Ok so I was on CyanogenMod... it was the latest version according to the Cyanogen App in the Market. I was using TheGadgetPro video for the 'Most Effective HTC Hero ROM'. I messed up the Partition at first so I took out my SD Card. I re-did it and it worked. I put the ROM on and it was wrokin until it got to the Boot Loop (which was suppossed to happen)... It was loading at the Hero screen and kept restarting at that point. Then it would shut off as if the battery was dead. I kept it on the battery the entire night but it still did it. Now I contacted the guy and he said to go from TheDudesCupcake and work from there. I tried to get TheDudesCupcake and it's stuck on the G1 Logo Screen. I contacted some guy and he said it was the SPL. I updated that and then I tried to get TheDudesCupcake... now its stuck again.
Did you update the radio before the spl? If not you are bricked, no doubt about it.
Also you shouldn't take advice from random video sites and stuff, come here from now on.

The Radio was already updated.
Then just go into recovery and flash a non hero rom like cyan or something then start over.

just to let u know thegadgetpro does have some good tutorials on how to root and upgrade to g1..but his latest videos he is a total prick and noob.
he deleted my comment when i said things about "his fastest hero rom ever" which is jacxhero1.1 in his opinion. and i told him i recommend 1.6r2a.
but anyways he is just a kid.
i suggest repartitioning your card and redownload a hero rom.

You are not bricked.
sounds like your in boot loop if you had ext on partitioned sd, try this...
Boot into recovery home+power
Go to console ALT+X
In Phone Console: hit enter
mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
rm -rf /system/sd/*
reboot recovery
repair sd card partition
that formats your ext partiton to allow you to install new builds, hit wipe then install your rom.

REFORMAT YOUR SD CARD, REMAKE THE PARTITIONS, flash a cyanogen STABLE rom. see ifthat works. dont forget to wipe your ext3 too from console. and wipe your phone to wipe ext3, reboot into recovery, go to console and type this "
# mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (space) /system/sd
# rm -rf /system/sd/*
# reboot recovery
yes you DO need to add that * at the end of the second command. dont forget. reformat, wipe, wipe ext 3, put a cyanogen rom on there, and reboot. that always works for me

thanks buds

well like thegadgetpro has good tutorials on how to flash and root and all that..but! what he thinks is the best is not even right. first thing he said was jac 1.1 was the best...even tho 1.1 had missing sms problems.
basically its his roms choice and words. and btw i think its funny how he is trying to sell his g1 for such a high price. he called it "limited edition" lol all he did was order a white battery cover.
but anyways what image are you using?
since i am sure u have root.. i suggest getting 1.6r2a
drizzy just gave JAC a new hero dump,so JAc will be comin out with another rom, as far as drizzy releasing any new roms...well he has some kind of flu or sumthing so yea. follow his twitter.
load rom onto sd card. (rename to update if using recovery 1.3.1)
go to recovery, wipe ext, repair ext, factory wipe, then flash.
i think i sent you a detailed message on youtube. idk if ur the guy who is messaging me on youtube.
thanks for the quick reply,
well seeing as he is an experianced flasher ill go ahead and follow those 1.1 instructions, only not booting his choice (the jac1.1) but doing exaclty the same for the installation of the Jac1.6r2a. please stop me if im wrong...
btw, no im not rooted and yes i am a noob at flashing phones, thats why im using youtube vids to do this.
well, thanks again, and please reply just as fast so i can start working
edit
k started updating cupcake tot the 1.51 rooted version, just to experience rooting... still please tell me if i can follow that vid he made for the 1.1 jac fw xcept replacing it with 1.6r2a...
ps im am not that youtube guy

As a disclaimer, I have already searched and found some people with the same issue. What I haven't found is someone that arrived at this problem in the same way I did. I am scared ****less of bricking my phone (and hope I haven't already). So at this point, I am looking for some help to figure out my best course of action.
I recently updated to JF1.5 using his updater app, and everything worked. Today when I received my new SDcard, I started the process to get apps on my SD following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512743
I got as far as partitioning my card using the Apps2SD application as described, doing everything the tutorial says. I began the partition on my phone, and let it sit.....and sit, and sit. It sat frozen on the partitioning screen (the one with the slider to select the size) for almost an hour before i pulled the battery. I selected 1444mb for the ext2 after reading that it was not a good idea to go higher than 1500mb.
Now, as stated the phone boots to the G1 splash and goes nowhere. I am however still able to boot in recovery mode using Home+Power. Interestingly, it says at the top:
"Android system recovery utility
Build: JFv1.42"
Not sure if this means that 1.5 didn't install correctly or what, but that's what it says.
I have no idea what to do at this point, and am scared to go on without some candid advice. Sorry for the noobishness of my description - if there is anything else needed to give accurate advice please let me know. Also thanks in advance for any help I can get!
Same thing happened to me, you have to reflash. I tried using that method and it never worked for me, although I already had the partition. So reflash jf 1.51 and you are golden. BTW that text you see in recovery is the recovery image version, until you switch to another it will say that.

