Hey guys... Are there any significant differences between the different GSM versions of the SNAP? I know USA uses 1900MHz 3G but UK uses 2100MHz. Do all the versions have the capability to use ANY band?
I don't want to be stuck with a 2100MHz phone in USA. Are S521 and S522 virtually the same?
Anyone know?
A far as I know, I've never seen a phone that can support both. You need to wait for the US version to use the US 3g.

Yea, i ended up getting my Dash 3G this past weekend. I got it 2 days after the ROM date on it. Haha! Now to start cooking...
Two questions about the new Dash:
1. Is the battery removable? I have the extended battery on my Dash but it looks like the back is one piece on the Snap, so I doubt you can use it, but I'd still like to get a larger battery for a Snap.
2. Can you use the T-Zones hack?
Thanks,
Marc

the back on the snap/dash3g is one whole piece, but the standard battery for it is 1500mAh and it surely is removable ... I know that with my original dash, the extended 1500mAh battery is huge and required a new cover.
I'm still slightly on the fence about the 3G mainly because I'm still adjusting to the offset keyboard vs. the straight line of the original, and the scroll ball is still throwing me off on internet use.
I hope that there is an option to resume Internet Explorer sessions if I exit out, because currently when I exit out of IE, and pull it up again, it starts a full new session which kind of sucks if I'm browsing and need to send a txt or make a note of something.
other than that, I really enjoy the phone thus far, though I've only had mine a few hours.
see i'm actually looking FORWARD to it and I really like the fact that t-mobile is the only carrier who's phone are offset like an actual keyboard(I currently own a g1 which has the offset keyboard). Everyone else's phones are straight line keyboards. That's not a deal breaker but coming from a G1(persona phone) to a Fuze(work phone) I can't really get used to it. I still get thrown off.
so i have the Ozone..which is verizon's version of it and to be honest the off set everyone describes isnt that bad. yea ill admit it, ive missed the space bar a couple times, but like everything else it just takes some getting used too. But heres a pic of what they all look liked lined up against one another :

I think they're different devices. The Dash3G and HTC branded SNAP are HTC MAPLE and The Sprint and Verizon versions are HTC WILLOW- CDMA only. Means hardware and ROMS will probably be different as well...

Wondering how many are going to pay out for the Kaiser and why.
I gots to have my device fix every year, ...I like the thinner Kaiser......but thats really about it..... Getting GPS above and beyond that is NOT going to open my wallet to the tune of $600.
If the Cingular network miraculously has the souped up hsdpa network good to go next year......maybe. If not I'm looking at the Toshiba device....or maybe the Samsung f700 if I can get my hands on it here.
Thanks!

I'm prob going to buy one. I already have someone willing to buy my hermes for the price of the Kaiser as long as I take care of it for them. Bosses wife. I want the GPS, the double in the storage, the thinner size, HSUPA, it is going to have 3.6 HSDPA and I really want the tip up screen. There is also the fact the the keyboard slids out the right side. I like that so that the dial is usable when the kb is pulled out.
Well that is my take on it. I wish the memory was going to 128 but that is prob not going to happen. I will be buying one.
Erik
yeah, but really, the hsdpa boost is good to go in other lands I hear....questionable in the US...wasn't aware of the storage boost.......(that we already have here on XDA!).
I want to stay with the Hermes lineage, which 'been good to me'....but startin to look around.
I think the XDA chefs've devalued the next models for sure!

Agree with everything you said, one question though: does the dial location change in the Kaiser? Because if you slide the keyboard to the left, as in the Hermes, the dial is well accessible. I figure if the dial location stays the same it ain't accessible if you slide the keyboard to the right ... am I missing something?
well, in the hermes it's accessible with your left thumb. as far as i understand, in the keiser it will be accessible with the right hand pointing finger...so it's more usable
I'll get one, but only if it supports the 3G frequencies T-mobile US is going to be on.

OK that makes sense, especially when sliding the screen upwards to provide enough space around the jog wheel for the left pointing finger ...

I am looking to upgrade my phone but i am divided between ATT TP 2 and Pure. i have seen alot of reviews of TP2 but i havent seen any reviews of pure can someone guide me to the right place where i can read some reviews on Pure
I am looking for the feedback on the battery life as well since i dont really need a phone that i will be worrying about charging every few hours
Here are the first two videos I've come across
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/windows-mobile-65-att-htc-pure-unboxing-video
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/htc-pure-windows-phone-hardware-tour-for-att
No 3.5mm jack, 3.2 screen the TP2 and Imagio have 3.6" screens, no rounded corners form factor, and no MediaFlow turner with kickstand antenna like the Imagio The phone comes with no headphones and a very big dongle adapter for headphones. This is a deal breaker for me. The Verizon Imagio keeps looking better and better... functionally and aesthetically.
I'm really liking the LEO, but at this point I'll probably get a PURE depending on the cost of the data plan, so let's get some reviews in here!
I will have mine on Wednesday and will post first impressions.
I upgraded from unlocked Touch Diamond for the microSD card slot, bigger memory, bigger screen. And alas - maybe I wont have to do the silly dance to keep screen turned on at the start of a call.
I may need some help getting rid of ATT bloatware.
DC, Orlando
I am only concerend about the on screen keyboard I hope I will be able to type on it like a iPhone

i just got my ATT pure will post some impressions
So the pure is the same with topaz eh? Pure is the USA version or what?

