Tonight, after (yet another) freeze coming out of sleep my 6700 dropped off of the network and wouldn't reconnect. Tried soft and hard resets and couldn't get it to connect. Then I noticed that the date said Dec. 11th, 2077. I figured that I had either time traveled (I'll keep everyone up to date with hot stock tips if I start to have precog flashes) or my phone had a really hard day. I pulled my SD and the battery and then restarted it. This time it came back with March 20th, 2082 and still no radio. I let it sit and it finally connected after about 20 minutes and shortly after corrected the time.
I've tried restarting it a couple of times and every time it connects immediately after restart and gives the correct time. Anyone run into this before? If so was it temporary or was it a sign of impending failure for phone?
Any info appreciated.

Wasn't aware that Verizon finally got around to naming the phone, have just always used this forum since they are the same phone. I'll hop over and check the ppcgeeks forum out.
Thanks.

Apache is what HTC named the XV6700. The XV6800 is the mogul or Titan. The xv6700 and xv6800 are not the same phone is many ways. So I am guessing you own a XV6800 and not the old XV6700.

Exactly, I completely had a brain fart. I have the XV6800. The problem got better overnight (surprisingly it was running faster than ever with better connections) but now is showing that the radio is on and that it's connected to the voice/data network but anytime I try to make a call it immediately throws a "call lost" even though it's showing 4 bars. My today page is also showing "No Connection" for data even though the upper indicator shows EVDO. I think I'm about 20 minutes away from bringing this puppy in and exercising my insurance option for the first time in 16 years.
Chris
Insurance isn't necessary. If you have the 5.99 insurance it also has an extended warranty. Just call 611 option 3 for tech support and explain. I had a new phone sent free yesterday. Don't pay for a non physical damaged phone ever.

I dont understand why everyone doesn't use the free warranty. They seem to like to pay for a replacement.

Hi all,
After spending 2 days with my vario my dreams of a half-decent smartphone are shattered.
I've got a C500 which hasnt really caused me any problems in over a year, now 2 days after having a vario i'm almost pulling my hair out.. can this phone possibly have been released in such a bad state or is it just mine?
For starters it crashes, not now and then, but like it's a hobby of the vario's, i dont think i can leave it for an hour, come back and find it hasn't hung in some form.
Sometimes i have to do a soft reset, sometimes, i can press the power button, get the screen to light up but can't do anything. Sometimes I get icons but when I click them i'm told the shortcut doesnt exist.
Ooh another thing it seems to like doing is randomly going into flight mode, and one really good crash was when i called it and the source phone could hear the ringing but the vario was just sitting there doing nothing.
So is it just mine or is this the most unstable phone the UK has ever seen? Is it worth me asking for a replacement, or just flashing the k-jam/qtek rom over the t-mobile one? Is there a way to backup my t-mobile rom and flash it back should i find the qtek/kjam rom does the same?
I've tried hard-resetting then cancelling all the t-mobile gubbins that loads from extended rom, but that didnt make any diference.
Any advice gratefully appreciated
Thanks
Personally, I'd say get T-Mobile to replace it! Unless you've installed a buggy piece of 3rd party software (but if you did, you wouldn't on here complaining about the phone you'd be complaining about the software, right?).
I also have an MDA Vario. I haven't touched the Extended_ROM (was going to, had a look and decided it was running fine so don't mess with it).
It's solid as a rock. As per a thread on howardforums asking how many times per day have I soft-resetted the phone and my answer was an average of zero.
I hard reset it on the day I bought it (after installing GPRS Monitor which knackers the backlight turning back on after sleep) and took the battery out after T-Mobile decided to disconnect me from their network (at their support line's request).
Anyway, it's on 24/7, never needs a reset of any kind, gets mobile emails via ActiveSync and is generally a wonderful piece of kit!
List what apps you've installed (even if they're T-Mobile supplied ones from CD) since buying the phone as there may be something buggy there. If not, definitely get T-mobile to replace it as it's certainly not a crap model (mine is absolutely fantastic).
Thanks Andy,
I've literally not installed anything, i'm just about to install pocketcommander but that will be the first thing i've actually installed. I've hard reset the phone this morning and it's already hung once on me (
I'll give tmob a call and see if they can send me another out today or something
Yeah, then you've definitely got a knackered phone. They should replace it (how long have you had it) without problems.
Hope you enjoy the replacement, they really are a great bit of kit
Well just had my first ever dealings with tmobile supoprt and it's as bad as the phone
They say because my contract/phone is only 3 days old i need to go back to the people i bought the phone off to get a replacement, problem is they'l want me to send the whole boxed thing uip and all the box etc is at home since i work away during the week
That's got to be faulty, like others have said.
WHen I bought mine, (T-Mobile shop in Leeds), I was told that if it was faulty within the first 28 days, there'd be a straight replacement issued immediately.
Don't accept anything less.
For what it's worth, I always try to be exceptionally pleasant when returning things rather than going in "all guns blazing"; it gets results a lot more often than the "I know my rights" approach. Of course, when it all comes down to it, the "i know my rights" approach might be necessary, but hopefully it shouldn't be.
The phone is superb, so stick with it even tho it is a bit of hassle for you.
good luck!
hi there no problems with my vario either. seems to work fine. no soft/ hard resets needed so far. have had it for 10 days. only thing is after the xteended rom instals there is a file called canned text in words which opens up in a crazy language. does not go on hard resets. but does not cause a problem either. any ideas on what this file is. have othar vario users noticed this file. please help.