Thanks for the response. I'll have to find a way to get that image onto my SD card. I just bought a 16BG card and that was the card I was using when I ran into this problem.....oh wait a sec....
I'm assuming that the JF1.51 update.zip will still be on my old 1GB card from when I updated to JF1.51 via his updater app last week? If so then my life will be a lot easier, and I'll just swap back to that card, boot up in Recovery, flash from update.zip, and that should be it?
Just want to make sure before I put that old card back in and try to flash....
try wiping before you update? Also to mount your SDcard (if you need to) press alt-x in recovery (or in adb shell) and type
Code:
echo /dev/blockl/mmdblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
x2 that's what i had to do since my computer stopped reading sd cards.
Wipe then update.
I'd also recommend using CMv3.4 because the apps2sd is automated. It runs a2sd by itself
And with Cyanogen Recovery v1.2 you can move apps to sd card
First off, just want to thank everyone for the help. I successfully reflashed with jf1.51, but now I can't seem to sign in. I'm on the welcome screen, skipped the tutorial, entered my Gmail account and it sits for awhile trying to contact the server and then says there's a problem with the service or my sim card.
I know my sim card is provisioned for data, so not sure what's happening here...any ideas?
EDIT: Forgot I had to enter the Rogers APN settings, trying that now (Duhhh)

no no no! just rename CM3.4 to update.zip, enter recovery (Home+power) wipe (alt+w) and flash (alt+s) after it says installation successful, reboot (Home+back)
you might also want to download his recovery image 1.2 like suggested in the posts above me
place the recovery image on your sdcard, do not rename it and do
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.2.img

Thanks a lot, going to try that now with my 16GB card. And just to be clear (last questions in this thread, I PROMISE!), I should flash with CM3.4 and THEN install the recovery image, or vice versa?
Also, with CM3.4, will I have to go through to steps again to try to partition my card (which is where i ran into the problem from post #1), or is there some automatic process built into his super-de-duper ROM?
Thanks again to all for the speedy responses!!

Don't worry asking questions is good as long as they are intelligent. You should flash CM3.4 and then the recovery image, as that is what i did. However, i don't think it really matters. To be safe, flash CM3.4 and then the recovery image.
And to your question pertaining to partitioning your SDcard, you can try MarcusMaximus' Apps2SD2 app which formats the card for you here
Unzip it to your sdcard and install it using ASTRO file manager or some other file manager.
If you have adb working,
Code:
adb install AppstoSD2.apk
if you have other questions you can always contact me on AIM- roflzbrianxdd

I did not enter the su, I will try that now thanks. In the mean time I also performed this step:
13. My /system/sd is read only and/or didn't upgrade to ext3!
Your filesystem is probably corrupt. Boot into recovery and open a console. Run "mount /system" then "/system/bin/e2fsck /dev/block/mmcblk0p2" and fix your filesystem. Reboot.
from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518851
So I hope that didn't hurt anything...ill try with the su now. Thanks!
edit: out of curiosity, what does the "su" stand for? I feel if I know this it may help me to remember to enter it before any commands.
edit #2: does it stand for "Super User" to allow super user permissions? I gathered this after entering SU prompted me to allow superuser access
New recovery.img successfully installed! Thanks again to everyone that helped me with this.
I know I can transfer apps to SD easily from recovery now, but is there also a similar way to do it from the phone (or do they install to the SDcard by default now?)
Hey T3MP3ST... how did it go with upgrade to cm3.4
I had the same problem as you mentioned start of the post....
(stuck at g1, after partition).
this cm3.4 sounds like the solution for me to have apps2sd..
as it is in the ROM automatically, if i understood correctly.

