When i connect the phone to my computer it dosent start active sync. It automaticly shows as a usb hdd. Think i put the phone on "Disable Popup when i it gets connected to a computer with usb". But cant find a way to enable it again.
Tried to go on "internet > Active Sync" on the phone. But it dosent help.
Windows Mobile 6.5 "Energy Rom".
I can aslo say that with the other "phone" i have. My work mobile. It automaticly starts.
TC,
Go under settings > Connections. It is one of the settings there which will ask you how you'd want the phone to react when a USB is plugged in. You can choose ActiveSync there.
Cheers.

I am wondering if someone can help me. I am using the HTC Herald with WM 6.1 -- ITsPapaBlack 6.1v2 -- and trying to use internet sharing while connected to my laptop via USB. My laptops OS is Vista Pro. It connects but once I close out of internet sharing and then just try to connect and use active sync, it will not connect to my phone. I have tried resetting both the phone and the computer to see if that would fix the problem but the results stay the same. The only thing that fixes this is a hard reset. This is the second rom I have had this problem with. Anybody's input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Craig
not sure if it will work for you, but what worked for me (HTC touch pro, custom ROM PROven):
1. go to Settings on your HTC, Connections, USB-to-PC, select ActiveSync radiobutton, uncheck the "Ask me first about...." checkbox.
2. connect your phone using active sync.
3. disconnect (unplug)
4. go to that same settings again. Now select the other radiobutton (DiskDrive), AND check the "Ask me first..." checkbox.
When you now again connect your phone, it will (hopefully) ask what connection you want to make.
Otherwise, try changing the order of the above actions.
hope that helps.
I had the same problem with my Touch Diamond. Simply make sure you uncheck the box "Enable faster data synchronization" in the same settings as mentioned above.
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
(for WM6.5)
I have been having this same problem for weeks. When I first startted using the Internet Sharing App on my kaiser, it worked great. But one day it just stopped. The status just always saud "Check Usb Cable Connection" even though it synced up fine with active sync. Well after weeks of lookinf for a solution, I found it!!!!!!
I am running windows XP pro SP2 and WM 6.1 HTC official. After you have active sync turned off and you connect the cable, make sure you are using USB and Media Net and hit connect and it still keeps saying "Check USB....".
With it still plugged in, on your PC RIGHT CLICK on my computer >> properties >> Hardware Tab >> Device Manager. Expand Network Adapters. You should see Windows Mobile-based Device with a red X on it. Double click it. The device usage box at the bottom was set to "Do not use this device (disable)". Change it to "Use this device (enable) and click ok.
And your status on your phone should change from "Check usb cable connection" to "Connected" and ALL SYSTEMS ARE GO!!!
I did not disable this option I do not know how it got disabled since this is on my pc at work, but it work as it did before.
same problem
I have the same problem, but the only thing I can think of is that it's because I am on a mac?? DO you think that could be the problem?
Thank you!
I've been chasing my tail with this for an hour. Should have checked here first!
You are the man
I have been plagued by this problem for weeks. I just moved, have no internet set up yet, and needed to get online tonight to look some things up. I thought I was doomed... until I found your solution.
Thank you and good job!
This has happened to me only a few times and I use IS all the time. I will try u'r solution next time it pops up...
I know not why but my HD2 has started going direct to Internet Sharing when I plug it into my PC.
This means I cannot get to use WMDC to sync or browse the storage via my PC.
I don't recall setting it to always connect for Internet Sharing & never ask again but could do with finding out how to reset this feature so it asks my preference for the connection every time.
Anybody know how please?
Open Start -- Settings -- All Settings -- Connections -- USB to PC.
In here you can change it to what you like as default, but there is a tick box at the bottom which stops it being shown etc.
Thanks for the reminder!! Doh!
However... the "Ask..." checkbox was already ticked!
Seems to beworking a bit better right now having un-/re-ticked each setting as I require & doing 2 restarts.
WMDC seems to be playing nicely again now.
Thanks
Eddie
my phone keeps saying check usb cord but everything is connected and i even used another cord. the laptop with Windows xp.
Hi there,
when I plug my phone into my PC, it doesn't connect anymore. It charges but I don't get any connection options on my phone and my pc doesn't see it.
Also tried resetting the phone, no luck.
Go to the settings tab and go to Menu, All settings, Connections, USB to PC and make sure that "Ask me first about USB blah blah blah..." is ticked. Also, tick whatever you want as the default USB connection type (ActiveSync, Disk Drive etc..)
Hope this helps
Activesync and "ASk me.." were already ticked. I tried changing the options and then changing them back to see if I could force it to take effect but no luck

I expienced the same problem, caused by TomTom Home. This piece of ugly written software started at boottime, preventing to use activesync (even when I choose not to be a drive). I disabled it and now it works perfect, whem I need TTH for updates I start it manually.

I don't have Tom Tom installed unfortunately!
When you choose diskdrive, is the HD2 then visible in your browser as an external drive?
No, but now I'm getting "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned" errors
I've tried in various ports on my pc
Try reinstall either activesync or mobile device center. Try also to connect the phone to another PC or laptop and check if the phone is responding ok (eliminate the good parts)

I think I've reached the problem. Dunno why it took so long to check this - it's so obvious. My new puppy is a bit of a chewer, and there's now some exposed cable on the wire. Enough intact to charge, I guess, but no data.
Typical type b-micro, yes? Can easily get a replacement.
[edit] Strange, it seems to have fixed itself. I get the menu now. Weird, but I'll take it.
When I connect my Touch HD to my computer it used to give me a choice of atciveSync, browse as hard drive, or internet sharing. There was a little checkbox "Don't ask me again". I never checked it but it must have become checked somehow because now when I connect ot my computer it always goes to internet sharing mode without giving me a choice. How do I get my choice menu back? Under "more options"->"Usb to PC" there is a checkbox "Ask me first about USB connection type when I connect the device to the PC". I have that checked but it still doesn't give me the menu choice. Any help would be appreciated.
