im on my 3rd hero now. the first had dust, the second would not update the profile or provision. ive had my new one for 3 days now and the battery life is horrid, even with an extended 2000mAH battery. i had the phone fully charged this morning and within 2 hours without any use it was down to 93% while sleeping? i went ahead and disabled auto syncing, changed my yahoo email to sync at 1 hour intervals instead of every 10 minutes and uninstalled some apps to see if there is a difference. it's been off charge since 4am and now it's sitting at 80% with very light usage and no calls today. is this normal or should i notify sprint? by the way im using the pancake 1.5 rom, usually i had pretty decent battery life until now.
if it"s the phone i know i can know request another phone model since id be going on my 4th replacement, i love the hero but im tired of sprint and there problematic phones. ill request a new moment or a new tp2. worse comes to worse in may my wife and i will leave sprint and go to t-mobile, i hear they don't check credit there to activate new service.
any thoughts guys?
nevermind, I should do more reading before posting sometimes
Did you initially prep your battery by allowing it to fully discharge and recharge before relying on the battery indicator?

the battery is like 2 months old, initially i did, yes. like i said this is my 3rd hero, my last one was running the same rom and the battery life was much better. damn sprint and their refurbished "new" phones.
I'm running ZenHero and I unplugged my phone at about 730 this morning..and as it sits right now im at 50% with syncing set to every hour

You need to keep getting replacements until you find one that works fine. Also, the ROM you're running can contribute to battery. If you're on a Sprint leak rom, make sure to do the *#*#4636#*#* trick.

well yeah the 2.1 roms have worse battery life, im running 1.5 without sense installed. not sure if it's a good comparison. im just trying to figure out if this is normal or if i should call sprint?
Check for common things like time without signal and awake time.
I have my email, twitter, fb, weather, etc. set to check fairly often and they seem to do little to battery life.
My phone comes off the charger at 7:15-7:30 am and is used as a music player for the majority of my 8-9 hours at work, I tend to send about 10-20 texts a day and spend about a half to hour on the phone, by the time I am heading out the battery is usually at 60% or so, some days it is lower some it is higher, right now at 3:45pm the battery is at 73%. On avg the battery is at about 30% when I go to bed at midnight.
Currently running Fresh 2.1d w/ lwp

Ahh..ya my nandroid is 0.1 Pancake with sense and i usually get a full day and I'm at about 25-30%.
Honestly..you are better off with a hero. I came from a moment and a tp2 and neither were "my cup of tea". The moment is plagued with bad support from Samsung and the tp2 while a nice phone..I used it after coming from an android phone and was disappointed in what WM6.5 did not have when compared to Android.

I am running damage 2.0.7.2.8.1.57.5783.5468.4.∞
I was up at 7 this morning, unplugged it first thing- its 15 til 5 PM here now.
I am at ~80% with moderate use. Downloaded about 10 Apps from the market, constant emails coming in (gamil and exchange), facebook, texting, 3 or 4 phone calls.
Wait..you are at 80% after 12 hours? I'd say consider yourself lucky...I'm not at 12 hours yet and im below 50% with just texting.

yeah but it's draining when im not even using the phone at all today, not even texting. this is also on an extended battery. i guess ill call sprint, they told me this was a new phone and it's a refurb...got over 579 calls made under my settings and it says it's a refurb date of 1/10/10. they flat out told me my replacement would be brand new, my 2nd one was.

Without any use my battery is at ~50% after 12 hours on a normal battery. I don't think theres anything wrong with the phone, other than them lying to you and saying it was new.
if its that andida battery, I wouldnt be surprised.....mine seemed to last longer , until it hit 50% then it dropped 1% every 90 seconds

I took my phone off the Charger at 6:30am and it's now 2:30pm i'm currently at 70% battery.
this is with around 500+ texts a couple phone calls checking of emails updating a couple of APPs and running Google Buzz
Firmware: 2.1-update1 (sprint 2.1 leak)
Baseband: 2.42.00.03.10
Build: 2.20.321.1 CL157175 test-keys
Software: 2.20.651.1
PRL: 60663
and made sure i did *#*#4636#*#* and made sure it was on CDMA auto PRL
and have "Use Wireless Networks" turned off
Im able to run my phone for over 20 hours with sync and data on.
How I managed it:
1. Deleted almost every app
2. Flashed 8/25
3. Switched to Launcher Pro
4. Go to CyanogenMod Settings>User Interface> Automatic Backlight> Enable
5. Go to Spare Parts> End Button behavior > Set Go to Sleep
5. Wiped dalvik cache
6. Recharged to full
7. While at 100% charging, wiped battery stats
8. Unplug and let the phone drain to 0% (let it turn off)
9. Recharge and enojoy
If succesfull backup
Im using the stock kerned with NO battery tweak. I tried it but since I didnt see any improvement I took it out. 8/25 is amazingly fast with launcher Pro so I dont see the point in changing anything else to my Hero. Now I only install Apps that I really want or that wont keep my phone awake. I use pure calendar, handcent, beautiful widgets...stuff like that
Now after 10 months of use im really enjoying my HERO. I hope this helps those of you that are trying to improve your battery life.

