I'm kinda frustrating bumping topics just to generate interest from fellow Bell users.
A lot of the stuff posted isn't compatible and could possibly save someone from bricking their phones...

I think there just isn't enough demand. I technically have both devices now and I'd just says to ask the devs for help anytime a new tool or script is released.
We have enough technical guys with Bell Atrix's that most projects port over quite well now. And if there's something for the AT&T Atrix that isn't available for the Bell, I'll be sure to work with the devs and offer my expertise. After I fix this AT&T Atrix it'll be sold and the Bell one will be my primary device.

Bell does not have the download speed cap which despite me living in Canada is why I got the Bell version instead of the at&t.
The main mods that I have seen are:
Root via gladroot
Freeze bell bloat (there is a link in the at&t freezing thread to a site that has the bell "safe list")
Deodex the bell file system
Install theme (I think there is only one so far)
We now have an sbf that we can Probably flash to in case of soft bricks but I'm waiting for a bit more confirmation and feedback.
That's my Bell how to

there is now download speed cap. there is a problem with upload speed that effects us all. Looks like an AT&T fix is potentially around the corner (that or their 2nd update in general)

Wait I missed that, we have a reliable sbf now? This is kinda huge if it's true.
I thought we had to wait till the first OTA before one would surface?...

It. IS NOT a Bell SBF, it is an Australian release that seems to work on bell phones. This is all very new so I'm just patiently keeping up with the development threads. The general consensus is to wait until the new sbf is rooted so you can baƧk up the current bell version via Titanium and CWM then flash it, root, and then be able to restore the bell version if needed. We can't do this until the Aussie sbf is rooted. But it does seem, at least, to give us an option.
Hope that helps.

We already have a gingerbread theme, check the development threads. You need to deodex first, but there is no reliable way to return to the bell sbf ...yet, so you might want to wait to play it safe ... or not

You did not mention that the nandroid backup of Stock is not safe at all as you don't really know that flashing 1.4.2 modem and keeping the stock rom itself is OTA safe. A lot of people really think a Nandroid backup is a full backup but its not.. As per NFHimself: Nandroid is like backing up your "Program Files" but not all of your windows installation. Therefore once you mod, thats it.
Another thing you failed to mention is that with 1.4.2 you get GingerBlur or GreyBlur to work on your phone. and that.... is one sweet phone.
Also, 1.4.2 offers significant performance increase, I have personally noticed much better battery life and with GingerBlur/Greyblur you get SD card performance increase even further..
1.4.2 can also be applied to a big list of international models, so people from Korea, Brazil, Argentina..etc can have access to the US ATT work.
Since staying on stock and modding things is literally just as unsafe as flashing 1.4.2.. I sir, advocate people flashing and enjoying 1.4.2 to the fullest.

Sev, check the date, it was from before you found the compatibilities with with other themes

Not trying to troll, but why is it that the Motorola Droid 2 forum has a "Regular section" and a "Droid 2 Global section"?

New to android, have a couple of quick ROM related questions.

I'm new to the Android experience and I'm loving it so far. But I wanted to ask about ROM's. I understand they're a modified version of the android OS (no?). What I wanted to is that if you needed an external storage to install a ROM on your phone. If so whats the minimum size? Also does adeo work with 4.1.57? or are we still waiting for a developer to release an update?
Thanks for any sort of help you can can give me =)
you do not need any extra space, it replaces the existing software/build.
However, the likelyhood that you will see any true ROMs for this phone are close to zero. The real thing to realize is that you really don't need them. Unless you like modding your phone for fun, or overclocking, or whatever it isn't needed. You can mod a lot of stuff with just root, and honestly most of the stuff people want, can be done without whole new ROMs.
as far as adeo, no idea, check the thread on it. Never touched it myself.
I'm trying to get GingerBlur on my phone, apparantly I am required to have adeo for that.

GingerBlur 1.1 works on 1.5.7. However, you need the bootstrap recovery apk from the Android Dev section. The Gingerblur installer auto-deodexes your phone. However, you need an SD card to put GingerBlur on
This phone doesn't need all of the ROMs people want. It's a super fast phone, even without overclocking. My other two phones, the Captivate and Inspire, needs to be modded to function well. Says a lot about the quality of the devices
The true ROMs (Cyanogen, Cognition, Serendipity, whatever else there is) might never, ever be usable on this phone. This device has a signed bootloader, and we can't install custom kernels while it is signed. One of the only ways we might get around this is if Motorola pulls their heads out of their asses.

