Finally sent EE03 packing - Epic 4G General

I've been running EE03 since it was leaked.
The reason I stuck with it was because I saw EXCELLENT battery life (compared to SRF1.0.2. which I was running previusly) with the same usage (for me)..
Gingerbread was laggy at times, had some minute bugs that were tolerable (during my usage patterns) but I fell in love with the battery life.
On SRF 1.0.2 I would put my phone in airplane mode overnight to keep the battery from dying while i slept.. while it was a workaround (for me) it wasn't the most desirable solution.. I felt adventurous one night while on GB and left the phone sitting, no airplane mode, just to see how far the battery would drop compared to SRF... i only lost 5% overnight.. THAT was the ticket for me.. so i kept it and ran it.. haven't flashed a thing since.. no new apps, no new configurations.. it was working beautifully (as well as a leaked build could be expected to ) .. but it was very tolerable for me..
Until the last couple days... I noticed (all of a sudden) that while I'm sitting next to my computer, phone plugged in to charge before bed, the phone would disconnect/reconnect to the computer.. it would make that sound when you plug it in.. it would do this no matter what percent of charge it had.. for no rhyme or reason... I wiggled the cord in both the phone and computer in case the cord was to blame.. nothing.. i couldn't 'force replicate' this anomaly.. Further, at night around 4 in the morning the phone would vibrate and pop up that it was going to die, please plug in charger... the second night, I put the phone in airplane mode overnight and I STILL got the pop up at 3am that it was going to die...
So I decided (at 11:30) last night to ODIN back to EC05, then root w/ CWM 3.0.2.5. and flash SRF 1.1.1 .... I'll see how it goes.. hopefully battery life on this build is better than what I experienced on 1.0.2 lol...
Sorry for the long post.. I just wanted to share my frustration and see if anyone else had this weird anomaly w/ EE03.
/venting and pissing off the rest of XDA for long post

ive had the same problems with the disconnect/reconnect sound off. on top of what you have mentioned i have also had the problem of the phone being fully charged but showing the red charge light instead of the blue fully charged light. additionally the phone seems to get much more hot on this rom, i can simply be playing a game or something and the phone will get so hot that the charging is forced to be stopped, never had this problem untill the ee03,

I had the same issues , I was worried my phones charging port might be damaged but a quick flash back to srf proved it was the EE03 rom
Besides that, everything ran perfectly for me.

I've had problems with the phone not charging all the way. It will show 100% charge and then stop charging. When you unplug, it then shows the actual battery level, which has been as low as 35%. I've tried lots of things like wiping battery stats, but it keeps happening randomly.
EE03 is still fairly buggy. Some days my battery life is fantastic. Other days, it drains like a sieve. Even when I have fairly similar issues. Seems to correspond to how "hot" the phone is running that day. Also, phone calls just eat battery life.

going back to EC05 too... gonna be a long few weeks (hopefully only that). Awesome, just too hot, buggy, and I get PISSPOOR battery life.... but I have horrible reception at home, and even using roam control it still sucks down the juice. Also, I cant remember, is the settings process supposed to be permanenty running??? mine is, maybe that explains the settings not sticking... go samsprint go!

Its going to be hard for me to leave EC05. Full bars on my 4G. Wifi Tether is insanely fast and reliable. Bluetooth pairs properly. This has been the best modem for me by a mile

Yeah, the most I was able to get out of EE03 was 8 hours of idle time with the battery calibrated.

initially, I was getting stellar battery life, but the last couple days of using it, I noticed my phone getting hot. I have no idea why things were slick as snot for a long time, then it all went to hell in a handbasket.. good thing is it's easy enough to change to something else LOL (thanks Epic Devs )

EE03 has been strange for me at times. I've noticed when it's charging and it makes the charging sound, the battery life will be terrible the next time I take it off. However, if I just reboot it, it usually stops making the sound at random times, and the battery life is giving me 12+ hours/day.

