WM6.5/Bluetooth/Old IE - Wing, P4350 General

I didn't want to post this in the ROM Development forum because it doesn't apply to a specific ROM, but this is a question about them.
I am looking for a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM that has Bluetooth and the OLD version of Pocket Internet Explorer. I really only use IE to stream MLB games, and the new IE is INCREDIBLY slow for that task. I use Opera Mini for everything else, but MLB requires IE. And I listen to the games through Bluetooth stereo headphones, so I need that too.
FingerMe Titanium's Lite version almost has it. There's a version with the old PIE but no Bluetooth, and a version with Bluetooth but the new PIE. I've looked around at all the ROMs in the Development forum but I haven't found a stripped-down one that has the specific combination I'm looking for: WM6.5, Bluetooth and old PIE.
I know a lot of people that read this are going to say, "Use a kitchen and build one yourself". Believe me, I've tried. I played with SuperJustKitchen and got close, but I think I just lack the required cooking skills necessary to produce exactly what I want in a ROM. About eighty failed recipes have convinced me of this.
Anyway, if someone out there can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks a lot.

I have to admit my first instinct was to jump your case for posting this. Technically it is a ROM development question, general though it is, and should be in that forum. No worries though, you did have some forethought on the matter instead of blindly posting wherever, so you get +1 for that.
However, you didn't look too hard lol, because illconcepts StripTease: Lots to Love edition is what you are looking for, and it has been around for a while now.

Wow, yeah, that is perfect. Thank you for the lead. I guess I stopped reading at the first version of that one when I didn't see what I was looking for. Oops. Looks like Black and Blue might work too.
I posted in the main forum because it looks like most of the posts in the development forum are for specific ROMs, and I didn't want to start a new thread that didn't involve one of those specifically. Turns out I didn't even need to post a question at all, just not be so lazy.
Thanks again.

Lol it's all good. illconcepts updates that thread periodically, so it may not have been there the first time you looked, although he hasn't edited the thread in a couple weeks. Glad I could help.

Idea on fixing the forum posting issue

I have been watching things here start to get a little crazy (atleast in the Hermes thread). I don't have a magic answer, I wish i did. I have been thinking about his for the last three days. Then with JJ, the developer of black for the Hermes, deciding to take his rom to another site, yet to be determined. I started to think about how the ROMs are being supported.
I seems that we need to look support these roms like any software application I've been part of developing in the past. I think we need to look at adding a bug track system. Rather than use the forum for bugs and new releases what do you guys think about using a bug track system for this. This could be used for all kinds of applications.
Lets talk about this and see if the Admins and Mod think that this cold be something that is possible to get integrated into the xda site.

So we just give up. Sorry I just not ready to give up like that. We have to learn to educate these users. I agree with a thread I saw under the hermes about making a rule about posts like "DLing now".
never said anything about giving up... y dont you have a chat to the Administrator Peter Poleman...

Best Stable ROM w / Full Exchange Support

Hello All, I am considering purchasing a MyTouch 3G but need full Exchange Support. Which ROM out there is my best choice? It needs to be stable for day to day use with Bluetooth and WiFi working. Any recommendations would be greatly appriciated. Otherwise, I may end up going with the Touch Pro 2. Thanks.
I use this one, it's superb

Hello All, I am considering if you even tryed to use the search there should plenty of info about this around.
Further more i wonder if you even tryed to read the sticky topic "Please dont start a new thread if something like this happens"
Q- Which ROM is best for me/ Which ROM is the best for 32A/B?
A- Take some time on the forums, look at the ROMs available for your device and individually assess what works for you by reading the various issues affecting them and make a decision. If that still doesn't work out for you, hey, that's what makes XDA great, try a different one and so on, till you find one that YOU'RE happy with. It's very subjective since what my needs are could be totally different from what yours are.
There ya go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555499
Edit: reported for being a noob creating an profile and posting his first question in the wrong category without even reading the rules or trying to make a search on the subject!
Wrong forum section dude, try general instead. Thread has been reported.
MOD EDIT
Moved to general forum. In future please try and post in correct forum.
HINT - For example in your case, ask yourself is your query about themes, software, games, android development etc. No its not, so post in general.
First, sorry about posting in the wrong thread. I thought a question about rom's would go in the rom's forum, guess I was wrong.
Second, I have spent time, a LOT of time, searching the forums regarding which rom to use. I was hoping to get feedback from other people that have been using them in regards to my specific requests - Exchange, WiFi and Bluetooth. Honestly, the forums get really confusing with the multiple names the devices have, the cross device porting and such. It is not a simple task to find a ROM with XYZ. Plus the forums do not always state what does work. I was just looking for some feedback before sinking a couple hundred bucks on a phone. Sorry for being a noob.
_Belial, thank you for your recommendation.

