New mail indicator - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I have 4 accounts setup for email. Strange thing is that the mail icon always has a "1" on it indicating one new email but when I goto the mail screen all 4 of my account icons have nothing and I checked them all and nothing. Anyway to reset this indicator? Seems to be stuck on "1" It will go higher when new mail arrives but will not clear after I read all my mail.
Thanks

solution probaly
Got the same for a while (with 2 accounts configured).
Try to open outlook.
start - messaging
You'll see all your accounts and... outlook.
Probaly there's 1 email: "welcome to outlook, blablabla..."
Hope it helps

Thanks bang on. I never looked at the outlook one as I don't use outlook but it was there. I would delete it but it was used for the google sync setup. Indicator is gone now.
Thanks again

unread email count showing 1 unread message even when no account attached

hi there,
a friend of mine has got a very annoying issue with his hd(blackstone) he got it from orange uk and added his email account which pulled down his emails no probs, for some reason though now it shows 1 unread message on his touchflow (and on the front of s2u2).
I assumed it was the problem with when you go into the account and not read an email properly how it shows highlighted.
This wasn't the case, so ran FixUnreadCount.exe that ive seen from prior posts, this didnt fix it after a softreset.
so....
deleted the entire account still there,
readded a different account, still there,
deleted the account completely
soft reset ran FixUnreadCount.exe
soft reset, still annoyingly there!!
went to edit the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\sms\Unread\Count and made sure its set to 0
softreset and still!!! showing 1 unread email
can any one suggest anything else as im running out of hair to pull
thanks
I had this once. It was an unread email in the inbox of the 'Outlook Email' account which I had never used. It was 'Welcome to Outlook' or something like that.
Might be worth a look?
hi sadly its not even that

Are you sure?? I had the same problem just as evilskanker...and it had to do with Activesync and setting up a dummy exchange server to stop Activesync from running all the time. Deleting the server didn't make it go away. I had to go into Activesync, enable mail for exchange server and then delete the email that was sitting there, then disable the email again. The only other solution was a hard reset...

I'd agree with you as I had the exact same problem.
Hi, I had the same issue when I have done the fake exchange server trick to avoid having ActiveSync launched in the background.
Pehaps your friend has tried the fake server trick...
The way to fix your mail counter issue is to configure again the same fake server, and then, you go to your mails and you'll see a welcome mail in the exchange server inbox.
Delete it, and only then, you can delete the fake exchange server.
Because if you delete the fake server of the fake server trick without deleting the welcome mail, then you have the mail counter issue without any other way of getting rid of it.
ok, here is what you do...
Create an exchange mail account again. This time you will get a Microsoft welcome message again. Now go to your Inbox and tap the Inbox on the top left side to open folders. Then you would see the mail either in your deleted folder or any other folder. Go to that folder and delete the mail. The trick is to read the welcome mail and delete it so that it will not show as unread mail.
Actually, you can even access the Outlook folders without creating the mail account, just go to your SMS inbox and open the folder list from the top left as described above. Then choose the Outlook folder and expand, you would see the inread mail in one of those folders.

This method fixed it for me and I had tried all other options! I had originally only set up Exchange to sync with my Google contacts, but it still received a welcome email...which I had no access to as I had no email accounts set up on my phone!!
So, as above, I recreated my acount (as I had deleted it twice out of frustration) but this time enabled emails to sync also. Went into the email account and deleted the welcome emails of which there were now 3
I've got the same problem with my gmail account. It permanently shows 1 unread email but I'll be damend if I can find it. I've checked everywhere and there's nothing unread. When I browse to my mail folders, the unread one shows under gmail inbox and not under outlook email so I'm not sure if the solution above is relevant to me.
Basically I'd given up hope of fixing it, but if someone has a solution for the gmail account showing 1 unread I'd really appreciate hearing it!
Thanks

Try to go in your messinging application (not TF3D) an take a look at every folder. i guess theres the welcome mail from microsoft (the 1st you get after creating a new account). read or delete it an all will be good
I've done exactly that and can't find it anywhere. Not in TF3D it shows that the unread email resides in my gmail inbox. Makes no sense to me.
Any resolution here yet? I am having the exact same issue. It only happens when I have ActiveSync setup for my google contacts/calendar. I assume that TouchFLO for some reason thinks there should be a mailbox attached to that account, even though there isn't.