JI6 update: a *serious* let-down, in my opinion

So, this post is 1/2 "rant" and 1/2 "any ideas", but the JI6 Update has been (in my opinion) a very serious letdown.
First of all, I can't be alone in thinking that the late-September update from Samsung would be a full-blown upgrade to Froyo. Obviously it's not. I guess we'll wait awhile before that's released
Secondly, I'm one of those sorry saps that had the update soft-brick my phone. It took me a few days to get around to the ODIN fix (bumping me back to "stock"), but it was still a royal pain.
Thirdly, I've already seen some issues that I didn't have before. For instance, the phone "froze" on me while sitting at home: no screen response. I had to pull the battery and power up again. Nice!
Finally, the battery life is utterly horrible for me -- and I'm not sure why. Currently at 26% battery life (now 8h 4m since unplugged). 34% of the usage is "display", which has been on for 28m total. 22% is cell standby. 15% is phone idle. 10% is voice calls (2m 10s of that). 8% is the Android System. So on and so forth. Basically, I've *hardly* used my phone today, yet the battery isn't going to last thru to the afternoon. I have 6 active applications, with none of them hitting the CPU at all currently. Best of all? The battery icon looks like I'm about 1/2 full, so evidently Samsung couldn't be bothered to make that icon accurate. I know about the battery icon mods out there (I've used 'em), but I figured Samsung would take care of that.
Sorry for the venting, folks. Is anyone else seeing similar stuff? Any ideas on the lame battery life??
Thanks,
Yip
For me Android 2.1 which samsung released in Galaxy S is exactly like Windows Vista ! No matter how many updates you release for it still will make your phone **** !
The only option is to release a full new OS which is Windows 7 = Froyo !
Better than Windows NT = 1.6
Getting your phone bricked isnt the updates fault, there are hundreds of threads out there and reading just one couldve given you signs of warning.
As for your battery life, I am willing to bet your phone screen is full of widgets. Try limiting those, as well as automated syncing. I get excellent battery life that can EASILY last me the whole day (I actually find myself running avatar/pandora at the end of the night just to drain it so I can recharge the battery).
However, I do agree that the inaccurate battery reading should have been fixed a long time ago (or at least in this update) and that froyo should have been included with the release of this phone.
Your cell standy is too high which means you have things constantly using the cell signal to pull data, thus draining your battery. Right now I'm at 72% with 67% display, 14% voice calls, and 9% cell standby. Been unplugged for 3 and a half hours.
Not great but I'm purposely trying to let it die because I'm reconditioning.

Ha! You may just be right on that. Eclair seems like a fairly lame version of Android, if you ask me. Not horrible, but not great.

"Signs of warning" means nothing, my friend. There are folks who didn't even *root* that got soft-bricked with this update. It was (somehow) poorly handled.
As for your widgets comment, well... you would've lost the bet. I use a single screen, no widgets, no weather stuff, bluetooth off, wifi on (but currently turned off), and nothing extraneous. I run Android about as light & frothy as you can get! I prefer speed over just about everything.
Any other thoughts, though? Perhaps I should re-load Autostarts to see if there's anything strange launching at boot time...

Interesting. Any ideas what would be pinging the cell standby so much? I'm in a high-bandwidth area (full bars), so it's not like the phone is struggling to get signal. I use Gmail and Exchange, but my Exchange sync is set to "hourly", rather than push.
Doesn't seem like I'd need to disable my 3G connectivity. I certainly have never had to before.
You should probably reflash the update. JI6 was great on my phone, no hiccups, no lag, perfect GPS.
Also, you should recalibrate your battery after the update and give it a few days to settle down. I always get horrible battery life after flashing a rom, but after a few cycles I'm back up to 24h+.

Honestly, I wouldn't know unless I knew your full setup. What I will say is that I do have a lot of widgets and apps running that pull from the internet but yet my cell standby isn't as high as yours. I haven't reduced any of my sync intervals either. The 3G radio can really drain battery fast, faster than even the screen so that is a problem.
Also, in JI6, they increased the strength of the radio so it drains even more battery. I am running the JI6 modem however.
You should use something like WatchDog to see what is constantly running and using CPU. That could give you an indicator of problem apps.
Well, I'm disabling some startup items: Visual Voicemail, Telenav, and Daily Briefing -- none of which I use. Maybe that'll help. I don't know...
I was really trying to run "stock" this time around -- not so much fooling and tinkering with things, but it doesn't appear to be paying off for me. Frustrating.

Oh wow, yea definitely you need to disable all of those. That's the first thing I do. I actually uninstall Visual Voicemail, Telenav, Amazon MP3 etc. ALL of those things constantly run for some reason even without you opening them once.
You're not alone. My battery life is terrible as well after the update. I'm losing 4% an hour on standby.
That said, my phone is smooth and working great when I do use it.