Hey there, with the help from everyone in this thread, along with the partitioning instructions using Ubuntu (if you still need to partition your card) from tubaking182 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523648, It was great.
I just finished flashing with that ROM and then installing CM's recovery image (which is AWESOME...trackball selection, Apps2SD in one click)
I HIGHLY recommend it. If you have any problems, I'm sure you'll find most of the answers in this thread. If not, try PMing one of the helpful respondents, or I may be of SOME help with some minor questions or assurances.
Ok guys i am sorry to bother all of you but i made a stupid mistake. i think i didnt slept well.
So instead of wiping out my SD Card in recovery mode, something got into me to wipe the misc, recovery, data, cache and everything!
I have access to FASTBOOT and the info is as follows:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP100000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
version-main: 2.16.707.3
Is there any method i can unbrick my phone?
Goldcard.
Or setup ANDROIDSDK, put the custom recovery in the tools folder, open a command prompt there and type "fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img" and reflash your ROM.

thanks for the advice i will try it
hi it would seem that i can find a recovery image here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492 and install it.
i can get to home + power = clockwork mod recover v 2.5.0.1
i can install a zip from sdcard but after reboot it still shows the HTC Magic screen!
ok if i remember what i did wrongly this is what i did
in partitions i:
format boot
format system
format dat
format cache
format sdcard
format sd-ext
after this i can still get into recovery. can my phone be saved?
Yes it can... easy :0)
1) download CM 6.1 ROM from here: http://goo-inside.me/cm/dream_sapphire/stable/update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip
2) Also download the EBI1 kernel from here: http://briancrook.ca/android/cm-ports/bc-6.1.0-ebi1-signed.zip
3) Restart into recovery
4) wipe ALL <- important
5) flash the ROM
6) flash the EBI1 kernel
7) reboot and you should be OK.
thanks! i will give it a try.
hi i am able to boot into this rom. but this rom is not quite usable. it doesnt have a market place and all. what do i do with this rom?
Sorry, i forgot about the gapps :0)
gapps = google applications
Flash this from recovery:
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip
You should now have a fully funtional rom by CyanogenMod(CM)
Source: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_version#EBI1CM6
thanks so much for the help. one thing i notice is that the clorkwerk recovery couldnt be installed properly.
what is a more stable ROM that you should advise that i use for long term?
There are many options to chose from.
You got the 32A board - CPLD-12.
You can use the new radio / old radio combos to chose from many different roms.
But to stick to your original problem, i think the main problem was that you did not wipe correctly causing the new rom to fail.
Always remember to wipe when installing a new rom unless it known to be "upgradable" from earlier versions/roms.
I will read around the forums and have a look at the development section for other roms.
For the old radio combo which you currently have, i will dare to claim that the CM 6.1 is the best choice!
But again, i bet that there are many willing to dispute that postulation :0)
hi mumilover, i am sorry for the noob question but when u say wipe what do you mean specifically?
because i did a :
format boot
format system
format dat
format cache
format sdcard
format sd-ext
am i suppose to wipe that much things? i suppose system, cache and dat can wipe but should i format the boot and system?
yesterday i rooted, and backuped my phone with clockwork. installed CM7 and it worked perfectly fine. i also restored my backup just to make sure i could go back. reinstalled CM7 once more and have been using it all day. today i decided i like all my default apps better on stock MT4G. so when i went to do the restore the process seems to work fine and i reboot the device to run my Stock image, but my phone wont go past the mytouch 4g splash screen. i can instally CM7 still and run it, but i want to go back to stock. You have to revert back to older Recovery 2.5.1.2 or you can install the new 3.0.0.6 as normal CWM won't able to handle it. This same issue has been covered many times. Read the quote below to better understand if you still have problem well then post back ill help.
jggimi said:
you are using the wrong version of Recovery to install the new kernel. I'm guessing #2, because it's very common for people to assume a higher number is better, and use CWM Recovery 3.0.0.5 with Froyo-based ROMs and hose things up really well.
Restoration options, if you are using CWM 3.0.0.5:
a) Restore from the Nandroid backup you made before overlaying your kernel. Oh, yeah, you can't, you didn't make one, otherwise you'd have already done that and wouldn't have posted....
b) Flash the appropriate CWM Recovery (2.5.1.2 for Froyo-based ROMs) using adb from your PC. Reboot into it, find the kernel you wanted to use, and reinstall it.
c) Install a Gingerbread-based ROM, such as CM7.
Pick a,b, or c. If you have any specific questions, please ask.

Just for preventive measures of a follow up question. I did the same thing you did, and when you try to flash CM7 again (because that is basically your only option) you might get stuck on the boot screen. In the recovery screen, go to advanced and clear your davlik cache before you flash it. Worked fine after that.
I don't know how to flash different recoveries. So I'm going to stick with cm7 till its updated.

