mistake. I realise that now but I'm stuck with a 12 month contract so might as well try and use it.
I work a 12 hour day and simply do not have the time to experiment and play with it. I need someone who has considerable experience with the o2 mini s and is able to explain how to set it up properly and use it effectively and has both the ability and patience to explain it to me. I am happy to pay for this as I see it like any other service which we pay for. I do not expect help for nothing.
Is there anyone prepared to help me with this ?
first I would like to know how I can change and improve my desktop.
second I would like to know how I install TomTom
thanks

Long yawn answered with enthusiasm
Firstly I have an xdaII + 2i and i'm pretty good with pc's, but there are some glaring holes in my knowledge.
My brother has the phone you have, and on his I have installed ttn5 and stripped the rom back so that the phone works much faster.
There's an awful lot of reading for you to do, so seen as i can prob not help much on this forum i'd be glad to help customise and suggest tools and s/w for your ppc up for you so that you'll find it at least fun and maybe use it.
I am currently on my 4th iteration of a Pocket PC phone. I started out way back with an Ipaq 3650 with a softphone, migrated to the 1st T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone (Wallaby, XDA, ect.), spent a year with the Ipaq H6315, and have now been using the new T-Mobile MDA USA (Wizard).
When I had the original XDA (Wallaby), got lured into the "Fix it 'til it breaks" addiction by this site. The "ROM Kitchen" was just too inticing to resist. That first generation platform in its factory state left much to be desired and the enhancements created by this forum and it's members greatly improved the user expierience of those devices.
Now that I have skipped the XDA II, III, and IV devices and all of the jargin associated with these newer generations of this platform and are now using the Wizard, I find myself relegated back to "Noowbie" status with regard to my knowledge of how, when, & why to upgrade my new device.
The usefulness of this forum and the many contributions of its members have contributed to the dificulty in extracting the information one may be looking for. There is simply so much information here to sift through.
I too find it hard to find the time required to assimilate all of the data here.
My device is in it's stock configuration with the exception that I have run the Lockwiz unlocking program. Until I can get my head around what these varius other rom images will do for me, I am going to use the device as it is now, which is a quantum leap in usability compared to the other devices I have been using for the past 4 years.
It probably already exists, ( although burried in countless 30 page threads) but perhaps a sticky Noowbie section that will help us that are time challanged so that we can someday increase our usefulness to this forum.
A problem with your question about your desktop is there is more than one answer.
My answer is to use:
*Wisbar Advanced
--Close apps (you can define exceptions)
--Define a top bar theme
--Define top bar buttons and multiple actions for each
--Show running task icons on top bar
*Wisbar Advanced Desktop plugin
--Define multiple "virtual" taoday screens
--Place shortcuts, buttons and even links to place a phone call on any desktop
--More themes
--Pin items that can be available on all virtual pages
*Pocket Breeze
--A great way to see all PIM items (calendar, task, etc).
--Allows other today plugins to be used in tabs
*Pocket Weather as a tab in Pocket Breeze
*Pocket Alarm
--This does lots of things in addition to phone profiles and includes a today plugin
*SPB Backup and its today plugin
*The SearchToday plugin borrowed from the Treo 700
There is just so much you can do and it has taken quite a while to evolve to this for me. And sometimes I change it
To get the most out of it, you will just need to budget some time.
Wow thanks for the replies everyone.
Phoneguy glad to see that I am not the only one with insufficient time to assimilate all this new technology. So much & so little time ...
Thank you for your offers of help. Perhaps I should make a list of what I would like to do with the mini s and start from there. I'll do that tonight. Perhaps any readers would make some suggestions as to what I can do to make the ppc a more friendly interface

