I am coming from a T-Mobile HTC HD2, and I have Unlocked the phone, installed several ROM's and Android Build's, but I am getting bored, so I got a Vibrant now, Do I need to Unlock the Vibrant and Root the phone in order to install a Custom ROM? If so, if you could provide me the link to a program to Root the phone, and Unlock the phone, would be much appreciated, and I can go from there, thank you. Please do not flame this, obviously I know what I am talking about.
Read the bible and all questions will be answered. Basically do not be lazy and do a search its all here the info you need.
Cheers.
that sounds sexual

Anybody notice there are two of these threads?
You do realize you posted the same thread 15 minutes before this one. By the way you are getting flamed in that other thread for not reading sticky threads. They are sticky for a reason. The one in general and the bible have pretty much everything you might want.

doesn't matter
It doesn't matter whether you are a noob or know what u talkin....
Anytime you create a new thread in the Dev section(twice!!) with such a basic question....you are asking for it....search man search!!
Mods please move....
You should be searching, but ignore the a**holes, just in the future make sure you check out all stickies and abuse the search function ( and NEVER double post, because then even I wont feel bad for you)...otherwise you are welcoming the douchebags to come out from under their rocks and prey on fresh meat
to answer your questions, you do not have to "unlock" the phone. Just root the phone in order to obtain Superuser and Busybox. Install "OCLF" from the market, this is the easiest and fastest way to root your device. And from there just read up on ROMs/Mods for yourself to see what you want. Most ROM threads have specific installation instructions, good luck.
This phone is so easy to mod, its silly. However, sometimes it can be TOO easy, in the sense where if someone gets caught up in the simplicity and starts rushing, you may miss a small detail that could cause major setbacks. Its happened to the best of us, it doesnt mean you dont know what youre doing, it justs means your enot reading carefully. So no matter how simple something may seem/sound, always make you read carefully so as to prevent issues that will cause you to post/panic like crazy.

I got temp root working using the peneuter (Original version cpu instructions was wrong so use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905183 )
I managed to downgrade by re flashing the misc partition and dropping the PC49img on. So back to tmo stock rom 2.1. Unrevoked now attempts to root and see the success message then the nand error happens as hboot is the same. Still poking about so will update if i progress...

You have already offended some. Please note that not all who asks to root Froyo updated their phone from OTA or RUU, some got their phone with the Froyo firmware already in it. So please watch before you speak. Also, not all people knows about how this things works. Most doesn't even care what their phones are and will update should an update is available believing their device will make it super. Then they'll just stumble on a forum unintentionally and started knowing stuffs like these and start loving and craving to try, but may be too late. People asking these questions should only be answered Yes or No, no side comments if it's bad to hear. Anyways, they are not pushing you, as in you to do it for them. If you say NO, then they won't bother you, will they?

The problem appears when you say"no" to someone, they get it, but during the next week you see the board filled with topics from various people asking about rooting 2.2, because they can't be bothered in reading a measly 2 page topic where the problem is explained.
I agree that the people that bought the phone with 2.2 are not to blame about no knowing about it, but they are to be blamed about not reading before whining on the forum
So remember kids, google stuff before crying on the forums, this way you won't be insulted by bad people like me, that are only stating the obvious .

There shold be no one to blame in the first place because nobody committed a mistake for asking to root their phone after update. It's not a mistake, it's just that people tend to play with their phone, get more features after root, but it's not a mistake. Mistake here is to insult poor ignorant people.

No, the fact that you do something (like updating 2.2.1) without knowing the implications is a mistake, and you deserve what`s coming to you.
If you go around in life like "hurr durr a buttonz, lets push it" you are eventually gonna get burned. It doesn't take long to go around asking on Google or reading on a forum, or asking a friend what happens when you press that button. Maybe you will not find out exactly what happens when you push the button, maybe you`ll only know that starts a flame, you are responsible for getting burned. And you shouldn`t cry afterward if the injuries hurt. This example can be extended in every aspect of life and can be summarized like this THINK before you act! Some obviously don`t.
I`m not going to argue anymore, this is my final post about this subject.

