I Think its a great Applikation, so look here:

look at the Video
What u Think?
what do i think..
useless, exactly as 7/8 of htc stuff, imo.
We can make better things with homescreen plus plus and mortscript, imo.
Strange use of colours. Too little data for a 4.1 inch WVGA screen. Most importantly, it lacks class, due to it's colours.
What I think?
Good idea -launcher wise. Lacks userfriendlyness when it cant display a calendar and clock simultaniously. But I dont think that colors equals less class as posted above.
I don't like it and my WAD setup is way beound that..
Go WAD! ;-)
The colors makes it the wierdest setup I have ever seen (who ever thought that looks slick?). The design is simple. It can and most likely, will be emulated by the superior wisbar advance desktop.
I did like the dialer. Hopefully a little more effort can be used in this GUI. Until then its WAD for me.
oi. this looks horrible.
not my type of display colors
They are tying to be all touchy feely a-la-Iphone. Not bad specs though. UI is alright, nothing special though when you have that much horsepower running the hardware.
UI is ok and at least customizable compared to TF3D.
But I fear they could miss improving things like start menu, system status menu...etc like HTC did. Those things are extremly useful and Toshiba should provide something similar or release an update to 6.5 short after it is available (in fact: summer for OEMs).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9F4QJK1wFs
looks "basic" slow and pretty sh**ty after all this wait....
'working prototype'. That's a little troubling for me. It's going to be released in ~8 months. It should be close to a 'release candidate' instead of 'prototype'..
i wouldn't worry yourself.... its not even going to be worth installing !
Are we still able to use the standard WM theme ?
I don't want all them icons !
OMG. why when i see the main screen - i feel like throwing up? so much unused space, azure color, the wasted space on the right - feels like the screen is not properly aligned... If you are out of good ideas for the design - why not make a Win7 theme with the aero. make buttons have more aero feel, not this bs...
P.S. IMHO, for it to succeed they will have to redo the design and make it highly customized.
P.P.S. Did you know big dev companies are already dropping win 6.5? example - Skype, Adobe...... I hope WinMo7 burns in hell
I wouldn't complain about speed at this point; look more at the functionality and what it does rather than the speed of the transitions, time it takes to respond to touch etc. Those are all tweaks that can be done closer to RTM.
I'm still expecting them to include some kind of background on the start screen, since that full black background is just odd.
As much as some people here are complaining, MS has really placed a lot of emphasis on UI study the last few years and designing crazy yet efficient UIs around them. See Office 2007, 7bar, etc.
I think if they let you skin that start screen background, it'll be much more tolerable.
The rest of the UI is pretty sharp IMO.
Of course, if MS doesn't allow it, the clever folks @ xda will make it so anyways.
I thought they are not making a version for the HTC HD2? They officially will not make windows 7 for the HD2 as it has more than 3 buttons :S wtf
I like the demo phone, it's slick, wonder how the back look like.

It's even uglier than my first impression on the day it was officially announced. bleh
I would not install it on my HD2 even if I was paid to do so.
very brilliant os ,look at the animations and the workability
Why is it that all the titles are cut off half way?
It makes no sense. Also, there is so much space...
And WHO NEEDS BING.