I would recommend at least 4 GB. Anything less will probably get filled up quite quickly. I bought mine from buy.com for an extremely cheap price. Hell, you can get a 16GB for ~$20 on Newegg.
This is the link to the CWM recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019143
You need to have sideloading enabled. That isn't hard, just follow this second link to root and update to 1.5.7 correctly.
You need to be rooted, and at 1.5.7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
This is a guide to getting root on the newest update. This is the direction you must use:
1.2.6 SBF Flash -> Root 1.2.6 (using retainroot from the second link) -> update your phone OTA with 1.5.7 -> run the afterupdate.bat from retainroot -> install CWM recovery -> put GingerBlur.zip on SD card -> boot into CWM recovery and install zip from SD card.
It seems complicated, but you'll get used to it.
This si the micro sd card I purchased: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=16gb_micro_sd_card-_-20-211-379-_-Product
It's a Class 6 - 16GB, for only $28. It's almost criminal not to buy it! Mine works great so far

Rooted on 4.1.57 not seeing Update?

My Atrix 4g is rooted on 4.1.57 and I am not seeing the latest 1.8.3 update. help!
Me either. I'm pretty sure its not because of root though since others with root have gotten the update
Thats what I was wondering. I was able to update with the root last time, I don't see why this would be different
So we need to unroot and then update ?
And then root 1.8.3 with Gingerbreak?
Nothing should effect your ability to see it. If you have one of the pseudo roms installed, that will prevent you from installing it, however.
I don't think we need to un-root to see the update - that really shouldn't effect anything. Once we get to 1.8.3 GingerBreak will root it fine, the issue is just getting to that point via OTA Update which we aren't seeing
no root here and I'm still not seeing it yet.

Just flash the sbf it doesn't wipe any data of course im not running any mods or "roms" other than root. It did get rid of root though and running gingerRoot wiped my internal storage (like it said it would), but i backed that up no harm ;-)
So my area in NC is not "live" yet it seems.

The patch isn't live yet folks! It's still being pushed out in testing.
I believe it's not root, but deodexed files which cause issues with updating. People with root have managed to update, but people like me who had GreyBlur had to flash back to 4.1.26, update to 4.1.57, update to 4.1.83, then root and sideload again. Also, before rooting, it's adviseable to use Kennethpenn's deodex flash for 4.1.83 first.
rooted, running gingerblur 2.5.. no update available yet here in south Florida. not too concerned about it though.. i did the HUSPA mod & i'm content for now

Yeah this happened to me too. I was rooted on 1.57 and updated. Ran afterupdate and got root back. Than I installed GreyBlur and im back to 1.57 now.. :-/

Its because greyblur isn't compatible with 83 yet. A lot of psuedo roms make changes to /system, and that include their own build.prop file. That makes it look to the phone that its on 57 and not on 83. Wait until greyblur gets updated or dive into the zip yourself and make your own changes.

I'm really having a hard time here with this. This is my first custom rom I've installed. If I should wait for 83 compatibility. How do I uninstall the rom? If I accept the OTA update will it uninstall the rom for me?
Should I settle with GingerBlur instead? I really hate sounding like a newb here, but I've been digging deep into the forums and not really finding a clear answer about this issue.

Did you make a backup in Tenfar's recovery before you installed the rom? If so, its a simple process of restoreing the backup. If not, I personally would flash using the sbf available to whatever version. That basically will just reinstall your system, but keep your data (I.e. music not apps). I don't know what will happen if you update on greyblur... maybe try it? You could fall back on using the sbfs if needed. Gingerblur is great, although there are mixed repotlrts on bad batterylife with it. I'm personally on stock with LauncherPro until the next gladiatrix comes out.
Its good that you are asking questions before doing things.
Oh, P.S. you could use titanium backup to backup your apps.
Sent from my screaming Atrix *4G* using the XDA App
Actually I think this more to do with the fact that GreyBlurr came out when 1.57 was the current firmware version. It has that listed in the build.prop file. So the phone thinks it is 1.57 even though it is really 1.83. If you have root explorer you can safely edit that file to show the correct version (its the top line).
If you don't want to do that and you have Titanium Backup, you can freeze the Updater app.
Thanks for the advice Tyler.
I ended up flashing back to 1.26 and just rerooting again with GladRoot.
I now have GingerBlur installed and am very pleased with the results. =)
I've only had this phone for a weeks and it's my first droid, so I'm definitely learning a lot.

