I'm sorry to report, but Orange will now be shipping out devices with an Orange ROM. No Google Earth, changed quick-app icons and who knows what other modifications... I couldn't find any... Well, there's a GPS Settings thing, but it only shows about Assisted GPS which I'm sure I saw in the other ROM.
Still comes with an 8GB Transcend memory card and nothing extra in the box. If you're getting one in the next few weeks, make sure the barcode at the top says GHTN. If it says OHTN, it's the Orange ROM.
google earth??
Why do orange ruin perfectly good phones? They also did it to S60 Nokia's which is why ive avoided orange for the last 6 years.
Orange are alright but their ROM-faffing is just an exercise in self-importance that is not appreciated.
so mess with the rom and terrible web browsing limits
I'm happy to report that I just received my orange HD (ordered the other day when they came back in stock on the web shop) and it's not got a messed up ROM (box has the GHTN code as described above). As far as I can tell there is no orange branding anywhere at all. Makes me think that the current batch might be with stock ROMs ... get your order in quick ???
Orange recieved 5000 new phones a week monday ago. about 3 days ago they were available for delivery. mine was one of them and its only orange branding is the rear cover. and TBH this in not an issue as i like the logo on the cover. the rom is standard with all the trimings....
Once again
Google Earth????
If you buy from CarPhoneWarehouse you will get unbranded and unlocked.
Even on an Orange contract.
I've no idea how long this will last though.
Ah yes, forgot about the little orange logo on the rear cover. So it's "no orange branding anywhere at all ... except for the logo", though I was actually thinking about the software rather than the hardware when I wrote that.
Info update
Don't worry about the hadset being Orange Battered... sorry, i mean branded (lol) to much folks. If you haven't been snooping aroung the development side of the forum that much, let me bring you up to speed.
The Hard SPL is out. I just change my ROM (as you'll see on my signature) without any worry whatsoever.
The odd thing is, i never had an Orange ROM on mine. I had a standard one and i HAD to change it for one simple reason... something i advise all people to do as a matter of fact.
Why? Well during texting, stylus or hand input, the thing would freeze more that a very sick penguin. It was AWFUL
Have a peek at other ROM's that are about and if you need advice, ask about. I'm no expert but if you ask me, i'll try my best. It really was very very easy following Oli's Hard SPL thread.
Anyway, i've said my bit now. The rest as they say... is up to you!
TheShowStopper
There's a hotfix on the HTC support site to fix the freezing problem on all ROMs < 1.19.
If you don't want to go the Hard SPL route, surely you can flash the older Orange ROM? (That's what I've got and it not been Orangized.)

I can confirm the following. As long as you have the Micorsoft Net Framework on your pc, yes, you can flash any HTC ROM to the HD. I have just done this. See the following post of mine.

why
hi I am a complete nooby to WM (switched from an iphone).
My Orange box has the OHTN on so I guess I have the Orange Rom (as no google maps).
To be honest I find the HD to be quite slow when opening programs and seems a bit buggy as it seems to stutter on some operations
Whats the benefits for me of changing this ROM??

Hey there!
Havent you just answered your own question?
The benifts of changing the rom would be google maps (although a simple download could also fix that)
Also a handset that isnt buggy and stutters!
I have the orange ROM
didn't realise orange had been sending them out with HTC ROMs!
bluetooth is faulty
programs open slowly
blimmin opera has orange's naff front page
am loath to flash a proper ROM unless the bluetooth fault is
hardware and then I'd have to cover my tracks before sending it back
any help would be appreciated

You need to have a little patience, trying new roms out and tweaking - my handset is very fast now, it plays most video files I throw at it and gui operation i.e touch flo 3d and windows is about twice the speed of the stock rom...

