So you tried to install with Linda file manager as well as Appsmanager and it failed? Why not just root and install would be easy? You can always go back if you do a nandroid backup.

Yes, I tried both apps and followed the steps carefully.
The reason I have not rooted yet is because I know from past experience that once you flash the rom you are constantly looking for a better rom, lol! I do want to flash to the hero rom, though
LOL. Tell me about it And yes, I also have a Rogers branded non-rooted phone. I think I'm done playing with the original android, but I'm scared to root just for the same addiction reasons . Ah well. Here's to dedicating hours of wasted time...
P.S. Does rooting open up the paid apps market? And how does the market work? Is it a pre-registered card/google checkout? Or is it a cost thats supposed to get added to your bill? In which case it wouldn't work on Rogers anyways.
Once rooted you install market enabler and you have access to everything in the market. Paid apps are through cc not in your mothly bill.

HTC IME Keyboard on the HTC Magic (Rogers)
So, did anyone find out how to install the HTC IME keyboard on the Rogers branded HTC Magic (without rooting the phone!)?

Hi,
Is the nexus one rooted? or just unlocked?
Thanks,
Rames.P.
Hopefully its already rooted, but probably just unlocked.
Its already been rooted, and a custom rom is already out.
It was hacked by Paul from Modaco.
Yes, ordered one!.. cannot wait!..
Andfreek!..
Any Sense UI roms availiable yet?
Come on man... still we have not started breathing with Nexus...
With all the new file and theme that are released for att and bell that are not compatible i think that a bell section should be create like on galaxy tab for gsm and cdma...

At least a subforum.
I'm kinda frustrating bumping topics just to generate interest from fellow Bell users.
A lot of the stuff posted isn't compatible and could possibly save someone from bricking their phones...

I think there just isn't enough demand. I technically have both devices now and I'd just says to ask the devs for help anytime a new tool or script is released.
We have enough technical guys with Bell Atrix's that most projects port over quite well now. And if there's something for the AT&T Atrix that isn't available for the Bell, I'll be sure to work with the devs and offer my expertise. After I fix this AT&T Atrix it'll be sold and the Bell one will be my primary device.

Bell does not have the download speed cap which despite me living in Canada is why I got the Bell version instead of the at&t.
The main mods that I have seen are:
Root via gladroot
Freeze bell bloat (there is a link in the at&t freezing thread to a site that has the bell "safe list")
Deodex the bell file system
Install theme (I think there is only one so far)
We now have an sbf that we can Probably flash to in case of soft bricks but I'm waiting for a bit more confirmation and feedback.
That's my Bell how to

there is now download speed cap. there is a problem with upload speed that effects us all. Looks like an AT&T fix is potentially around the corner (that or their 2nd update in general)

Wait I missed that, we have a reliable sbf now? This is kinda huge if it's true.
I thought we had to wait till the first OTA before one would surface?...

You can't really say "if" as it's right there under the dev thread...

It. IS NOT a Bell SBF, it is an Australian release that seems to work on bell phones. This is all very new so I'm just patiently keeping up with the development threads. The general consensus is to wait until the new sbf is rooted so you can baƧk up the current bell version via Titanium and CWM then flash it, root, and then be able to restore the bell version if needed. We can't do this until the Aussie sbf is rooted. But it does seem, at least, to give us an option.
Hope that helps.

We already have a gingerbread theme, check the development threads. You need to deodex first, but there is no reliable way to return to the bell sbf ...yet, so you might want to wait to play it safe ... or not

A Telstra SBF has been released to give all of us Bell Canada Atrix owners a lifeline... Its not perfect, but its a way to unbrick your device if you do happen to kill it..

Root with gladroot or gingerbreak.
Install Titanium Backup and backup.
Install CWM and full backup.
Deodex bell file system.
Install Gingerbread or Honeycomb theme.
Flash telstra Radio only.
Install webtop via HDMI mod.
Freeze safelist of system apps.....
And one sweet phone after
Option 2: flash telstra sbf:
Root bell with gladroot or gingerbreak.
Install TiBa and backup.
Install CWM and backup.
Flash telstra sbf.
Regain root with seven's script (gingerbreak).
Deodex telstra filesystem.
Install gingerbread theme (or others as they become available.
Install webtop via HDMI.
Freeze or delete safelist of system apps.
I hope this helps someone, I haven't figured out how to put links from my phone su you will have to search. Read all instructions carefully!

You did not mention that the nandroid backup of Stock is not safe at all as you don't really know that flashing 1.4.2 modem and keeping the stock rom itself is OTA safe. A lot of people really think a Nandroid backup is a full backup but its not.. As per NFHimself: Nandroid is like backing up your "Program Files" but not all of your windows installation. Therefore once you mod, thats it.
Another thing you failed to mention is that with 1.4.2 you get GingerBlur or GreyBlur to work on your phone. and that.... is one sweet phone.
Also, 1.4.2 offers significant performance increase, I have personally noticed much better battery life and with GingerBlur/Greyblur you get SD card performance increase even further..
1.4.2 can also be applied to a big list of international models, so people from Korea, Brazil, Argentina..etc can have access to the US ATT work.
Since staying on stock and modding things is literally just as unsafe as flashing 1.4.2.. I sir, advocate people flashing and enjoying 1.4.2 to the fullest.
Sev, check the date, it was from before you found the compatibilities with with other themes

And it looks like we may not need a separate section after all, or perhaps an "everything but at&t" section?

Not trying to troll, but why is it that the Motorola Droid 2 forum has a "Regular section" and a "Droid 2 Global section"?
IMO having a "Bell section" would be just as helpful...
Isn't there anything that can be done about this?...

Hello all:
I am using a unlockedexperia play on the bell hspa network in Canada. I have rooted the phone using the uk firmwear and the ginger break method. I was wondering if is possible to root the rogers firmwear?
Thanks
When i had rogers firmware 2.3.2 i was able to root it with gingerbreak
do you know where i can get rogers 2.3.2 firmware for the flash tool?
The only Rogers ftf I've seen was for 2.3.3
Sent from my R800
If i understand things correctly i need the 2.3.2 for root then update to 2.3.3. Would you know if I can root 2.3.3. Do i need to unlock my bootloader to install new roms?
Why would you want the rogers firmware btw.... All the apps that rogers added is on the market to download. Rogers branded R800a starts up really slowly.
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.
Google search wantanserver, download it and install r800a world generic 2.3.2 its rogers without the rogers crap. You can root it. Warning though there is no ota path on that firmware to 2.3.3 for that you have to use the pc companion and you will lose root.
If you want 2.3.3 with root the flash the 2.3.2 uk generic one, root then ota
it doesn't matter where the firwae is from? I thought rogers would work better in canada instead of the UK brand

I'm going to agree with this here. The Rogers bloat was terrible, you won't notice a negative difference at all, and you'll likely be happy to have The Sims 3 instead of Madden.
No doesnt matter
thankyou all very much rooting as we speak......trying lol