i think the problem (see first post) has been that he was checking the wrong registry key.
please check the following keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\OtherEmail\Unread\Count
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\sync\Unread\Count
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\totalemail\Unread\Count
HI,
I've got the same problem.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\totalemail \Unread\Count always comes to 1 even if I modify it!
Phantom Message
I had this problem too and it bothered me for a few days. I think you are having a hard time finding the outlook folder with the welcome message.
You need to get to the Windows Mobile inbox screen (not the touch flo screen)
You can get there by clicking inbox from touch flow or start>messaging
Look in the top right hand corner of the screen for the word "inbox". Click the arrow to the right of this.
Here you should see trees - there should be whatever account you setup (gmail, etc...), outlook and sms/mms.
Click the plus sign near outlook to expand it.
I bet you will see the blue 1 next to the inbox under outlook.
I hope this helps.
MOD EDIT
Thread moved to general discussion as not related to rom development
This happens when you add a non email Exchange server (Google Sync).
I just open the SMS inbox and slide to the right to find the 'Welcome Email' and delete it. Never comes back.
Saves creating the fake server or registry editting.
Yeah, this happened to me also. Brand new HTC Touch Pro2, wanting to sync with Google Calendar and Contacts, then I get this "phantom" unread message count. I attempted to connect to my Google Gmail account calendar & contacts via ActiveSync. I made a few mistakes along the way (had to delete & recreate connection once), but am now successful in connecting the phone contact & calendar list with Google. I selected ONLY the Calendar and Contacts to sync via ActiveSync.
The "new message" green circle icon now appears over the "mail" icon in the TouchFlo 3D UI, with the number "3". This number happens to correspond to the number of times I created (then deleted) the ActiveSync connection to Google Calendar & Contacts. When I enter the "Mail" selection (WM's 'Messaging'), I do have a Gmail account established (using IMAP4) but there exists no unread messages.
For a while, I was unable to get the "3" unread Mail message notification to cancel from the TouchFlo 3D UI. I have no unread messages (text or email). I've attempted to delete & re-establish my IMAP4 connection, but the situation remains. I have attempted to delete & re-create the ActiveSync connection to Google, and when I do that step, the phantom quantity of unread messages (the number in the green circle over the "envelope") increases by 1.
The fix mentioned above by VizagDude works. Here it is again with slightly more information:
From TouchFlo 3D's main screen, slide over to the "mail" icon.
click on Menu (bottom right of screen)
click on "Accounts >", then "Accounts...". This brings up the "Messaging" view
Select the "SMS/MMS" account entry (should be the first one in the list). You should see a list of text message threads that you've recently sent.
From the SMS/MMS menu entry, click on the dropdown arrow next to "Inbox" (top left of screen).
In this dropdown, you should see an entry in the tree called "Outlook E-Mail" in the list of folders. Click on the "Outlook E-Mail" entry in the tree.
Within "Outlook E-Mail", open the inbox folder, there will be a number of new emails titled "E-mail Tips and Tricks". (How kind of MS to secretly welcome us to the wonderful world of email )
delete those messages.
The count of unread messages will now match your actual unread messages from other email accounts that are on your phone.
I have the exact same issue, but unlike some of you I dont have problems with the Outlook acc I have, its with my private pop-account. It has a perpetual "1" attached to the inbox. I have cheched all paths to the inbox and there is no way fixing it. Last time hard reset did, but thats hardly favourable...
Agh! This bugs me. I have aboslutely no new email in my account. I've checked all folders. Under the mail app's folder tree it says 2 unread in my pop account's inbox, and says 2 on the touchflo tab. It was one for a while, and now there's a second one there. This happened to me on Dutty's before, now I'm on Miri's WM 6.5 Sense 2.5 v15.
Is there some way to fix this and ideally keep it from happening? None of the fixes above helped.