The Pure is the USA At&t version of the Topaz. Body is a little different but internally identical.
Thanks guys for posting all the reviews... I went down and picked up one of these for my daughter today. This is a really nice phone, HTC has done a great job with this one. I also really like the body that ATT is using, I think it looks much better in person than it does in pictures. The other thing that impresses me is the speed, Manilla 3d runs smooth and fast.
I may have to go get one for myself..
We've just posted our review of the Pure here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/HTC-Pure.htm . I've got to spend a few more days to a week with it before I write the final conclusion and talk about battery life. Nice device for the price though.
I just picked one up last night.
I was forced into getting the $30 Data plan after having the unlimited $19 plan for about 4 years. I'm coming from a FUZE to this
the build quality is very nice
the phone is slippery wish it had some contour or rubber on the back
screen is much nicer then FUZE but I'm still wanting bigger.
no 3.5mm jack no big deal
very light and thin
sounds louder with its side speakerphone (NJ laws while driving)
I miss the D-pad for one handed scrolling
Camera seems to take nice pics but
Bummer No Flash - I use to use the Flashlight app with the fuze
Haven't tried tethering to my Laptop yet which I use about once a week.I'm sure it works its in there
never really used the keyboard much on the FUZE so not much of an issue
I was going to hold out for the TP2 but at $150 more just not a good time with $ being scarce. I really just want a bigger screen maybe next year or another device.
trying to HARDSPL it but having problems and errors so I know it will be much better with a Energy rom on it when i get it
[*]one there.
Fuze for sale
A quick question. Do you all have the HTC app for using your phones as WiFI hotspots? It's called 'WiFi Router". Or did AT&T pull that off of the device? The coocked 6.5 ROMs have it in them and it's cool. I was playing halo while using my phone as the router on Edge. But since you ATT folk have US 3G on your Pure's then it'll be even better.
Take that Sprint MiFi.We get free MiFi with every WM phone Purchase.
One more Q. Can someone post up the Software information on the pohone?
OS Version:
Manila Version:
ROM Version:
ROM date:
Radio Version:
I read online that this phone has TouchFlo 3D 2.1 not 2.6, would it be possible to update?
You should easily be able to use the TF3D 2.5 from the HTC Leo
via a cab install or a new rom?

You have to update the new Rom just check out the rom development and you will get all the details there
I just updated to the Energy ROM Leo and love it
so much better in all ways then the stock rom that comes with the phone
and yes this has the WIFI router app and many other great apps.

But Samsung didn't think this is enough so they threw a gyrscope inside just like the one in iPhone 4
In addition, the Samsung Captivate is designed with a six-axis sensor that combines the smartphone's accelerometer and gyroscope to provide a smooth, fluid gaming experience

I much prefer the i9000
Meh who needs a gyroscope anyways?
Hah would be funny to find that people outside the USA prefer that design and the Americans preferring the international version.
Theme appears less iphoney
Looks like an old Palm device I threw away 5 years ago.
I may end up with it, but based on that picture, I don't think its attractive at all.
If the I90000 looks iPhonish, who cares? It looks better than this.
That won't stop me from buying it. Depending on the issues around locking down apps to just the Market, and what Verizon ends up with from the Galaxy...that will determine which one I end up with.
Unless someone can convince me there is a good reason to stay on AT&T over Verizon, based on the carrier technology, not the complaints about AT&T's lousy coverage. Their coverage is great where I would need it. (At least now it is).