Where is the Best Place to Find a list of APPS

Where are the places people are going to find lists of Free Apps.
I am new to the Pocket PC world, I have seen a few posts with people showing new apps, but I would like to be able to browse around and find some that are suited for what I use my phone for.
Looking for Time Wasters. (games)
Media Players (for Divx, and Compressed Videos)
Anything Automotive Related
Skins for changing appearance of the phone
pm me man ill help you!!!
there should really be a sticky in this forum with links to good download sites for games / apps.
Maybe we should start a thread and post links and ask a mod to sticky it. Anyone up for the job ?
RTFW
There is a big list of software in the WiKi
On A Silver Platter
It doesn't get any better than this :
1) This site is 8525 specific FREEWARE
2) These are links from bypaul.com:
A. GAMES
B. THEMES & SKINS
C. UTILITIES
3) Another FREEWARE site
4) More FREEWARE
5) This page has all the FREE applications iliumsoft offers (7 Pocket PC, 1 Desktop)
6) Yet another FREEWARE site
7) This is the Pocket PC section of this site, but you can navigate to other platform specific applications by clicking on the "Freeware" link at the top of the page. The entire site is strictly FREEWARE
8) This is a mobile/WAP SITE. It is completely formatted for a handheld web browser (small text, aligned left)
9) This is the last direct LINK to a freeware site i have mustered. I've just come across it for the first time and the server seems to be acting up so i can't speak for its reliability. It did work though
10) THIS is a search result from handango. All i did was select the 8525 as my device and "Sort by: Price:Low-High". The first 15 pages of this result gives you full applications with a $0.00 price tag. You may have to navigate a bit through the pages to find anything useful, but there are some pretty good apps in there. I would suggest going through the whole 15 pages so you don't miss anything.
11) This page is pocketpcmag.com's "BEST SITES" for WM PPCs. Scroll down to the "Downloads" section and you will find 46 links, many of them links to freeware sites. Even some of the links that don't say "(freeware)" have links to other Freeware sites on thier pages so you might wanna check them out too
12) Another LIST of PPC related sites with relevant Freeware site links
I've used just about all of these sites before with the exception of the above mentioned. If not, links to and from these sites. I've downloaded well into the hundreds of applications from these sites. In my experience, none of them offer fake freeware or neverending links to the download page (lmao). IMHO, they're all legit.

Wow, when I posted my first reply I did not realize the date this was created. I posted my reply about a week ago however...maybe beggining of September. Why the hell does the date of my reply state that it was posted 4-9-07? @ Viktorx, Thanks for the link, however I believe the mods on here frown on posting warez links.
@g0dZpr1z0n3r WOW, That list is amazing, thank you. I wish there was a way for members to rate other members on this board you would get a huge "+" from me for that. (I am on another board where there is a member rating system and members can give a member a plus if they help them, or a negative if they see someone being nasty for no reason)
@ Everyone else. Thank you for all the other links, I am spending lots of time browsing the places. This site is a wonderful resource.
Now some specific apps I am looking for.
Net Stumbler, its a program to scan for wireless access points.
A better dialer and call log app. I find the one that is built into the phone with Black Satin to be way to clumsy to use. I hate the fact that if I call the same number 4 times in a row, it shows that same number 4 times in the call log rather than just keeping the same number once at the top of the list. I would prefer it kept say the last 10 or 20 numbers I called in a row without repeating some of them.

Thx 4 the ups Capt.! I appreciate it! Umm...NetStumbler has its own SITE (click on the download tab). I'm not sure if you were looking for NetStumbler or MiniStumbler NetStumbler is for PCs and MiniStumbler is for SOME PPCs. Breathe eazy though homie, the program "works on most (but not all) Hermes...chipsets" . Good luck w/ that. Let us know how it works out.
Follow THIS site for all ur dialer needs. I'm not sure it will help ur "call log" issues though. Can't help you there fam. Good Luck!

Use WiFiFoFum instead of NetStumbler.
Ya the first program I tried was Ministumbler and it won't work on my Hermes (HTC Tytn) So I installed the WiFiFoFum and it worked perfect right out of the box. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
MiniStumbler is a Negative
Tried MiniStumbler on my ATT branded 8525 (factory ROM) and it does not work. Connected to Wi-Fi and nothing shows up in the App.

I don't really think there's an app that exists for the type of setup you want. I personally like that the call log lists every time that you called each #. If I'm not mistaken, WM6 approaches this situation quite differently. I'm not sure which ROM you're running, but you might wanna check that out. I didn't run WM6 long enough to remember exactly, but i found this on modernnomads pertaining to that feature:
"A major improvement is that the history belonging to a number can be retrieved. By pressing the number in the call-log you can get an overview of all calls to that number. THis is a great way to identify when you called a certain person. This information is also partially included in the contact: you will see when you last called a certain person. Unfortunatly there is no way of finding all calls to a specific contact, so you do have to remember which number you used to contact a specific person."
The article is HERE. It's a quite detailed article outlining the key features of WM6
Actually you only have to remember the number if its not saved in your contact list. All call history is saved to the contact. If I go into contacts and select a specific person I can see all the calls to that person time, date, and duration. I think WM6 is great what made you decide to remove it?
why i removed wm6
i had to remove my wm6 rom because im running vista home premium w/ mobile device center and only the black rom allowed me to sync and it wasnt my favorite. other wm6 roms wouldnt sync w/ my laptop. i would either have to sacrifice a not so favorite rom and be able to sync or use my favorite wm6 rom and not be able to sync. i decided to go back to wm5 until the official at&t wm6 rom was released. supposed to be out oct.5. dont get me wrong tho...i love wm6. each rom i flashed had pros and cons, but the pros of wm6 outweigh the cons. cant wait to get it back!
any sim games out there