How can I delete Microsoft Outlook email account from handset?

Hi guys,
I got an HD2 last week (an outstanding phone so far) and immediately synced it up via Active Sync to my Microsoft Outlook email account. All the emails flooded in as they should. But now I can't update my emails wirelessly, only when I sync up. Thus I set up the same account again in it's original btinternet form. I hope you're still with me.....This account is fine and updates as it should.
So, at the moment I've got the same email account setup twice with only one functioning properly and, as the title of this thread suggests, I want to delete the non-functioning Outlook account from the handset if I can. I've tried all the obvious methods ie going to mail, menu, account settings, delete and selecting the Outlook account, but all I get is 4 coloured dots rotating on the screen and no joy. I left it overnight and the dots were still spinning this morning! I've also deleted all the emails in the Outlook inbox, thinking that maybe they were causing the delay but that hasn't helped. Are there any other options or am I doing anything wrong?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Thanks
bascially, connect it up to sync again, and then on the sync cilent you de-select syncing of mail. it will then remove it!
As easy as that eh? Yep, that worked! I'm new to all of this so thanks for the tip.
Now check for pink splodges on your camera pictures
No, none of those luckily! A bit of a pink tinge but once it focusses, the camera quality is actually quite good.

Gmail emails not deleting?

Hi everyone,
I have searched the forum for similar problems but can't find anything. I have my email set to check email every 15 minutes. Even after I delete the emails from my phone, when gmail is checked 15 minutes later, the emails return once again as "new". On the computer version of gmail, the emails are still unread in the inbox.
How can I set the "delete" on the email tab to actually get rid of the email? (preferable send the email to the archive function of gmail)
Thanks in advance.
anyone?????
I have the save problem
Use activesync (with push) instead of POP/imap, works perfectly.
Mine did the same thing until I changed my mail settings to say "delete from server" and also "immediately" if you don't change your delete settings to immediate then it wont actually erase the mail until the next time it connects and downloads it all over again.
GMAIL not deleting - Windows Mobile 6.5
I'm running WinMo 6.5 Cell ROM on a Touch Pro 2 from HTC.
I have exactly the same problem. I delete GMAIL messages from the Inbox on my handset. Next time the phone does a Send/Receive it brings down all the new mail again from the GMAIL server. Basically the handset is not marking mail as being deleted, nor is it marking the mail as read on the server.
I'm using GMAIL in MAPI/SMTP mode on the handset as this is what is accepted by default when setting up the GMAIL account on the device.
I've no experience of using ActiveSync/PUSH for mail. How do you set it up?

I use activesync to download all my messages from google, It also pulled my calendar and contacts to the handset too, I found the instructions by going to: wwwDOTgoogleDOTcom/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299 (wont let me post outside links, so Dot = .) Also on section 11 before syncing everything, I synced each item individually first then switched them all on as I was getting errors.
ActiveSync and PUSH MAIL for Google Mail is the best alternative for being able to hardly experience inbox and retrieval errors.
to delete emails go into your inbox and when you delete, use the left softkey (the bin icon) to delete and not the sense menu.
Gmail not syncing
I had the exact same issue. I searched forever until I found what worked for me. It appears to be an issue is you restore using nandroid. Here is the link on how to do it.
www(.)google(.)com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=113869
remove the () () of course.

Can't delete "invisible" email

Hi, I've searched but can't find an answer to my email problem:
I've got 2 POP email accounts set up on my phone, and until now have had no problems, but a couple of days ago the email tab on the ribbon at the bottom of the home screen shows I have one email in one of my accounts. However, when I go to that account no email is visible, so I can't delete it to get rid of the false notification. When other emails arrive in that account they are visible, and I can delete them when necessary.
This problem doesn't stop me using the phone, but it's a bit irritating - any help is gratefully received. Thanks.
I think it's due to active sync. Go to Outlook E-mail inbox. There should be an unread email in there.
Thanks for your speedy reply Myth1001, but I've already checked that possibility. When I say I've got 2 email accounts I mean 2 that I've set up: Audiosense.co.uk, my company, and Sky.com, a general domestic account. There is also the Outlook account, but I didn't set that up - I presume it's part of Mobile Office. The "stuck" email is in the Sky account. When I go to the email account screen, the Sky email icon has a green box with the figure "1" in it, but when I tap to open the message it won't open, and therefore won't delete.
I have both accounts set up to leave messages on the server so I get them on my desktop machine when I return home, so I'm going to try deleting the last few day's emails from the Sky server. I don't think it's that but I can't think of anything else at the moment.
I'll let you know what happens.