Unrootable...
But that doesn't mean you can't root.
SBF to froyo.
Flash the 2-part gingerbread .zips.
Flash a custom rom (Liberty?)
Or stay on the froyo kernel...
and try MIUI or Cyanogen.
Be careful and read as much as you possibly can before starting. Myself and at least one other on here with the latest iteration of the X have ended up with boot looping or totally non-responsive devices.
I have started a thread with my findings. I am by no means an expert but I do have much experience with rooting devices going all the way back to the PPC6700.
Good luck.
getting stuck in a bootloop is part of the exploration process IMHO.
At least once per new ROM I'll flash something 'just to see what happens' and end up SBF'ing back. Just make backups between steps if you aren't sure about what will happen next.
it would be nice if one of the devs or people who work on rooting or someone in the know would at least comment if we are going to get a real root with the OTA
i mean im running froyo with CM7 but i sure would like the new firmwares for all the radios flashed and then be running CM7
so if someone could give us some kind of update at least saying no one is even remotely working on trying to gain root on 4.5.596 Official OTA or that yea we are working on it but it is a ***** and taken longer then we expected
that lil bit of info goes a long ways
thanks
I am not aware of any dev working on this ATM.
I don't think rooting 596 ota is critical 2nd unit has opened up alot of new doors and the attention has shifted. However I have flashed all of drew gardens latest and ran cm4dx until nightly 47. Now I'm daily MIUI and loving it, despite locked bootloader the cdma_shadow still has alot of options.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
to my understanding .596 has better battery life and signals are better for wifi and cellular (at least more stable and less drops)
i do not know if this is true but i have read/heard alot of ppl saying the battery life is better on .596
after all there is a .596 for some reason and its not a lil bump from 2.2.340 its pretty big
anyhow someone really needs to figure this out as the baseband has changed....i mean there is the pre-rooted rom .596 that works great so we know it can be done.
whats the big deal...let us have it

the big deal is that there isn't a readily found exploit for the ota, the pre-rooted was done with a diff. method (brute force? recompiled?) but the versions are the same regardless
no ones holding back a secret root method, there just isn't a dev interested in spending huge amounts of time to recreate what already exists
i think it would be interesting to create a batch script that sbf's a phone and installs the pre-rooted .596 but all hidden behind a random animation so the user doesn't see what's happening. if i call it a 'one click' root method lots of people who don't seem to want to take the readily available pre-rooted gb for whatever reason would likely be happy. yeah i understand that if it includes a sbf then data may get lost, but if i said in the instructions of my 'app' that it would happen and they should have backups, people would still likely use it
sorry, but i just don't understand why so many people who want root are seemingly against using the pre-rooted option, as most of them don't have the knowledge to find an exploit or a root method from scratch themselves, so they are still using the work of someone else...
<Disclaimer>I'm going out on a limb here with limited knowledge of the X. <End disclaimer>
From what I read and I don't remember where, the rooting of an X involves a 2nd init method by which it takes control of the initial init. I believe I read the original init isn't able to be exploited and this is the basis of some of the more complicated methods of rooting the X.
If someone knows more about this please correct me or chime in.
I had an Incredible prior. The rooting was more comprehensive and simple. I believe that is because the bootstrap and recovery were not as difficult to get into. That being said, personally, I may be going back to another HTC device if the folks light years smarter than me aren't interested in developing a root method like the other devices out there.

Updating my samsung fascinate (sch I 500) to the latest gingerbread

Hi everyone!
I'm very new to all this but still I don't want to get stuck with an old OS. I currently have a samsung sch-i500 (same as verizon fascinate) which I bought from reliance in india. It's currently running the stock OS ie android 2.1 eclair. Now I want to update my phone to android 2.3. The mobile operater won't give any ota updates. Hence I will have to rely on updating via pc. Can someone help me out with the same.
Thanks in advance.

Is it a CDMA phone? You're still on Reliance in India, correct?
I would recommend you look at the beginner's guide/FAQ and do just a little bit of research. While that thread itself is no longer maintained, the original post links to two other threads. There is a thread written by Droidstyle, easily found, that will tell you everything you need to do to get to the latest version of Gingerbread or even all the way to ICS.
My only concern is that you may lose your 3g if you don't flash the correct ROM.
Hi jawman27,
Yes it's a cdma phone on the reliance india mobile network. I'll surely search for the threads that you have mentioned in your post. In the meanwhile, could you clarify what you meant by losing 3G connectivity. I'm getting 3.1 mbps speed through evdo. Will i not be able to use the evdo once I upgrade?

When flashing MTD Roms on a fascinate from a different carrier you could end up losing your 3g data but flashing back to touchwiz should bring it back. Avoid doing those update your prl stuff by dialing a code on your dialer. Your not on Verizon so it would make it worse it, you will lose your data permanently and you need to take back to your carrier to get back your data.

Its in GENERAL section, read thru it carefully and you will find what you need.