Hi, What rom do you have flashed to yours and Is it possible to backup old rom just incase? Am not new to flashing actually, i just really need a fast device, maybe google map and some other little programs, pimbackup, etc.
I got my blackstone yesterday. Excitedly opened it up, fiddled with it a while, and flashed a new rom. It was a while before i realised that the phone woudlnt vibrate. Im pretty sure its a hardware fault, but just wanted to check here to make sure I havent missed something.
The phone wont vibrate, even when being called / txted with vibrate mode on. I also understand the hardware buttons are sposed to have some kind of haptic feedback or minivibrate, but this doesent work either.
I searched through all the settings, and couldnt find any magical turn on vibrate feature buttton. Vibrate notification is definately turned on, and so is the vibrate profile. I inittialy installed Panoshas Black Pearl rom. I tried a hard reset, and then also flashed the Dutty rom, and finally the original rom to see if it that worked.
Can anyone point out an obvious mistake ive made? Or am I gonna have to send my lovely blackstone back?
Thnx in advance.
Hmmm...you've already tried flashing a new rom and if you still have the same problem, send it in. It's still spanking new, shouldn't be a problem getting it rectified....or better yet ....replaced!
Was it vibrating when you recieve it, on it's original ROM ?

thnx for your response, i think ill probably do that.
its pretty annoying to have to send it back already lol, but its worth it to have a working vibrate.
A Second Opinion
Yep, I got my Blackstone a week ago today and it vibrated just fine out the box. I have not flashed any new ROMs, but I have installed plenty of programs including .net 3.5 and mobilmagic button stuff and hd tweak, installed and uninstalled advanced config and a few keyboards, the list goes on. Long story short, my vibrate doesn't work either! I think this is due to my tampering with it though, I really do. Also, I saw another post where someone had the same problem, he ended up getting his to work after playing with .net 3.5, hard resetting more than once and soft resetting too. So try that, let me know what you find out! I plan to hard reset and flash new ROMs soon, so I figured maybe these problems would go away then. Oh and, anybody else have a problem where their end key doesn't end the call, ? This is such a tinkerer's toy, lol!
Probably a good warning about flashing ROMs! Did you backup your original ROM? I think you will need to restore your original ROM before you send it back for "repair". (Otherwise it is likely you will be charged for any work/replacement - justifiably!)
Before you despair, what ROM did you flash it with? Have you contacted the developer about it? It may be a setting in a tweak you don't know you've installed. Have you tried playing Tweeter (the vibration feedback when the ball collides with a wall will indicate a working/non-working vibrator).
Rather than just offer bad news to you and tell you it's your own fault, here is a helpful tut on How to backup ROM, albeit a little late maybe. It may not be all doom and gloom - some kind soul may be able to offer you their backup ROM (particular to your mobile provider) which you can use to restore it to factory default before testing for the vibrate and/or sending it back for a fix. Who is your provider and what original ROM do you need?

thanks for the tip. i fiddled with .net framework 3.5 and more hard resets, and altho i have installed hdtweak and advconfig a couple times, ive done multiple clean flashes without them and it still dont work. in fact - as i said above, im 90% sure it never did work, so im convinced its a hardware fault.
i hope yours wroks after a rom flash, but i think mine is gonna have to go back...

yeah - i definately played tweeter even before flashing any roms, and there was no vibrate - so i guess that proves it really is the hardware.
i bought my phone from mobilephonesdirect, but have my rom backed up, so should be ok.
ta for the offer tho.
Mine was the opposite, it wouldn't stop vibrating, even when switched off.
You had to take the battery out to get it to stop.

yes I would love for you to keep me updated, I purchased mine through ebay from addictedtophones.com, which is out of California. They seemed like nice people but they sure aren't wanting to help my broken vibrate after only 8 days! That is just sad my friend. I have also contacted UK and US support and HTC global repair service. They have indicated that they are looking in to it. Apparently the US section may not have the resources to work on the device. I requested that they replace the phone, if they couldn't work on it ASAP, the person seemed to agree and put the request forward. I hope that helps your situation. I spent too much for a broken stone!

I received my new replacement Touch HD in the mail a little bit ago, it vibrates. It must have been a hardware issue best I can tell. I just about had to send it off to HTC, but I finally got the retailer to replace it. It actually took a lot of crap just to get HTC USA GLOBAL repair center to want to accept the idea but, I called UK HTC and they called HQ in Taiwan or somewhere and got something done. So if you need some help, Ive got a few contacts that can help, anyone can just let me know. I hope this doesn't become a widespread infection.

