I have a few questions... - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Are there any vodafone/google branded magics that carry 288 Mbs of ram or is it only the Rogers version that has 288? I've heard the Roger's is 32A. I want to use Cyanogen's rom but I think that's only been ported to the 32B magic. Basically I've found an unlocked international phone on ebay that claims it has 288 ram and a vodafone logo, which I'm pretty sure would mean 32B. 32B/White/288 would be the only flavor of this phone I'd really want... if not the vodafone is there anyone that has that combo? Maybe I could do 32A/White/288 but I can't even find a roger's that is white...

well if its a vodafone im 99% it has only 192Mb Ram
Most listings on Ebay post the Vodafone as having 288Mb Ram because they just copy and paste the specs from the Htc magic. but they either dont know it only hs 192mb ram and or they try to fool people...
and umm the HTC Unbranded Magic has 288Mb Ram as well as the HTC Rogers Magic!
so if anything i say you buy yourself an HTC Rogers magic as the unbranded one is hard to find.. plus they are both the same thing..
oo and there is a 31a cyanogens rom around here.. let me find you the link..

here you go. Link to Thread containing all 32A Roms available
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534464
and link to Cyanogen 32A Rom:
http://thephishing.net/RogersRoms/CyanogenMod[v3.6.8]-Rogers-signed.zip

Ah, that helps. Guess now I just need to case mod it white... wonder if the g1 and magic trackballs are the same, found a few colored ones for the g1 that might look good with the magic.

no. they are not the same. the Magic one is bigger and it also lights up which is really cool!
but as time goes by, there will be ones made for the Magic.

Figures... since posting the original question it seems all but the most over priced rogers magics have disappeared from ebay...
I found a few of these red band magics and looked them up, apparently they were sold in taiwan back in may. Does anyone know what board/ram version these are? There's a few out there for sale.

Check this thread out. I bought one of the HTC Magic with red strip that goes around the unit. And has 288 mb of ram.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536030

Well I'm def. leaning towards the red banded one then. I did find a guy selling white ones with 32A, but he said it was the original which makes me think it's those really really old ones that have those fulgy slim buttons. Funny how there's all these versions but none of them have everything I want all in one..

the red one is the unbranded HTC Magic!

SNAP Network Differences? Any?

Hey guys... Are there any significant differences between the different GSM versions of the SNAP? I know USA uses 1900MHz 3G but UK uses 2100MHz. Do all the versions have the capability to use ANY band?
I don't want to be stuck with a 2100MHz phone in USA. Are S521 and S522 virtually the same?
Anyone know?
A far as I know, I've never seen a phone that can support both. You need to wait for the US version to use the US 3g.

Yea, i ended up getting my Dash 3G this past weekend. I got it 2 days after the ROM date on it. Haha! Now to start cooking...
Two questions about the new Dash:
1. Is the battery removable? I have the extended battery on my Dash but it looks like the back is one piece on the Snap, so I doubt you can use it, but I'd still like to get a larger battery for a Snap.
2. Can you use the T-Zones hack?
Thanks,
Marc

the back on the snap/dash3g is one whole piece, but the standard battery for it is 1500mAh and it surely is removable ... I know that with my original dash, the extended 1500mAh battery is huge and required a new cover.
I'm still slightly on the fence about the 3G mainly because I'm still adjusting to the offset keyboard vs. the straight line of the original, and the scroll ball is still throwing me off on internet use.
I hope that there is an option to resume Internet Explorer sessions if I exit out, because currently when I exit out of IE, and pull it up again, it starts a full new session which kind of sucks if I'm browsing and need to send a txt or make a note of something.
other than that, I really enjoy the phone thus far, though I've only had mine a few hours.
see i'm actually looking FORWARD to it and I really like the fact that t-mobile is the only carrier who's phone are offset like an actual keyboard(I currently own a g1 which has the offset keyboard). Everyone else's phones are straight line keyboards. That's not a deal breaker but coming from a G1(persona phone) to a Fuze(work phone) I can't really get used to it. I still get thrown off.
so i have the Ozone..which is verizon's version of it and to be honest the off set everyone describes isnt that bad. yea ill admit it, ive missed the space bar a couple times, but like everything else it just takes some getting used too. But heres a pic of what they all look liked lined up against one another :

I think they're different devices. The Dash3G and HTC branded SNAP are HTC MAPLE and The Sprint and Verizon versions are HTC WILLOW- CDMA only. Means hardware and ROMS will probably be different as well...