Well i guess many people using xda started to get frustrated and annoyed about how hard it can be to find what you seek. But one of the reasons for it is that things started to get messy cause of to many topics concerning the same problems/solutions.
We all been new around here once and we can all make mistakes so no hard feeling. At least we have some good moderators trying to get things in there right places
i think the question about full exchange support is a valid one.
there are many roms out there that support exchange, but they only support email, not calendar and contacts, and the change log doesn't always reflect this.

I'm a new member with Questions about my HD2

Well, it's more than just questions.
I have the HD2 and I really enjoy it. Think it's a great piece of hardware. WM6.5 gets the job done for the most part, but I can understand some of the concerns with the OS. It's good to hear that you guys are already working on WM7 and the port to this phone!
Truth is, I put my coin in google's corner, so I'm hoping that Android finds its way into the HD2 via T Mobile.
I'm a bit tech savy, been involved with computer animation and can build computers as well. I thought I ask about the learning curve when it comes to development on PDA's such as mine. With the drop of Android, I flirted with the idea of learning code.
Is Android Linux based?
You guys hear anything about Android getting a port to this phone? I've done the google search and can only find the sprint version of HD2 with Android installed. That does nothing for TMobile customers.
I read up a bit on XDA and they appear legit. My concern is code being used for identity theft. Anyone have bad experiences with XDA and the software that is released here for share? Does the software under go some sort of QA before it's provided for download?
I have no problem with donations, trust is what earns my donations...fair enough, right?
Ultimately, I really like this phone and look forward to further enhancing it...I hear XDA is the place to be!
Thanks guys/gals.
FAQ's and sticky threads are your friend as is google.
Try reading abit, get a feel for the site.. Then ask..
Yes Winmo7 is being ported to the touch HD, though at the moment it's sluggish due to lack of graphical acceleration (and not really something i"m excited by since it doesn't have copy and paste and no multitasking. IMHO it's really more like an iphone/toy meant for none-techy people).
I don't expect an official update/ROM for the HD2 with android to ever be released by htc/tmobile. However, I would be surprised if one wasn't ported by xda from other devices (like nexus/evo 4g).
Yes, android is unix based. (develepment done in java (for upper stuff) and C (for lower stuff)).
Anything you download and install from xda you do so at your own risk. However, I would argue that the risk is minimal (almost none existent) as long as you follow directions and read posts. The only thing that can brick your phone is a failed radio/SPL update/change. Anything else can be cured by a hard reset.
(and what kable said)
As unfriendly as my reply may seem, for a "tech savvy" guy you asked several questions which would have been abundantly answered if you properly used the search tools of the forum, or if you simply browsed through the most active threads

Thick skin...you grouches don't faze me
I've been through the site a bit, what can I say, life outside of the computer caught up and I got a little impatient!
I'm still reading through the forum. Have yet to find an answer to this question.
If I install Android on my HD2 (US), something goes wrong...will I be able to do a hard reset, or reinstall WM6.5?
I really think Android would benefit more out of this hardware. It seems as if everything Unix based always requires less resources and gets the job done!
I also would like to know how I can uninstall these game demos that are eating up space? Will this be a registry edit?
I feel as if Android would FLY on this device. WM6.5 is getting the job done, but it's to late for Microsoft with me. I've used Linux for some time and I just think it's better. Huge supporter of Linux!

oh, no grouches intended (and the "I have a life" excuse is old )
There's no way to install Android on the HD2, currently, that's why you couldn't find on these forums how to uninstall it from the hd2
Game demos were not included in my stock rom, if you're using a customized rom from a carrier, then either you find and delete the relevant files, if that's even possible, or you flash a clean custom rom from the rom dev forums which includes onyl the necessary software... but then again, I know all this info because I found it on the forums

Look at you, browsing through forums and stuff. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you.
Thanks for the info. I do have a custom ROM from TMOUS. Has games like guitar hero, prince of persia...more bloated ware. I estimate about 30 mbps of used space.