may not be relevant to your problem, but if skype is installed on yours from the hard reset install, it may be worth removing, on the k-jam as soon as i removed skype, reseting stopped happening
OK, I know that may look like a dumb question (and maybe it is!!!)
I have just unlocked my Vario 2 using the "Pof" method with both Sim and SuperCID.
Problem is, my phone needs to be sent back (long story - but basically I am getting a replacement Vario 3). Now obviously I am concerned they will tell me "sorry youve been playing with your phone sonny - its no longer under warrenty", so need to get it back to factory settings if I can.
I appreciate a hard reset will basically wipe any files I have, contacts and settings etc, but will this remove the unlocks that have been done? ie It really does go back to factory settings - or do these unlocks stay on there?
I have been searching the forum and WIKI, but not found the solution. I did think I would need to install a T-Mobile Rom - but all I could find was a hungarian version - which whilst in English, would probably look worse than as I currently have it!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT:
For the record, if it makes any difference:
ROM Version 1.21.110.3
Rom Date 06/19/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Herm300 IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.0lipro
a hard reset simply formats the internal drive on the phone and resets it to the factory settings.
generally t mobile wont bother looking at things like that, i unlocked my vario, dropped it, it smashed, they just replaced it after trying to repair it.
A few people have flashed new roms and bricked it, sent it back, tmobile are none the wiser, they are probably unaware people to this to their handsets!
we are all just stupid customers as far as they are concerned!
personally i wouldnt worry about it!