HTC Aria

Is this the same phone? The specs look the same.
The Aria looks more like an HTC Legend without the UBA Case.
The Wildfire is QVGA while the Legend and Aria are HVGA.
HTC Aria looks more like the HD Mini completed with the big screws.
I'll be getting one of these
I think the Aria is just the AT&T version of the Wildfire; if you compare the MDA Compact V with the Diamond2, both devices will look completely different, but they are mean't to be the same.

No again, look at the specs. Wildfire QVGA display vs Aria HVGA display.
HTC Aria = HTC Legend minus Unibody Aluminum Case
ARIA rooting
So, who will be the first to root this phone??
i not getting this one. i will wait until they release device that have a similar spec as nexus
I was going to wait and unless the phone is a huge disappointment in person, I will buy it. I am sure it will be upgradeable to 2.2. What bugs me is that it is only 600 mhz for the processor. A lot of stuff on the other ANDROID, like the INCREDIBLE, I really do not need. It is a good beginner ANDROID phone. I just am looking forward to learning how to root the darn thing and it seems that every model is different in terms of the process.
Aria = Liberty
There is shipped ROM for ATT Liberty aka Aria aka Intruder.
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Lib...37.35.09_7.08.35.06_release_128691_signed.exe
Code:
Under the battery cover, it clearly says HTC Intruder. When you sign into the Android Market, it says "Setting up your HTC Liberty."
So, Aria == Intruder == Liberty

interesting. I'd be happy with just root and no custom rom or recovery.
It is sounding more and more like a re-skinned Legend.

No, sorry it does not - it is not rooted yet.
It may not take long though, depending on how similar firmware is to the Legend, which has been rooted. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy the Aria. I understand every Android phone can be rooted eventually, I just hope this one won't take long.
So this is for at&t? Doesn't sound good to me. I don't know for sure but I was wondering if at&t android phones allow you to install 3rd party apps?

You can do it with ADB on the backflip. Once rooted, you can install anything.
Looks like a nice little phone. I don't go for big bricks in my pocket, and the Nexus One is pushing it. I like the size - it's the same size (3.2") screen as the magic/mytouch/sprint hero/legend/gsm hero, and it has almost identical specs as the Legend.
No, it's not a superphone, but I really like it. It looks like it would do the job just fine.
Apparently no 3rd party app sideloading and no live wallpapers for some reason. I was under the impression that all Android 2.1 builds supported live wallpapers. Is it because of Sense UI, or is it just something AT&T decided to do away with?
My question is will the HTC Aria get its own section here, and not just be a thread under the HTC Wildfire. It will officially be out and for sale at AT&T in 3 days, which is sooner than some new phones that have their own sections. I'm thinking of getting this phone as an upgrade from my Fuze, but I would definitely want development support for it. AT&T's stock android sucks with their lockdown crap, so it would be nice to be able to root it and actually be able to fully utilize android.
Going from Fuze to Aria
I'm really liking this phone as well. I currently have a fuze but have been wanting an Android phone for a while. I just am not big on the huge phones that are coming out now.
I have faith in the XDA crew and have no doubt that in no time we'll be installing 3rd party apps.
I would not worry about the speed though. Search google for htc aria benchmark and androidcentral has a very surprising test...

Warning For New HD2 Owners Who Are Flashing

This is probably redundant but might save someone from bricking. Theres a radio in the HD2 thread with a .51 in the name DO NOT FLASH THIS TO A TMO LEO! I did and now i have a brick. Theres also a ROM floating around with this radio in it. Be careful people.
Also if anyone has a HD2 with a cracked screen or other damage but still turns on for under $200 pm with a clear ESN im interested.
Sorry for your loss, and kudos for the warning, but there are LOADS of radios with a 51 in them, and ALL non tmous stock roms include a 51 radio. Plus there must be a hundred threads by now where people have bricked their phone by flashing a 51 radio, and many more warning against flashing ..51.. radios, , surprising you didnt come across one when you were researching flashing.
T mobile will replace it under warranty if you play dumb about how it happened. (as dozens of people will confirm)
GSM Phones Do not have ESN. Only CDMA and CDMA Hybrid Phones (CDMA & GSM)
here's an example of what not to flash. don't flash .51. radio or anything below 2.08