If they allow you to uninstall the games this is how you would go about it:
Go to the settings tab in Sense -> menu(lower right corner) -> all settings -> system -> remove programs.
Now the other option would be to flash your current rom to something faster and less bloated. T-Mobile US Rom Development Forum
I definitely recommend you read the Stickies before going about flashing your phone. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Would suck if you brick your new HD2 just because you didn't! This is what these forums are for despite what some members might claim.
As for your other questions yes Android is Unix based and is probably going to be available for the HD2 sometime in the future(don't ask when). There's already a dual boot app so when Android becomes available switching between the two operating systems should be a breeze.
Welcome to the forums and enjoy your new phone!
Hi,
A bit irrrelevant to reply here, but I did not any other place. Have been following this forum for quite sometime. Been around with windows mobile app development for sometime. But what really interest me is when people from this forum tweaks Rom image or port to other harware. Here things look quite easy. Is it really easy? I saw one single person tweaking a ROM image and porting to different hardware?
Hope I have not offended anyone.

Thanks. And no, it only allows me to uninstall apps I've installed after the initial setup. I've been through system files and the sorts and I can only find icons and other "blah" that's not the actual install directory. I show all the hidden files and still, can't find it.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to Android. Don't need the dual boot. Just a solid port with solid drivers.
Sorry everyone for the irrelevant post again.
I was hoping that someone will reply saying - "porting ROM is not a big deal, this is how you do it"

Epic fail.
one thing that has been alittle pain is how the albums are viewed. i created an album for videos, yet when i view I can't have a name of the file visable, just a thumbnail. that doesn't work well at all. works fine with pictures cuz what you see is what you. videos start with a black screen; becomes a guessing game. am i missing something?

Threadlist

Hi!
I was just wondering if anyone would like to point me and others in the direction of some other useful threads to check out that relate to our Hero. (Not Superman, he's still GSM only)
For example, I've wondered if any subforums other than Hero CDMA in the HTC Hero Forums here on XDA have any useful info or downloads that are relevant. Also, I've been wondering the same thing about the general Android forums here on XDA.
I keep a CDMA Hero bookmark button on top of Firefox, but does anyone have any good suggestions of other sites or subforums/threads that I can add along with it and check about as much as I check Facebook, Gmail and Plentyoffish? Hahaha
The thread list is up at the top.. Under search..
Have fun with it..

There is plenty to read and learn both in the G2 section, and in the wider general Android forum. I highly recommend checking it out.
Haha, yeah, thanks. I was about to say thanks, ****, but I saw you're joking so it's cool.
Before anyone tries to use the old "google it" line on me, let me say, yeah - I've googled it before. I know several good sites to check out other than XDA, like android central and so on.
I'm just wondering what other people check religiously like I check this subforum.
I'm also mainly curious to know if there's even any point reading through stuff on in the GSM Hero subforums. It's so lame that we only get one lousy little subforum! There's bound to be a wealth of knowledge, downloads, etc. in the GSM subforums, but I just don't want to waste my time or learn harmful/useless things.
By the way, if I could soapbox for a minute (and this has nothing to do with the post above this one, lol), I've noticed a lot of rudeness in the CDMA Hero posts, and it's a shame.
Of course it gets annoying to see people begging for help with common issues that have been addressed a hundred times. No one denies that, but it's just something that will always be there. Unless there is a quiz on the basics of flashing ROMs and using a device before one can make posts on here, it's always going to happen. Getting annoyed with this is understandable.
However, I've noticed other types of threads posted, which while a bit annoying because we've seen the same thing over and over, really don't deserve the rudeness that they get. Who cares if there are 50 threads on here where people ask what other people prefer to use as a daily ROM, or what their home screen looks like? Does anyone lose any money or time over this? Is there a thread limit here? No. This is a community of people who have the same device and who all want to get the best out of their devices. If a thread is pointless, it will be buried quickly when no one posts in it, and the more popular threads will remain on the first page. A pointless thread will continue to stay on the first page though, when someone takes the time to make a rude post!
Anyway, sorry to rant on and on about it, but it would really be great to see the CDMA Hero community work together a little better and be a little less anal. This is probably the number one site that people with our phone check to learn more and update and generally get more out of the Hero experience. Instead of scaring people away from making new threads and posts to ask people what they like and why they like it, we should really try to encourage this. The more we all come together and explore things together (regardless of how repetitive and in some opinions possibly even trivial some of these things may be), the more we grow as a whole, and I am sure that this kind of atmosphere will encourage more people to make more and more interesting contributions.
The beauty of Android and of XDA Developers Forums is that they were both created with the goal of people coming together and developing, creating, tweaking, designing, and discussing. Before the Hero, I was permanently glued to a Dell Axim x51v, and between these forums and HTCGeeks, and a friendly and open community of users and developers, we've taken the device FAR beyond anything that anyone could have dreamed it could get to when it was made, what, 5 years ago?