I'm having terrible battery life as well.
i'm 24 hours unplugged, sitting at 27%
all stock JI6
Again, if you didn't do so after the update, wipe battery stats and then do a few full drain/charge cycles. My battery life always sucks after flashing a new ROM, but it always goes back to normal given time.

after the update for me, my gps is much better, but i actually have more lag then i had stock before....
so I need to either flash a kernel, lag fix, or a rom with at least one of those.... its kind of frustrating to have lag just from opening or closing a simple app, messages, or call... I honestly cant believe a phone with these hardware specs can have lag just from somthing as simple going into the dialer and exiting out...
Battery life seems to have decreased a little but still getting a good 20+ hours. GPS is a little better with use wireless networks. Lag is an issue now though. Didn't have much before a the update. Hopefully its solved in another update or froyo.

So I applied the update on Tuesday through Mini Kies. First experience with this update, it's been great. My phone seems to faster, really I hardly experience any kind of lag or slowdown (and this is in comparison with my stock vibrant running OCLF). Battery life even seems to be better, but that is probably to do with conditioning. So everything has been good except for the fact that my phone has froze on me TWICE today. I'm thinking it's something to do with the apps though. I was in Layar and it was working for a bit when suddenly, it froze, I didn't have to pull the battery I just held the power button down for a good 5-10 seconds and it restarted. The other time was in a game, which kind of concerns me. I suppose I can reinstall both and see how that goes. I'm thinking it has more to do with the apps possibly being corrupted. The first thing I did was install the 2.2 market on my phone and I ran the update all function on like 15 apps that needed updating. Not a good idea imo, the market went crazy and forced closed a couple of times. I'm not entirely sure what is going but it seems like my phone is only freezing in certain apps. I hope it's not just some random freeze that can happen at anytime, that wouldn't be no good.
You guys complaining about battery life... i would Love to have your times. I got 3 hours and 8 minutes today on a fully charged battery.

Wholy crap gingerbread has awful battery

I wouldn't even say I use my phone frequently. When I used the miui or however it's spelt rom I would have 60 percent to 30 remaining each day. On gingerbread? I'm down to 15 percent every day and every night my phone has shut off due to lack of battery.
Isn't there any rom with excellent battery life? That's all I want, I use my phone for tethering.
i put CM7-RC2 on my device yesterday and it's the best battery life i've ever gotten.
Gb battery life owns, u got something else going on
No he doesn't, i've measured religiously since the original nexus shipments and this is by far the worst
My battery was really bad but now it seems to last me 10hrs & up which is weird for a phone to last me that long. I really think theirs an app or bug running the battery crazy I don't use any task managers. Their was a thread somewhere saying to run your phone on recovery mode and to press on the reboot/restart and battery get better I did that so maybe it does work but I highly doubt it.
I can vouch for poor battery too. I am on CM7 RC2 and I can't even make it through a day with light use. By light use, I mean practally not using the phone at all.
My battery life seems to be better than ever. Some 10-20 percentage units more left in the evenings all down the line.
Edit: Stock GB, no task managers.

Did you happen to do an Update or a full install when you got gingerbread?
Some suggest that it's due to the update process.. so you might want to try a full install:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip
Remember to wipe your cache first..
What i noticed is taht custom roms use more battery than stock rom. this is for me i don't say that it is like this for everyone. But with gigerbread i got the best battery life. i also think using apps from SD uses also a lot of battery life, but again i have no other choice to low on memory.
bug
I had the same problem. I am on stock gb.
Just set wifi sleep policy to never. It will last 2 days after that. It is definetly a bug.
Seems to be a real mixed bag with GB on N1's. Lots of people saying "better battery" many others, myself included, reporting much worse. For me, I experienced very poor battery life right from updating to the stock GB using the singned passion .zip file. Even did a factory reset, and only reinstalled my daily used apps and it made little difference, then I went back onto a MIUI rom for a few days and battery life was wonderful again.
Then early this week I flashed to CM7 RC2, and for two days battery life was the worst I've ever had.
Had been seeing a few comments on different forums of people who had the same problem swearing black and blue that after they changed the wifi sleep policy to "always on" their battery life improved dramatically on Gingerbread.
I know if sounds backwards, and that is why I was sceptical for ages, but last night I made the change to see if it would make a difference for me today and all I can say is WOW!!! Phone had a real test today as I started work really early. As of right now the phone has been off charge for 16 hours.
Half a dozen or more voice calls, minimal text, my usual wifi and 3g data, about 10 min of streaming video over wifi and about 1/2 hour in total running Navigation.
There is no way in hell my phone would have done all that and even lasted me 8 hours prior to changing the wifi sleep policy - so I think there is definitely something in it.
As for the ppl who aren't noticing bad battery, maybe they already had theirs set this way - or maybe it's an issue only effecting certain batches of devices (like the wifi reconnect issue which seemed to be pretty common pre froyo)
it /WAS/ terrible at first. Really, really dire, but it's back to what it used to be, even better now perhaps.
To the OP, do you have WIFI turned on still? I used to leave it turned on and it didn't ever knock down battery as it was going to sleep and not coming back, so wasn't a drain. GB appears to have fixed this, and it was staying on, thrashing the battery.
Turning it off and turning it on as needed only, battery life is now fine.
Do you have WIFI Turned on? Bluetooth? For now, to try and test what's happening, turn off 3g, wifi, bluetooth, automatic date/time sync, and JUST use it as a phone for a day. See what % you're at at the end of the day.
Then we can take it from there.
But I'd be pretty certain that it's wifi related, in that it's now working as it should be, we just got used to it being broken before.
My phone on cm7 rc2 has worse battery than I used to have with wildmonks kernel and cm6.1. Yesterday, the phone was barely used until 8 o'clock at night. It was at 45 percent. After an hour medium use, its gotten down to 23 so I had to plug in the phone....the easiest fix? Keep a charger In the car!

