Don't need to root? I don't want to screw up my phone if I just drag the update into my sd card.

I know this might have been posted and probably has but i simply am not getting it to pull up on the search function. I am upgrading my root G1's Micro Sd from a 2gb to a 8gb or possibly 16gb as I tend to want to keep a lot of music on it. If I upgrade the SD do i simply partition it to Fat32 and then copy my files over or does something else need to be done? I simply do not want to screw all my stuff up b/c i am not thinking about some aspect.
Thanks in advance for any and all help as i am just trying to be safe. Do not want to screw up my root/phone or anything with something like this.
Have you done the apps to sdcard? If not then yeah you can just copy the contents of the old card over to the new one and use it.
No i have not done Apps2SD yet as it was unneeded as of so far. I have also wondered about the safety of such. If the phone were on and the SD card were to come out i would imagine some damage could be done. Once i get the bigger SD then i might do it.
Hey guys, im new to the rooting / ROM thing but think i might want to root my phone. If i do how can i backup my sd card if something messes up? can i copy the whole sd card onto my computer and if something happens just format it, recopy everything and reboot normaly? or is there another way i need to back stuff up. i want to root but i just want to be sure i can revert / fix it if i mess something up.
Thanks
Jhart
yea copying everything to your comp from your sd card will be a good way to assure you wouldnt loose anything
I would like to know if the-ebook-reader.com/nook-color-cm7.html's method will boot off an SD card. And will it end up like youtube.com/watch?v=8OEli8s0UMk&feature=player_embedded this? I'm new to this stuff, and would love an explanation. Thanks in advance.
Short answer: yes.
Maybe I'm reading your question wrong, but what makes you think any of the info in those links is fake?
Or are you just asking whether he is running CM7 off the SD card (which he clearly states in the link that he is so that you can leave the internal as "stock")?
Long answer: The Nook will start to boot up and immediately checks for an SD card. If one is present and IF it has been prepared correctly, it will then boot off the card instead of its internal ROM.
Otherwise, it just uses the SD (if present) to store files for user programs (media, apps, etc.)
This guy is walking you thru preparing the SD card to boot into CM7.
If you want to use the Nook the way God (Barnes & Noble) intended, just take out the SD card and boot that way (or put in a "regular" SD card for more book and media storage).
so....It WILL turn out like the video? I just wanna make sure it will look/function like the video >.>
Yes. He stated off with his own wallpaper, but he shows the CM7 wallpaper halfway thru. You can choose whatever you want it's Android after all.
Thanks so much
I guys just wondering is there a way to change the file path for the private mode so i can store my pictures/videos on the sd card instead of the internal phone memory?
Not possible until now.

No. There is no way.
Trying to find an answer before I buy this phone. Is there a non-rooting option that will let me download music/save photos/store movies straight to a microsd card? If not, which rom do you recommend?
I have never rooted before btw.

Everything works better with root. Root just means that you have permission to modify system settings and files.
Kitkat, the latest version of the OS tightened security and no longer allows third party apps to freely write files anywhere on your SD card. Now they have to stick to their own directory on the card. This breaks or at least restricts what older apps can do.
But you should be able to find a newer app that does the things you asked about.. as long as the app has been updated to the new method of keeping all of it's files in one directory tree.
If you have root, you could change or remove those SD card restrictions.
