id be willing to pay someone or a dev to make 3 apps for our android vogue builds. since we cant root our phones or use superuser mode, we really need these made for us.
1.) increase or hack the audiopara for louder "in call" volume.
2.) a screenshot app to take photos of our phones home screens.
3.) a system / browser cache cleaner similar to "clear me".
im shocked no one has attempted to make anything like this for us yet. it's still a shame our phones cannot be rooted so we can use certain apps off of the market!
does anybody else agree or can think of any other apps they would like to see? id try to make them but im no good at writing code and what not.
And I wouldn't mind an app that turns on the GPS function, and uploads the tracks to google maps. Like TrackMe for WinMobile
And what he said
fixxxer2008: You can clear your browser cache by going into
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Browser, and click on Clear Cache
Hope that helped. As for everything else... *shrug*

i know about that trick but i think we need an app to clear all of the cache of the phone. clear me is for root only and that sucks, same with screenshot. i really think you guys need to increase the in call phone volume much more than it is. id like to think android based phones are much louder and i know there is a hack that can be performed on the audiopara but im not sure if it would work on your builds? these are some of the limitations and reason i don't use android much.

My in call volume is quiet loud - could it be your hardware? Is anybody else experiencing this? I personally woldn't really use a screenshot app but I can see it being useful for some. I'm sure one will show up on the market - honestly i'd rather see the vogue devs continuing to improve the base builds and porting other builds.

My volume's good enough. I think WinMo can go slightly louder, but it might just be my imagination. Not to the point where I think it's an issue.
And yeah... don't really care about screenshots too much... If I were into theming, then maybe, but I think our android builds look just fine to me. Much better than any WinMo skins I've seen
I actually agree with his first argument, there are times when talking that i have to ask people to speak up because its not loud enough. Which is every single call, lol
For me (Verizon model) in call volume is quite loud, and starts to distort on full volume. I agree about the other two, but I'm pretty happy with the port overall.
As for other apps, for android in general a visual task switcher/manager could be cool, like the Pre or the winmo Task Facade app. Otherwise, I'm pretty satisfied with the Vogue port, without an accelerometer or a compass there's not much we're missing.
Edit: I changed my housing, and I'm pretty sure this included the front speaker, so that might be why it's louder than yours.

i can add the audio hack to any of my roms, though they seem fine to me. let me know by pm if one of my builds is too quiet and I'll turn it up.

We can root the phone once we start running the OS off the phone's main memory, and can use a read-write filesystem. The phone's technically "rooted" already, it's just a case of using a read-only filesystem for the system.img.
This has been answered already, in fact, in a thread that you started a few weeks ago.
As to why there's a SU program there, I'm not 100% sure...
is anybody working on at least getting usb mass storage to work?

Here's the scenario: My 5 year old daughter wants to watch a movie on my Hero. I bring up Madagascar 2 and hand her the phone. 2 minutes later she says the movie stopped because she accidentally touched or swiped the screen.
Is there a way to disable the touchscreen so that whatever program is active doesn't get interrupted? Maybe something like Proximity Sensor, but without having to use the sensor. Or some type of key button combination like Home+Search+Volume Down.
is this a serious question? no you cannot disable the touchscreen.

Yes, it's a serious question. I saw this posted in a WinMo forum:
"If it's a custom app you could get the app to set the sensitivity of the screen in the registry to zero. That should do it. I've not been able to find anything existing though. Not even on Codeproject, which usually has unusual stuff like that. I suspect the Compact Framework doesn't support it so the registry is your best bet."
I'm sure it's possible...just out of my realm. Hell, if someone can make the End Call button disappear to avoid Face Hang Ups, I'm sure someone else could make this happen.

android doesn't have a registry like winmo, ive never heard of anybody being able to disable the touchscreen, nor want to do it in the first place. sorry....
Good idea, but would probably be most practical to have built into a video player app. An Android VLC player would make my year...maybe after DIVX starts hitting more Android handsets this year more versatile players will show up.
the problem with media players is the have to run in a java VM instead of nativley.

Android has a Native development kit available so you can run native C++ code. There is a topic over at the VLC site talking about getting someone to do this - but its REALLY difficult to do it. I thought about it, but I have 0 experience with Media software.
It's my understanding the NDK is a joke a this point. The guys at Coreplayer have been trying to get a full functioning media player for months.

