Hello,
I bought the prophet 200 (xda neo) hoping it would turn out to be a decent device that provides speed as well as endurance in terms of cpu and battery. Unfortunately was badly dissapointed in both factors.
I installed the newest DOPOD rom.
Here are some apps that I installed:
Pocket Plus
Pocket diary
TCPM
Skype
Resco Explorer
Opera
Agile messenger
spb backup
news break
my problems with the device is that I have the feeling that it operates way too slow. This is the first time I own a PDA so it might be my preception that is deluding me.
a couple of examples: If I scroll down the contact list it goes rather slow and laggy. It takes quite a few seconds if I start up an application like opera, IE or skype. Sometimes the start menue pops down only very slow.
Resco File explorer starts slow and takes a while to perform an operation.
Using Pocket Informant is almost impossible beacuse it takes 6 Seconds or so until the app is started and the navigation through the app itself is very slow. (if i want to add a contact it takes 4 seconds until the forms are loaded)
Same applies to Fusion Agenda.
Talking with skype almost does not work at all. When I make a call i cannot adjust the volume anymore or it reacts like 20 seconds later and flips out on me. I cannot end a call because the device almost crashes and it takes 10 seconds to get it back. The other person can barely hear me.
There is another thing regarding battery drainage.
Let me give you an example, If I have just finished charing the device and it displays a battery charge of 100% I unplug it and 1 minute later it goes down by 1% to 99 - an additional minute and the battery meter displays 98. By the end of the day i seem to have a charge of maybe 40% while using the device for maybe 1 hour intensly and the rest just phone standby with maybe 2 calls of 2 min avrg length.
On top i noticed that the left side of the device gets a littel warm when I am using the device extensively or charging it. Is that also normal?
Whats the deal with my device? i dont know a whole lot about pda's. Is that a normal power consumption?
How can I measure if my device performs well in terms of CPU speed because I have the feeling it also runs slow.
please help

As for the battery issue, not sure what to suggest.
after I overlocked my XDA neo (with JAMin WWE ROM) to 252 mhz, I found it runs all programs very smoothly. I can open media player, and read novels at the same time, switch between all the running programs is very smooth and fast. compared with my another PDA (intel Xscal 400 MHZ CPU), I could not see big difference.
Times you mention are quite realistic. My Qtek S200 performs at about the same speed (program startup times) and I can live with it. To improve a little, try to use some task manager to see if you have cpu-intensive programs or today plugins running. also, close programs instead of minimizing them (use magic button, gs pocket magic or else).
Concerning battery, mine seem to last longer. Do you have a dual sim adapter? I found out it was draining my battery very fast also in flight mode.
If you do not need voice dial, there is a thread in these forums about uninstalling it and magically getting a fast keyboard switch (no more 6 s waiting for changing from phonepad to handwriting recognition).
Hope that helps.
Poket plus really hog the CPU. especially the today plug in. I had the same isues. just enable only 1 tab, delete all the other plug in tab for pocket plus. use the meter that you need only. I only use storage meter and it sppeds up quite significant. either that or use resco's today plug in if memory meter is all you need.
As with almost all Pocket PCs out there, I bet you are suffering from the well-known-not-too-mentioned bug of Windows Mobile 5 (inherited from WM3) where the notification database starts accumulating duplicate entries and in a few days, you'll end up having hundreds of duplicate entries, rendering the device almost useless.
You need something like Memaid or similar app to get rid of the duplicate entries. (There are some freewares out there).
Also, make sure you move all your data (and install most apps) into SD RAM, not the internal RAM. You'll get better performance when you keep your PDA above 10-13 megs of program memory.
Just a few pointers...
Best regards,
Rayan

