Bluetooth Modem + Universal Help

Hey everyone,
Okay I'm going to try and explain what I am trying to do here, but I'm sure I'll miss some steps. I think I know what the problem is, but I still can't figure out a way to resolve it.
I have a Sony Ericsson Z710I mobile phone. I also have an i-mate Jasjar running AKU 3.2 (JW's Rom). Here is what I am attempting to achieve.
I want to use the Z710I as my telephone. I have bluetooth turned on and have connected the Jasjar to it. On the Z710I I have enabled the "bluetooth internet" option and set it to connect to the proper APN. On the Jasjar I have created a new network connection that uses Bluetooth modem, and have put in the APN as *99#.
So when I connect the Jasjar to the internet, it dials the bluetooth on the Z710. It recongnises the *99# command and connects to the proper APN and connection. This is the point in where it just doesn't want to hitch up. The phone has full access to the internet, however ... the Jasjar is just grabbing data traffic and I'm not sure why. It reports connected and is communicating to my knowlege.
When I disconnect the Z710 from the internet, the Jasjar immediatley reports that the modem has disconnected. That why I figure there is communication.
I have tried (on the Jasjar) to edit the network card settings for the bluetooth adapter to 'obtain IP automatically' but it made no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas ( or questions for me to help clairify?)

What kind of communication did you try? Internet Epxlorer? Opera? Messaging?
For example, IE, which is based on the Connectivity Framework, has a lot of problems that may render a connection non-working - I've written several articles on this stuff. A solution is trying with,say, OpMob / Messaging to be absolutely sure it's not just an IE-related problem.

I tried using activesync as well as IE, google maps and other internet based connections.
I just tried it right now, dialed the connection and tried to activesync. The z710i connected at the Jasjar's request and the Jasjar said connected. It then just sat there "synchronizing folders"
There are two APNs available through my phone. One is for WAP traffic, the other for Internet bound traffic. My phone is connecting properly or it at least setup properly to route traffic over bluetooth to the internet one.
I did hook up the phone through a bluetooth adapter on my computer and used it as a wireless modem it did work there. I wonder if the problem is the Microsoft BT Stack (it doesn't have a PAN profile).
Do we have a way to uninstall the MS BT Stack and install the WIdcomm one which would support PAN?
Just a thought.

Are you sure the z710i would support PAN server? I don't think so.
If it does, then, check out the Hermes / Wizard Widocmm BT stack hacking-related threads; hope the stack can also be hacked onto the Universal too.
(Unfortunately, AKU3 with its new BT approach (see my related articles if interested) won't work because it only supports BT PAN server mode for dial-up purposes, not client mode.)

I'm not sure how to check if it supports Bluetooth PAN server. I know that the Z710I can be used as a Bluetooth Modem (as I said previous, I hooked it up to my computer and used it as a internet connection - but when I did that I had to enable PAN client support on the PC [i think]) .. So is this where we are inherantly are having the problem? The Jasjar doesn't support PAN Client therefore, when it connects it doesn't know what to do with the connection?

I have figured it out.
I connected my Z710I to my laptop and I examined the "dial-up" connection and the syntax for the connection number was *99***2#
I changed the connection on my Jasjar, connected and everything is wicked. Now I can still sync my Jasjar while using a regular phone for a while.
Talk about a Personal Area Network .

RESOLVED: Bluetooth PAN Internet Sharing question

I'm not sure if I'm the only daft bat that does this. But in the past i would use my Hermes under wm6 as a Bluetooth Pan Internet sharing connection with my BA as it had the ability to either Host or establish a Bluetooht PAN link.
Since i've upgraded the BA to Wm6 I've noticed that as with my hermes the betowrk options are severly depreciated. and now when i search for Bluetooth services on the hermes it only shows Dial up networking but doesn't give you the option of Bluetooth PAN as a service it can find or give. also Can not set the init string to send to Bluetooth modem if choosen. thusly cannot tell it the access point etc.etc.
Is there any advise possible to help me link the BA with my hermes using Bluetooth PAN for the internet sharing through the hermes ( yea i know but HSDPA is far faster then the BA's basic 3g hehehe)
RESOLVED: the problem is in the Bluetooth stack of this rom. in short the Wm6 rom appearantly can't find a PAN connection at all as I tried to find the one on my PC at home and it definatly didnt' show anything accept a serial port. However my hermes could see the personal network conenction and once reflashed to the t-mobile latest rom it can now establish a PAN network conenction with pc or hermes300.
guess the bluetooth profiles in the rom for the BA in wm6 are a bit lacking at moment

My Vista has automatically recognized my Hermes. No need to define a modem or connection string. Just run the Internet Sharing on Hermes and then it is seen in Networks and Sharing Cetner. I just open my IE and it works.

cool, only problem here is that my Hermes 300 ( t-mobile vario II) using Schaps 3.54c Wm6 Rom has the bluetooth Pan driver for internet sharing, as well as the modem link yea? And the Blue angel now being Windows mobile 6 doesn't show like Wm2003 did. in Wm2003 you could create a Bluetooth Netowrk connection for PAN to the hermes. Or a bluetooth serial connection to the hermes Modem link. Now it only shows Dial up networking in both since they are both wm6. And also doesn't give you the option of an init string entry in the advance network options for the AT+CGD init string that also lists the part "ip", "general.t-mobile.uk" which is the access point when doing Bluetooth DUN.
How would i establish a PAN connection to the hermes Internet sharing with the BA under Wm6 from helmi is the real question?