OK thanks for that. So I assume a hard reset will not over write anything regarding the bootloader radio change and unlocks? I appreciated that it resets the OS - hence the question.
I agree that they probably wouldnt in most cases look into the phone and check, but they have put a note on my account about "charging if not found faulty".
The problem I have been getting is missing calls - even if I am in a strong signal area. I actually work at Waterloo Railway station - and I would doubt too many places would get a better signal! An incoming call is made, my phone doesnt ring and the caller gets a single ring, then nothing. From what I can now gather, this may be to do with the cell shaking hands but not really being connected. ie the phone/cell are duping each other. This appears to be a 3G issue (so is probably likely to still be there on exchange.) Now the silly thing I have noticed; the phone seemed fine until I got web'n'walk put back on and the problem happens once I have been online. Strangely at the moment, I dont think the problem is persisiting (ie Im not aware of missing calls - though of course thats difficult to quantify unless someone tells me!)
Anyway - I have a feeling they will be looking more into this phone as this replacement will be my 5th! (The previous had similar problems with calls being made or incoming that would just fall over before being answered and the signal being completely lost when it was happening. Slightly different this time - but sound related!)
So will there be a way to put it back to being locked and the correct bootloader etc being shown?
Many thanks
I had the same problem with rejected and dropped calls, tmobile couldnt care less from what i learned or are unaware of the problem! try this
1. lock the phone to gsm only (this solved it pretty much straight away)
2) remove the voicemail from your account
3) If you are using gprs data, you will rarely get a phone call through, and by using it i mean looking at web pages or having programs update in the background.
Downgrading the bootloader is way above my head so i wouldnt like to advise.
As regard to relocking the phone to the network, i dont think thats possible, in any event, why would they check the simlock if the phone is having problems with calls!
If its your fifth handset, you should be looking at changing the model at least because thats ridiculous.
It sounds like a network issue rather than a handset problem!

Yeh, the problems on this phone didnt start until I began using the net again. They did suggest switching off 3G, but since I bought the phone specifically on the promise of a fast connection and HSPDA speeds, that really is an unacceptable solution! I appreciate that signal varies etc - but if a central location where I work isnt good enough, then T-Mobile really shouldnt be advertising themselves as a 3G network!
As it happens, voicemail was switched off on the account. It got put back on again a week ago - and sods law - things now seem to be working, though internet speeds are still very slow.

When I phoned, I was just looking to get a repair, but it was them that offered a Vario 3 which I accepted. It was agreed for them to be sending the set to me (last Thursday) but all that arrived was a grey bag to send my old one back. I spoke with them at great length again last night and suggested a straight courier swap so I wasn't without a phone. They went through to their repair department, who have now flatly refused the phone change - despite it being agreed already!
Anyway I spoke to another manager who went through my "book" of notes and quoted the sale of goods act and merchandisable quality thing and he has agreed they really have to address this. He is phoning me back today and he did come across as helpful and reasonable. (The second one in 2 weeks - must be a record!!!)
I do agree though, that this issue is likely to be the network and not the phone. I would really love to use O2 as at work and home I get 100% coverage and never had any problems at all - but I ain't paying their data rates! Maybe 3 will be ok - but again, when I had them a few years back, at home they were dire so never bothered again. But one thing is pretty certain, in 5 months time, T-Mobile will be history unless they make amends in a big way and these problems become non existant.
Thanks for your help..... its appreciated.
So I consider myself fairly tech savvy. I'm running dcd's 3.3.4 firmware on a Mogul I bought used on eBay. Suffice it to say that returning it to the eBay company is not an option.
The device will randomly freeze, not awaken from its sleeping state. When it's sleeping, I don't receive missed call notifications or any texts I would have received.
When I do a soft reset, the device doesn't boot most of the time. Most of the time it will freeze on the green Windows 6.1 intro screen, but sometimes before that, and sometimes after that. I haven't come across a scenario that allows me to boot every time, but the one with which I have had most success is removing the battery, waiting 20 seconds, putting it back in, then booting up with the MicroSD card ejected.
I noticed that the wifi on the device doesn't work at all, it never has. I don't know if it's related to the other issues, but it's definitely worth mentioning.
I had the same issues (only worse) BEFORE the dcd rom flash, so I'm certain that the issue is hardware related. Given that this is the case, is there anything I can do? I'm willing to try anything...
I'm on Sprint btw.
I read somewhere that Sprint will do a replacement on a non-insured phone for $55 using their Self Service Solutions: http://www.nextel.com/en/services/service_repair/self_service_solutions.shtml
Can anyone confirm/deny this?
wouldnt hurt to try, worst thing they can say is no. im on sprint myself and i also got my mogul from ebay. I dont have the problems you have been having, mine does freeze every now and then but its few and far inbetween. Have you tried a different rom?
Yes, my HTC Touch Pro arrived today, supposedly because they ran out of Moguls to send out. I'm OK with them upgrading my phone for the measly $55 I was going to pay for the same phone fixed
I'll let you know how it goes, ensuring they really only charge me the $55.

