Hey all! I have a 32A Roger's Magic with MyHero .1.0 rom on it. This rom doesn't come with the crummy old google keyboard, only the HTC one. When I long tap in an input box and pick 'select input method', my choices are Touch Input, iWnn IME, and Touch input chinese.
The problem is I keep running into apps that won't let you input numbers from the HTC keyboard. The two big ones for me are ConnectBot and A Online Radio.
With connect bot, when you are ssh'ed into a server you Cannot type in any numbers. Hitting the key to switch to numbers does nothing. Long holding the number key inputs a letter and the number.
How can I add in the old keyboard to switch to when using these problematic apps?
Update: I got up on the connectbot site and it looks like everyone with the HTC_IME keyborad experiences this. Just need to get the old kb in there to remedy it.

I have just upgraded to the new official WM 6.1 ROM, and have noticed that before, when I would type a new text message and begin typing in the name of one of my contacts in the "To:" box, their name and number would come up so i could just choose it without having to type out their full name. Now I can not do that anymore, I am not sure if it is after installing the touch (original not diamond) keyboard because i never tried text messaging before installing it. Is there a way to get this feature back, because it is much easier than having to click menu add recipient.
Also, for the touch keyboard, is there a way to choose the full qwerty keyboard always, because whenever i try to make a new text message, I can only get the phone pad like keyboard (three letters per block) or the qwerty with two letters per block, is there a way to always get the full qwerty?

It has been my experience that this is due to the Touch Keyboard. I had that same problem, along with characters not typing correctly when I used the hardware keyboard, that made me un-install it from my Sprint Mogul.
Also, it is a known problem with the Touch Keyboard that it will not let you select the full QWERTY keyboard. I know there is a fix for it by using an altered Touch Keyboard, but when I tried the altered one it also had the same problems as the original, so I un-installed that one as well. My advice to you would be to un-install the Touch Keyboard and use something else like PCM Keyboard, that is the one I use most.
Another thing, it might take quite a long time for the Touch Keyboard to un-install. I know I had to leave my phone sit for about 10-15 minutes with the wait cursor spinning around in the Remove Programs setting before it finally was deleted.
I hope this helps!
its not a keyboard problem thats how 6.1 is my phone does the same thing regardless of what keyboard im using
it seems to be a problem with the touch keypad, as after uninstalling it, I am able to select my contacts for a text message as soon as I begin typing their name. Thanks for the help.
Is there any way to use the old keyboard on the Desire? I dont like the Desires stock keyboard, its difficult to type using it. I was fine with the HTC Magic, but with the Hero and this i still make mistakes often, 6 months later! grrrr
I was also trying to get Swype onto it but it says its installed but its not there...
i put swype on a friend's incredible yesterday, shouldn't be a problem. you probably just haven't selected it, if you installed it. long press on a text input field, and choose input method when the window pops up. just choose swype.

Hy Guys,
Is there a possibility to get the default Keyboard installed on the Desire? I really like this keyboard and would like to have it back without installing a Non-Sense ROM. Can anyone help me? By the way. It has to be a german layout.
If you mean the default black android keyboard it's already on your desire. Just click in whatever text input field so that your keyboard pops up. Then long-press the input field. Now a menu will popup in which you can choose "Input Method". If you select that you can switch between all installed keyboards on your phone. The stock desire rom has the HTC and default Android keyboards installed.
If I do this I only get the method Touch Input. If I go to the settings I also just get the settings for Touch Input, which is the HTC Keyboard. Did I make a mistake?
Hi,
I originally uses the stock rom (localized for hong kong).
The difference between this variant and the European version is that the "sym" button is also the key for swapping between chinese and english input method when using hardware keyboard.
When I flash to Virtuous 0.9, the sym button is used as ".com" function so I'm not able to change the input method.
I've also tried the european swapping method of "alt+spacebar" but failed.
Can anyone suggest a mod for that? Thanks and sorry for my poor English!
I can provide a dump for the hong kong rom if it helps.
go into setting refered for keyboards and select touch input..find the submenu for hardware keyboard and select the 2 languages you want (in your case english and chinese)..close everything and go to any space that you can type, to test (e.g sms) then start typing..probably the default language to type would be english...now hit the magnifying lense button which is near the bottom right corner of the hardware keyboard (looks like a search button)..try typing , and you will see that the language has changed
now i dunno if this is a bug or snything else, but if you REtry to switch the same way back to english it seems to stuck..you can just tap anywhere in the text and then try to type and everything is great...really,not an important issue..Sorry if i am not being very detailed right now but i am currently on cm , not virtuous, so i just told you what i remember from heart..
Give me feedback if this worked for you or not and i can go for a quick nandroid to see it out myself..
Enjoy Spring Festival mate
Thank you for the detailed reply!
In the hardware keyboard settings, I could only find "Default language" and "Prediction".
The "default language" has three options, "English", "倉頡" and "拼音" respectively, where the last two are Chinese input methods.
It just pop out a search menu when i pressed the magnifying button.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Okay..some things i might forgot..make sure android keyboard is un-ticked and you are using the htc ime..also did you try typing into an area that you are supposed to type text in, or like in browser url are, sms contact name input field , email address input area?if you use the lense button in one of these it is mapped to do other things, like check ur contact list, or your email address favourites..
try a notepad..or a reply in this forum for example..or an sms typing area.
Sorry but there's no option for "android keyboard" in sense-based roms.
I've tried the magnifying glass in sms typing area. It just pops out the "search message" screen.
While the address bar comes out when I tried to press the button when replying forum messages.
Appreciate your help very much! Thank you!
bump for advice.... thanks!
Hey,
There could be an other way. You could try to get your language change button back.
In /system/usr/keylayout you'll find the layouts of the keyboard. If you have a copy/backup of your original keyboard layout, you could just use that one instead.
I havent tried it myself, but there is a change to TAB. But I don't know which value it should be in your case.
Mybe it helps you, good luck

