i have a weird problem with my mini sd card. Every time i format, there is always two files that come up, autorun and svchost. The text in autorun is:
[autorun]
shell=verb
open=svchost.exe
action=Open folder to view files
shell\open=Open
icon=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll,4
no matter what i do, it keeps coming up. Even done a hard reset but still same problem.
Noticed those files in sd card couple days ago.
also the only thing so far i noticed it affects is that you cannot open removable device from my computer, says it cannot open it, but it opens when you go thru start->run.
anyone else have this problem and know a solution
thanks
Do you format the card with your computer? The svchost file with autorun.exe are often used by viruses on a Windows Computer. Try to scan your pc. Maybe this solves the problem.

the other day i added about 30 songs to my memory card in mp3 format and now all of the sudden, my windows media player wont lrecogize the card to add the songs to the library... ive tried restarting, soft resetting, putting it in and taking it out. nothing is working. any help?
I have the same issue on my TyTN...
really frustrating but I found a workaround: browse the storage and delete the hidden folder MSMETADATA, then try to update media player library.
You won't find such folder using the file explorer provided with WM5: you must use an enhanced file explorer such as Resco one in order to view hidden and system files.
This was a fixed inanother subject and it worked for me, as I had the same problem as you.[/quote]
I just came across the same tip but you can use the built-in file explorer - just set it to show all files and the folder will appear.
Cool, works for me, but what is at fault here? Before I learned of this trick, when i went to update library without deleting this folder it took the tytn an age to add files, in the meantime all free memory on my microsd was filled. The only way to reclaim this space was to back up everything i wanted to keep, format the card then copy everything back on.??
Workaround
I have been looking into this for about 3 weeks and I am now 95% sure it is because the storage card is full when WMPlayer tries to write its DRM / Metadata to the card. Deleting the MSMETADATA folder is only part of the fix because it frees up space but it will continue to fail. It is still a bug and HTC should fix it up but the workaround it is to leave some space on the card, i.e. don't fill it full of music. I am trialling WMplayer 11 Beta on the PC and it has an option to leave some space free when syncing. Seems to be working fine. For me, this 'feature' is one of the most frustrating things about the device so if you are suffering too then I hope this helps
i dont think it is a strorage issue because it happend to me i have a 1gb micrisd card i used up about 300 to 400mb and it did the same to me when i went to add the files to the lib it found the songs but wouldnt add them it only added the ones from the internal hdd i deled every thing off the card and put it back on i havent had a prob with is since but glad to know if it does happen againg i can just del that folder
this might even happen your card has some error.
it happened to me last time, when i bought first my hermes and tried to install the WM5Storage. Theres a huge incompatibility and my microSD developed some FAT errors causing read/write issues. Once i removed WM5Storage and freshly formatted (make sure you backup) the microSD, thinks ran smoothly.
just a bit of info for you dont know if its just mine but when i had that problem and i tryed adding files to the lib it took ages so i removed the sd card and put it back it and i got a this card is write protected message
so maybe the prob could be caused by removing the card while the phone it trying to accsess it
yer its just happened to my tytn again am going to take a more detailed look at the folder as deleting it does seem to work there must be away create a fix ill let you all know if i find any thing
Guys,
Am in need of some desperate help.
Up until tonight all was well with the HD2.
However, for some unknown reason every time I now launch Opera it changes the name of my Storage Card to Storage Card 2 which you then can not enter in Resco Explorer and in place creates a new folder named Storage Card and places 2 folders inside:-
OperaCache (with 264 files within)
Inbox.numbers (and inside this folder Mail Attachements which is empty).
What this means is because it has changed the name of the Storage Card I can't access any of my installed applications/photos/videos/music...nothing.
If you then soft-reset, as it is rebooting it is looking for items in the content of Storage Card but Storage Card was renamed and the consequence is the phone doesn't boot up correctly.
The only 'tempory remedy' (until I next use Opera) is when the Phone has finished rebooting, I launch Resco Explorer, Rename Storage Card to Storage Card 3 and again soft-reset.
This time when the Phone reboots Storage Card 2 (the real Storage Card) is renamed back to it's original name of Storage Card and the Phone boots up normally.
All seems well until I then load Opera again ........ which then goes through the whole process over again in renaming Storage Card and creating another.. etc. etc.
Help... help... help.
This is more than annoying as it is effecting my work and here we are talking patient care which is of paramount importance to me.
Note:
I have tried rolling back the system to a previous Backup point using Sprite Backup but no matter which Restore file I select once the system reboots to this restore point and I again launch Opera it does the same thing over again.
I got the same, it was because I had changed the cache location to the SD Card, but when I had the device plugged in via USB in Disk Mode it stops the phone seeing the SD Card.
I just moved the cache back to the phone, and the problem goes away!

Are you talking about Cache Directory4 in the Opera:Config?
Edited:
Many thanks statplayer. Initial findings show this may have cured the problem.
I'll be doing some testing later tomorrow when I get up (bed time now).
The only thing I am totally baffled about is I did the Cache Directory switch to Storage Card quite some time back.
Since then I have used Opera and the rest of the system every day without any problems.
What's made it all of a sudden decide it wanted to react today and not on the day I first changed the Cache area???????
Obviously this I would love to know.
Anyway, if this has cured the problem I owe you a debt of thanks.
Will report back tomorrow.
In the meantime ~ Guys if you can offer any further advice on why it's not played up before, please chip in.

I had exactly the same issue in the situation specified regarding changing the Opera cache location to the storage card, accessing Opera with the USB plugged in (not activesync mode), and disconnecting the USB card then causing the phone to call the ACTUAL SD card "Storage Card 2" because Opera had already stolen the name.
It did cause a panick at first!