GSM Hero Themes/Apps Thread
Curious - is this thread useful at all to us, or will any themes and apps be useless since we're CDMA?
I already know (I think) that GSM themes won't work because they're probably designed for GSM ROMs, so all kinds of things won't be compatible. (Like trying to use a 1.5 theme on a 2.1 ROM)
Are things like widgets and clocks ROM and/or device specific? I'm on a widget hunt.
I'm new to using Helix and I'd love to find some widgets that compare to the awesome Sense widgets, particularly Sense's beautiful Messaging, Mail, Music, and Friendstream widgets.

It's not that we care that there is a hundred threads that say the same thing, its that if there are 100 threads of the same topic, it in effect, makes our forum usage a terror, because navigation is almost doomed from the beginning in that situation..
And it is not going to be something that is always there, because with mods actually modding these threads on other forums that I frequent daily, *they are virtually non-existant...
For the "noob" users, they cannot find these answers efficiently because the forum is blasted with the same thing over and over... With different answers in each thread..
The only way to make the "noob's" life easier, is to format the forum in a efficient and knowledge ready way...
Which by letting noob's overrun your forum, is not possible... We are hateful because you are feeding an endless chain of questions, when it could be handled in a much more effective way, if it wasn't for people flaming people who are actually looking out for the forum....

Yeah, it's kinda bad here... It's like that on pretty much any technical forum, but things are really over the top on this one.
It's to the point now that when I do have a question I feel like I need to devote one short paragraph to asking the question, then tack on 5 more long paragraphs explaining that I already DID search, came up empty handed, searched again, explain which keywords I searched on, etc....
Surely there's a happy medium that can be found...

Hey, I'm not trying to come off defensive to you in this reply because I appreciate your posts on here, but are you saying that I personally am feeding an endless chain of questions?
Also, maybe I'm wrong, but I think that the problem may be in people looking out for the forum too much, when the point of this whole XDA Developers Forum thing should be to look out for the fellow user. Like I said though, I may be wrong.
And I don't mean that it's perfectly cool to have hundreds of the same thread in here, I agree that is useless clutter. I just think that some threads that get posted do have potential for the good of the community, but they get squashed quickly by posters with bad attitudes, and then the OP in that thread and others who have the same thoughts and questions become too embarrassed or insulted/offended to post again. When that happens, someone who may have eventually provided something amazing to the community will either never get to that point, or will get there and just won't post it here because of the bad experience.
I'm sure that there are all kinds of amazing things that people have tweaked, developed, designed, and created, but they're never going to be publicly released for one reason or another. Let's not let the reason be that they were treated like they were stupid when they were finding their way on these forums.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. People will get to the point that they just won't post anything when they have an idea or a question because there's no happy medium. And the worse it gets, the less progress we make as a whole.

No not you specifically. Sorry that was an analogous "you".. And I totally agree.. But 95% of the ones get shot down immediately, deserve it, even though you might not think so, from the people with answers, you will know almost immediately if it merits further investigation. Wishful-thinking and impossible sometimes walk a very narrow line. Developers and end-users have entirely different mindsets.. That's never going to change.. But the end-users should have a more thorough understanding of what it is we do for you and *developers should be more compassionate "for the most part (there are alot of caring devs)..
Where this sub-forum was destroyed, was giving it sub-forum status and not its own separate forum, like every other HTC device.. Then, we would get a development sub-forum, themes forum, etc. The development is different than the GSM Hero, so why doesn't it deserve its own?
You will see, that with honest concerns and problems, I will go to the end of the world for you...
But, if you want something from me, (effort to help you) you must at least show some sort of effort to solve the issue, besides "NEW TOPIC< IS MY PHONE BRICKED?"