I just activated a Blackberry Priv. However, i now notice that the lovely hardware keyboard is QWERTZ layout instead of QWERTY.
How do you switch the language/layout of the hardware keyboard? I cant find any information on this with google - only information on other blackberry devices. I don't get it, since I have the keyboard set to US English in the settings panel. There doesn't seem to be any other option regarding the layout?

My keyboard is QWERTY as it should be.
1) Did you update Blackberry apps from the Play store? If blackberry apps don't show in play store, then just search for "blackberry" in the play store and all needed apps will appear and update button will show.
If you have already done the first step, then go to settings>language & input>blackberry keyboard settings>input languages and here might be an update to the specific language.
I've updated the blackberry software, but still no options seem to effect the hardware keyboard. I can change the layout of the software keyboard, but it only seems to apply to the software keyboard.

By the way, do you see the on-screen keyboard when physical one is open?
No, I don't see software keyboard on screen when the hardware keyboard is out. Am I supposed to? That seems like it would be undesirable. I see just three suggested words along the bottom of the screen.
any luck with this? i would love to change freom qwerty to qwertz and have actuallz physically changed the keyboard already... but the setting to change it is missing
Same here. Just bought BlackBerry Priv with psysical qwertz and found that there is no tweak keys for that. I would like to change these letters virtualy, to press z and get y and opposite. How to do this. Help!
This will help solving it, install and swap y and z https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=innerlife.keyboard.multilanguagekeymapredefiner

Thanks, this worked! But now the number 7 is mapped to the Z key (alt + z), and alt + y brings out parenthesis. It's not a huge issue, but it seems there is not way remap alt + y so it will output 7 as it is in the original layout.
Also it seems there is no autocorrect available at all when using this keyboard? I was relying on autocorrect to put the right accents in Spanish, I can't seem to be able to enable this again even if I switch the language to Spanish.
In the end I created a custom QWERTZ to QWERTY keyboard for AnySoftKeyboard. It solves the issue of having Y mapped to parenthesis and Z to number 7 I mentioned above.
I made them for both English and Spanish (the Spanish one lets you write "ñ" by pressing "n" three times).
I also made a custom build of AnySoftKeyboard that make predictions work with the Key2 hardware keyboard. But if you just want the remapping, it works the fine with the official AnySoftKeyboard, just predictions don't work unless you use the on-screen keyboard.
Only tested with the BB Key2.

Hello raymccoy,
i tryed your workaround, but its not working on my Key2. I installt the Anysoftkeyboad from Your attachments and your languages apks. But my physical Keyboard does not change the layout. Can you tell me the steps to install?
Thanks
Marc
it does not work for me either. it does not remap anything, furthermore it crashes
I have to correct myself! it works, but it's necessary to install the last version of the app (from Playstore) to prevent it from crashing... AND it's necessary to show the virtual keyboard, otherwise physical keyboard remapping will not take place. Thankfully, the virtual keyboard can be made really tinyn so it will not be too invasive on the screen (see screenshot). Tested on BB Key2.