Ok I can assume then nobody else has 2 windows mobile 6 devices and tries to have one work via the other or nobody other then me has tried this.
Hermes300 windows mobile 6
Blue angel Helmi Windows mobile 6
cannot make a Pan connection in either direction Hermes to Blue angel, or Blue angel to hermes.
this means potentially people with Pda's ( ie: Compaq or HP Ipaq's runnign Wm6 ) or other mobile with wm6 will not be able to use the Helmi rom for internet sharing and really are better off leaving WM2003se on as has more compatability in that regard.
If however others have tried this and found a way to get it working please post =)

I have two WM5 devices and am having exactly the same problem! I always through DUN was simple enough, but I am not going to get in to a debate about it versus Internet Sharing BUT why the hell did MS remove the "client" functionality? It is all very well and good if your Internet Sharing device (i.e. WM5 or 6 phone) is going to be the "server" but what if it is the client (as many PDAs will be).
I see no way of doing it! Anyone?

you can still use the Modem link if you can get it to create a serial port bluetooth link , ie: pair the devices and select Serial Port. then under the connections then you would tell it to use Bluetooth Modem
and put in the advanced dialing string for bluetooth DUN.
there are a few threads about bluetooth DUN on this forum.
the only thing i can thnk of that would make this not work however is if the roms your using are cooked roms and the profiles in the bluetooth stack are missing on 1 or both for the features suggested.
this is what stopped me from having this work as the wm6 on the Hermes and on the Helmi rom are missing the profile for HOSTING a PAN directly without internet sharing and dont' offer bluetooth serial port as an option

BT PAN to Smartphone?

The Universal only supports slow GPRS in North America, however, I also have an HTC Cavalier which supports fast 3G.
I would like the Universal to retrieve data from the Cavalier at 3G speeds.
I have achieved this using the BT DUN hack for the Cavalier and then letting the Uni dialup a connection with *99#. However, this has a couple of drawbacks:
1) Cannot make/receive a call simultaneously
2) The BT DUN hack requires the phone to be restarted to re-establish a regular 3G connection on the Cavalier (i.e. for Push Email)
The idea situation is to have the Uni connect to the Cavalier through BT PAN (instead of DUN) so that "Internet Sharing" may be used. Is this possible? Maybe another method?

Impossible. As has been pointed out in my latest BT PAN hack guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335543 ), the MS BT stack can only act as a server, not a client. That is, unless you completely ditch the MS BT stack and install the Widcomm stack instead (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1115973 , linked from my related article at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1649&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ), you can't do what you want.
All in all: either the Widcomm BT stack or nothing.

I tried the Widicomm stack but it behaves the same way, only DUN is available on the Uni. Any ideas to get it to be a PAN client?

PROBLEM: 2 smartphones sharing a Bluetooth PAN connection

I've 2 smartphones (Breeze & Tornado). I want connect the breeze phone to the Tornado smartphone to share the GPRS internetconnection (2 phones with one internetconnection).
On the Tornado phone I enable Internetsharing -> Bluetooth PAN and my GPRS network connection and i CONNECT.
On the Breeze phone i want to make the connection to the tornado phone with the bluetooth manager. With this bluetooth manager i can see the phone and i can also connect, but the Tornado PHONE won't share the GPRS connection (internet sharing says always DEVICE SETUP FINISHED. On the PC connect bluetooth PAN).
When i try to make a connection from my laptop to the Tornado phone this works but not with 2 phones.
Is there anybody who have the correct solution?

Internet sharing and Bluetooth

I have 2 questions:
1) How to use (to share) the internet connection (3G) established by my blackstone on my Laptop, using bluetooth? On the blackstone, the screen for internet sharing only appears when I connect the mobile to the laptop with an USB cable. At that time it's possible to chose the type of connection USB or bluetooth. My question: is there a way to get this screen (internet sharing) on the mobile without pluggin the USB cable in order to use directly the bluetooth connection?
2) In the same way I would like to use (to share) the 3G internet connection setup by my blackstone on my HTC Kaiser (WM6.0) also using bluetooth.
Is it possible? Someone could explain the procedure?
The reason to do that, is to use Skype. If I try to use Skype on my blackstone, it's refused by the Telecom Operator. When I use Skype on my laptop sharing an 3G internet connection, it's allowed... I suppose it would be allowed too if I run Skype on my Kaiser sharing the 3G connection of my blackstone...
I know that is possible to do it with WiFi. Bluetooth would be better...

In the programs listing you should have a program called "internet sharing" which allows you to select USB or Bluetooth. I haven't used the bluetooth setting but it has a settings option so should be able to do what you want.

Yeah i just select Bluetooth rather than USB connection and press connect.
Pair your laptop to your phone first then press connect, then on your laptop, click the taskbar icon and click quick connect > Network Access and then select your phone.

Thank you all for your helpful answers. I succeeded to connect my blackstone to my laptop using bluetooth and sharing the 3G internet connection.
However, I didn't succeed to share the 3 G internet connection setup by my blackstone on my HTC Kaiser (see my point 2 in my previous post). I succeeded to establish a Bluetooth connection between them, but I never succeeded to share the connection. (The Kaiser runs on WM6.0).
Any idea?