Probably going to have to end up doing what I did with my kid: Tell her if she touches the phone the movie will end...then take it away for the day. Try again the next day. After a day or two she'll get the point. We also found a good spot on a table and in the car to set the phone and told the rugrat not to touch it if he wanted to see the movie. My kid's 8, so that worked. Not sure if you'll have the same results.
Not quite what you're looking I know, but...probably the best you'll get: Train the kid to leave it alone

That is the only way I see it as possible. Android has several running levels for programs. I don't think it is possible for a backgrounded app to take over any functionality of the touchscreen.
Someone would have to write a custom player that doesn't respond to the screen.
For example there is a toddler game app (can't remember the name) that you can only exit by touching a combination of points on the screen. Writing this idea into a kid's player would be a cool app idea.
Any devs out there wanna give this a go?
I would love to be able to rotate my phone in any direction and have the screen flip like on my omnia... I know sense doesn't flip to landscape, thats not a prob, what I really want is to be able to flip the phone upside down and still use it as the correct rotation.
Reason I want to be able to do this is so I can use my phone in the cup holder of my car again, and to do this it must be upside down because of the charger placement... (same as on my Omnia)
Seems a pretty simple request, would be nice if it could auto run and run in the background without using up to much resources to.
If anyone is able to do this, would be awesome.
Thanks
Seconded ... but
I too would like to be able to rotate at least the other way; when showing off the Incredible, people rotate to landscape the other way and nothing happens, so they figure it doesn't rotate. I have to say "no turn it the other way" but it would be great to just not have to think about it.
BUT ... regarding the OP ... I simply took a dremel to the dash mount I bought (the beanbag, since California law doesn't allow sticking to the window in the middle). Carved out enough for a charger, and am done with it
I'd also like to see this. Anyone know the reasoning behind only allowing landscape mode by rotating to the left, and not the right? Even my old BB storm could handle rotation in both directions.
Agreed. This would be useful.

I would think it's because the majority of the world is right-handed and by rotating to the left, the optical track button is on the right side. I could complain because I'm left-handed, but hey at least my phone still has a signal when I hold it in my left hand, unlike other phones out there
This is an option in the cyanogen rom available in the rom manager. If you can look past the few bugs in the rom you can enjoy the 360 degree rotation you are looking for.

miris v17.6 rom

since i want to keep android for an everyday build, im already starting to personalize it and installing apps and stuff. so my main question is once a new update for my build comes out, how can i update it without loosing all my customizations, contacts and such?
another question is that when in sleep mode, my HD2 seems to have a very very faint dark green tint to the screen which moves up the screen like a loading bar-ish. anyone know whats up with this?
also is there any way to make the ear piece speaker any louder? when in silence i can hear fine but when walking or busy area i can hardly hear anything.
thanks in advance.
these are common problems for everyone. the speaker thing is my biggest problem but im sure theyre working on it.
Just dont forget, this whole thing is only about a week old, updates will come, be patient.
as far as keeping your customization, i know you can keep your apps and contacts, but as far as settings im not so sure.

How on earth can I make a "calls only" profile on my phone? I have tried half a dozen apps and its laughable how such an open phone is unable to achieve what should be a basic feature.
As you would know google merged the notification and ringtone volume as one in ICS which is the most dumb **** move google could have made. Now most of the profile apps on the playstore can do nothing about this.
I tried profile scheduler and it can only handle the sms app notification volume. I tried elixir 2 and even though it says that it can unlink notification and ring volume but it does not work for me. Then I finally found an app that actually managed to do it! But guess what? It has a horrible bug of randomly deactivating my data connection and I have to restart my phone. I really dont know what its doing to cause that.
Now I could just manually set the notification tone to silent but actually that doesnt work either since many apps and services have their own notification tone settings which cannot be overrided by the system setting.
So does ANYONE have a workable solution for me? My phone is rooted but I aint installing a custom rom just for this. Samsung touchwiz phones still have separate volumes guess samsung wasnt as stupid as google.
I dont think I'll be buying a nexus phone next if I cant find a solution to this soon. Really sad such a petty issue has to ruin it.