I can definitely see your point.
But this is where the happy medium needs to be found. I know I'm the exception rather than the rule on this point, but by the time I post asking for help, it's safe to say I've spent at least one day each both trying to figure out an answer on my own (and I'm fairly capable), and searching this forum, other forums, and google to see if anyone else has had and solved the same problem.
That's effort that isn't seen, but it's extremely frustrating to feel obligated to explain it all in detail in exchange for the privilege of asking a question.
Now, don't take this post the wrong way. There's absolutely nothing wrong with expecting people to do a little digging on their own before they come crying for help.
I just think this forum (as a whole, not you specifically) has gone a bit over the top with how much "proof" of that digging is required before someone can feel comfortable asking their question.
(And I'm not really even complaining, just offering my observations on a topic that was already brought up for discussion....)
I get very sarcastic... But only because I think sarcasm is funny...
And you really don't have to explain it yourself *in every post.. Because most of us with a thorough background, can tell how much effort you put in, just by your question... (edit* Yourself is again analogous, not you)
For Example, the 2.1 thread this morning...
I opened it up, thinking to myself "Not again"...
But when I read and see that it was actually about A2DP, mindset about the thread changes, and I go into help mode... That invoked thought and development just from that post..
Now if I had opened it up, and it was a brand new "Can I change back to a rooted rom after the OTA update" question... I would have went into sarcasm mode... And I don't want to help that guy be lazy.. Why should we give him the benefit of spouting off verbatim what has been answered 1000 times before, just because he can't take the 20 mins to peruse over a couple threads??
I am all about the education of every single member of this forum, into all of the ways of Android... But its like what my papaw used to tell me, "You get what you put in."
And to ray...
Download GMOB chat, from the market...
Go to the rooted users chat, and there is usually alot of good info there, you just have to sort of wade through some of it, since you only get to see like the 50 most recent posts.. So it takes a little more effort to find anything... Also the apps room is pretty cool...
I have found technorati.com is getting alot better...
androidfreeware.com is good for apps.
OK, now to take the completely opposite side....
I was just reading another topic and in 5 minutes I saw 3 different questions posted that had been answered ON THAT SAME PAGE!!!
The proper profanity has not yet been invented to describe people like that.
See subliminal...
It's not that I don't wanna see those questions asked, I just want people to understand the nature of a forum, and alot* here do not...
If people read, before they start looking for answers, we would be alot better..
The issue is, that all of these people look to have a very limited understanding of Android, and just want a phone to use.. And this is not the forum for those.. Android-central, sprintusers.com, etc are more appropriate..
This forum is for development, not for chatting about the evo, or why your 1.5 is better than 2.1.. or how android is the iphone killer..
This forum is to bring ideas to our platform, and to build upon them... And to release mods and hacks..
Not for people to rant about how sprint sucks, and I want a nexus one..
Or to rant about how developers are stealing our donations....
It is to make our phone better, and with people feeding this nonsense, we are hindering the forum from where it should be...

But what if Sprint sucks, the Nexus One is a POS...
AND....
Why can't I get a Nexus One on Sprint?
(I really do understand both sides of the issue. I just kinda agree that some on this forum are a bit quick on the draw with the "Use the search you ****in' noob!" gun....)