genius.
they kept auto installing after flashing a new Rom lol
Im no expert but I figured I had to uninstall them before flashing
How I got 70+ hours of battery
1. Used CM6 Nightly
2. Used TweakTool(still in development http://tweaktool.com but it is the same as collin_ph's battery tweak essentially)
3. Used Decad3nce's experimental BFS kernel
4. Left 3g off unless I needed it
5. ????
6. PROFIT
I have 3g on all the time
The best I have pulled on my phone was 32 hours with twenty percent left this was with light to avg use with 3g turned off, unless o needed it....
I was on nightly 8/24 with uncapped kernel #8

Why? You can use an app like JuiceDefender to set it to turn on every 5 or 10 minutes to allow updates and set it to keep 3g on when the screen is on, could save you some battery
Sounds good ill try it. Thanks

Juice defender destroyed my phones battery life, even when I configured it all, it just drained, drained, drained.
Auto brightness is a waste of battery to me, i set it to 30% and forget it.
My phone makes it through the day, thats all I need. About 30% at 10 pm, off the charger at 7am.

Same here. With Juice Defender I was lucky if my charge held through my lunch break at work.
The biggest battery save for me is to turn off 3G until I have to use it. By the time I go to bed I still have 40-50 percent charge on my phone.
Tried juice defender for around 5 hours and didn't work. At 30% said I had 2 more hours left. During the first hour after setup it drained 9%. That's a lot. Uninstalled

Well fear not citizens, for soon, tweaktool will be released (hopefully soon, depends on how much time i have laying around to program it) and will work for any phone, any rom, etc. Also gonna have new features eventually like 3g off when screen off, and a few other things, spread the word http://tweaktool.com
strange I've always had good luck with juice defender. Lately though with how well cm6 is on the battery I've been setting juice defender to only shut off 3g when the screens off and turn it on every hour for 5 minutes to update. My batter life is pretty amazing right now.

I flashed my vibrant to bionix 1.3.1 a while back, pretty much a week after is was released. Its been great up to about 2-3 days ago. I had a full charge at work at today around 2 pm, I got home and checked the battery life at around 6 pm it was at 72%. I sent out about 4 texts lastnight. Got up this morning is was at 44%. I used to get about 2-3 days out of light use. It will probably be dead by 2 pm again today.
What gives?
Network data off -

Brightness is the lowest -
Idk maybe randomly reading it wrong? P.s. Why dont people charge their phones at night?!?!? Thats what I do
Oh i do as well usually. But like i said, the battery is starting to drop so fast that by lunch that day it was already at like 49%. By 2 pm is was full and so on. I just dont understand why its dropping so fast thats all.
Might have something to do with the battery
Check what's running in the background. The other night I was just using the phone normally and put it to sleep, checked it a few times and it was dropping 1% every 15 minutes or so. Noticed it kept checking into something. VVM and Market Checkin was running, killed it and it seemed to help. Also discovered (might not be true) that the New MAPS and GMAIL apps constantly check in and drain the battery after removing the updates phone seems to last longer/as it did before..:/
oo maybe that might be it. I Just updated a boat load of my apps a few days ago. P.s. how do you remove just the update?

those are just a few tips , if You didn't install anything that would change Your battery behavior TRY TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE IN WALL OUTLET INSTEAD OF COMUPUER USB ,also did You flash any updates to Bionix that got released because of so some of them contain update to modem so if previous bionix was on JL4 modem which is fast and battery savy new update might off reflashed your modem to newer one as fast as old but with worst battery . good luck i can give u million tips how to save juice , oh btw :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931351
also clean up Your battery stats in clockwork and recharge it with wall outlet Your battery might be recalibrated and when it shows 2% left u might have 10 really instead that's why clean battery stats and recharge.
or sadlly Your battery cant hold the juice anymore because it was recharged to zero few times too many , sorry
This is crazy. I just came to xda to post my bionix 1.3.1 battery problem. I been running it for a week and no issues. But this morning I took the phone off the charger and within 10 minutes of using it I was down to 85%. Usually after my morning usage I'd be around 93-95%. But that's not the issue I wanted to post.
I was trying to wait for Black Ice since Frost had the best battery life of any rom I've tried...just not feeling the Frost theme. So I started to download the Frost zip & got the phone on the charger.
Even after I put it back on the charger my battery life kept going down. Plugged it in at 85% and a few minutes later I noticed it was at 83%

look for GMAIL and MAPS, click on them and then where it says "Uninstall update" you want to click that. Done.