If your phone does not boot up, even to the bootloader, just turn it back in to T-Mobile for a warranty exchange. If you didn't get the phone through T-Mobile, try getting in touch with HTC.
Also, I would like to mention that I too am sorry for this happening to you. It happened quite frequently in the very early days, which is why the mods created a specific T-Mobile HD2 forum for us. These days I don't think the Leo chefs are even bothering to put the large red warnings at the top of their posts anymore, which is a shame even if it is understandable.

it still happens daily! I broke the sad news to someone just a few minutes ago. (Mostly people trying to change the language by flashign regular leo official roms nowadays, it seems.)
Plus ive seen a few sites that dont correctly list the full rom name (sunnysoft, hang your heads in shame, you owe ((name omitted)) a new tmous!)
ROM Leo HTC WWE EastEurope 1 66 zip
instead of
RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_1.66.479.2_Radio_CRC_Si gned_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship

I blame T-Mobile. Calling it the "HD2" even though it is not compatible with the Euro version was very confusing.
Of course, I've argued this point for months and as usual T-Mobile doesn't seem to read my arguments

Any new features? performance boost/ UI upgrade?
Crap...
WiFi Hot Spot and USB tethering is new. The Hot Spot seems to be running in infrastructure mode, as my Archos IT70 can connect to it (never got it working with Barnacle etc on Blade 2.1 or Hero CM6.1).
ZTE releases different roms for different carriers. I bought mine from Comviq, and the 2.1 version was pretty untouched. Now though, there's a new boot animation showing of the Comviq logo, as well as several Comviq apps preloaded. It's also the only one sold locked as far as i know. I'm using a sim card from Tele2 (which owns Comviq) and that has worked flawless. Now though, I can't change APN. The preloaded Comviq APNs seems to be write protected. Adding the Tele2 APN and making it default doesn't work, it just reverts back to Comviq. In short, the update made the phone more branded than before...
Another unpleasent surprise is that ZTE seems to have changed the filesystem on the device, and it now appears as a ZeroCD device when connected to a Windows computer. The ZeroCD device has USB drivers on it. A side effect of this is that the phone doesn't show up in my Linux system (Ubuntu 10.10).
This is definitely a dealbreaker for me. I'll be looking at de-branded roms as soon as possible. I might go for CyanogenMod 7 once it's final...
Edit: Oh, as for UI updates there seems to be none. The notification bar is still white and fugly. IMHO there's a performance boost though. I actually prefered my HTC Hero over Blade with 2.1, but now it seems better. The new Google Maps with vector graphics was a nice addition too.

Fake HD2?

Hi
One month after I broke my europian HD2 I got nother from a private seller. It has the same 4.3" great screen, but instead of microUSB, it has miniUSB, it hasn't 3.5 plug and seams to be slower and glitchy.
Is it possible to be a fake with 4.3 screen?
Also the info shows:
CPU Qualcom 8520B
RAM 256
FLASH 256
STORAGE 149.97(not the storage card)
Data bus 32 bit
The most surprising is that whenever I start it there aren't any digits below the HTC logo, showing the version.
Yes it is a clone. They have some pretty close HD2 clones you know, just check out the below for example:

Yeah it looks like you got a clone there.
I also thought that, but there isn't dual SIM, and the device looks pretty old.
Can it be some old version? The long battery is stunning?
I had 3 Chinese phones before but this one seems to be genius.

If you had one before it's easy to see that is a clone...
Actually a'll keep it. It's pretty good. The reason that i found it, is that i had one before. The difference is mostly in the memory.

If it does not have a 3.5 headphone jack and if it has the mini USB connector lick the one in ZEMONTI's pictures. Notice how the USB port sticks out like a sore thumb on his Phone. The real HD2 does .other have this.
See the system (or memory) info! If it has only 250mb, or less it's fake.

gotta admit though, those fake phones are pretty darn slick. not talking about software but hardware-wise those imitations are pretty good.

The fakes do look slick and agree they just get bigger and better. What concerns me tho is the lack of 3G or hsdp network. Both the above links appear to quote 'GSM/Edge', im thinking if running android and are outwith a wifi hotspot then speed would be deminished

Tbh, these look quite good actually. Still prefer my HTC HD2 though.
Just looked at the HD2 running Android link... The phone has a higher MP camera than the real one.
