You mean the backlight goes out?
There is a configuration that the backlight should be 'always on'.
I mean when I donĀ“t touch screen or do anything the screen goes off and I have to push powerbutton to see Igo..
In iGO8 go to Settings>>>Device>1st bar, click on it until "Power Management Backlight Always On" appears.
big Thanks guys!

My exec seems to be very random with the keyboard backlight. Sometimes it works fine at night and other times it does not want to play at all.
And ideas??
Thanks
Could be down to the automatic backlight function, try turning it off and setting it so it comes on whenever you press a key
mine did this, i coloured the sensor in with a felt pen, now its pretty balanced, dusk like and its on,

In windows media player, go to: Menu > Options > Keys (or buttons?) (last tab) Here you can assign a hardware button to toggle the screen on/off during playback, when using this option al buttons will be available to raise/lower volume, next/previous song.
If you also want to block all keys you could use a program called DeviceLock and assign it to a hardware button:

You could try deltaLock http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/deltalock.shtml - it says PPC2003, but it may work on 2002... Assigning a hardware button (I use the notes button, as I never use notes) to this program, and it turns off the screen and locks the buttons until a preset button configuration is pressed

Apart from being able to use a key assigned by Media Player itself, I've found that you can just press the power button and the device turns off (acording to the KeyLock settings in Control Panel). I've even had this work when streaming music over GPRS - I just press the power button, and the music stops for less than a second, then continues playing. I think that you'll get prompted for your password after the timeout though. This I can't remember.

Thanks both for answer : I run today with a WM5 device...
With my old ppc2002 device, i was able to switch off the display with a harware button IN Windows Media Player, but the password screen was not displayed after a certain delay... With WM5, i can toggle off the display, but after a few minutes (according to the password settings) my device light on, and display the password screen... What i would like to know, is ther any soft to prevent the password screen to pop-up, because my device is not idle... like a soft named Disable Password On External Power... Except that it's not for the external power... only the "turn off" function of media player !
Sorry - I can't help with WM5, as I'm still on 2003SE...
The "Backlight On" button, to the left of the volume slider at the front of the unit...Right now, it can only turn on the screen/display when the display is off (using a Dopod 900 with the latest Dopod 900 English ROM). Is there a way to set the button to "toggle" the screen/display between on and off instead of just turning the display on?
VJEschaton should do this.

Thanks. But I can't find where I can map the command to the "Backlight" button. It's not in Buttons from the Settings Panel.

Hi, I found this somewhere in this forum, it does it
Or you can edit the registry yourself (see other posts, i dont know how to)
hope that helps
Fantastic! It now showing in the Buttons list. Thanks.
Is there an application to shut down the screen? I mean a program (cab) or an exe file that just turns off the screen instead of using the Power key?
It could be cool to re-map one of the soft keys (using Advanced config) and create a soft key that shuts down the screen instead of having to go touch the unconfortable Power key.
Thank you.
you may want to take a look at POCKETSHIELD
umm...so i have some what of a similar request.
is it possible to use the windows default lock without enabling the password. that is when the screen turns off it auto locks (similar to S2U, however using the windows 6.5 lock screen)?
dont think the default windows lock autolocks..

You can map out a motion to shut of screen with .....this APP (G-Trigger)
If you want to lock it using the WM feature, use the Advanced Config program and set it up so that it auto locks the screen after a few seconds of not using it.
Pocketshield is not what I was looking for. I am looking for a small application that only turns off the screen. (instead of using and stressing the power key)
Is there an .exe file in Windows that makes the screen turn off?

I don't think windows contains one of those.
It's not hard to write, so I can whip up a little exe for you.
Do you want it to have the same effect as the power button, or to just turn the screen off but leave everything running as though the screen were on?
Something that may be off use:

Thank you! It could be nice to have a small exe file that just makes the screen goes off and keep everything else running.
My idea is to then re-map one of the soft keys and be able to turn off the screen by simply clicking on it instead of pressing the power key. It's simpler, faster (your fingers are near the screen, you dont have to move your hand and touch that weird power key on top), and you dont stress a key that could some day not work anymore because of heavy usage.
I tried with a program called Screen Toggle but it takes some seconds to turn the screen off. I think an exe file can be faster.
Thank you a lot!

Three little exes for you.
Names should be fairly self explanatory.
QuickReset performs a soft reset.
QuickScreenOff turns off the screen, nothing else
QuickPowerOff should emulate the power button
Thank you so much l3v5y! You are a genious!
Do you know if the Power off saves more battery than the screen off?
I am trying your programs now on my phone.

Power off will save more battery as it'll stop things running.
Screen off will leave everything running, so if you press a button the device will react, but the screen will be off.

It's fast because the code is:
Code:
// QuickScreenOff.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application.
//
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <pm.h>
int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[])
{
SetSystemPowerState(NULL, POWER_STATE_SUSPEND, POWER_FORCE);
return 0;
}
If it were slow, I'd be very worried!
Glad it's working for you
pls. delete. posted on wrong thread.
I find lockandoff to work well as it locks and turns off your screen. Just map soft key to the program and your set.
VJEschaton and mortscript can do the screen off/on thing and registry for the lock.

It's a bit more grey than that, just add a small 'run on wake' prog to the notification queue such as a mortscript vibrate script or something that writes to a log file, you'll hear/see a lot happening when the power is off. Anything in the notification queue will wake it up but leave screen off and buttons locked. The backlight is the biggest drain on power.

Most processes are stopped when the power button is hit.
Some service, some processes and the notification system and RIL etc are left running, but most applications are stopped.
Powering off will save more power (some devices do underclock when the power is off...), just it won't be that much more than saved by just turning the screen off.

This is an awesome application! And it is fast as well. Thank you.
I wonder if there is some tweak or program that does a selective key lock... Under "settings" there is just the option of locking all keys but I wonder if it could be possible to lock all keys except the round center enter key for example. (this way you can turn on the phone by just clicking this more accessible key on the Diamond)

Great little app!! It's been tested and works with WM 6.5.....
Does anyone know if an app exists that you turn on the backlight, and it will stay on until you turn it off?
If you go to settings ->System Tab ->Power ->Advanced Tab you will find "on battery power" and "on external power", both have timeouts ... if you uncheck them.. then the backlight will not go off unless you press the power button....hope this helps.......
Thanks, that did the trick. That was too easy.