What I don't though is that I did this tweak quite some time back and until yesterday all was well.
I connect via USB daily and the same with Opera. Not once did I receive any errors.
Something triggered this all off and I would be grateful to whoever who can explain any reason why yesterday it all went 'pear-shaped' and played up.
Thanks Guys.

I have been trying to remove files from my SD-card by connecting my phone to my computer and remove files from the SD. So I delete the files, disconnect my phone and everything is ok but when I use AndExplorer I see that the files are still there. So I delete them with AndExplorer instead and everything is fine, but when I connect my phone to the computer again nothing has changed. I don't get any error when writing/reading to the SD but it doesn't seem to have any effect when I unmount and mount my phone again.
I have also been noticing some problems when starting the camera when it tries to "prepare sd" and save pictures wich I haven't had before. I think these problems started after my phone fell on the floor. Could it have been that the SD-card ejected it self and got corrupt?
How do I solve this? Should I buy a new SD or is there a way to fix this?
I'm running VanillaEclair 2.0.1 NAS if that's any help.
Okay, I found a similar thread on androidcommunity.

I will try to format the card.
Hi at all,
everytime I put files on the sd card, I have to reboot Android because without ES File Explorer won't show the new files I put on the memory card.
Even "Refresh" in ES File Explorer doesn't helo. Is there any other way?
Thanks!
Wifi sync is your friend

This is a well documented problem. I think it's to do with the way that android sees the SD card with booting from it but don't quote me on that. As far as I know, the best ways round it are:
1. Use dropbox. Free 2gb account and can be very useful.
2. FTP. This is my personal favourite. SwiFTP is a free FTP server for android and there are many free ftp clients for PC/Mac/Linux available. I use FileZilla (opensource ftp client).
3. I believe that if you unmount your SD card before copying files over, then remount however I don't find it particularly successful.
There are other ways like shared folders, email files etc but the top 2 above are the best for me. I use dropbox for small files and one-offs or if I'm copying a lot of stuff and don't want to reboot to winmo, then FTP.
It's also worth noting that if you are a windows user then winamp can sync music over wifi providing you install the winamp android client. However both winamp for windows and android are free.
Hope this helps..
enjoy
Ok, thank you. But that's bad.
The problem is not only that I want to put files through USB on it, it happens also when I use CurrentWidget for example that wants to create a log file on the sd card. Hmm...
I use MDJ Froyo HD 4.6, and there are practically no problems when using mass storage option... After unplugging the files are on the SD card... Only sometimes have to reboot, but not very often...
Why so complicated? Use "Multi Mount SD Card" (it´s free) to connect to PC and you will see new files without rebooting.

If you're now saying that applications are unable to create files on the SD then there is something wrong with your card. I'd recommend copying everything off it and reformatting it (use disk management to format it, and use the largest cluster size available).
Some builds suffer from this problem and some don't.
Im using HD2ONE 0.3.6 and it's working fine. File explorer detects the new files after transferring via USB Cable
I love this build paired up with the CM6.1.1 Gingerbread Theme

I've heard many people complain about not being able to see files after copying them across, but I've never heard anyone say that an app could not make a file on the sd card.
I am having the same exact problem. I was transferring files from this PC to my phone and everything was going fine (it refreshes right away after disconnect) then suddenly, my SD Card got corrupted and I was forced to reformat. I used the same ROM (Darkstone's SUPERAM FROYO) and after that, it won't sync anymore. I even tried removing it and using the HD2ONE (mentioned above) ROM and it was the same. I went home, copied everything from my SD backup from the other PC and same symptoms.
I thought I was missing a sync app or something but no. I looked into each of the folders I copied and most of them are blank.
I hope someone can save us!
I find it easiest and safest to just use ES Explorer to access the network shares and copy files wirelessly. The way our data.img is mounted, giving the pc full access to the sdcard is just not a good move. There was good reason when you connected to windows' sync software it disables your phone from accessing the card.
Even though the hd2one build seems to handle it correctly I almost never do it anymore unless it's for big files. It saves the wear and tear on the usb port anyway.
I had that "problem" too, but for me it was easy to solve. Here is the whole procedure:
So, i want some files to put on my sdcard, i plug in the usb cable and select the option "use as a storage", dont check the "use allways" or "dont ask again" (or whatever this is called on your machine). Now the computer "see" the phone and i put my files on it. In this moment i cant browse the sdcard on my hd2, because its reserved for windows now, (thats why currentwidget cant write onto it, same if you have a wallpaper in some "wallpaper" folder on sd).
Now, when i am done, usually i unplug the usb cable for some seconds and then i plug it in again and choose the option "charge only" and the sdcard gets mounted in android like it should and all my new imported files are visible.
Its the same on WinMo, if you choose there the "HDD" option, you cant browse the sdcard on the mobile. Only if you choose "use active sync"(slower) you are able to browse the sdcard.
cheers
ps: the quickest way for me now is to use wifi and shared folders
This is a disaster, I am using W7 64 and a Lumia 620. When I use the desktop app as soon as I open it I get an error that it has stopped responding. If I go into Windows explorer the phone is shown in there however it doesn't show the SD card only the phone. The phone itself shows the contents of my SD card so I have no way of putting anything on my SD card.
I can't edit any of the music etc on the SD card and the meta data is all totally wrong for some reason.
I have uninstalled the desktop app and reinstalled but it made no difference. Anyone else having this issue?
Get an SD card reader and it should do the job
I know this isn't the answer u were looking 4, but it is the easiest solution. The other 1 is to reinstall windows on ur computer.
Check your directories in zune settings. My WP7 phone does not have a SD card, but I was having trouble syncing and it was because I had directories in my setup that no longer existed. I forget where though. Don't have zune on my work PC, but if i remember when I get home I will check and let you know.