Hi, Can you point me to the post you are mentioning? I have been searching high and low for it but I cannot find it.
I have a Dopod 818 Pro and have Cyberon Voice Commander installed. I uninstalled it yet the 6s delay in switching input modes seems to be still there. I have tried to remove all DLLs and traces of it from the registry, yet have been unsuccessful in removing the 6s delay.
Can you please help?
Thanks
I haven't used the dopod rom but with the newest imate rom (from May06 I think?), the SIP delay is gone. Also, it seems that several of your 3rd party apps are resource hogs. The jamin can function quite well if not trying to run too many today plugins.
Hi thank you for the reply
Actually, I won't like to flash an imate rom to my device as I don't want to take any chances with it. It cost me a lot of money and I want to play it as much by the book as I can hehe..
Other than that, is there a way? I know that this delay has always been there, even when the device was brand new and was running no 3rd party today plugins. It's great that imate managed to solve the issue. Maybe Dopod will get on the ball and do something about it too. I hope so.
I just sold my XDA Exec and bought an SPV M600 and I'm loving it!
It actually fits in my pocket and does pretty much everything the Exec did - plus the battery life is SOOOOOOOOO much better.
My only gripe is this: occassionally when I turn it on, it freezes for about 5-10 seconds. I'm usually tapping away at the screen during this time, and after 5-10 seconds it "catches up" and processes all my taps and basically goes mad opening stuff up.
It has been doing this this since I bought it - usually 2 or 3 times a day so I doubt it's any of the software I've installed.
I'm using the latest Dopod ROM.
I'm have Magic Button, the batteystatus plug in (my device is overclocked to 260mhz from 195mhz using OMAP), TodayScheme Changer and I'm also using the Launcher plug in.
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it, this isn't a major problem but I'd like to solve it anyway,
Thanks.
Have you tried your Prophet without all those apps installed? Specially the TodayTheme Changer and BatteryStatus plugin since those two apps run on the today screen and that's pretty much the first thing that hogs the system bigtime, specially on the slow prophet.
I know you have overclocked it but today plugins tend to overload the processor a lot.
Obviously there's some process that's taking some time to release the system. This I've never seen on mine, but I'm sure you have some app that's causing this.
Just a thought.
Thanks for your reply Rayan, but I also had this problem before I had installed anything. To be fair it hasn't been doing it much lately so I reckon I can live with the odd delay now and again.
Mine s freezes when i Install Net Framework 2 , can anyone have the same situation ? I think the problem is Net Framework 2.0 ...
I don't have Net Framework 2 installed. I found that Magic Button wasn't closing Internet Explorer properly, so I reinstalled it and it works much better now. I think IE was the main culprit. Are there any decent browsers out there? I tried Opera but didn't really get on with it.
try NetFront I like !

Does it also happen when you reboot youre phone? If not, you might be running out of memory. If there is a update availble for youre phone, its always adviced tot do a upgrade.

Well, then i am not able to advice you further. Maybe as you stated you should clean-up some text-messages. Or do a factory restore or update. But the last two suggestions are really drastic. You loose all youre data.
Hope some other member is able to help you
Did you notice this issue after installing a certain application?
If push comes to shove try TouchPal.
Free app on market.
i have the same issue sometimes. even after the rom update, or even moreso.
many times putting in text will be laggy and i have to wait. this wasn't the case in the beginning so i'm wondering too what is causing this lags...
install a app manager (Taskiller) will do and post the list of running apps, I suspect there will be something running in the background that is the culprit.
yeah i sometimes get the same issue - especially annoying when typing and I press the space bar, and it doesn't register the spacebar.

I fixed this by re calibrating the keyboard to my finger.
I came on here tonight to ask about the very same problem and found this thread.
My version of the problem is slightly different:
Usually when I've just turned on the phone texting is OK. After a while it becomes very slow and laggy, I mean glacial. If, for example I receive a text and want to reply straight away I'll hit 'reply' and it will take several seconds for the text entry screen to appear. Then the keyboard is laggy, literally two seconds delay after hitting a key before the letter shows on the screen.
Sometimes though, it will start off slow, like I just said and then half way through the message normal response will be resumed.
I did have Touchpal installed but this became very, very slow. Reverting to the standard keyboard improved things but still very slow as described.
I thought maybe it's something running in the background slowing things up but how can I tell what's running? Is there a good app for monitoring running apps?
I've just installed taskiller.
Amazing how many bits and pieces are running really.... anyway, killing a few running programs has improved things just now.
I'll keep an eye on it.
hi yeah i had the same problem as you when i was using the modaco rom
but then i changed to the updated rom
HTC Generic 2.73.405.5 with radio 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
on this website... first post
http://android.modaco.com/content/h.../03-09-hero-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format/
and all was fine
You will have this problem with many phones... On the hero it does not lag that much imho, it just takes a while to load many messages, like 100 and above will take a while, and sometimes the keyboard takes a while to load, that is true and I can confirm the same thing here :/

Well, when it is slow it is glacial on mine!
If it's misbehaving it can be five seconds from hitting the messages icon to actually getting anything on the screen, then a further five seconds after selecting the appropriate thread, then two or three seconds to get a useable text box to type into and then each letter takes a couple of seconds to register in the text box.
It's taken me a couple of minutes before now to actually get a two or three word reply sent off! Irritating in the extreme when you're really busy and just want to fire off a quick text.
I think you haven't updated to the lattest release of HTC for the Hero?
Then do so since it will fix your problems.
As people said here if it has to do with apps running in the background this is much better handled on Hero.
Android OS keeps all apps that you start in the background and begins to close apps if memory is getting short.