I'd say it's probably a hardware issue. My first HD also didn't vibrate, and had to exchange for a new one. Probably some issues with one of the batches.

Hi, guess what, two weeks ago I got a new phone, the famous HTC HD2 (leo). I was so proud, I had read so many good reviews about this phone, and I just loved it. Played with the phone night and day, but then it started. The second weekend I had it. I sent four texts (yeah, I have no friends) I was thinking they arrived but (hence I don't have any friends) I thought they didn't answer. But on friday (05.03.2010), my brother called me, asking me about the text, I did not understand, but it seems like it waited 1 week to send a text message. Then my friend rang, about the same (but with the text i wrote to him of course), I did not know what to do! Also my brother called me like 1 week ago, i slided the most awesome button to the left, to answer the call, and guess what? The cell froze, guess what it did yesterday too? Yeah, it froze again.
Does every hd2 live its own life? Would it help to hard reset it? (even though I can't seem to find the "erase all" key)
I have other problems with the phone aswell, but can't seem to remember what they were.. hmm...
If some one does not understand what I'm trying to say: My cellphone freezes when answering a call, also won't send texts when I tell it to.
Can anyone help a friend out? I don't know where else to turn than a forum.
Is this the best phone or what!
What ROM do you have on the phone now?
Nothing that you have described seems unresolvable in the least bit. You are in the right place to make your HD2 live up to its reputation, and it certainly is not hard to do.
IF you can provide any details about your current ROM, etc. that would be a good place to start helping you.

upgrade to the latest 1.66 rom
Hm, first of all, how do I check what rom I have. Second how do I upgrade it?
1. Settings (on slide bar)>About Phone>Software information
2. Either from HTC direct or from your vendor
Thanks, "please contact your supplier first before upgrading." Aint got time for that.. Hope this will help
So you're not going to check? Are you in the UK?

You don't need to waste a cent, or a second of time calling anyone. The won't help you. They'll tell you to reformat your phone, and the problems you described will return.
You came to the right place for help with these issues. Technical support is typically worthless, as usual. Just take some time to read the info provided here, and in just a short time, you'll be happy with your investment.
Hi,
I have recently purchased my HD2 and its been a couple of months now since I'm utilizing it. Barely exploring my phone features, it hangs 20 times in view of the following encountered predicaments :-
1) Receiving 2 simultaneous SMS
2) Receiving an MMS
3) Pressing on any of the keys on the phone whenever receiving an SMS
Well, the list goes on and on. So, in resolving this issue, SIS (Malaysia) had agreed to change a new phone for me. And so they did. Tested it on the spot and everything was working fine, but just after a few days later, the problem reoccur itself again. This time, the entire phone hangs up. No keys can be activated, neither the phone can be turned on.
Firstly, its a brand new phone, so this kinda problem should not arise. Secondly, its no doubt troublesome to flip the back cover and press the tiny red button to perform a soft reset. Why in the darn first place the soft reset button isn't placed outside ? (just liky my old TYTN II)
So I have read a couple of forums with regards to this matter and came upon two conclusions in the end. One, the Manila.exe is the main culprit towards the hanging of the device and two, the HTC Sense application program has a flaw in between. Well, there's a temporary workaround though (that is if you do not want to flip the back cover over and over again), which is to leave the phone idle for 48 hours, let the battery drain itself off and then recharge back the phone again.
48 hours is a long time to wait though, and as a professional worker in my line of work, I really do not have that much of an ample time to linger around waiting for it to run out of juice. I'm totally very much dissapointed with the purchasement of the HTC HD2 as not only the technicians at the SIS (Malaysia) could not get to reproduce my predicaments, they cant even get to solve the hanging issue which I'd reckon, that's what I've been spending most of my time on my new phone (rather than to explore what is has to offer)
Is there a work around to the HTC Sense / Manila.exe problem ? Other suggestions would be to turn off the HTC Sense, but you know what ? Turning off the HTC Sense will be something like buying an Aston and driving it at 40kpmh all the way till the south of France !!! The phone's interface will be dull, and not to mentioned, it will be more a less pictured like my old TYTN II
I do not really have such problems for the HTC TYTN II though, not even one hang moment. Please XDA developers / experts, I'm indeed begging for a solution in resolving this reoccuring problem that somehow not only it will tarnish the brand HTC, it will also loose faith of the end consumers in the market.
why don't you ask SIS to change the phone again?
Just want to say one thing ... "Stock ROM's Suck" , hate to be that blunt but the stock ROMs they put on this beautiful hardware just seem to be time bombs, waiting to explode when you get them home ...
Should flash that sucker!!
To dan138zig
Well, that was my last resort to them, in order to solve it once and for all. I've been travelling to SIS to and fro for 4 times and yet the problem is still left unresolved. They've even tested it in their environment and it works fine (for the 1st two visits). But somehow, they manage to simulate the issue and they replaced the chipboard.
Now, replacing the chipboard was to the previous original phone, though even after the replacement, it still didnt solve the problem. So ding dong here and there, and after several "consultations" with their higher level managment, they agreed to change a new phone for me, off the hook (not undergoing formal procedures, whereby I'll have to wait for another two weeks)
So, getting a brand new phone I'd reckon my miseries will be resolved, but then the hanging problem reoccur itself today again. It seems that the HTC Sense is the main culprit though, after reading a few forums off the Net. And for a "premanent" solution (that is if HTC does not come out with any ROM / fixes / enchancements), I've gotta turn off the HTC Sense feature.
Well, buying a phone that cost 2K plus had already put a large damage in my wallet, now having to face this consequences after the purchasement is a real icing on the cake. What do you think ? If you're in my shoes, what would you do ?

