preventing browsing over edge - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

is there anyway to prevent the phone from accidentally browsing over edge? im in US and theres no 3g, so i only want to use interenet when within a wifi hotspot. so is there a setting that i can change to disable edge browsing?

Run NoData software and prevent the use of the Internet. Simple as that.

is there any way to turn off edge browsing on the stock phone with out dling a new software?

i dont think there is a proper solution without using software such as nodata. disabling it in the phone settings can be overridden by some software i think.
nodata is a very compact and simple program, free too. just has a list of your connections and you can toggle them between enabled and disabled.
ive used it since i first got my td2 and have never had the slightest problem with it

would it be equivalent to taking out your sim card? cannot recieive calls, sms, etc?
can you link me the software download? and how you install it? tahnks.

HSPDA and 3G auto switch on specific programs

i just had an idea if anyone has ever heard of something like this. i was wondering since touchflo can be enables and disables upon specific program titles... i was wondering if it would be possible to have a program to auto switch the 3G and HSPDA network upon specific programs as well.
for example: if internet explore is closed the 3G and HSPDA signal would be off, and the device would run off edge to conserve battery, and if internet explore is opened then it would switch the 3G and HSPDA signal on for internet browsing.
of course this can be implemented for specifc programs not just only for internet explore.
i was wondering has anyone ever heard of this before? or could possibly develope this?

well we wanna have a way to map the Gprs or 3G connection to a button.
So when i press a hard or softbutton i can turn gprs or 3G on or of.
That way we dont have to start PIE to start the gprs or 3g connection and then manually close the gprs or 3g connection.
I already found numoures programs or ways to bind wifi on off to a button or shortcut.
Never found a link registry or app to turn on or off by a hard or soft button or a .lnk 3g or gprs
Sorry did i just hijack your topic?

annybody? knows a way

Data Connection question

I have noticed my Xperia has turned on the data connection a few times without me requesting it to. I was not doing anything, so hopefuly i will not be charged (i don't have any web usage in my contract).
Is there anything i can install that will password protect the data connection or at least stop it acciedently turning on?
Had the same with my Prophet - in the end I installed SPB GPRS Monitor which gave me an idea of how much it used (could also set it to warn you when it went over limits, cut connection I think, etc)
Next to that, whenever I wanted to disable it (e.g. roaming, etc) I changed the networks used (settings-->connections-->select networks) to something without settings, that way programs that connected automatically didn't find the right settings and couldn't connect (for when the phone was in my pocket etc).
Not sure if there is an app available now to PW protect the data connection - been on an unlimited plan for a while now (internet/rss feeds etc).
I had a similar issue until my data plan became active.
There's a free program on the modaco website called nodata that allows you to turn off/on the data connections when needed. It worked very well whilst I was using it.
... here's the link NoData Utility (Modaco)

How to disable GPRS?

Hi guys,
with my touch HD, im on pay as you go on Orange, so the data connection fees are quite high. I prefer to use wifi but sometimes i accidentally update weather/email or run opera and then it costs me. is there any way i can fully disable this? on solution would be to disable the cellular radio but that's hardly practical.
thanks for any help.
Use the Modaco NoData app. It lets you toggle your data - if you toggle it off, then apps can't auto-connect (you'll get an error if you haven't got an active Wi-Fi connection to the Internet)

testing it now
wow, thanks for that. it workds really well and i reccommend it to anyone with the same problem. the only downside is that u have to sign up to the website to get it.

Can I configure 8125 to ONLY use WiFi for data?

I'm thinking of giving it to my son to play with but I want the device to say Internet not available if he isn't near a WiFi hotspot.
Under settings there is a Cingular GPRS, Cingular CSD (which I think is long ago disabled) and Auto pick.
Maybe I should flash a newer ROM since its stock but in any event how can I completely disable the internet through AT&T?
I don't know any "correct" way to do this, but if you delete all the GPRS connection settings, it will not be able to do it, unless under a WiFi
Cheers
there is a little app, called mmm "nodata" i think, cant take a look because my wiz is not working at the moment, but that app would disable all data connections
edit: here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1325870
if u call ATT u can tell them to disable data for his line only which will stop u from incurring and extra usage charges

How to make wifi the default option to connect instead of gprs?

How do I disable the phone from auto connecting to gprs? I tried testing it by launching opera without switching on wifi. The phone still connects through gprs although I turn data connection off. It will turn data connection on by itself. Even when I switch wifi on and want it to connect through wifi instead, it is still connecting through gprs. How do i solve this?
When wifi is "connected" (not only "on"), it uses wifi, no dataconnection.
If you really don't want a dataconnection, use something like NoData...
i tried NoData but it's not working. i'm using official htc wm6.5 rom.
Sorry I cannot be more precise because I don't use it anymore, but I remember there was an option to block data connection in HDTweak. Is that you want? Block dataconnection permanently? If so, you could alternatively delete your mobile operator connection in Settings/Connections. If anyone knows the registry changes involved in this, please post them so that I can make a .cab, I need it when roaming.
try MWLongLife! It's magic
this program is developed for saving battrey life by controlling 3G/2G network and data usage
you can set each program which need data access by 3G, WiFi, USB, etc.
Also, force to use Wifi rather than gprs if it's available.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I tried installing nodata again and it worked this time.
for those interested there's also a cab to disable push internet completely (think that was the origin of your problem).

Yes please... I was about to post the same issue. I think the precedence in WM6.5 of using mobile wireless over WiFi is the wrong way around if the WiFi signal is strong. In my house, my WiFi is strong everywhere but 3G comes and goes. It's darn annoying to get the message about "No connectivity" when I know for sure there is a very good WiFi signal.
Cheers, Rob.
PS. Just had it whilst writing this email - "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device..."
It's "WM" not "MW".

That's much better!! thanks fighter7139, gonna try right now!