Using stock Gingerbread and I can say that my battery life is decent, better than Froyo for sure. The phone lasts longer than 16 hours and I use bluetooth to listen to music for 1.5 hrs on my commute home. By the time I get home after a long day (8pm'ish), I still have about 20 to 30% left.
I have no wifi no bluetooth no gps and a dim screen.
Tis is seriously crappy battery life.
Does anyone think they can link me to a good miui rom. For me, it seems that gb just wont work.
I am running stock gb then i flashed the root and my boot loader is unlocked.

Listen to this person!
For some reason, since 2.3.3, if you have your Wifi policy to sleep when the screen is off, Android will rip through your battery. You'll notice Android OS taking all the battery on the status page.
Set the sleep policy to never and you get better battery life again. Turn off Wifi manually when you're not using it, even better. Until somebody fixes this bug, I guess it's the only workaround we've got.
More info: check issue 15057 on code.google.com - cant post link due to the newness of this account.
Same here on shorter battery life my nexus one as well post gingerbread ota... I will look into detailed system processes and try to find out why...

R800x 2.3.3. battery life absolutely deathly

Okay so I posted here a week or so ago about how my Xperia Play was epicly failing....it was force closing everything and dying in just hours.
So I factory reset and used Titanium to restore all of my apps and stuff...and so far the crawling speed/force closing has for the most part abated (opening up texts and contacts still sometimes takes forever or force closes)
but the battery issue remains. My battery is absolute garbage at the moment. It drains by 10 percent per half hour if being used or even more!! And it gets hot constantly, and obviously at that time it really sheds the power and dies quickly.
If I'm CHARGING the phone WHILE using it heavily, it WON'T power ABOVE the % it started at!! It stays constant or goes down!!
I'm not sure what to do. Should I let the phone die, keep it off, and charge it while off till its 100%?
Or maybe my phone is approaching the situation it was a week ago...I constantly check the running apps and its the usual suspects, nothing crazy. I had to delete official facebook app because it almost ALWAYS lagged and oftentimes force closed.
It says cell standby is using 40%, wi-fi using about 22%, voice calls 17%, phone idle 15%, and dialer 14%
What happened to my phone? Why is it such a clusterf*ck lately? Any ideas/advice?
Are you leaving wifi on because that will really suck the battery down? Also do you live in an area with bad signal? Put it in airplane mode and see if the battery still discharges as fast.