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتهis it only for changing the profile or it can do more
thanks !! for your time to make it happen any how.
awesome, I was designing this kind of application myself..
But this looks nice, I will look at the source and see if my style matches yours. If so I think I'd like to help develop.
This could duplicate (and more) the functionality of Wifilocations (also on xda-developers), but more than just turning on/off the wifi and bluetooth!

i don't think so, anyway i'm planing to implement alot of new features.
let me know if you have any specific request.
I've been wondering when WM would get to have something like this. About 3yrs ago, I played with a similar program on my Nokia S60 phone. It worked pretty good. When I went to the conference room I could have the phone memorize that location and it would put my phone to silent. And so on. Thanks for your interest and work on this. I look forward to testing it out!

i will be including some more stuff in it soon
I use Wifilocations, but I find it somewhat unreliable with the cell-readout (but perhaps it's me). Anyway, I will give your application a try. I will mainly use it for turning on/off Wifi anyway.
I have a few questions though:
What is the polling frequency?
Is there a special -hide autostart option?
What is going to be different from Wifilocations?
Thx for your work!
Best, danckel

in the future, this application will have alot of features,
it will have a default profile (Unknown Location Profile) which will allow you to set your default setting when you are not in a known area.
also it will have options to prevent from stopping bluetooth and/or wifi if a call is on going (to prevent a BT Headset from disconnection or to prevent Wifi incase of VOIP call).
some more features will be there and whatever you have in mind can be implemented.
the polling time will soon be an option to set i think now it is set to 30 seconds (i'm not sure about the timer settings), the software automatically polls the cell id when a major event happens (add new location or edit one for example).
but i'm concerned about one thing, is it consuming battery?!
i didn't notice anychange in battery life or performance of the device. can you please confirm this?
thanks all for your support.
Didn't test it yet, but I'll suggest you add:
launch an app (sequence)
send predefined sms
connect to A2DP receiver
go to flight mode (cinema, hospital, plane)
turn off GSM part (bad or no coverage)
antitheft actions / lock the phone (when it leaves a specified location)
-> maybe this can be done with just running another app
How accurate is this ?
Cheers
Good Job ,, Well Done ,,
mmm ,, also I suggest to search for another products to collect more ideas to rich your software ,,
You can test this software I'm really using it ,,
http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&productId=246582
it has many ideas that you can include in your software ,,
also ,, this software not depending on net framework ,, and it has an independent wm service working in backgroud to monitor the cells and change the profile this thing make it too light and stable,,
it also has a today pluggin ,, so today pluggin it important ,,
so ,, give your self a time to try it to get more ideas for your software ,,
like,,, making it shareware
nono ,, please don't make it shareware ,, take all features from GSM Locator except this one ,,

Sure, Sure, these are all nice features
i started immediately on some of what you said
regarding the accuracy, this cannot be measured in any unit!
the GSM mobile cell looks like a hexagon, when you are outside the city this hexagon is set to be larger (covers more land) while it is smaller inside the city, mostly, inside the city (or locations with high mobile traffic) will have more accuracy but not that much precised! for example it will not distinguish a room in your home, but it will be able to recognize your home (but maybe not your neighbour if both are covered with the same cell tower).

needing dot NET framework is not a minus! it's a framework, it makes my life (as a systems developer) easier.
developing a today plugin is tricky, it requres an unmanaged code (cannot be done via managed code at all), so if anyone is interesed in helping me in this part i would be pleased

No way, i'm not planing to establish a company and sell this product. i'm having fun developing it in my spare time
some people might have a performance concern, i did my best to avoid any practice that might affect performance. but even though, please report any performance issues if you face some
enjoy it

mmm ,, also I suggest to search for another products to collect more ideas to rich your software ,,
You can test this software I'm really using it ,,
http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&productId=246582
it has many ideas that you can include in your software ,,
also ,, this software not depending on net framework ,, and it has an independent wm service working in backgroud to monitor the cells and change the profile this thing make it too light and stable,,
it also has a today pluggin ,, so today pluggin it important ,,
so ,, give your self a time to try it to get more ideas for your software ,,

Guy, you were plugging your app (with handango link no less) three times on the other thread and now you are bumping it in here on the other app's thread, again? You must seriously work for them. Please, cut it off.
I tried your program, however, it could never get a fix on my location... it was always "unknown".

the polling time will soon be an option to set i think now it is set to 30 seconds (i'm not sure about the timer settings), the software automatically polls the cell id when a major event happens (add new location or edit one for example).