Have you tried getting a new SIM? Sounds like the problem only happens when its talking to the network, and as you've had 2 handsets, i'd give a SIM change a go.
On the plus side........... at least you get 48hrs battery life.......
Not much use though if your phone doesnt work I suppose.....

Well, my SIM's working perfectly fine though, it does not give me any form of problem with my old TYTN II neither with other HTC devices I've checked with a few friends of mine. I do really suspect its the Sense that's the real culprit in the hanging of the device. Just really hope that they clear up this predicament with a new release of the ROM

haha, forty eight hours of baterry life ? well, I wouldn't bet on it. Have tried using it extensively and even before it reaches sunset, the battery is out. And guess what ? It's a brand new battery.
The phone's terrific, but sadly, the battery isnt. Its just like you are viewing a beautiful girl from bottom up till the next and the next thing you know it, viewing her face just makes you wanna vomit over and over again
So that's how I could sum up the HD2 as a whole. Most comparison commentators out there did place the HD2 side by side with the IPhone 3Gs. Both eventually also will end up running out of juice in 48 hours when you're performing your day to day call basis

The HTC Support and Releases still does not solve the problem, mate. Its something that HTC R&D as well as the QA team needs to sit down and extensively test the entire device from bottoms up till all forms of problem is resolved thereafter.

I just got my HD2 back from repairs after 1 month now, I had the problem where the phone freezes up when I recieve calls. This got fixed, and I have not noticed any of the symtoms I had earlier. But now...
1. The FM-Radio does not work.
2. When I connect my phone to my computer, my computer sais: "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. for assistance in solving this problem, click this message." And just connect - disconnect - connect - disconnect.
3. When I turn on my cellphone, I get a warning: BTTrayCE er ikke et gyldig Pocket Pc-program. (BTTrayCE is not a valid Pocket PC-program in English)
It just kills me that the phone that actually won the "Mobile of the year '09" by Amobil.no, sucks more than the Iphone.
Should I just send my phone back to repairs again, or do you guys have any idea how to fix this without using another month in repairs?

First off, I'm sorry to see that your phone is having these issues. Mine has worked like a charm ever since I installed the first custom ROM.
Now my question; have you HSPL'ed your phone yet?
You could try installing another (custom) ROM and a newer radio version to see if it helps.. It might aswell fix your problems.