My r800x dies in 6 hours whether it's on airplane mode or not. I've re calibrated the battery like 5 times so far, and it just won't get better. I'm regretting moving to verizon to this. I should just get a sim card and go back to my HTC Inspire. I can leave the r800x in idle with the screen off, while in airplane mode and it will still die in 6 hours. It doesn't even last a whole day of work. Mine's also rooted. I need some serious help with this phone.
Turn off wifi.
If you have it on it will search for wifi networks all of the time (unless you're home and connected to your own wifi) and it will suck your battery dry.
I don't even use wifi. I don't have access to the router at home, and my data is turned off when I'm not using it.
Perhaps you have a bad battery? Maybe replacing that will solve the issue.
It could be. Every time I try to check my battery's health, no matter what app I use, or even if I do it from the service menu it reads at "unknown". One app says that my phone doesn't even have a battery stat service, or something along those lines. I was considering just buying one of those mugen batteries for my phone, considering that I brought the issue to verizon's attention, and they told me they were gonna send me a replacement battery, but I never got it. This was all about 2 months ago though.
wow, sounds bad. mine will last all day, its an r800x on 2.3.3 as well but i can use it like normal, play about a hour of games on it, talk on it a lot, use wifi and 3g and do some average surfing and it will last at least 24-30 hours...
i'm thinking it must be a bad battery as well
Im running 2.3.3 verizon from the FTF and my r800x would last almost 3days, and thats with texting/talking/surfing using 3g and playing a shyt load of sonic . I would replace the battery with a genuine Sony replacement, dont ever buy a ebay knock off ! Furthermore, I don't believe apps that check your battery health are accurate at all, so dont waste your time.
Best way to check (imo) - Before you charge it up, let it go to 0% and die. Boot recovery and wipe the battery stats, turn the phone on and charge to full. After its fully charged, let it sit 10-15 mins on charge. Then pull of the charge and use normally, if it still dies fast, replace the battery.
If this idea was already posted sorry for double post

I swapped mine out for similar issues. The replacement doesn't have the same issues yet but I haven't put a single app on it. I can't say that adding apps caused it before because I remember it similarly not getting anywhere when charging while using. I also experienced it dropping while charging but it turned out to be a that the MTP device wasn't starting on the PC so it showed as plugged in and charging even though it wasn't (check the Device Manager). My Alienware M11x actually supports charging devices off that particular USB port when it is turned off so it was a bit hard to figure out when it seemed to charge some times and not others.
So I got a new battery. Battery life oz still terrible, phone still can't detect battery health.
Not sure why, but my battery voltages are higher than 3.6 :/

Hate to tell you but it sounds like your Play is defective.
The only way it would always get hot like that is if it was always running, that would be mainly driven by being in a REALLY bad service area that its always searching. I have a boatload of games etc on mine and my battery life varies from 2 days to 3/4 of a day depending where I am. Heck my battery life varies as to whether I leave my phone on my desk at work or on the shelf above me (lasts longer on the shelf).
But the fact you said that even in airplane mode it eats the battery, and a new battery didn't do the trick. I would say you got a bad one. Still under warranty I hope?
i'm not entirely sure. I got mine through verizon in august or september of this year. Not sure if Verizon would handle replacing it, since I didn't buy their extended warranty. I read somewhere that SE themselves can handle it since it's not a year old yet, but my phone is kinda required for work.

[Q] epic just went haywire - suggestions?

Been running Clean GB BML rom (latest version) since it came out and haven't had any problems. Battery has been decent (not grand but not bad), and its been pretty snappy.
All of a sudden this morning i take my phone off the charger, as I do every day, and the battery meter is basically just counting down and draining. The phone lasts about 2 hours and its practically dead. I charge it up at work and again the battery is draining like crazy. I popped the battery out and cleared battery stats, no luck at all. Battery is smoking hot too.
So in an effort to hold on to juice, i fire up juice defender. This of course helps some, but still draining. And then it starts getting VERY laggy. A text comes in and the screen won't rotate for 10 seconds after popping out the keyboard and things like that.
I haven't installed any new apps in the last few days. I really haven't done anything unusual or different than I normally do.
Any ideas what might be wrong? Battery gone bad over night? Phone is actually dying?
I'd rather not have to flash a new rom, but of course if i have to i will.
help! lol
You might want to try odining to stock, rerooting, and reflashing cleangb.

I'd rather not have to flash a new rom, but of course if i have to i will.
help! lol

I had this issue, except for me, it started to last 6 hours, then in December lasted for 2 hours, and before new years it lasted 30 mins. I went ahead and ordered an Epic Touch 4G battery and it's back to the norm of 12- 1 day battery. Do try Marcusant's advice, but if you ask ME, as surprising as it may be, batteries don't last forever and it sounds a lot like what was wrong with mine. They're made to last about a year or two. Buying a new battery won't hurt, and if its fixed with Marcusant's advice, having a spare will only help for when it does eventually die.

Thanks. I think I will go ahead and get a new battery. I get a free one from best buy black tie anyways. It can't hurt.
Worse case scenario it gives me an excuse to load up cm9 ics lol.

My Dad has been flying RC airplanes for yearsssss.... I mean like sences they came out in the 60s & he/we have worked with every type of battery there is on the market & to me that sounds like a dead battery ;-)
Let us know how it works out. I really would like to know if it really is a bad battery.

