Hi
I don't know if any of you guys have problem like this or not, but screen on my topaz seems to got wet inside, when I place it against the light I can see that it is sort of wet inside the screen and the sencetivity of the screen has been dropped. Last night it seemed that the top layer of the screen sticked to the lower layer and I could see the sensor dots on the lower layer of the screen so it stopped the phone getting started.
I dont think I can use the gaurantee cause I modified the rum.
so wondered if you guys had the same problem, or I am open to any suggestions that what can be done.....
Thanks

Hi,
The touch screen part of my universal has ground to halt to the point that it won't work.
There doesn't appear to be any cracking and I don't recall dropping it or sitting on it.
I work a fair bit outside and can get quite a bit of dust and dirt in my pockets and am wondering if it could be due to dirt getting into the connect on the hinge.
Has any one else come across problems with the hinge?
I'm reasonably adept with a screwdriver - are there any things to watch out for when disassembling to check it over?
Hi..
If u can open with the Universal guide posted in the forum then try clean ing the connectors on the Right and Left of the Clamp Shell part with Iso Propyl Alcohol.
Before opeining you can try pressing mildly with yr fingers, at all the forur corners..it can start working..else do the above...
Hi,
OK, the screen seems to be working OK this morning, however I seem to be getting a sort of ghost effect where it appears as though the phone icon and the volume icons are getting pressed resulting in the volume controls and the phone/flight mode popup appearing on screen.
I guess it is all down to dirty connections.
Do you have a link to the thread about dismantling the hinge, I can't seem to find it.
Thanks.
re isopropal alchol
only use 99% alchol to clean contacts anything below that can cause corrosion on printed circut boards and contacts.
any progress yet.
mine stopped working today too.
but when i took off my screen protector, it worked for a while.. now its dead again.
I think the screen protectors may cause this problem, as I too had this problem with a screen protector; but when i took it off it would work and and off. I cleaned the screen up and after a few hours my screen was working again!
being in Australia I go to the beach allot. with my jasjar.
the sand gets stuck in the sides of the screen putting pressure on the screen and disabling any input. just a thought that it could be the same with u.
hope u sort it out, otherwise claim it on warrenty sooner than later.
The problem I have with the screen is that occasionally the touch screen side of things appears to stop working and also the the volume, wifi and phone dialogs keep on appearing as if I am pressing the relevant icons in the top bar.
I'm guessing some dirt has got into it somewhere or there is a loose connection, but am struggling to open up the screen's case to inspect it.