just confirm please, when you say the phone crashes, do you mean it actually crashes, or the screen becomes unresponsive? If it is the screen that stops responding, check you dont have 'increased tap time' tweak installed either as a cab or as part of bsbtweaks, because this causes unresponsive screen on call screen.

no litteraly the phone crashes the hardware buttons dont responding, you have to wait a while for it to work. i usally keep pressing the end key to try to stop dialing out but it has a mind of its own. useually the phone starts to dial outafter 5mins or so when the phone is locked
nice. if it were me, id give it a chance at a hard reset, then straight back to where it came from.
(course, it slightly possibly could be the sim card, know anyone on same network you can borrow a sim from?
yea... no one can believe it.... its almost impossible.... but i did... and at the time i wanted to shoot myself... but now i use it to make people shocked

No point because it's not the cause of the problem. I had this once about a week after i got my leo. At the time i was running the phone as delivered and it was hanging (not crashing. this is a "hang" in the traditional PC sense) all over the place. This particular situation is the same.
What's happening is the processor is becoming hot and is down clocking itself to allow it to cool. At the same time Sense is asking for a crap load of memory transfers all while your trying to make a call. The phone decides that Sense is more important than the user and stops responding to you until it has cleared it's instruction queue. This is why if you leave it for a while (10 minutes or so) the phone will suddenly start responding again. That is unless Sense gets an instruction timeout and actually does crash (had that a few times).
I cured it by installing Leocpuspeed and disabling the autoscalling and setting the clock speed to 998Mhz. It allows the processor to plough through it's queue faster giving it more free time to respond to the user. I've also noticed that the cooked 6.5.5 roms that have newer versions of sense also respond better OTB.
I can't explain it dialing by on it's own though. A few possibilities here. It could be someone dicking about with a paired bluetooth headset all the way to a virus picked up from a website or a poorly sourced app. I couldn't say for sure because the OP is being pretty vague tbf.

I've worked for a company where one of our customers had a £855.00 phone call... (single call)
They really shouldn't let drunk people call 0906 numbers and then forget to hang up the phone until lunchtime the next day.
£1.50 x 570minutes (about 9.5 hours) = £855 ooops
Thing is the call they made was to our content line so we got the £640 of it (we did pay them it back as a good-will gesture minus the item cost and an administrative cost, although the cheeky sod tried to blame our system for forcing his telephone to stay connected to it... moron lol)
I would also speak to your operator and tell them you've had a fault which has led to a hefty bill, my daughter had a similiar issue with vodafone and infairness they refunded the full amount once we proved her phone had an issue at the vodafone store, it was a phone provided by vodafone and they were really good about it her bill was £280 for a month, they refunded the full difference to the normal £25 contract...
They might not refund it all but they might refund part of the cost as its obviously not your fault...

thank you so much for the info same sorta situation. i got me phone from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk reason is that they sell the phones unlocked and unbranded. phoned up vodafone they said have to see retaier or manufacter. phoned up retaier and they said to phone htc.
so phoned htc up 5 times today and could not get connected to anyone. just sent them an email explaing the fault and the video. hopefull they will give me a call and i hope that i can claim the money back....
now i have to play the waiting game.
yeah, call your service provider, if the large bill was due to a defect in their phone you should not be responsible to pay for it. If the phone does become unresponsive again and you can't hang up you can always soft reset or pull the battery and sim.
I just watched the video and read all the comments. From what you have said i think you may just struggle to get the refund. the reasons are thus:
You said the phone was not sold to you by your operator. this therefore means they have no obligation to refund any charges caused by a faulty device but i'll bet if you send your sister and get her to ask really nice, flutter the eyelids a little and maybe flash some skin you my get somewhere.
Next don't send the phone back. Waste of time!! from the video i can assure you that is a software fault (and one that would be very difficult to replicate in normal everyday usage) and the new phone will have the same problem. I suggest you look at using a cooked 6.5.5 rom with sense 2.5.2016 where the issue has been fixed. If the phone does ever need to be replaced then you can just flash a stock rom back on to it.
I actually got this for the first time yesterday when trying to make a call, the phone just locked up completely, just pulled the battery and re-booted and been fine since,