Well ready for a crazy unexplained answer. The phone seems to be working just fine today. Really really strange yesterday. I'm still going to get that new battery since I get a free one from BB anyways.
My crappy chinese battery that I bought on ebay a year ago is dieing on me, the phone just shuts off randomly. I don't mean shuts down from low battery, I mean literally the screen goes black and it won't turn back on until I pop in my other battery. Kind of annoying, especially when it says I have like ~60% left

That use to happen to me on my bad oem after I kept trying to turn it on past the 30 mins. Also another good indicator of a battery not holding charge is if you notice its got juice, and when it "dies" on you, it claims to have none, then it magically charges in about 15 mins.

Be careful with that. They sent me these crap 1200 maH batteries. I went through 3 of them before 1 would work. I got fed up and called them and they said if I bought an OEM battery somewhere I can fax them the receipt and they will reimburse me. And they did. Got a genuine OEM from Ebay for $12.

Hot priv (not warm)

I know I'm not alone on this one, I have to constantly cool down, it's totally intermittent and it's scalding....I hope it will be fixed soon and not just a myth. the folks at ATT said it had something to do with being more green. I think if an app is spinning in the background, it should be told to stop....
Mine gets very warm very quickly, but hasn't (yet) gotten hot. Certainly not "uncomfortable to hold" hot, anyway.
yeahh, i just received the phone and there are a lot of downloads an updates, but the phone is really hot. with a normal charger i hane no charging at all. the drain is bigger than than the energy from the charger.

I have been told by BlackBerry tech support the heat temperature flare ups could be caused by the encryption that is being done in the background.
Mine doesn't get to hot but it does get as warm as my note 5. I purchased egrip stickers from amazon to improve the grip and it has also helped with the comfort of the amount of heat you feel while holding the device in your hand and my pocket
I found a great app called "ShutApp" It let's you shut everything down that's running in the background. I have 117, It's running so much cooler now and the battery is lasting longer.
It's still not fixed got very hot in airplane mode plugged in at 100%, it dropped to 97 still plugged in So it must be something to do with charging.. It also just comes and goes as I'm working or watching a video...but sometimes under the same load it stays cool....
12/7 3rd party Camara apps are really cooking, and with short use maybe there should be a handwarmer app (lol)
12/11 I'm sad that this is electing my future non removable battery's life! ..at 100% I reboot in airplane with no apps running in background and plugged in it returned to 99% and started baking.. this is a power problem......
Yes my BlackBerry does get hot for no reason. All my apps are shut, last night i had it in my pocket and i felt it on my leg very warm. As I'm typing this right now i also feel it in the middle back of the phone. I really hope they fix this. As for battery life i am very disappointed, I thought it was supposed to be 22 hours and my lasts like 8 to 10 hours. I even got myself a Aukey portable battery charger and Aukey quick charger, it does charge fast like 1 hour and 30 minutes but it also drains quick. Apparently what drains it the most if being connected to WiFi. Really hoping they find a root for this or fix all these problems or I'm going back to Samsung.
the last update is solved this problem?
Serious hot spots have occurred in Airplane with minimal background while just working on a pic or document.. This is a serious problem and is leaning towards being a hardware issue.. Even though it helps to run an efficient system .. IT should be able to tell whatever when it is getting that hot to cool off....
I will hope to exchange it a third time But not until I know the replacement they give me isn't nt just another of the same....

The priv is the very first of its kind but here are some things you can do to cool it down
1: Turn The Brightness Down- most phones tend to heat up because the battry is pushing alot of power to the screen to make it brighter
2:Android: The Priv is the first blackberry not running the original OS; It's now running on Android Marshmallow which has a lot of animations and alot mor functionality so this could also cause it.
3: Replace The Battery: Yes I know it's the battery that came with the phone. I have 3 friends with the priv and when 2 of them went from stock battery to generic there phone did not turn into a brick out of the oven!
I hope this helped!

i had this issue for the first 2-3 days of getting the phone. disabled a few of the 'neat' settings ( wake on pick up, bb keyboard predictions, using swiftkey instead of bb keyboard, maybe a few others ) and since then it doesnt even get warm, like at all.. had it on for 20 minutes playing a youtube video and the phone was still cool...
Bought mine 2 weeks ago, it does get pretty hot (to the point of not touching it sometimes).
Only when I play games or snapchat, browsing internet doesn't heat it too much.
Especially when charging, so I try not to use it as much.
But the battery drops the same so it doesn't matter much, I just let it cool down and continue
Are you on any marshmallow rom ?
I haven't had any problems while using marshmallow.
