Hi
Anyone else had their hero lock up while on charge over night?
I have had it about 10 days and rooted it. Started getting slower and then 2 nights ago put it on charge before bed and in the morning it was totally non responsive and i had to pull the battery.
Decided root was not needed so I got the stock Rom from xda and flashed it back.
Now runs s9 much faster. great I thought.
Put it on charge again before bed yet again in the morning it was Locked.
Pulled the power and left it. 3 hrs later I pulled the battery it had totally drained it.
Been fine and fast all day so will let you know if it locks again.
White sim free model.

Update: Charged last night via usb from macbook and it was fine this morning.

I've had this on my stock t-mobile hero. I just assumed that an app was that runs in the background was causing it. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but I'm pretty sure it was a rss/news reader.
Sorry I'm so vague
I have NewsRob running. He has updated it twice in as many days so maybe that was it and now its fixed.
Will keep am eye on it.
Thanks
Russ
Found it, mine was called news buzz.
I am having this issue

Has anyone noticed a severe drop in battery life with the new over the air update? Since the new update my phone lasts around 12 hours before I'm running looking for a charger.
Yup, having the same problem and I can't figure out why.
Keep an eye on this post

Thanks topdawgn8, that seems like that is probably the issue. Unfortunately I am not rooted and it doesn't look like I can revert to an old PRI or software version w/out unlocking. =/
My friend actually had his evo battery die suddenly while it was on the charger after the OTA, he showed me a thread on sprintuser forums that showed several other people having the same problem.
He tried my battery and his phone worked again, his battery didn't work in mine, so his battery just completely died and would not charge, wouldn't boot up for more than a split second either.
He took it in today and asked them to replace the battery, they were out of stock and the sprint salesman gave him the battery out of an evo he was holding lol.
Battery life for me is about the same after the update, but my is phone completely stock.
Stayed at a friends house last night and didn't have any charge leads (he has a fruit based phone).
So I turned off wifi and data. Was at 40% when I went to bed and was surprised to see 40% when I woke up this morning.
I'm confident that there are no drain issues with my setup.
Just thought I'd share.

well, that mean you didnt use the phone at all. you didnt open your phone(i assum) to check for the time, and didnt surf the web becuse you were a sleep.
it's could be a great tip: during the night dont use your phone at all.
Funny

As true and as funny as this reply is i think hes getting at the point that he has no rogue apps draining his battery. It would be nice if he would be so kind as to share what his setup is though instead of just bragging lol
Drew
Yesterday I watched before going to sleep and the battery was at 90% when I woke up the battery is still at a 90% and then I realized that I only slept 2 hours
LOL, many funny and valid points stated.
Yes I didnt look at my phone or recieve any calls/messages.
Also I went to bed at 11 and woke up at 7 so a decent length of time to prove it worth while.
As for setup:
Ultimate 8.2
Ultimate kernel 1.2 (800mhz, ext2 all with loops, 75mv UV)
dont use any messaging apps etc. and also dont use any sort of app killer. just make sure apps are exited when I stop using them.
If there I anything I missed please ask. Also I use an all black theme with Launcher pro, not that it matters with this issue.
My phone did this straight after a charge.
It was straight off the charge at 100% i went to bed slept i dunno maybe 5-6 hours and when i got up phone was till 100%.This stayed until the afternoon which i thought was sus so i turned off and powered on again my phone and it came up 44%(circular battery widget) even the standard battery icon stayed on 100% until i restarted.
So maybe a glitch in phone or summit i dunno just thought i would mention it since even for fairly short periods of time there should still be some battery lose.
I had this on a stock froyo build as well, had my phone on WiFi when I went to bed, same charge when I woke up. But for me the Wifi stopped working as my peak hour mail check did not kick in until I tried it manually. So a minor bug that saved me quite some charge
I apologize in advance if there is a similar thread; I could not find one.
My EVO has been fine, no issues. I use it heavily every day. I'm running Cyanogen 7 nightly 147 (I think) and have been for 4 or 5 days. Using the Tiamat kernel running SMARTASS.
Last night I shut down around midnight with around 50% power. I plugged in the charger but don't remember if the charging light came on then. This morning there is no charging light and the phone won't boot. Tried long holding the power button, battery pulls, pulled the SD card (for lack of anything else to try). Nothing has had any effect.
Does anyone have other ideas? I'm at a loss. If it's dead, it sure chose a strange way to go. Any advice would be very appreciated. I need this thing for work and home. Many thanks.
Just after posting I went back to playing with different chargers and power button pushes. The white HTC logo flashed for a second and the phone vibrated but it went right back off. It's the first sign of life I've seen, but I can't get it to repeat or go further.
This happened to my sisters Evo when she first got it last summer. Luckily it was the battery and HTC shipped a new one for free. The warranty on the evo is 15 months so you can try and request a new battery!

