Hey everyone,
Since the Android platform is so open to developers, is it simple to port the HTC Sense UI over to say the Motorola Droid? I know the Motorola is not what this forums is about, but is the UI something that can be extracted and put together for the Droid? I love the Sense, but those specs of the Droid really have caught my eye.
Let me know.
im not soo sure of this but that Motorola Droid looks bloody good! Really nice device, huge screen and it is one of the few Droid phones around that has a flash (LED i know but better than none)
is there going to be gsm version of droid?

Yes. There have been several images on sites showing it over the last couple of days.

i doubt it anytime soon...first the droid would need to be rooted first then devs can start buildin on it.
I guess DROID will have a better version of MotoBlur. And it can be better then Sense.... This is just my guess.
Actually since it is a Google Experience device it will NOT have motoblur on it.

Why "Google Experience device" does not have MotoBlur ?
Is Moto Cliq not "Google Experience device"?
I understand, "Google Experiance (enabled) device" means it has Google's Closed-Source Applications / LIbraries installed, includes Android Market access, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Google sync, etc.
.... Am I wrong?

-----
Somehow, Android 2.0 includes MotoBlur's framework in it.
Basic idea of MotoBlur is to integrate phone and social network sites.
This is what Android 2.0 got, and 1.6 did not have at all.
I am thinking Android 2.0 is a better integration of Android 1.6 and MotoBlur.
I dont know how possible this is going to be.
From what i remember reading the sense ui, is dependant on the HTC framework which is a large part of the rom.
Its not just a question of ripping bits out, as is seen with WinMo and TouchFLO.
This is why sense hasnt been ported out to the g1 and instead the are ripping hero roms out and getting them running.
Not sure if the moto blur has the same frame work dependancy as the sense ui does.

Please try and read my post and understand whats being said. That way you wont find the need to make sarcastic comments, its not particulary helpful for anyone else trying to follow the thread.
Just so you know Sense UI isnt a ROM, Sense (aka Rosie) is HTC's Custom UI for Android, closed source im affraid so no direct porting on the any other handset, all you can do is modifiy another phones ROM to run on your hardware.
Is it possible to PORT Sense UI to other devices such as the Sony Ericsson X10, Dell Mini 5 etc?
I really Fancy a Dell Mini 5 but i seriously want Sense UI. I couldnt go back to the Android without it. I wish the Supersonic would just hurry up. I want an Android phone with at least a 4" Screen running Android 2.1....
over at alldroid.org, there is a group of developers under the name Zeusdroid that are working on porting SenseUI over and nearly have it completed besides the RIL or the Radio Interface Link. Due to HTC's special configurations of their ROM that tie into the Radio, there has been some issues with it switching between 3G and 1X to make outgoing calls and then not being able to receive incoming calls.
If there are any season software engineers out there that would be willing to mod the existing RIL to work with the SenseUI rom, please head over to alldroid.org and seen a PM to Greek35T, thegeektern, Birdman or myself.
Thanks,
tallnerd1985
Sorry... but I'm new to the Droid community, but not new to modding.
I've already been through 6 ROMs on my phone... right now on UltimateDroid. It's alright... I need better though.
I've been looking all over... and alldroid is dead. Sadly.
Does anybody know where there might be somebody still working on this and getting it fully functional on the MotoDroid?
I would really love to have SenseUI. And be OCed as fast as I am (Quadrant has BCed me at 1500+ w/ Chevy's 1250 ULV).
Let me know guys... Thanks!
WOW thread necromancy.
There is a user over at droidforums that is working on a sense ui port on the droid 1 from the incredible.
He has a flashable version right now that phone and text work on but no data.
Check this thread.
Head over to HTC Hero forums. They have got official 2.1 with sense UI for hero. Can somebody port the official release for 32A magic? Waiting for magic to happen from any great developer.

A lot of people are having trouble with that ROM; they are saying that it is bogging down their phone and making it a "slow POS". Hopefully we can fix that

Oh, they'll start "testing" it on end of june, sooo ... like ... we have on October or so
I have tested it last night with our device, with most features enabled.
it is faster than legend port. but it is slower than eris port. and...
what surprised me..., it has more bugs than eris port and legend port. both aosp kernel driver and htc's will break something, so I need to do some repairing.
and I am worry about the port jobs in the future. HTC modified more and more basic libs in android layer. maybe replacing libs will become harder and harder.
my biggest interest now is the Dalvik and new webkit in 2.2, but we can't get the sources at current
I have very few time, so I don't know if I should upload my current version, or I should test it more?
it have a bug which make me sick, bluetooth component wants to update database again and again. but this bug is not appeared every time, so a reboot will "fix" it. but I have very bad feeling with it.
and I don't know how to make default APN list too. I am not good at these things. I just put it into /etc as usual, but it didn't work. I have to add my APN manually it seems that this version is for specified mobile operator in Taiwan.
only thing (I have found) which is better than eris port, it uses same graphics as legend.

Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
There were some rumors that some of the Android devices of HTC will not receive the newest update to Android Froyo 2.2. While this is partially true, we’re happy to say that HTC Magic is not included in that “black list”.
As announced by the second largest French mobile operator SFR, the device will receive the desired Froyo soon. Some believe that this will take place even in this month. T-Mobile has also plans to update myTouch 3 G which is basically the same device to Froyo by the end of this year.
Let’s say that the device looks to handle the novelties quite well, considering the fact “of not being that new”. Good job!

so correct me if im wrong... but if the htc magic gets official android 2.2 does that mean the amazing developers here are going to have a field day with it and make it even better and more customizable than the actual creators of it?
I sure hope so would love to have a nice custom rom with 2.2 that works and with tons of bonus stuff pre installed.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but the amazing developers here are having a field day since the froyo source was dropped in to AOSP a few days ago. CM6 should be just around the corner.
i know they are already playing with it, but with a copy from the actually phone i imagine it would be easier to mod and play with since they dont have to port and do all kinds of ridicules things to get it to work on another phone.

Remember that the 32B Magic is the ION/ADP2, everything you need to get a fully working ROM is supplied in the AOSP. What you're suggesting is probably more relevant to devices like the Hero. At any rate, we'll probably see CM6 or some other froyo ROM before a shipped one.
ok well you seem to know more than i do so i hope a 2.2 near perfect rom comes out soom. im so excited lol
Yeah me too, Cyan's feed is the only reason I'm checking twitter atm, really looking forward to speed increases
Hello i would like to know if it's possible to install SonyEricsson's Interface on HTC Hero instead of Sense UI.
Has anyone ever tried to do so?
I cannot say that i am an experienced android user but i think it should not be that hard right???
Thanks in advance

Wrong
That would be very difficult to do, as the frameworks are totally different due to them being totally different devices
Hmmm I never thought that..... you're right......
Thanks anyway

it is possible, but as said itd be very difficult. I guess it would require source code modification, a massive amount of T&A and alot more stuff too.
As good as sonys system may be (no flaming from those who hate it), its just not worth the effort
If SE release an android 2.2 version of the software it is more likely to be ported. But due to the fact it is based upon android 1.6 (last i checked) it is old and outdated - meaning despite it's fancy looks it is very limited in features and speed.

What does this mean for us HD2 users?
It means we might have to wait a bit longer for the actual source to come available.. But there might be some interesting things in this ROM. We will know shortly
Sorry to keep asking questions, but what source is needed? I see the source for the GB kernels for various phones - what exactly is missing?
Just trying to understand better.

Asking questions is never wrong .. The source files contain drivers for the different phones, which is why they are all released seperately. Every device has different hardware, and the Desire has the closest resemblence to the hardware found in our HD2. This is also why many think the Desire source will really help in the development of Gingerbread ROM versions on the HD2 (like it did before on the previous Android releases, for example the camera).
What has been released on HTCdev.com (if I understand correctly), is the ROM upgrade itself, and not the actual kernel source. It may seem weird, because it is the only 'official' ROM upgrade that has been put up on HTCdev.com yet. They are not releasing it OTA (over the air) to all Desires, so they had to put it somewhere easy to be found by devs. This is why it has been put up on that page, which might have been confusing (because many would think it actually is the kernel source). As far as I can see, the package only contains the upgrade itself and 2 APK's. Usually it takes a while longer for this to become available, but per Linux license they are obliged to release it. Eventually.
I think there will be some interesting APK's in this ROM nevertheless.. We'll just have to wait until someone (one of the dev's) has explored the ROM thoroughly.
but it can't be to long from now till the sources are released.

Excellente. Couldn't have said it better. The update's been out for almost a week. And from videos that I've seen, HTC did not upgrade the Sense version to 2.1 or 2.0 for the matter.
But of course all we need is the kernel source.
I'd also like to ask any of the devs:
Will a new kernel need to be compiled when the Desire gingerbread source is released? Hint hint: Rafpigna 2.1?
Also, I'm not familiar with the OC deal, but is it possible to overclock over 1.5 ghz on our HD2? I've seen 1.9 ghz on Desire Z/G2, and almost 1.8 ghz on the DHD.

Does this mean that the the HD2 is on it's "last breath" with Android? Since the Desire isn't getting updated past Gingerbread...
What about Nexus One then? It is pretty much a redesigned Desire.
Or is this necessary for Sense ROMs only, and AOSP ROMs will still work?
Wouldn't it be possible to port something like Leedroid HD then? Since it's on the Desire and it works perfectly..

With Sense builds it is the end of the road I guess.. At least for any Android releases after Gingerbread. With the other builds I am not sure.. We have quite some driver source available, and with that we can probably simply compile them on the newer AOSP and non-sense ROMS. Sense is really a problem when it comes to source, because it is proprietary software written by HTC (no full source for Sense to simply cross-compile their libs). This is also why it is so hard to make decent Sense-builds whenever a new major Android release comes out. I could be wrong here though.
Let's wait for a dev to come over and shed some light ..
Grr... It's a bad day to own both the Desire and the HD2.

Haha, that's true, I guess... I never even got to touch WM6.5 on my HD2, I bought it from Ebay with WP7. Tried it and didn't like it that much. So now I'm wondering which phone should be my primary, HD2 or Desire..

It's just the Sense development that will be near to impossible to be perfect.. The rest will be continued as long as there are developers interested in our HD2.

The hd2 development won't die, merely the Sense ROM development unless HTC make an ice cream sandwich update for the Desire (which is unlikely but possible as Google have stated ics has been designed to work on all Android devices to date). AOSP ROMs will probably continue as long as the device stays popular.
