Hello i've a question about the gps module in the diamond 2.
I sometimes use rungps on my mountainbike but when i use the button above on the hardware to turn the screen off, also my gps turns off. How can i fix this problem? Is there a solution to use gps in stand by mode or something?
I've this phone for a short time so... when people do have tips for other handy software, you're welcome

Just use this Tool to switch your screen off.
Weird. I use Rungps as well, but no problem so far of losing signal after pressing the button. It happens with TomTom; if I press the button, the signal is lost.

Hi,
I like moto-travelling and i have 2 questions...
1) Is posible to reduce the power of the bluetooth?? because in 2 hours de batery is down.
2) Is posible to turn off the screen without power off the pda?? I would like to have tom tom working with my gps bluetooth but i dont need to see the screen, because i only need to hear the voice...
Thanksss
If you turn off the backlight you'll accomplish most of the advantage you'd gain by turning the screen off. I get a few hours of use on my XDAI witha GPS when I turn the backlight off.
Ok, thanks, i'll try it
there is an application out there called screenoff you can find it at handango i think
Regards
found this on emule works like a treat assign it to a button on your xda then itll turn the screen off and just press power button to turn back on.
works fine on ppc2002/3 great lil program just copy to your xda and try out

Anyone know how to stop an accidental clicks or other screen presses from taking place when I've got the phone to my face during a call?
Si.
I use a freeware app called Screen Off, download it here:
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...latformId=2&N=96806&productId=125781&R=125781
Basically when I make a call or answer a call I have screen off assigned to a button, so I can then press the button to turn the screen off. To turn the screen back, just press the power on button.\
Hope this helps,
Or maybe you could simply turn PDA off with a single power button press...and when you're finished simply turn it on. Remember that the radio is always running (unless you hold the power button for 5s).
My screen turns off automatically after about 20 seconds when on a call - haven't set it to do this - in fact can't even find an option - it just seems to be the default setting. The only way to turn it back on is to press the green or red buttons, or just flick the volume control either way - works for me. (O2 XDA Mini s)

Macrinus - thx that works a treat.
That's weird, your screen turning off after 20 seconds, mine turns off as configured in "Turn backlight after..." and "Turn off device...".

Yeah, it is weird - bit annoying, but sensible really to save the power - Perhaps its just the device turning off then, with the phone still running .... comes back to life with a flick of the volume though - touching the screen won't re-activate it. Will have to time it a bit more closely !

Radio on screen off
I too turn the device off when I'm on a call (although I only discovered I could without ending the call this morning). Otherwise, my ear activates the Start menu.
Doh!
if only the backlight is turned off, the screen WILL still react to face contact!
I understand that either the device (less the phone side!) via power button, or the screen must be turned off via an utility.
It may exist, but I know no proggie able to lock the touchscreen without turning it off!
(pitty, my axim X50v can lock the screen without turning it off via a Hw sliding button9
How can I turn off my Universal?
When I press the power button it simply goes to sleep.
anyone?
you can turn off the phone, BT, wifi etc and then put it to sleep...
is there no way to turn it off?
I am missing something?
I don't know what you expect it to do. If I switch flight mode on and push the power button then I think that it is switched off. The only other way to completely shut it off, is by removing the battery.
Hope this has helped

Guys, I've tried to make a power off switch app for non-OMAP phones (ie not the Wizard)
Have a look here:

But to answer your question straightforwardly.... No! you can't switch of the Universal as such... there is no hardware Power On/Off option... silly I know
philtech44 - did you try VJEschaton?

My problem really is that from time to time screen turs off/freezes because of faulty connector tape between it and main unit (as far as I know). for the time being I can't fix it so I have to live with it. When this happens all I have to do is to press standby twice, so it is not very hard, except for the fact that when I put Wizard into standby, wifi disconnects, and I have to wait for it to connect again. Now this is very annoying! My question is whether it is possible to disable this, so that wifi stays on even when I press standby, maybe a simple registry hack or dedicated application... any ideas?
I have a problem with my Touch HD in the way that everytime the screen shuts down the GPS seems to shut down. Regardless if I Push the power button or if I let it shut down by itself.
For example if I'm recording a track it will make a straight line from the point where the screen shuts down to the point where I turn it on.
I'm using Garmin Mobile XT and Kartex (a software from the Swedish lantmäteriet).
Have been using both softwares on my old E-ten Glofiish X800 and it worked fine.

I think the problem is that its not the screen that turns off, but your device is going into suspend mode.
You will need an application which prevents the suspend mode and turns just the display off.
Is there a way to keep the GPS on in suspend mode?
Is there a way to change the registry so the GPS would not shut down in suspend mode? If not, what application would you recommend to use to only turn of display but not put the device in the suspend mode?

Install MobileMagic from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449654
On the options tab, choose GPS while power off.
I was just about to suggest the same thing. Mobile Magic allow for GPS to work while in suspended mode. There is even a feature that automatically calls upon what ever GPS app you have to start automatically when GPS signals are detected. Pretty cool not to mention a slue of other features this nifty app has.
Thanks gadgetuk437 and band27! Great app although a little bit too "robust" as I don't need the screen rotation & all other features. I guess I will only start it when I need to use GPS.

I am in the same boat using GPS Watch which provides a track which can be outputted to Google Earth
Is there a registry hack that will allow the GPS to continue to be operated when powered off?
Thanks
Thank you gadgetuk437 and band27 for your advice but I don´t seem to get MobileMagic to work.
I have installed it and I have choosen autostart, start hidden and GPS power when power off. Have done nothing else.
MobileMagic autostarts hidden but doesn't prevent the GPS from turning off.
I have been using screenoff but that app doesn't really work either.
I raised the question at HTC as well and got the answer that this is something that is done by design in order to reduce the battery consumption.
I just don't understand why, If I didn't want to waste power I would of course close the GPS app before i turning of the screen.
Yeah, same here. After some testing I realized Mobilemagic's function doesn't really work. Even thought I also have the function to keep the GPS on selected my Garmin Mobile XT still looses the GPS fix as soon as the device goes into standby

I'm away to do the same...
I have Garmin Mobile XT with the Snowranger map sets for tracking my snowboarding runs. I also want to leave the phone in my pocket all day and track where I've been!
I tried it a couple of weeks ago with my Diamond whilst running. I had the music player running and Garmin tracking me - and it kept my log file (which I imported to google earth) over my whole 45min run.