Mine's the T-Mobile G2 variant which I'm keeping stock (for the time being). The latest HTC ROM update has not yet been released by T-Mobile!!!!!
The problem I constantly get is some keys registering as a long touch, so I get the secondary symbol instead of the letter I intended. I press the key as long as all the others, but the phone seems to hesitiate for a second, then insert the symbol instead of the letter.

I sometimes get this also, but only in combination with the slow behaviour described above. If the phone is performing at normal speed then the long press problem doesn't occur.
Hey is it normal for the mytouch to go back to the home screen kinda slow? Like, if im in the music app with music playing and then jump to the brower wile the music playing and then if I decide to hit the Home Key. The home screen takes like 2 to 4 seconds to appear.
I also notice that my IM client cant keep me signed in. Is this a android OS problem? or what?
The rom Im on is CyaMod 4.2.8.1 Which is supose to be fast and all and it is but comin from a iphone where the home screen loaded instantly is what Im kinda use to. Even on WinMobile phones the home screen loads rather instantly.
Any advice?
Thanks?
you can can choose to keep the im signed in or not so that is your fault and not android
you need to overclock the phone to keep it nice and smooth and try clearing the cache every now and then
my own mytouch 3g is fast and better than the iphone

Actually my IM is set to keep me signed in but it doesnt. Im pretty sure the problem im having is more complicated then putting a check mark in the keep me signed in box. LOL
But anyway, maybe clearing the cache will do the trick which is something I dont do too often.
I do run advance task manager and I frequently close programs I dont use. I allways have at least 25mb of mem left but backing back to the home screen is allways 4 to 5 seconds delay. I even tried removing all my icons from the other screen and only have total 5 icons on the 1st screen.
Any other advice would be appreciated thanks guys.
mine is not rooted and the battery life sucks, overclocking will help but it'll run the battery harder. The bottom line is tmobile doesn't want to make a phone with very much ram because then u might be too satisfied with your device and not want a new one every few months.
Wow so is this a hardware/mytouch3g issue?
I tried different roms from stock to herosense to now the latest dohnut but everynow and then the home screen lags to appear especially when im multi tasking on it like music/webrowse/google maps all at the same time WITH weatherbug/twidroid in the background.
The phone just starts to run a lil slower especially when I need to back out to the home screen. As for the IM problem. I think the IM looses connection or is closed automattically from the background when other software require more memory.
I had a G1 on cupcake for a limited time before and I dont remember it having this problem. I dont know. but if theres any suggestions to kinda get rid of this problem please let me know.
EDIT
As for overclocking I allways thought the newer cyanmods roms had overclocking at default. Even with overclock it seems the problem is with memory.
i have the same issue on both g1 and the magic as well...def not as smooth as the iphone....sometimes too many widgets will cause slow downs on the screen loading i have noticed....just part of multitasking, making it a tad slow...and yeah..the cyanogen is oc'ed by default
Hi.
I have to soft reset my HD2 all the time because it often lags too much.
I will now list the things which makes me wanna reset my device:
- The HD2 lags so badly, that most actions take up to 5 seconds.
- One application can crash (mostly HTC_Messaging), and I have to soft reset.
- When I write messages, the keyboard has a input lag of 5-10 seconds.
- Screen wont turn on when I push the buttons
- The device wont unlock when I slide the slider, it just stops up.
Now this happens each time I upgrade my ROM, and I am currently using Artemis now.
The programs I've installed each time is:
- FingerKeyboard
- Touch X reset and wifi
- Touch X button icon in messaging
and now I use WMLongLife also.
My SD-card is an 8GB card.
So if someone could help me, I would be happy.
(Sorry for bad english.)