thanks for this, dude. I've been having hanging oroblems for ages now and will give this a go this evening. I was convinced it was a sensd problem as the Windows menu srill seemed to respond during the freeze.
i have kinda had the phonecall thing, although I've always been able to catch it by whipping the battery out or mashing the end button as it tries to connect.
ok guys i bought a sprint touch (vogue) phone about a 3 months ago when i started having problems with my older phone. well i finally decided to activate this new vogue phone and i cannot get good reception. Now compared to my old sonyo this phone stays searching for service almost all day. While the old sonyo would have three bars of signal. i started doing some searching online and found out that these phones were bad for signal reception. After all that searching i want to unlock my phone and install the newest rom, radio rom, and see if it will help my phone. i tried to return to the store but they will only give me 25 dollars for the phone and that made me very mad. At the moment it does not work and i have really nothing to loose if the phone becomes a brick.
i have downloaded the NuVogue and NSFan roms plus a lot of cabs. What i do understand completely is do i need to install a radio rom or is there one already in the Roms. if there is no radio rom in these roms then which one is recommended?
thanks
If you bought a sprint phone then it probably has a sprint stock radio. Does it show the sprint logo at boot?

You can try reflashing a radio or rom with a radio, but I doubt it will help much... have you EVER been able to call with that phone? How did you provision it? If it's a new vogue from sprint(?) why won't they give you a full refund or a warranty replacement?
i cannot return it because i did not buy it from sprint store. i bought it from my friend but he did not tell me he was having problems with the phone. what should i do.
i do not know what else to do?
i really like the phone but i cannot get any reception, that is my problem. i do not use it for text, music, or online. i just need it for business.
any suggestions would be great.
thanks
Have you tried *228?(or whatever the Sprint equivalent is)

So, the device stays looking for signal? Does it ever get at least 1 bar of signal? I have an idea, which may sound a bit far fetched, but it may be the case. At one point in time, I remember trying to replace the E$N of my device with an MEID (turned into pseudo E$N). Needless to say, this cannot be done, and my device stayed looking for service forever. I have a feeling that maybe the E$N was changed and it was either input wrong, or simply someone tried to play stupid and replaced it with a pE$N.
Check for the E$N behind the battery and compare it to the one in the system (you can check this by going into PST, you don't even need the MSL as you are not editing the programing parameters of the device).
ok i took a look at the ESN numbers in back of the phone and i got this:
************
then i went to settings and looked in device information i get this:
*************
Does this mean anything?

Unless you mistyped the 36A152D number, it looks like it is not complete.
Decimal conversion from the one you gave me (without the dash, of course) should give you a Hex number that is totally different.
My guess is that your friend tried to change the E$N of the device and did it wrong/used an invalid serial. If you put an invalid E$N, the phone will stay searching for networks forever, which is what is happening with your device. You have to change the ESN back to the original (the one behind the battery), but if it was changed, I have a feeling it is probably black-listed by Sprint. I would call Sprint and ask if the device with the number you gave me can be activated on their network.
BTW, I edited the numbers you gave me to protect your device's serial.
ok i took a look again at the numbers and i did miss type. there is suppose to be an 8 between the 5 and 2.
ok so then i need to go back to sprint? What should i tell them? Do i tell them to put me back to the other EsN like the one on my phone?

Don't even talk to them about changing ESN. Remember that this is an illegal practice in most countries around the world (IMEI, MEID, and ESN for those who use other serial numbers). I have a feeling that you are better off trying to reactivate your older phone and try to get the guy who sold it to give you your money back.
i think you are right.
i will do that first.
thanks guys.