Hey thanks, I'll check that out! By the way, after thinking about it today and catching up on this thread's replies, I think we're thinking on the same page.
It would be handy, I think, if we could get some extremely well written and dummy-proof How-To's stickied for the main page. I know there is already a sticky wicky for guides, but I remember still being a bit lost even having read them when I was new to the Hero. I wrote some extremely detailed step by step how-to's for the x51v over at htcgeeks, and though it might be my own vanity speaking, I think that it slowed down the constant repetitive questions. I'd volunteer to help out with this if we could get some Mod help to reorganize the stickies. I think we should have individual ones for...
- How To Setup an SD Card for A2SD
- How To Install Recovery and How To Use It (Nandroids, what they are, wipes, which ones to use for what, Fix UID's explanation, etc.)
- How To Flash a Custom ROM
- How To Flash a Custom Theme
- Troubleshooting PC Sync Issues
- How To Setup and Use ADB Shell with a list of ADB functions
I know we have this stuff now, but I remember it took a while to find all the info I needed to learn all these things when I was new to the Hero, and the current Guides sticky wasn't as helpful as it could have been. And I'm a pretty resourceful and intelligent guy who can search, read, and follow instructions! (Or at least I like to think so, lol)
Oh, and to make a preventative strike against hundreds of future bug reports on new ROMs, giant bold text on every page of every thread that says "WIPE DATA, DALVIK CACHE, AND SD EXT BEFORE FLASHING A DIFFERENT ROM!!!

anddroid on HD2. is it Possaoble?

I had my hd2 for 2 months and i love it. But, im getting very disappointed that it's lacking in apps and community support unlike the andriod and iphone os. I see poplur apps that are available for android and iphone but not wm. i am starting to wish i never got the hd2 and really wish i knew about the evo thats coming out soon.
on top of that i see the phone on ebay has really dropped in price to about £270 ($411)
so is it possible to put android on hd2?
Wow
Before you get blasted for making a post and not searching let me give you some advice, Search! There are a LOT of threads about Android on HD2, it's not there yet but it is being worked on. Really, type Android in the search bar and you will see all the threads asking the same thing, good luck
*INSERT GENERIC FLAME HERE*
Your luck i just dont have the energy today
While we are on this topic, is it possible to use my HD2 as a vacuum cleaner?

If you used the search functions (like most people) you would find your answer.
If you did this simple thing you would find that at this time, its not yet possible, HTC have the best group of developers on it but are having some trouble with the porting or something.
I'm just a few days away from being able to use my HD2 as a micro-oven

I bet your cooked ROMs will taste delightful!
Off: I succeeded in using my HD2 as a condom yesterday! Took me ages to port every bit of information...
On: Let's assume you haven't read the forum rules, thus you wouldn't know about the built in Search function. There`s Google. Why not Google for something (such as "android on hd2")? After all, it`s much easier to type and to read than typing a long post on a board where you need an account and where you need to wait for others to answer your question...
At least he searched the price of the HD2 on ebay...
i bet you guyz are unfriendly , help him if not *********** ,......,
anyway its still under development and needs some time i can say its 40 % to its full
potential

It also really surprised me to see the price of HD2 drop down so quickly. Maybe mostly because not so many people can get on well with HD2, which is the best phone I've ever bought.
Easy on the flaming guys. Im sure he understands now. For all u know, u might just drive someone away from xda with negative thoughts......where as this is one of the most helpful community.
Like yourself I'm a new HD2 owner. I can understand why you might think there's a lack of apps for our device, when devices like the iPhone have 160,000+ apps. However I've found four different GPS nav apps out there (Igo, CoPilot, TomTom and Garmin), an app to make a flashlight out of your camera LEDs, a registry editor, a voice-dialler, a metal detector, a decent file explorer, a media player etc etc etc. The question needs to be asked, how many media players / file explorers / gps apps do you need on your device? For me, one of each is more than enough. Many of the iPhone apps are just double-ups of the same functionality.
After getting my phone I spent the next week on XDA searching for apps, themes, tweaks and games, trying them out and working out what works and what doesnt.
My HD2 is now running and looking mint, and I've got more games than I know what to do with. As the others in this thread have already pointed out, you do need to take the time and use the search function.
As for support, you couldn't be more wrong - it was the emmense wealth of knowledge of XDA-developers that gave me the confidence to buy the HD2. It will take you time to find the info you're looking for in these forums, but the answers are there, and you'll end up with a superior phone to the iPhone if you're prepared to give it a chance.
Drop me an email on [email protected] if you'd like to know where to find the bits you're after.
Not only he did not serch .. but hes speling sux too. !
This is one of the funniest Android response threads that I've read lmao. At least the repsonses were good natured and not hateful like some other threads have been. And I hope the OP didn't get scared away, he should think of it as his initiation. And Im sure a lot of Senior users had at least one noobie moment in the beginning.
When I had my Shadow/Juno and started modding my first post was "where is the windows folder"