Lol, you could upgrade. Just saying don't do those update prl dial code. I think you would also need massaints 3g data zip if you lose 3g just by flashing an MTD rom to get data back.
Edit: I'll post link to massaints thread or put up the zip if you need it. I know the thread is here somewhere, its just got buried deep after ics came out . It was only needed during CM7 days

I found this thread where a lot of people on Reliance were fine using EH03 and the Superclean ROM.
http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/3...gets-first-official-gingerbread-leak-in-eh03/
Read the guide and go for it. EH03 was the latest version of Gingerbread sent out to Verizon customers. Superclean3 is a great custom ROM, definitely worth considering. Perhaps just do it on a day off, though. That way you have all day to fix it if something goes wrong. Good luck.
Thanks jawman27,
But theres one thing I noticed from that thread is that everyone is using a unlocked verizon fascinate and not the one provided by reliance. And I'm yet to find someone who's still on Eclair DL14
One more query, how do I take complete backup. (my phone is not rooted) and where would I find the MIN No

I see. Well, it shouldn't hurt anything to follow section 6 of droidstyle's guide and do a basic rooting of the phone. Once you have CWM installed, you will be able to make a nandroid backup of your phone that will save to your sd card.
Once you have your backup you could then go on to install eh03.
I can't imagine these simple steps would mess up your phone or wireless data, but these are all really just suppositions. You can't possibly be the first one on Reliance to experience this problem/desire. Can you find any forums back home with people who have accomplished this? If not, and you are truly the trailblazer, we should certainly document what happens.
I'm not sure about the MIN number. Any ideas, folks?
Hi!
I have downloaded all the files required for basic rooting of my phone as mentioned in droidstyle's guide section 6.But on reading it carefully i noticed that the rooting process & files are for rooting froyo (I am still on eclair version)? Will this effect the procedure in any way? Or just by doing this rooting will i be upgraded to froyo?
Also, after the rooting procedure is done, will i have to do any settings for connecting to my service provider for voice & data? or does it remain untouched?
Sorry for being so noobish but pls understand that this is the very first attempt at modding my phone..
I'm glad you're reading so closely. I've never actually done this exact process myself, so perhaps others will comment, but I believe that you won't even need to install the Superuser zip to accomplish what you want to do in this first step, which is to do a backup of your phone.
With Odin, you can install CWM Recovery, which should allow you do a nandroid backup to your phone's sd card. Once you have that backup and the added confidence it brings, you should then be able to use Odin to flash the EH03 stock ROM.
I'm thinking you may not even require the basics of what droidstyle's guide offers (root access, custom ROMs etc.) It sounds like you'd be happy on an unrooted gingerbread that works. I really wish you'd been able to find other Reliance users doing the same thing. That's my only hangup on this. Having said that, these are the basic steps I'm recommending:
Use Odin to flash the CWM recovery file you downloaded.
Boot the phone into recovery mode, just as droidstyle explains (three fingers).
Navigate to the option to make a backup, and let it finish.
Use options in CWM to wipe data, cache, and dalvik (this will wipe all apps/contacts/text messages from your phone, but it won't affect your sd card).
Power down the phone (you may have to reboot before you can do this).
Go back into download mode and use Odin to flash the stock EH03 ROM.
Reinstall whichever apps you want.
There are others in these forums far more knowledgeable, so perhaps they'll comment or confirm if we're lucky.
I've done a complete return to stock several times, even using the atlas repartioning file, and I've never lost my phone activation or mobile data. I don't have any reason to think you'll need to do anything else to keep your phone working.
Yup, flashing Touchwiz won't make you lose your 3g data. Just gingerbread MTDs. Even ice cream MTDs won't make you lose your 3g data on a none Verizon network. I don't really know why it's just gingerbread MTDs that does that, I just go with the flow.

Hi guys!
yesterday I finally made up my mind and decided to take the plunge. I backed up all my apps, contacts and messages. And just when I was through with all these, I just connected my phone to my laptop and connected using kies mini. To my surprise, I saw an update to my phone. Build EK10. I checked from the xda forum and rimweb and found it to be an official upgrade by reliance and samsung. So I followed the instructions and finally I'm on froyo now. It has unlocked quite a few options on my handset now.
Feeling better as for now but yes I'll definitely want myself on gb or ics soon..
Thank you all for the wonderful support that you guys extended to me.

Using CWM for flashing EH03 radio
Hi!
I was earlier on EH18 rom & now I am currently on geewiz 2.8 kernal & system (which was flashed using CWM red recovery) with EH18 radio. I have tried to Odin stock EH03 rom (md5 is correct) on my phone but could not go beyond modem.bin. I tried the same with FC27 rom too. Every time i try to odin i am getting stuck at modem.bin.
Has my handset been locked by my service provider from whom i have bought the handset ie Reliance (india)?
If yes, how do i unlock it safely without disturbing any other settings so that i do not lose my connectivity with them?
If no, what else could be wrong?
Can i flash EH03 baseband (radio) via CWM??
I need to do this as I'm not able to upgrade my handset to AKOP ICS roms which need my phone to be atleast on EH03 before starting.
Thanks in advance