i took off my screen protector and it worked an hour...
got home, prepared to go to the T-mobile store.. then cleaned my screen ( without protector ) with a small cloth and it was working again.. so weird..
lets wait and see what happens ..
It's not really that weird: If some dust, or something equally small gets between the screen and the plastic frame, it can put enough pressure on the screen, and so the touch screen takes it as a constant (or intermitent) input, invalidating any other action on the rest of the screen.
I just received my Aquapac waterproof (and sand/dustproof) to use my Jasjar hapilly in the beach!
oh so annoying, my volume sliders keep popping up now..., as if some one keeps tapping, cause when not in Land scape mode when i open the "START" menu. it scrolls down, the same input/tap as wher the volume is in Landscape mode
There must be something wrong ... my screen still isnt working properly
one possible solution for touch screen not working
guys.... although I dont need to register onto this portal and it took me 15 minutes to register (fault of my own) but I got so much relieved with the solution that it deserved 15 minutes of my effort ;-) I hope it helps someone...just like it did help me....
I own a P835 Asus mobile and from past 2-3 days was having problems - start menu continuously appearing and my taps not getting recognized. Since yesterday my screen suddenly stopped responding to any taps or scrolls altogether.... buttons were working fine but not the screen..... i spoke to the facilities centre this morning and was about to take it to the shop but due to my laziness...didn;t go.....
Thanks guys.... what you mentioned above is very correct.... it was just a tiny molecule of dust that the screen was interpreting as my input and finally refusing all my taps..... I just cleaned the screen and the speaker side with the mere stylus n things started working.... thanks a lot.... more than laziness was this worry cause I just bought this piece a month before....
so people...before takin it to the shop....try this one too.....huhhh.....
Really need help here,
My hermes suddenly decided that visuals are no longer needed.
That means the screens stays off all the time (yes even in bootloader mode).
It works, receive calls and flashes roms but in no situation can I see anything on the screen (pitch black screen).
I've got no warranty so I took it apart and checked each cable and connector - no issues were seen. I tried changing SPL-s, RUU, Roms all worked but left my tytn with that black screen.
Did anyone see this happen or has any advice?
This sucks big time :-(
No one? Oh man, I guess it's dead then :-(
Last bump before giving up and throwing it away - please?
send it to me if your gonna throw it away : - 0
I've given up on mine as well. It has white screen though. Where do I dump this thing?
If it is out of warrenty, I would take it apart as is sounds like the hardware, check the connections to the LCD. Does the backlight still work, or if you put it in strong sunlight, can you see the LCD working?
My Hermes had a white screen also. I found that if I squeeze the bottom right hand corner whilst resetting it would sometimes work. It seems there is a chip on the switch board that needs the right ammount of pressure on it. I think it was a design flaw as the herm200 and 300 are different. If applying pressure works and you are confident enough take the hermes apart and put a couple of small pieces of plastic or paper between the front buttons and the small square chip on the switch board. This worked for me.
The service guide is available if you google. Let me know if you need more info.
As for the black screen that sounds more serious sorry not seen that one.
what are you guys willing to sell your pdas for? Mine fell in a puddle and i need one for parts. The white screen might be fixable the first couple of times but then it dies off for good, the black screen i've never heard of.
So if you want to sell for a reasonably cheap price let me know, i can buy a new keypad online for $50. So around there would be nice!

I just tested this on mine and actually got some results.
mines the opposite though, it will NOT work with any pressure. I left all the screws loose for that board under the buttons, and left the LCD assemble screws out on that end and it works, But if I press the keys it whites out again and won't come back until I repeat the dis-assemble/re-assemble
I had a similar problem but this was after someone dropped mine on the floor. The screen would just be white screen, while everything worked. If I pressed the bottom right of the phone it would sometimes come on and stay on for a little while but would eventually always go to white screen.
I did manage to use the phone but had use a program called Net Control which allowed me to control the phone over WIFI with the phone screen shown on the PC. Got the phone replaced in the end by the people who dropped it.
i got the flex cable and my phone still has the white screen problem....wtf///
After owning the Touch HD for a full month I just noticed that down the middle of the screen there is something which I can best describe as an oil stain. It looks as if there is a liquid in between the glass/plastic screen and the resistive layer that lays on top of it.
The screen works normally and this "stain" can only be observed if I look at how the light reflects of it.
Any idea what happened?
Hi,
I have a small idear. The TFT-Monitor ist touching your Touchscreen. Probeply you pressed something on your HD, that the two Monitor touch each other, that is why it looks like a Water or Oil spot.
This can happen for example, if you are carrying your HD in your trouser pocket.
If you want to try to remove this spot, you have to turn with your both hand the hd, like the right hand turn with the clock and the left hand turn to the other way.
Sorry, my english is not very good for such a discribing. What I mean is like "to contort" or "to skew (up)". But you have to be very carefully. Before you start, remove the Battery
(I'll be incorporating a clearer explanation along the lines of what Dude10 was trying to say)
The effect you're seeing is IDENTICAL to what causes the colours to appear on an oil film actually!
The way the Touch HD screen works is to have the hard glass (polycarbonate plastic actually as far as I'm aware, but that's not important here!) with a squashy resistive sensor layer on the top.
This resistive layer detects touch as an increase in resistance at the spot that's compressed - be that by a finger or a stylus. Because the upper layer can be compressed, it can also be malformed by stronger than normal pressure, such as an object in a pocket. The effect can be more pronounced if your body heat warms up the screen surface making the screen "set" in position rather than spring back as it should do...
The "oil" effect is cause by the reflections of light from the outermost plastic layer and the outermost surface of the hard screen. When the gap is small enough, these reflections can interfere with each other, cancelling and re-inforcing different wavelengths depending on the thickness - hence the tapering of the screen from thinnest to thickest results in a "rainbow"
Now, why explain all this you may ask? Partly because I like science and it fascinated me in school to learn what caused that effect so wanted to share this! (And this also explains why it only presents itself when you look at the light reflections)
Anyway, more importantly, the solution to your problem is to restore the thickness of that part of the touch layer to it's original uncompressed state.
I'd firstly start trying to hold your finger flat against the top of the phone screen (on flat surface, portraint orientation, finger "left to right") then pressing resonably hard (the hard screen should protect the device - if not you're pressing too hard!) slide your finger down the screen from top to bottom trying to keep an even pressure. This should hopefully even out the surface.
Failing this, as Dude10 suggests, take the battery out and use your thumbs (holding with fingers in the battery well) to press and "smear" around the problem area.
Unfortunately, other than this I don't think there's a particular way to remove the effect totally if it doesn't work...
Obviously it's speculation given that you didn't mention how it happened in the first place, but it does sound like it got knocked or pressed by something either in bag or pocket - maybe even a fold in the pouch
Hope you manage to smooth it out!

