My HD suddenly developed this strange problem where even though the backlight is set to auto in the power settings, everytime after a soft reset, it will go back to manual. I then looked into the settings and the "Auto backlight" is still checked. What I then have to do is uncheck and check the option again and the auto-adjustment will be working again.
I have tried hard-resetting the phone but the same problem persists, i.e. it always starts in manual backlight even though "auto adjustment" is checked.
I think this can only be either a hardware problem or the ROM file on the phone is corrupted. Is it possible for ROM files on the phone to be corrupted?

This has happened to me in past and only solution I found was to flash another rom
I now noticed that it only happens when the charger is plugged in. Sounds very much like a hardware problem.
I am using the stock Telstra rom. Had flashed with the new Telstra rom but problem persists.

I recently got the ORA desktop cradle from expansys, cause I like to have my PDA charging next to my keyboard - it's a hangover from upgrading from an iPAQ. I like to have the machine permanently on and the screen backlight on full when it's the cradle.
Anyway I can't seem to make the setting in the both the backlight & power control applets to stick. I've unticked the turn off backlight box on the external power tab of backlight applet and unticked turn off device box on the advanced tab of the power applet.
This works for a day and then the next morning the boxes are ticked.
It doesn't seem to be connected with soft reset's though seem to stick through them.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
Cheers David
I had the same problem, hard reseted and problem gone
I think it was caused because I played a lot with some registry values, in order to make a custom cab with my prefered settings, and possibly I changed something that caused this.
Have u restored your settings form a backup? this can also be the cause, I guess...
Hi Pof
I've not restored any backups, but I do run programs like tweaks2k and wisbar....
It's really odd cause I soft reseted earlier and the setting's where ok and now after lunch they've gone back to being ticked.
Cheers David
Yes, I was having exactly the same issue you describe... I don't know how to fix it, but I got my backlight settings right again after hard reset and never had the issue again.
Of course the other problem that I had was that I installed phonealarm - the profiling program from Pocketmap http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html, which has a ability to set the state of the screen dependant on what profile you are in ...
Doh!
Cheers David
I got a locked screen when using the tytn. I think it went blank and I reset it - display went blank and is backlit

In my case, the system goes to sleep and the only way to wake it up is a soft reset. I have had this problem with other versions of ROMs as well, but it does not happen if I do not allow the system to go to sleep, thus I use my battery more quickly than I would like.
still puzzled
How do you stop the system from sleeping? Do you mean turning off??
I too have this issue. The phone will not "wake up" and the only way to continue use is to soft reset the phone. I am on Cingular with 1.34.
These freezes are often caused by active sync running all by itself. Providing you do not use push mail see the following thread:
see my post here - you need to follow each step carefully and consider the auto soft reset at a time before alarms are due.

When i lock the screen (s2u or default mode) with the button on top, the internet also seem to hang. My phone is configured to download my mails every 15 minutes, but it does not work until i unlock the screen. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Using the default ROM.
This is common. For many, their HD comes with certain power management features enabled. In short, your HD likely disconnects from the internet when you put your phone into standby as an attempt to conserve battery power, which is why your email doesn't check until you wake the phone up and it reconnects. I believe this is your issue. If your handy with a registry editor try this: HKLM\Comm\PPTP1\Parms\DisablePowerManagement DWORD=1. Then exit the registry and softreset.
Or you can install Schapps Advanced Config and disable PPTP under his "Power Management" drop down.
Hope this helps
I've checked that setting, but it's already on 1. I think i already disabled it a while ago, when i tried to fix this issue.
Might be a stupid question on my part, but in phone settings do you have a data tab? For one reason or another, some do some don't. You may already be aware of this so please bare with me if you do, but there is a box in that tab that gives you the option to disconnect data in standby. At least there was for me on the default rom.
Another thought is to install Schapps Advanced Config, and under power management, instead of disabeling only PPTP, disable all of them and see if your data connection remains active in standby. If it does, then you can go back and enable each one until you find the culprit. It may also be helpful to assign a sound to "data connection established" and "data connection disconnected" under settings "Sounds and Notification" so at least you can hear a sound when your data disconnects in standby and also count how many seconds it takes to do that. There is also a timeout setting in the power management for battery power and AC. You might want to see if those help. In the past I set both to 60.
Also HD tweak has a setting that allows you to keep your data connection on "always". If it stays on doing that then at least we know it wasn't a power management issue.
Last thought: is there perhaps some software or a lock program you have installed that might be causing this?
I'm out of ideas. It seems like something simple that I'm not thinking of. If I do, I'll post it.
Always on mode does not solve it, will try the other program. Thanks for the help!
edit: nothing seems to solve it. I guess i will try to update to WM 6.5 custom rom, what is the most used version? (i'm new to custom roms)

Most used wm6.5 roms would be Miri's and Duttys
Hi, does anyone experience the same thing? HD2 turns off and can't be turned on again. Have to remove the battery for it to be able to turn on, it looks like its stuck in power saving mode.
it is also known as the 'sleep of death' by the xda-people.
just go find a better ROM or radio or check which app is causing the issue.
or do a search. Im sure youll come up with lots of solutions since its quite a common problem.
It shouldn't be hard
good luck

Could it be the below setting that is the cause.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585289Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Today > Items
The setting "Today timeout", at the bottom left hand corner,
should not be selected/enabled.
Hi, thanks for that little info. Yes it was enabled, will see if it does it again. Had it since November and never had any issues, but to turn on the phone I had to remove the battery.
Will see thanks.
My phone switches off almost every day now and sometimes several times in one day. I've used about 6 different Artemis roms (I don't think it's rom related) and various radios and also tried MemMaid but still no success. Have just switched back to 8GB from my 16GB card in case that is the problem. Update:switched from 16GB to 8GB card and phone has not switched itself off.
Hey, sup?
The flash in my HD2 camera doesn't work! nothing I did, turn it to Auto, or always, or never, and then Auto again, nothing worked.
Any ideas?
tnx,
Elioravr.
is battery level lower than 25(or maybe 30)% because it gets auto disabled.
No, it always doesn't work... also when the battery is full...
hey, I had this issue too. Mine seemingly resolved itself, although I wanted to blame the BsB camera modes tweak.
Do you have any other software running/installed?
Have you tried a reset?
Happen to me also , I solved it by using clear storage in the setting option. Remember restore all you data and contacts before using this option. I recommend to use ''microsoft my phone'' as you will restore your exact files and contacts setting.Using clear storage will format and install new WM OS.
I've tried to turn off and turn on my phone, and it didn't work...
how do i save everything in my phone if i want to do hard reset?
install a flashlight program to check if the flashLED will work that way, If not, your set might be broken.
can someone give me a download of a flashlight program, please?