I have the same problem. I have system panel running all the time. When I sleep, the phone sleeps too and uses about 1% of battery per hour. But when im actually using the phone, even if the use is minimal like sending a few texts etc. The battery consumption is far greater than the use. Top apps in system panel monitoring is usually system process and system itself. How do I correct this issue?

I agree with you also. These guys must have some super batteries to get that kind of life out of it. lol.
I've been running EE03 since it was leaked.
The reason I stuck with it was because I saw EXCELLENT battery life (compared to SRF1.0.2. which I was running previusly) with the same usage (for me)..
Gingerbread was laggy at times, had some minute bugs that were tolerable (during my usage patterns) but I fell in love with the battery life.
On SRF 1.0.2 I would put my phone in airplane mode overnight to keep the battery from dying while i slept.. while it was a workaround (for me) it wasn't the most desirable solution.. I felt adventurous one night while on GB and left the phone sitting, no airplane mode, just to see how far the battery would drop compared to SRF... i only lost 5% overnight.. THAT was the ticket for me.. so i kept it and ran it.. haven't flashed a thing since.. no new apps, no new configurations.. it was working beautifully (as well as a leaked build could be expected to ) .. but it was very tolerable for me..
Until the last couple days... I noticed (all of a sudden) that while I'm sitting next to my computer, phone plugged in to charge before bed, the phone would disconnect/reconnect to the computer.. it would make that sound when you plug it in.. it would do this no matter what percent of charge it had.. for no rhyme or reason... I wiggled the cord in both the phone and computer in case the cord was to blame.. nothing.. i couldn't 'force replicate' this anomaly.. Further, at night around 4 in the morning the phone would vibrate and pop up that it was going to die, please plug in charger... the second night, I put the phone in airplane mode overnight and I STILL got the pop up at 3am that it was going to die...
So I decided (at 11:30) last night to ODIN back to EC05, then root w/ CWM 3.0.2.5. and flash SRF 1.1.1 .... I'll see how it goes.. hopefully battery life on this build is better than what I experienced on 1.0.2 lol...
Sorry for the long post.. I just wanted to share my frustration and see if anyone else had this weird anomaly w/ EE03.
/venting and pissing off the rest of XDA for long post
ive had the same problems with the disconnect/reconnect sound off. on top of what you have mentioned i have also had the problem of the phone being fully charged but showing the red charge light instead of the blue fully charged light. additionally the phone seems to get much more hot on this rom, i can simply be playing a game or something and the phone will get so hot that the charging is forced to be stopped, never had this problem untill the ee03,

I've had problems with the phone not charging all the way. It will show 100% charge and then stop charging. When you unplug, it then shows the actual battery level, which has been as low as 35%. I've tried lots of things like wiping battery stats, but it keeps happening randomly.
EE03 is still fairly buggy. Some days my battery life is fantastic. Other days, it drains like a sieve. Even when I have fairly similar issues. Seems to correspond to how "hot" the phone is running that day. Also, phone calls just eat battery life.
going back to EC05 too... gonna be a long few weeks (hopefully only that). Awesome, just too hot, buggy, and I get PISSPOOR battery life.... but I have horrible reception at home, and even using roam control it still sucks down the juice. Also, I cant remember, is the settings process supposed to be permanenty running??? mine is, maybe that explains the settings not sticking... go samsprint go!
Its going to be hard for me to leave EC05. Full bars on my 4G. Wifi Tether is insanely fast and reliable. Bluetooth pairs properly. This has been the best modem for me by a mile

initially, I was getting stellar battery life, but the last couple days of using it, I noticed my phone getting hot. I have no idea why things were slick as snot for a long time, then it all went to hell in a handbasket.. good thing is it's easy enough to change to something else LOL (thanks Epic Devs )
EE03 has been strange for me at times. I've noticed when it's charging and it makes the charging sound, the battery life will be terrible the next time I take it off. However, if I just reboot it, it usually stops making the sound at random times, and the battery life is giving me 12+ hours/day.