hey guys, im new to this website thanks to a good friend of mine (he doesnt have an xda account but he has knowledge of it). I'm basically interested in XDA because i wanted more to do with my phone (EVO4G) and i have heard the best source of help would be XDA. i've had the phone since its release date and havent done much with it since i've gotten it. Now im convinced to "root" it and see how fun it is. i'm having trouble doing anything i've seen on youtube and i dont want to do anything stupid to damage it, but i'd love to know everything on rooting and the likes of it...anyone willing to help a brother out? LOL
1. welcome newbie..
2. yes you are in the right place...
3. what the hell took you so long?
4. did you see the sticky : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881747
5. yes, there are a lot of members that will help you...but remember .. it is best to do a quick search first.
6. what is your question?
7.. because its lucky!
You want to start on the unrevoke website, than download the software and hboot drivers, you need them to root your phone, without them it will not work.

Yeah man I'll help you out... Rooted my evo before I even made a phone call... You're going to be amazed at how much better your phone is rooted/customized...
The best advice I can give you is to READ... try the stuff out, if you have issues or questions, like dan330 said, search first cuz more than likely whatever you run into has already been figured out. I've been here a long time so I know what will get you help from the people that know what they are doing.
Check out this thread when you get done with the other... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701245
come back and tell us what you'd like to get started with and I'll walk you thru it if need be.
First of all make a backup of your rsa keys and wiimax.img that is your 4g keys ..just in case you loose them in the process of flashing stuff.....
I have ran completely stock and then tried to root
using UnRevoked3 method and it says it "failed to

I was trying to post that to another thread but I
have less post to contribute in the Developers Thread
Good to know - I was just about to ask this question.

Well I'm glad you didn't post in the development section because this isn't development is common sense! Unrevoked hasn't been updated to work for 2.3 yet.
I'm just sitting back laughing and watching all the newbies that have stormed XDA here today because you guys ONLY come on here to download things or to complain about what you downloaded got messed up or something like that......if you spend the time to read and familiarize yourself with what's going on then you'll save yourself time when things like this happen.
yea I already knew this.....I am a teacher so I explain myself like its
my first time, I try to get on other peoples level so they would better
understand this....
Today is like idiot day at XDA, comparable to Black Friday at Walmart......
I was rooted with unrevoked but had to unrooot for a repair. Got my phone back but repair center updated to the ota available. Tried unrevoked again but I get the same message and now I'm stuck unrooted.

Wouldn't just completely blame HTC for the locked bootloader. HTC is open ro the bootloader being unlocked. Sprint is probably more the reason it's locked.
HTC Evo
Rooted, but still stock...for now

The program is designed to work, if it's not, we have a problem.
I expected this to happen today. People should research a bit. I was playing blackops and logged on xda and got overwhelmed with all of these new threads. New wimax/radios, phone not rooted, htc bootloader locked, 2.3 impressions.

ok, how about scrolling through the ALREADY MADE POSTS about the root progress of the shift? call me crazy but im pretty damn sure that everyone, like ourselves stuck on 2.3.3, are anxious to get perm root so some of us like myself can get back to developing. WHEN and IF perm root is found you can bet your ass it will be known. making 40 threads asking about it does nothing but piss the devs off that are trying to get this headache of a redheaded stepchild phone root. relax and have a nice cold beer, its sunday after all, god wants you to drink.
Search is your friend... no need to clutter the threads

Just to say, the support offered here isn't "official HTC" support. That being said, it'd be a shame if you threw away your phone just because you couldn't root it.
I have mine rooted, my girlfriend does not. I show off neat things to her, and she cries at night, petting her cell and begging it to root itself. I told her I could root it, and she updated to the 2.3.3, just to spite me.
That being said....no, we don't need ANOTHER thread on this. If you need to comment about status on perm root, you can always post in the threads that already exist.
If, by chance, you decide to chuck the phone, by all means, let me know -- I'd be happy to take it on for my very own as well. At least then it'll know that it's loved, no matter what.
Or until a Motorola Droid is supported by Sprint.
agreed, the more useless threads the harder it is to find threads on the actuall progress. just do your research ie. look hrough other posts and you will see. i understand your frustration as i am as well as many others i am sure.
You must be tired of no root yet. But I'm tired of everybody always asking.