Start again. Install nothing and just configure settings.
Does it run slow and crash then?
If so you have problem that could be harware.
Try another ROM and if the same then I think you need to return the unit.
If all runs fine on a clean, vanilla phone then you are doing something in the install process that is causing the instability.
Try installs one by one to the phone mem and check operation each time.
NB. Some background info would have been helpful. ROM version, Model etc!

The problem is that I can't predict when its gonna happen. It can happen randomly, and then I have to restart the phone. After the restart, everything works normal and perfect.
This can happen upto three times a day, some days it wont happen at all.
Currently using 2.10.531.7 Artemis, but this also happens with the stock ROM. The newest one that is. My radio version is 2.06.51.07
Its kinda difficult to run things vanilla phone, cause the applications I use, I need.
for me htc messaging has never crashed...
i suggest you to flash a stock rom, 1.66 for example and try it without the sent button.
if there are still problems, u can try using mtty or send it back for repair...
edit: i had the problem where the phone was freezing while loading for a long time (over night), and the display won´t turn on. Switched back to manually update Facebook, Twitter and Weather, and had no more problems since...

Well I think its crashing.
That's what I usually use when I lock the screen. So sometimes when I try to unlock it, I just get half of the messaging program or nothing, on screen. And I cant do anything.
When I try to click the Home-button, it respons in some seconds and Home-screen is all laggy.

When you lock the phone apps still run in the back ground as if asleep and when you unlock they attempt to restore themselves as they were before the lock.
You have something clashing installed and that is calling the registry at the same time as something else. Remember when windows full size used to do it?.
I think you have a badly written piece of software installed (either preloaded or installed by yourself) and suggesting starting from vanilla is a way to issolate it!
i've also had similar problems as you. after hard reseting a couple of times, i noticed that the intermittent lag began after i started syncing my phone to my PC and myphone. it turns out that my terrible management of appointments, messages and contacts was the root of my problem (several duplicates of everything, and almost 5000 text messages). i suggest you attempt to work your phone a couple days without loading up any PIM information, archive messages and remove duplicates (sktools is excellent at doing this)
i suggest you do something similar, it really helps. i was able to get my device to prrform as well as when i still had the vanilla ROM
best of luck! your device is better than you think!
Also, use the Task Manager, and close applications that you don't use, especially the Internet browser and applications that use data connection. These ones can really block the phone when connection is intermittent.
Yet again, I'm left dumbfounded by claims of "serious" issues with this device. I just don't understand how almost everyone has a "story" regarding the HTC HD2 being SLOW or LAGGY. Fortunately for me, I haven't soft reset my unit in 46h 5m 19s and everything is still running flawlessly.
your phone sounds faulty or something. for me.. even with the Stock 1.66 ROM i had, it was working pretty fast n smooth. now with Dutty's ROM, its faster n smoother than ever. i love this beast
I never have these problem! I used Official or Clean EX HQ roms and never got these problem!
Try a Task 29 and flash with 1.66 Official or Most popular Cook ROM
Pa49: I have only installed the programs which I have listed in the first post. I guess im not the only one using them.
Kev007: I usually have a lot of textmessages when I dont delet them, but thats max 2000. I dont sync my phone with my computer, so no uneccessary contacts or something either. Dont even use calendar, so have no appointments.
Reignzone: It is really bad. It can happen upto three times a day, and I just cant use the phone at all. Just sliding the home-screen to see all my shortcuts takes maybe 10 seconds. I could film it with a camcorder next time it happens so people could see.
The same thing happens each time I've installed a ROM. So it has clearly something to do with the phone and not with the software I've installed.

I get lags too when twitter is updating in the background. You would think a 1ghz processor could do two things at once
Backup your miscrosd. Try a microsd format. Restore your data. See if this helps.
T-Mo US HD2, still completely stock. I was having some issues with sluggish animations, applied many of the tweaks in the sticky threads here, things got better. However, it was super super slow to switch into some applications (SMS *always*, others occasionally).
Eventually I wondered about that fancy Swype keyboard and tried switching back to the full qwerty. All that disappeared and it moves like lightning now, I have to say.
I haven't played with updating Swype or maybe at least loading a ROM without it that I can do a regular install on top of. However, right now I don't miss it .
Lag issues
I have no idea what is causing your issues, but if it travels from one rom to the next, it may be your sd card.
I had an issue with lag in swype and other apps.
I noticed when I popped out the sd card the device instantly unfroze.
I then copied all files except App data and reformatted the sd.
No issues after that.
Hope this helps.