You will need flash_recovery file along with 3.0.0.6.img for this meth to work so I provided you with everything as you just download it and unzip them in root of your /sdcard so you will have standalone flash_recovery and recovery.img in it.
This might have been touched on before but i have read so many pages i cant seem to find it. i am still a noob and usually pretty good about figuring my problems outby reading thru the forums.
I have a mytouch4g/glacier and am stuck in recovery. When i try to flash a rom all i get is assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img"."boot") (status 7) installation aborted. E:cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E:cant open /cache/recovery/log
E:cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
I have installed several roms before and no problems. Wanted to try cyanogen 7 rc4 and it kept rebooting so i decided to go back to what i had and this is all i get... Please Help.
What recovery version are you using? What rom are you trying to go back to? Did you download CM using the phone it your computer.
Sounds like a bad download. Hard to say without more info though.

I have the same problem. Seems like an issue with clockwork.

that's what I'm thinking too. I used to be able to switch ROMs and restore nandroid backups, but after updating to the latest clockwork I got the "can't mount /cache" errors and can't fix it now.

If your recovery image is corrupt, you don't have to un-root an re-root again. Just download a new copy from here and flash it via terminal emulator.
I'll post instructions for anyone wondering how to flash via terminal.
First rename the downloaded file to "recovery.img", then follow this:
Code:
Copy recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
start the terminal app
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)

that could work if the phone booted up, but as of right now it doesn't boot and it won't since I had just wiped the phone when clockwork started acting up with the "can't mount /cache" errors. thanks for the suggestion though.

you lucky dog.... Mine does not want to restore with PD15IMG.zip, it fails on items 1-6, skips one more and freezes at updating the radio. Even tried with a freshly formatted sdcard.
Hey Guys,
Newb here. My head hurts from banging my head half the night trying to figure out what went wrong. It's probably something simple but I just can't figure it out. I'm now at the mercy of you guys.
Everything went fine until I added the rom and reboot all it does it stick at the Mytouch 4G splash screen no matter how long I let it sit. I have no problem getting back to recovery mode and I can also get into clockworkmod and tell it to boot the rom. Then it just hangs at splash screen

Here are my steps for getting a rom to load.
1.Hold volume down and power.
2.Boots into recovery
3.Choose Recovery which loads ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.4
4.Wipe data/factory reset (seems to work fine)
5.Wipe Cache (seems to work fine)
6.Wipe Dalvik Cache (Get E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext])(Dalvik Cache Wiped)
7.Install zip from SDCARD
8.choose zip from SDCARD (RoyalGiner_v3.0_final.zip)
9 installs fine (Install from sdcard complete)
10. reboot system now
11 Hangs at Tmobile Mytouch 4G splash screen
Any guiadance would be awesome.
Lots of thanks in advance!
Download the rom again from your computer and place it in your sdcard and wipe cache/data and try flashing again.

Your steps look perfectly fine. I would delete the zip and re-download it. You probably just have a bad download. If that doesn't work, try a different ROM and see if you get the same issue. You aren't getting any bad errors, so I am still sticking with bad download.
Make sure to check the MD5SUM.
What i do when i flash a new ROM is this
Download the ROM to the computer
Code:
c:\adb adb push <rom_name>.zip /mnt/sdcard
it will kick out a reading that it pushed so many Kb in so many seconds
Code:
c:\adb adb shell
# md5sum /mnt/sdcard/<rom_name>.zip
it will kick out the MD5SUM of that .zip
Then i will copy the md5SUM from on the CMD prompt then "crtl &f " find the MD5SUM on the page that i got the ROM from. To make sure they 100% match.
then
Code:
# reboot recovery
then from there i do a factory reset and wipe the Dalvik cache. Then flash the ROM & G/APPS (if needed)
Thanks for the tips guys. I've tried multiple roms and all result in the same stuck splash screen. I guess tonight I will install the SDK stuff and give adp a try and see what I can come up with. I guess I missed something when doing the visionary/Gfree root. I followed this guys videos Mackster248 off youtube. Everything seemed to work but I guess something is wrong somewhere lol...

Just in the future, make sure that you check the md5sum of the download before flashing it so you will save time if its a corrupted download. And definatly make a backup with rom manager before wiping/flashing new roms.
I really appreicate the help guys. Yesterday I was able to download PD15IMG.zip recovery file and when I booted into recovery mode it detected it reverted everything back to square besides the S-OFF. Im going to attempt to root it again at a later date. I think to learn alittle more Im going to take my old mytouch g3 and mess with it.
Again Thanks