Hmm you're out of luck if the apps don't cut it for you. If you're rooted then flash a ROM....you are missing out on truly useful features not present on stock. If you're not into flashing on principle, get over it if you don't flash due to uncertainty then read up on it, super simple.
Some top ROMS are Slim Bean, Rascarlo, plus many others.
Good luck

Custom roms got you covered though, don't know of any without unlinked volumes.
Why not flash a custom rom, you have a nexus, I don't think it gets any easier to flash a rom on phone. People make these roms and make features that don't and won't exist on a stock rom.
I am using baked black bean 6. It has the option to unlink call and notification volumes. Also it supports profiles. I think it's worth trying a custom ROM when you need additional features.

Yes thats actually the one that worked but had the data connection bug. I have emailed the dev and he has no idea why that would happen.
On the nexus S I will install custom rom if I am unable to find a decent solution. However I dont know if I'll want to buy the nexus 4 knowing that I would need custom rom for basic functionality so I am gonna try to make this work out without custom rom.
I agree this is dumbest thing Google has done in Android recently. On gingerbread, i had always rocked stock rooted, or something close like pete's bugless beast. On a fundamental level they need to change this, but I think that it's probably motivated from their desire to unify the tablet and phone platforms.
I'm on CM10 now, and have been since ics linked the volumes. It irritates me to no end that every month or so, my phone slows to a crawl and i have to do a full wipe and re-flash. Never had to do this on stock gb. But that's a whole different issue.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app
yup, android is very flexible in regards to flashing
you truly are missing out on a lot of other features. and you necessarily have to give up a lot of space/speed for it, some roms are dedicated to keeping things as much stock as possible, just because of that, they mostly contain the "stock" rom with exactly those features you want and in other cases you can just go with a rooted/deodexed rom and flash just those mods that you need. in most cases, the latter has almost no effect on performance
Why don't you go flash a custom rom? Sorry but Google has millions of customers and it can't please everyone. There's a very fast way to fix all of this, and that is just simply flashing a custom rom. These roms are very stable and nothing is going to happen. Since you're already rooted why don't you give it a shot and then come back here and complain if it doesn't work?
Hi, My friend has the Note 7 Global Lavender version, like me, he is 82 years old and is having some trouble with answering calls because of the not-so-easy to use green phone slider. Even I sometimes have problem with this one.
So can someone help me with an alternative and a small guide on how to install it(if not like other Apps) and set it as default, so when call comes in that is the one he see? There is no need to change anything else.
Please don't refer me to google, the problem is not that there aren't any Apps but that there are too many of them, and I can't try them all until i find one without a slider but where you just push the green button to answer call - He is starting to regret he bought this phone, as it is not so friendly for old people.
I hope someone here can help.

Thank you, and yes it looks like what I wanted though it is a very sophisticated app with a lot more functions than I wanted, maybe too much - it is still for an elderly man. Also looks like there have been some complaints that you get more spam calls after you use Truecaller and that they upload your data to their servers for everyone to see - not for me!
I like to hear other options if there are some Preferebly close to the stock dialer, but without slide and only push or an option to set it yourself. And not one that takes advantage of people.
Thank you

Thank you for your answer, I will look at it but would prefer to avoid slide since that is the problem. The Note 7 has slide, but its not easy to use not even for me and I have had many phones with "slide dialer".
Finding "push button" dialer has proven to be some of a challenge, also when you take in mind it should be one not stealing your data
Hope someone can come up with a solution for this
Guess not, but i found this one and it might do the trick, testing next week when my friend available: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luckyme.dadapp2
Update: forget the app above - it works just after install but doesn't do anything when pushing the Answer button. After that it never pop up anymore . Uninstalled it!
If you can root the device and install google dialer framework , you can set the google phone app which has better slider : you just need to slide up, holding the phone icon isn't necessary. And custom roms can also be easier for him as compared to miui.
anyways, i wonder if you could find a feature in miui that makes the incoming calls screen always in 'heads up' mode. That way he just needs to touch the accept or reject. I m not sure if miui provides that

I'm sorry and tank you for your input, but I'm not rooting his phone to solve this - too many things can go wrong because you have to unlock bootloader and then install TWRP first before you can root - or so the guide here on XDA states.
I hope for a different solution