Polling time of 30sec is fine, but I could not verify it. A very helpful trigger event is "turning on the device again". Could you include an active polling on this event?
It would also be nice if the application showed the actual cell id rather than reporting "Unknown" on the main screen. This enables me to check whether the polling actually works.
Wifilocations also has a trigger event when you leave rather than enter a cell. This could also be very handy.
Battery drain is of course a major concern, because the application has to run continuously. I haven't had time to check the battery drain yet.
Finally, is there a program switch that enables starting the program in the background?
PS: Thanks also for sharing the source code.
send predefined sms
-this option would be very useful for people who always travel because it can send an sms to a pre defined number especially if it will also send the cellid. it can be used as a tracking device.
this is what i did:
- launched LPM
- Options > Add New Location
- added location name: Office> ticked Ringing Volume > adjusted to lowest point > Start Recording > Saved
- quit the app
- relaunched the app, now the Current Location shows "Office", Ringer: 0%
- when someone calls, the ringer volume is still max

Under Dev - CAD application for Android

My team has been vigorously working on a CAD application for android. I will post some screenshots of the tool if anyone is interested, so please let me know.
It's currently being tested and developed using a Motorola Droid running 2.0.1. Although we can run the emulator and test different screens using it, we find great difficulty in knowing if the "feel" is nice on a smaller screen.
Anyway - current features that are working:
Objects: Line, Circle, Ellipse, Rectangle, 3 Point Arcs, Text Areas
Drawing Modes: Orthographic (including 45s), Grid On Off, Snap Mode On Off (Endpoints, Centerpoints, Midpoints, Quadrants)
Other Things: Undo, Redo, Erase, Modify (reshape & move), Pan, Layering System, Linetypes, Colors & Text Sizes.
In The Works: Zoom (Option for Pinch), Configurable Toolbar (Add/Remove Tools), Export to DXF & Linetypes.
We are looking for a few people that would be willing to get in on a "PRIVATE Beta" to assist us with the continued development. We have our day jobs, so this is a project that when we have time to work on, we do. However, we do spent quite a bit of time working on it .
Anyway - We want to be picky about the testers, simply because we need to have a nice round group of people. Not plumpy, just round. We need a couple guys that are good with input, finding problems, etc. And we also need a few that dont know anything about CAD and can help us to see if the average joe can figure it out.
We also need a couple good mathmeticians or programmers. Or even one would do. We are having some trouble computing certain boundaries (ellipses to be more precise) that we need to understand so that we can build in other commands like Trim or Extend. (Plus our select option on ellipses is a bit hokey, but knowing how to find an ellipse will solve that for us)
For now, the only assistance I can give you is through the board here, and help you get started. The tutorial will come soon, once we get the basics figured out as to how we want to make it really work.
Anyway - To make a long story even longer - let me know if you might be interested. I would be more than happy to post some screenshots if you like of its current state. So let me know if you are interested.
Thank you very much for sticking through the long a$$ read, or even for skipping through to the "thanks" is enough for me.
That being said - LMK! Thanks!
A capacitive touch screen doesn't seem a good candidate for controlling a smooth CAD experience. However on second thought, when coupling together this technology with a trackball, the possibilities really open up. Harness these well and I know you'll be onto something here.
Post some screens to show everyone the progress of your development and I'll let you know if I'd be interested in testing.
Cheers
Well if your looking for anyone with CAD knowledge, I have a degree in engineering with CAD, and Pro Engineer. I don't have much time to devote to beta testing, but I do have time every now and then. I run a ION with 1.6. Good luck on your software!