I have found one similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913258. So maybe it is a dead battery. Been getting amazing life recently, so it seems crazy that it would suddenly be dead. Is this common?
Any suggestions for going to the Sprint store with a rooted phone? Since it's a bad battery, they may not need to look at the phone once it boots. I haven't had to do this before, so I'm not sure what to expect.
if you do go to a sprint store, i would not let them keep the phone or even take it out of your sight. if that happens you may well find yourself unrooted. but thats just a guess. you can get on ebay or any other similar site and buy a cheap battery for less than $5. then if thats not the problem go from there. this same problem happened to me but luckily one of my friends also has an EVO so i just used his battery and my phone worked great. so i just bought a new battery
Thanks for the input. Headed to the Sprint store in a minute to see if a battery will solve it.
It was the battery. They tested in at the Sprint store and pronounced it DOA. They said they don't normally have spare batteries but they happened to have one, luckily. I was pretty grabby with the phone and didn't let it go for long. Once it started to boot I took it back and they never saw the Cyanogen screens.
Overall they handled it very well. I was impressed with how responsive they were. I was out of there in 10 minutes.
Hi there,
I bought a Galaxy S3 in the beginning of July and it's been great. Everything running smoothly, no problems whatsoever, excellent battery life. I've been getting 10 hours or more most days - I could not have been happier.
The phone is exactly as I bought it from the shop, with the exception that I'm running Nova launcher instead of the stock launcher.
However, The phone downloaded an update in early August and since then I've been having problems. The phone is running as normal, then, for no apparent reason it gets insanely hot, seriously, I could probably iron a shirt with it if I wanted. This appears to drain the battery completely and the phone shuts down within an hour.
This is only happening since the phone downloaded the latest update, it never happened before that. Yesterday it didn't happen, I got the full day out of my phone, unplugged it at 8am and didn't have to plug it in until near 9pm. But most other days the phone is getting really hot at some stage between 11am and 1pm and the battery is dead within the hour. I haven't installed any new apps since before the last update.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be?? If you need any more information please let me know.
I'm running Android 4.0.4
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Its possible that ota update is not so good at it seems like and when you have running apps in background ( i assume). If i get your post correctly i asume that its ota update that causes your problems (correct me if im wrong) for more help go to s3 forums since this isnt s3 forum but samsung galaxy 3 one

Oh right, S3 again. And I was already wondering how the G3 could heat up that much by it's own components^^
Nevertheless I would recommend whereismydroidpower app.
oops! sorry guys, will repost.
thanks for the advice.
I just downloaded the update and i noticed that my battery life SUCKS right now and the phone charges EXTREMELY slow... has anyone noticed this problem with their s5 after the update??
From around 9:30pm and 100% battery, i went down to 58% by around 11:30pm of constant use... the phone has been plugged in since then and i am up to only 71%
I am hoping that after this charge it holds a little better but this slow charging is no damn good :/
I'll try it out througout the day tomorrow, but right now I am pretty friggin worried, since until now the battery life and charging were amazing...
No issues here. NI2 working fine, rooted. Check your battery stats to find out what app or service is eating the battery & uninstall or wipe its data. Backup & wipe your phone back to stock if needed.
Fine here worked 10 hours yesterday still 70%

My phone is happening the same. The phone constantly trying to communicate with cell tower and freezes while I am typing. I flashed fresh a couple of time. I hope that it will be better after a couple of days. Please let me know if there is any setting that I should look into.