I think I prefer the EU version as well - it might be because I've just gotten used to the looks of it already. To me the US version reminds me of the Touch HD which is a phone I absolutely hated.
It depends on the dimensions and whether it has a flash - neither of which are stated.
Like I said in the other thread, there's no way AT&T would allow another phone closely resemble the iPhone AND have specs to directly compete with it and possibly blow it out of the water. Hence the removal of the front camera, possible gimping, and changing the looks.
It reminds me of this ..
I prefer the 3 button setup with hardware home key in the middle. First, it can be used to unlock, no need to fiddle with your thumb on the side. Second, it helps using the other two keys without looking.
Who really needs a search key anyway? And if you need it, just hold the menu key a little longer, and there you are.
we should have had a poll. like the att version alot. curious if the tmobile one is gonna be redesigned, especially since the sprint one also has four buttons up front.
Not to mention the hardware keyboard
No-one else thinks that it looks exactly like the Looks Xperia X10?...
fork! Annoying that I can't post images/urls. I wanna put the first image next to this one img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2009/11/XperiaX10_450x550.jpg
Looks a lot nicer than the standard version to me (and I'm not in the US!). The standard one looks like it's trying too hard to ape the iPhone, and not the new one either.
The AT&T site shows the back, which does not have a flash:
http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung-captivate.jsp
I'd definitely prefer this one - 16GB Flash (Vodafone exclusive in the UK) and a gyroscope, with better styling. It might not have a front camera, but it doesn't have a chocolate teapot attachment either and I care about the same amount for both of those features. (Well, to be fair, I could eat the chocolate - that would serve more of a purpose.) I've had phones with front-facing cameras for three years and have never made or received a video call over 3G, or had any desire to do so.
this doesn't look hot. i like the 9000 better
looks like a mini dell mini5 streak
pun intended
Biggest question for me, since both of them have slight variance in hardware like no front-camera and gyroscope, will a single rom cooked for 1 version work for both versions?
Because thats huge. It would fragment the Euro and USA rom cookers.
US Version looks way better and it has all 4 capacitive buttons, which would make running custom software a little easier. Booo @ removing the front facing camera.

I have the nook color and it is the size of the large Moleskin notebook -- in fact I used to use my softsided Moleskin as a "case" for it until I got a real one.
It is not very large, but I could not imagine using it as a phone unless using a bluetooth headset. Most carriers are blocking calling features--including Google Voice--on these devices. I think the T-mobile GSM version of the Galaxy Tab was the only one that got hacked into placing and receiving calls. You could do Google Voice over WiFi, but that is if the new Sprint Integration has not mucked it up, and YMMV on that. http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/sprint-google-voice-integration-has-major-issues-major-lack-o/
BGR has a new post that has photos of what they believe to be the AT&T version of Galaxy S II with a slide out keyboard. It also includes a couple of benchmarks; Linkpack and Quadrant. I can't believe that AT&T would do this... looks like I'm not getting the AT&T version...
http://www.bgr.com/2011/07/26/exclusive-images-of-atts-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-revealed/
oh my GOD thats ugly!! good thing i live in the UK, no carriers changing my device
Looks really ugly, it will just add to phone's thickness.. and even the camera looks weird in those photos!
Electricpig notes that the Linpack benchmark is about 18.6% higher than an unlocked Galaxy S II (58.544 MFLOPS vs 47.606 MFLOPS)... leading them to suspect that they bumped the CPU from 1.2 to 1.4. However, Quadrant doesn't seem to show much improvement (3056) but then again, Quadrant isn't the most consistent benchmark.

Corporate users love keyboards. They are also a prime target for LTE. Going this route kind of makes sense if this is their first LTE phone launched. I'm glad I got the unbasterdized version. Remember, the Z/R got FCC approval on AT&T's bands too. Maybe they'll carry that one also as their more consumer oriented version.
i'm not convinced this is att's official (or only) sgs2. the layout is completely different: camera placement, bottom physical button for instance.

Or this...
Look like this...
SGH-i897 is the model number for AT&T's SGS1 so the model number for whatever phone's in the first post uses the same naming convention. Last round, Sprint got the keyboard. This time it looks like it'll go to AT&T.
damn, you're right. our only hope is this is not AT&T's version.
My biggest concern is that AT&T will screw with it so much that we'll need special developers for it. I think I would lose my mind if I went to flash a super duper kernel and it blew up in my hands.
Thank goodness I got the unmolested version of this device. Leave it to US carriers to take something amazing then ruin it.

Even if they left the majority of the phone as-is, you'll never be able to flash international ROMs due to the different radio(s). I'm sure devs working on it will be able to re-use a lot of what's already been developed but the phone will be too different to share s/w with other versions.
I just got really dissapointed really quickly. Im fine with having four buttons but the slide out keyboard is almost the point of being useless

The captivate for ATT can use international sgs 1 roms with a kernal that rotates the screen correctly the only difference is that the FM radio didn't work on the captivate as there was no FM radio.
ATT world phones use the same international frequencies as international phones. i currently have an internationall sgs2 and am using it with att with 4g.
keyboard not for me.... Good that I got the international sgs2
Also the Samsung galaxy R kinda looks nice and solid, even though lower specs and slightly thicker.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Its like they didn't want to release a phone thinner than the iPhone and maybe this even dissolves them of being liable and possibly being sued for selling it as-is. I'm not trying to be a fandroid or anything but I can't help think the ongoing legal battles between samsung and Apple somehow effected the outcome ... disenchanted ... but still optimistic ... would be nice to get new dimensions and weight of this bastardizes phone.