So true. The first day of switching over to it I got over a days worth of battery but lately it hasn't been that awesome though it is still better than it was before
Okay so I posted here a week or so ago about how my Xperia Play was epicly failing....it was force closing everything and dying in just hours.
So I factory reset and used Titanium to restore all of my apps and stuff...and so far the crawling speed/force closing has for the most part abated (opening up texts and contacts still sometimes takes forever or force closes)
but the battery issue remains. My battery is absolute garbage at the moment. It drains by 10 percent per half hour if being used or even more!! And it gets hot constantly, and obviously at that time it really sheds the power and dies quickly.
If I'm CHARGING the phone WHILE using it heavily, it WON'T power ABOVE the % it started at!! It stays constant or goes down!!
I'm not sure what to do. Should I let the phone die, keep it off, and charge it while off till its 100%?
Or maybe my phone is approaching the situation it was a week ago...I constantly check the running apps and its the usual suspects, nothing crazy. I had to delete official facebook app because it almost ALWAYS lagged and oftentimes force closed.
It says cell standby is using 40%, wi-fi using about 22%, voice calls 17%, phone idle 15%, and dialer 14%
What happened to my phone? Why is it such a clusterf*ck lately? Any ideas/advice?
Are you leaving wifi on because that will really suck the battery down? Also do you live in an area with bad signal? Put it in airplane mode and see if the battery still discharges as fast.

My r800x dies in 6 hours whether it's on airplane mode or not. I've re calibrated the battery like 5 times so far, and it just won't get better. I'm regretting moving to verizon to this. I should just get a sim card and go back to my HTC Inspire. I can leave the r800x in idle with the screen off, while in airplane mode and it will still die in 6 hours. It doesn't even last a whole day of work. Mine's also rooted. I need some serious help with this phone.
Turn off wifi.
If you have it on it will search for wifi networks all of the time (unless you're home and connected to your own wifi) and it will suck your battery dry.
I don't even use wifi. I don't have access to the router at home, and my data is turned off when I'm not using it.
Perhaps you have a bad battery? Maybe replacing that will solve the issue.
It could be. Every time I try to check my battery's health, no matter what app I use, or even if I do it from the service menu it reads at "unknown". One app says that my phone doesn't even have a battery stat service, or something along those lines. I was considering just buying one of those mugen batteries for my phone, considering that I brought the issue to verizon's attention, and they told me they were gonna send me a replacement battery, but I never got it. This was all about 2 months ago though.
wow, sounds bad. mine will last all day, its an r800x on 2.3.3 as well but i can use it like normal, play about a hour of games on it, talk on it a lot, use wifi and 3g and do some average surfing and it will last at least 24-30 hours...
i'm thinking it must be a bad battery as well
Im running 2.3.3 verizon from the FTF and my r800x would last almost 3days, and thats with texting/talking/surfing using 3g and playing a shyt load of sonic . I would replace the battery with a genuine Sony replacement, dont ever buy a ebay knock off ! Furthermore, I don't believe apps that check your battery health are accurate at all, so dont waste your time.
Best way to check (imo) - Before you charge it up, let it go to 0% and die. Boot recovery and wipe the battery stats, turn the phone on and charge to full. After its fully charged, let it sit 10-15 mins on charge. Then pull of the charge and use normally, if it still dies fast, replace the battery.
If this idea was already posted sorry for double post
How do I go into recovery? My boot loader is still locked. As much as I want to unlock it to put abc xperia play rom on, I don't want to pay 25 bucks.

You cannot boot into recovery without an unlocked bootloader

I swapped mine out for similar issues. The replacement doesn't have the same issues yet but I haven't put a single app on it. I can't say that adding apps caused it before because I remember it similarly not getting anywhere when charging while using. I also experienced it dropping while charging but it turned out to be a that the MTP device wasn't starting on the PC so it showed as plugged in and charging even though it wasn't (check the Device Manager). My Alienware M11x actually supports charging devices off that particular USB port when it is turned off so it was a bit hard to figure out when it seemed to charge some times and not others.
So I got a new battery. Battery life oz still terrible, phone still can't detect battery health.
Not sure why, but my battery voltages are higher than 3.6 :/

Hate to tell you but it sounds like your Play is defective.
The only way it would always get hot like that is if it was always running, that would be mainly driven by being in a REALLY bad service area that its always searching. I have a boatload of games etc on mine and my battery life varies from 2 days to 3/4 of a day depending where I am. Heck my battery life varies as to whether I leave my phone on my desk at work or on the shelf above me (lasts longer on the shelf).
But the fact you said that even in airplane mode it eats the battery, and a new battery didn't do the trick. I would say you got a bad one. Still under warranty I hope?
i'm not entirely sure. I got mine through verizon in august or september of this year. Not sure if Verizon would handle replacing it, since I didn't buy their extended warranty. I read somewhere that SE themselves can handle it since it's not a year old yet, but my phone is kinda required for work.