That should be plenty of screens to keep interest.
@Lancealot - Thank you very much, and I completely agree, that when we started this, there was some doubt as to how precise you could actually be using a "touch based" screen. The good news, through playing with it, and given ability to set tolerances based on the size of your "touch area" as well as snapping options, we found that you can actually be quite precise.
Ill fiddle with it a little today, put together a drawing and give you a nice example of something that can be made with this.
Keep in mind, this is a work in progress, and although much of the functionality that is currently built into the tool, is at a "finished" state, there is certainly room for input and comments from others that may find use in this tool.
Anyway - here are the screenshots as promised, let me know if you have any further questions.
(Again - sorry about the inconvenience on the links)
(edit to update image types to jpg instead of png)
@zul8er - we are certainly interested in your input. Check out the screenshots and let me know if you are still interested. We dont need a huge commitment, but anything that you might be able to provide would certainly be a big help.
Android 1.6 is the minimum OS currently supported. We need to do some work on the graphics to go as far back as 1.5 to compensate for screen size, and we intend on doing so.. Just not at this current time.
I would be interested in trying out your CAD program. I've been doing CAD for ove 10 years now, started with AutoCAD but have been using Solidworks for the last 8 years.
In addition to using the touch screen for input, will you be able to enter X and Y coordinates using a keyboard or virtual keyboard?
What format will it save the files? DXF, JPG, or what?

Currently the file format is a proprietary format. But we are currently (today actually) working on saving out to a DXF format to be able to reload your files into AutoCAD or other supported softwares.
The ability to import is also in the works, but will require some massaging on the users end to make sure the DXF file is not binary etc. (MTEXT may not be supported either)

We have toyed with the idea of being able to put in specific dimensions on objects, and also work with x/y coords, but at this time, it only supports point to point drawing. We arent completely sure if we intend on building a "FULL ON CAD" application, or an application for people to use to simply get an idea of what they need to do for a job. The other key, is to keep the application at a price range that is reasonable for people. Most "PocketCAD" applications run around 50 bucks a copy - and rightfully so. To keep the tool at a reasonable range (below 10 or 15 dollars) it may need to be a bit lighter weight than those. Most people cringe at a 2.99 app..
IF we could devote our time 100% i am sure we could build a really nice full blown cad app Unfortunately as with most of us, the day job prohibits some of that time.
Its a WIP I'll put you on the list. Thanks for the input.
Are you looking for beta testers?
Hi, are you looking for beta testers. I'm a long year CAD user, and I'm sure I can help with the app development.
[email protected]
Have you tried using some of the java based cad software as a source for your project? There are many and some might be open source.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ycad/
Yeah I am still interested. It will be neat to play with and see how it works. The coordinate input is a good idea, also, ever play with Pro Engineer? They have a cool way of building an initial drawing. You just sketch, regen, and then input your dimensions to make the object to your liking. Makes things a lot faster and easier to edit a shape if changes need to occur.
I dont know how in depth you want to go, or if that idea can be used.
My email is [email protected]
Nice
Give me a couple more days to get a good product out for you guys to test. Currently we are cleaning up a few little "we'll get that later" issues, and should be good to go by mid/late next week.
Thanks for providing the contact info, I will shoot you a message through email shortly.
Thanks agian for the interest.
@zul8er: nice. Look forward to hearing how you like the feel of it. I havent had a chance to play with ProE, as AutoCAD has been my forte for the last couple decades. Ill see if i can any kind of demo for ProE, and get an idea of how it works. Who knows Anything to make it easier for everyone is a good thing.
But yah - the indepth thing is the issue. We keep tossing with ideas and putting them "on the list" in case people start asking for them. I guess it just depends on how people really want to use this tool. (and of course, how much time we can continue to devote to it) - bah i hate day jobs
I enjoyed the screen shots that were posted. Any idea whether you guys will support rendering/raycasting, or physics with inverse kinematics? Either way it looks great; Sign me up!
haha Not sure if we are going to go the IK way. Maybe as a different project, something more suited to 3D, but for this app, we are only intending on running the 2D route.
My lack of knowledge about the OpenGL portion, really limits us with regards to 3D implementation. I spent a good 3 days just trying to get ahold of loading in a 3D model.. Still never got there (or would have probably released a 3D model viewer first).
At any rate, its hard to say where this will go. It mostly depends on the overall interest i suppose. Its certain that the sky would be the limit, if time were as available as the sky
But cool.. Glad I was able to keep your interest.
Currently (as I type even) I am finishing up all of the help documentation for the app, the inline tutorial, and what not.. A couple more days on the file handling (DXF in particular) and should be set to go for a BETA run. ('couple more days' - like we all havent heard enough of that)
@lancelot - can you send me your email address via private message? That way I can do the BETA communications through there (link to files etc). You are welcome to email me as well:

Hey, I'm a high school student that has just started learning CAD, does that count as average Joe? I'd love to help beta test, I really want android to overpower iPhone 3.0 lol. My e-mail is [email protected] I use g1 with cyanogenmod 1.6...so idk if that qualifies. But anyways, Good luck!
This really sounds promising. In the last few weeks, I really had the need for a good drawing software on my mobile device. But my Tytn II lacks of power. As I soon will get the Desire, I will hopefully have a quite powerful device for all day use (my Tytn II really sux atm). And because I have the re-occurring need of a drawing app, this could be it.
I mean I don't need it for simple drawing, but for constructing things CAD style and on the go Graphics of furniture or something with measures and all that stuff.
Hey guys.. just wanted to pass you an update on status (which is so much more than I seem to be getting from Verizon on the 2.1 update).
Small rant, but its done now.
Ok - status..
DXF Export is working now, supporting layers, linetypes, colors, and elements throughout the drawing. Am having some issues with getting ellipses to export via DXF (and im not alone - faulty specs are at fault), and that combined with the other issues regarding the math behind finding ellipse edges, we decided to comment out the ellipse alltogether for now. Not that it wont be back, but having so many rules with "you can do this to anything - except an ellipse" left us with no other choice.
It's coming back, just not right now.
We have saving and opening completed (simple proprietary ascii format, but it works for what we need it to do).
Zoom is currently partially working (difficult to complete the recalculation on the elements, but its really close) touch events for zoom are coming up as well. Maybe a pinch zoom even, considering that all devices are getting the 2.0+ upgrade - but we will see.. We dont want to keep anyone excluded from being able to use the tool.
@Balrog82 - we have definately taken this tool a long way since its initial conception. We hope to be able to bring more features that are more "CAD Specific" to the application, and will if it becomes a tool that gets used. We want to release it initially as a "basic" drafting tool, and see what kind of input we get. If we see that a lot of people are using it, and would like the ability to put in dimensions the same way that cad does (within limits) we will certainly look into it.
That being said - I hope the tool is still something you would be willing to try out. I find a lot of enjoyment with working with a tool at its early conception (started using paint shop pro at version 1.42) and now its on to version 14 or something and owned by corel. I just kinda get into that sort of thing, and hope that you all will do.
Good thing is, we hope its a draw to the tool, we plan on releasing it at the market both as a free version (no saving abilities) and a full version at a low price. As the tool grows, the price may increase a bit.. Keeping of course the original buyers at a place that they can keep updating the software at no cost to them. We think that will help the advancement and development of the tool quite a bit.
Anyway - It is right around the corner for initial testing. Please to all interested - send me a PM with your contact information (just an email would be great) I am going to see if i can start a private discussion here to invite you all to as well.
@Lancealot - i got your PM.. Am very happy that you are interested in helping. Expect to hear from me again soon..
Until we can see a working model of this app, I thought I would throw out an app that has some great drawing capabilities. The paid was is called "Picso" by Tiki Move, but I used the free version to try out; it's called "Picso Lite".
It's not a CAD app, but it's different from the other Paint apps on Android in that it has tools the other ones don't. It has the usual tools a CAD user would need, such as Rectangles/Squares, Circles/Ellipses, and Lines. You can change the colors and widths of these entities.
What I like about your program is that it has snaps, and the tools are on the bottom of the screen so they are easy to get to: /talon-designs.net/android/andcad/07.jpg
A feature Picso needs is a Zoom tool so you can zoom in to an area and draw whatever you need to and then be able to zoom full screen. It also needs a text tool. Since there is no dimension tool, you could put a text for the dimension.
P.S.,
I want to try your app, but I am only posting this to show how someone else has put these tools on their app and also to have a comparison on ease-of-use. One other thought, you mentioned the files your CAD app will create will be proprietary file types. Will you be able to save-as .jpg or .png so you can email or text-message a sketch to someone? That way if your on-site you will be able to send someone back at the office whatever it is to explain your ideas, and also they would not have to have an Android phone to view it.
Idea sounds great. Good luck with it!

Android Category Winner
Talon Designs, AndCAD
This application allows users to create simple geometric shapes, combined with notes, to describe plans associated with the art, architecture, engineering and manufacturing industries. Many of the tools familiar to CAD users are incorporated into this utility, meaning that fluent CAD users will feel right at home using this tool. However, the interface for this tool is simple enough for even the most novices of users to understand. This enables certain users (Contractors, etc) to be able to take notes while on a job site and associate them with vector elements within the drawing.