Just a long shot, but:
Sometimes a similar effect can be caused when some moisture has got between the layers of a display.
Have you used the phone anywhere damp or very humid ?
Keeping it somewhere warm and dry might be worth a try?

Thanks for all the tips. The issue happened when I had the Touch HD in the pouch and in my pocket - so the idea that it was a fold in the pouch holds water.
The funny thing however is that before I saw all of your replies I was already out the door (with the Touch HD back in the pouch and pocket). 5 minutes later when I pulled it out the issue was gone. I am guessing that I reapplied the exact amount of pressure needed or something like that.
Thanks again for the tips and especially to chaosdefinesorder for the nice explanation.
Thx for helping explanation

no, i don't think it was gone. check again under a fluorescent light....
i have this on my diamond. my HD is flawless (till now...)
i phoned to a technician and explain the phenomena and he invited me to replace the screen. when i got there, to my complete amazement and embarrassment the stain was gone. only later i discovered that the stain is visible under fluorescent light only.

thanks m8, already tried this (on my diamond) and tried now again with both yr methods. no results. the stain is still there...i think only a replacement can solve it.
here u have the paralel thread in diamond forum:

you can not do it yourself. the best way will be to go to your seller or straight to HTC, because I think you HD still have warranty.
I repaired ones an Diamond and I can tell you, it wasn´t an easy way.
Sometimes the touch screen is not responsive. I need to press screen at various places to get it work again.
Any idea why this is happening?
Due to ROM bug or Hardware issue?
It may sound funny but my TD2 is the same and after few checks I found a way to fix it..... You must look at your display in an angle and you can see that in the center is a spot which is darker than the other display, after this you must suck a little right above the spot and everything is back to normal....
use a duct tape to suck it
this might be caused by extra pressure was placed on the screen. I found out about this when I accidentally slept on my phone for a whole night
Hi everyone one
I'm not sure this is the right section for my topic, if not I'm sorry and pls direct me.
So I got this phone from my brother whith a weid screen he has no idea how he got this problem, it had a charging issue that he already repaired after that this problem appeared
The phone screen looks a bit weird no scratches or visible damag. but the screen is blurry the contrast is a so hight that the colors are a bit off and are not seamless, and there is this stains as if the screen is brocken (see atached pictures), so far if I hide the upper bar the rest of the screen will looks normal as if there's no problem with it
Any Idea on how to fix this problem is the screen damaged ?
Thanks in advance
No fixing that I doubt, unless the cable for the screen is loose, in which case I still would not try to fix it yourself unless you're very patient and have steady hands.
To fix, you need screen replacement.
According to samsung technician at service center, the purple strain damage are caused by having the phone being press on or under high pressure such as putting the phone inside tight jean pocket or being sit on etc.

Thanks for the help guys, I opened the phone and checked there is nothing pushing the screen or any visible damage
**update**
Good new the screen went back to wotk notmaly 3 4 days after wotking intensly with the phone using an app called twilight, it helps remove the stains when activated blut it's a blue light filter
Now the phone work well without that app
Thanks