I did use HSPL before I sent my phone to repairs, but it did not fix any problems, therefore I do not believe in HSPL'ing anymore.. I did not notice any difference at all, after installing a custom rom, or radio..
I see.. Have you tried Task29 yet? (Formatting it completely)
And then installing the latest Radio + a custom rom? (Before trying this, be SURE you have HSPL'ed it!)
If you've already tried that, I think the only thing you'd be able to do is to get a huge stone (or your HD2 itself), put a note on it saying 'It still does not work properly', and throwing it through the window of any HTC office in your country .
Or just open a ticket/calling them saying it still doesn't work and that you demand a replacement/new phone, as how it is now it's kinda an expensive brick.

Do HTC even bother about their customers? Doesn't seem so, seeing that if the cellphone should have any problems of this sort, they say you will get a new phone. But rather getting a new phone, I got the old one back, in worse condition than before.
Also, I wonder if they can check my problems? Because we have a law in Norway, if the same problem occours after 3 times repaired, you can either get a new phone or money back (same with all other electronics). So could I just lie and say I have the same problem + the new problems? **** the ethics ..

I just don't dare to do this, I have hacked TomTom, but this seems too dangerous, I'm still a noob in cellphone programming and stuff...

Task29 isn't that risky.. Just run HSPL again and get that done, then run the packed exe as found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781. As long as you press the VolDown button when it restarts, you will be totally fine. However in your case, I'd indeed not expect much improvement, as it really seems to be a hardware problem.

I think it is all the same with those big corporations. One customer, who cares? As long as their phones sell, why would they bother? Same story all over again.
I'd go for the three strikes = new phone way. However, it does suck to have your phone taken away from you for another month or so..
sorry mate..mine works like a charm since day one must be just u it still is the best phone
lmao it has some disadvantages (like tft screen,no tv out/hdmi out/crap loudspeaker) but lmao its still better than most phones out there
Load the latest HTC stock ROM from their website, looks like yours is quite old.

Guess what, it is the lastest stock, I just checked it.. Norwegian atleast, and I don't bother using other languages (even English). Just posted a ticket on HTC.com/no, and then I will send it to repairs again, and again, and then I'm changing to a Samsung Galaxy S..
I've heard Samsung support is even worse than HTC..
But indeed, the Galaxy S does have features that our phone lacks.. Still, I think the HD2 looks more sexy.

The HD2 looks way better, I do agree. But my brother bought himself a samsung galaxy s, and he's going to start making games and apps, so he could teach me a little bit, and if I have problems, I could go to him rather than sending it to repairs, (not all problems are easily solved on the intarwebz) and then I'd get rid of Windows Mobile..
Sorry to hear that you have such hard issues with your HD2.
3. When I turn on my cellphone, I get a warning: BTTrayCE er ikke et gyldig Pocket Pc-program. (BTTrayCE is not a valid Pocket PC-program in English)

I had the same issue too. TomTom replaces two BT files (Your bluetooth should not work by now) so the BT application can not start up properly. THIS fixes at least this problem (Use Resco Explorer or TotalCommander and unhide system files).
I hope you'll find help for your other issues, too.

I see, tho, will this problem only appear if you have hacked TomTom? Or with the real TomTom aswell? Just want to make sure before I send it back to HTC

How did you hack TomTom? Is that so you get free turn-by-turn navigation?

Well, instead of buying a licence, you hack it, using a keygen of some sort :S Didn't quite get what I did, but I used CMD to open a keygen and create a file :S Was weird, but hey, I did it... After 2 hours of trying
Easy when you know how, but im sure its not something that should be discussed on the forums. (WTB TomTom for sale from the australian site, as i feel its worth the cash)
anyway, darkkoushirou is correct regarding TomTom + Bluetooth.
I found it easier to install it to the SD card then factory reset. Once thats done i used total commander to simply copy a link back into your start menu.
Now that my custom ROM has XDA_UC i have set it to auto-copy the link back to my start menu after each rom upgrade
I know that when i got the handset i was trying many different apps, some of which caused issues. Once you get an idea of the ones you need, doing a factory reset is recommended. Then only install the 'good' ones.