HTC Mail vs. Gmail App

Ok... so I've recently migrated to Android after several years of WinMo Standard - Windows CE - 5.0 - 6.0 - 6.1 - 6.5.
So far I like Android and I love this phone... never had anything has fast or with such a great screen.
With that being said I'm having several issues that I wanted to run by the people here and see what ya'll thought.
Quick setup background - I have two email accounts I like to use - Gmail and Yahoo. I have all of my conacts in gmail organized the way I like it. Also, I recently gave up on using MS Outlook to manage my contacts and calendar and now use Gmail and Google Calendar to manage those two exclusively.
So here goes my impression/questions/issues - hoping someone can shed some light on it.
In the past with WinMo I could set up POutlook to sync with gmail/g-calendar/google contacts by configuring m.google.com as my activesync/exchange server. Everything seemed to work great. Now however I cannot decide if I should set up the accounts on the INC to sync via exchange or google.
So first question - when using HTC Mail and setting up my gmail account as an exchange server account is it "true" push?
If it is why would anyone want to use the gmail app?
Next - when I set my calendar to sync via exchange it randomly takes my entries and duplicates them on places the duplicate on the day before the original one. Any idea why? When I remove the active sync calendar and have it sync with my google account everything is correct... this is strange to me since its pulling the same data from the same place, my google calendar.
I'm sure I'll add more confusing and rambling thoughts after I continue to mess with this thing.
Thanks!
from my understanding the gmail is instant push and the htc mail app refreshes every 5 minutes (minimum). if this makes a difference to you then it should make your decision easier. hope this helps

i had issues with gmail not pushing properly when set up as an exchange account via HTC mail. other than the push issue, i consider the HTC app superior in every way.
I just set the HTC mail to manual, turn off the notifications to HTC mail. I set gmail it notification on, then every time gmail pushes in the mail I check it with the HTC mail. After I check it the notification goes away.
This way you can still use HTC mail without it waisting battery power every 5 minutes pull checking.

might do this. thanks for the idea
If you set up your gmail account as an exchange account using m.google.com you can get push by changing your check frequency to "as arrive".
The issue I'm having is that the HTC Mail application wont open any attachments from my gmail account set up through exchange. I just get a message "The file cannot be opened because it is corrupted."
If I open with the gmail application it works fine
As a regular Gmail user, I find the Android Gmail app is superior to the HTC mail app. It gives me the same features I have when using a computer... like marking a star on a conversation, viewing different labels, and since I have multiple email addresses that my Gmail account polls, the Gmail app lets me see which of my email addresses was the recipient. It's right there in the label on the email list, without having to open each mail and look at the address information.
If you don't use Gmail, or have multiple email addresses that AREN'T automatically polled by your Gmail account, I'd agree that HTC Mail is nice. But for me it takes away too many of the nice Gmail features that I use. My $.02

This doesn't push. It pulls. If you look closely you will see a refresh icon flash in your notification bar every 5 seconds. Extreme battery usage.
As far as opening up your attachments, set it for Imap. Its the only way I got it to work for attachments.

Expect copy and paste from it, which I use a lot.
i like gmail app, because there is a delete button haha
htc one need to hit menu and hit delete.
Gmail...
I found using the Gmail app and the HTC Mail separately, I was killing my battery faster.
What I ended up doing, was having GMail PULL my pop mail, and then I'd just pull it all through the gmail app. Helped my battery life a great deal.
Pro's - Everything in one place, Easy batch delete
Con's - I have to TELL it to load the entire message (Show Picture). In HTC I didn't have to do that.
Other than that, I'm happy to have everything centralized.