Im also not very found with bing, but i'm not gonna go to conclusions yet - lets wait for the MIX event. But the spacing is just ridiculous - 20-25% of the screen at the top is filled with the word "PEOPLE" "GAMES"..... - personally i can't find a logical explanation.
Lock's to me like WM 7 has to be compleate rebuild by xda-members before we can think about to use it. Dont like what I see...
Microsoft should be carefull with their WM devlopment since they already have lose alot of the marked, it's short way to miss the rest of it.
The only thing I don't like is the start screen. if you could skin it with sense I am sold. or customize it to give me what sense gives me I am sold.
what is the screen size of this prototype and what may be its processor
can the design be any worse? I mean hardware and software are disgusting
OK before anyone starts to flame this thread, these are IMO things in Android that could be upgraded to make the average consumer prefer it to the iPhone.
Now I own an EVO and am fully rooted and running a custom ROM and know a lot of people on here are too, I and I assume everyone one else on here already thinks android is better than IOS.
The point of this thread is to point out improvements in the Android OS that will make the average consumer-meaning someone who doesn't know what an .apk is or has heard of XDA developers, or who thinks a task killer is good for your phone. Keep in mind this is a majority of android users. However I will say that android most likely has the largest amount of developers out of any other mobile OS that tweaks/customizes their phone as well.
Now I owned an iPhone 3GS when it first came out, however returned it because of monthly costs with AT&T. I was on a family plan with Sprint and at the time their were no Android phones at all, the only decent touch screen phone was the palm pre.
I really liked the iPhone because of its user friendliness, and the apps.
I have owned the Hero, Moment, and Now the EVO. My cousin needed help JB his iPhone and I am pretty good with that stuff so i did it for him. he has the 3GS, He was gone most of the day and I really got a chance to look at the iPhone and play around with it.
Well Here it goes..
Core apps/interface improvement
Now I know android is supposed to be open and how the user wants it. Their are widgets, apps, live wallpapers, a lot of cool stuff. However scrolling between screens could be a bit smoother, I think we can all say the iPhone may be dull but the physics engine when it comes to scrolling through lists or screens is pretty damn good. I believe that on android would make it a much better user experience.
Another thing is getting rid of all the blackness. The settings menu, text messaging (before eclair) are all black and very dull looking. brighter, more crisp colors makes the phone look alot nicer.
Lastly a battery indicator when charging the Phone. this is one of the things I liked about the iPhone when it was charging, you get a nice clean battery icon to show how much is charged.
keyboard
Now, this kind of still goes along with that boring black look. The Onscreen KB has certainly gotten better with auto correction and learning the way you type, but it doesn't look like something such an advanced phone would release. I know their is the HTC KB, and Droid X KB, but most people don't know about that stuff. I believe a KB that had brighter colors would make it easier to type. One thing IMO the iPhone does better than android is the On screen KB.
Media sync
Now most people on here hate iTunes, but alot of people like having all of their music, videos, and photos in one place. But I believe with clever advertisement and a good optional media application for your PC alot more people will want an android phone. Lets be fair the EVO's screen is huge, but HTC Or Android did not give users a place to download videos in High quality. I think a nice application for your PC that helps users put stuff on their phone would help people who want music on their phone. I know alot of people with iPhones and 99% have it filled up with all their music. I know a few Android users, and I am the only one who actually puts music on their, the rest still use an iPod.
Now before I get flamed for this. I LIKE ANDROID AND PREFER IT TO IOS. however I believe these are fair things that would make Android better. Yes, for developing and flashing ROMS and tweaking their device Android without question is the best IMO. However the OS still needs a little work to satisfy people who just want a functional but "cool" phone.
Agree?
Disagree?
The are a lot of improvements that could and should be made...
None of them I want marketed to the iPhone "lowest common denominator" crowd. When my brother first switched, he complained about every extra menu he had to go in. When I showed him that that extra menu meant endless customizations he said "cool".
We did that enough times that he now says he won't go back.
Lets go through these line by line.

My Evo with custom kernel is very smooth, but I have seen some android phones that are a little laggy. What causes it? Multitasking to many programs? Maybe to many running widgets? I will take the ability to do both of those things over "smoothness"

I like the blackness, if you don't change it... You don't buy android phones to have the color dictated by the manufacturer, you pick, change and choose

Again, choice. DroidX, Stock, Better keyboard, Swype, etc etc etc. Try them all find one that works for you. Or use speech to text, you get the picture. If you buy a 200 dollar smart phone and you can't figure out that there are a **** ton of keyboards in the marketplace the enjoy your iPhone.

It allows you to find your own music and movies without needing itunes. What is easier than drag and drop? Why do I need a clunky interface for what essentially is an easy process?
re: music sync
try doubletwist if you want a syncing app. i don't really want or need it, but it works really well for some others.
the android app was free on the market a few days ago, but for a limited time only is what they said. grab it while it is
Man you are missing the point of the whole post.
I know android allows users on here to customize it to their liking, but I meant for the average consumer who doesn't know what ROMS or rooting is, android could use a little bit of touch ups.
I prefer not having to use a program to manage music, but be honest out of all the people you know with android phones or iPhones which group has more users with music on their phone? I would say the iPhone.
Like I said in the post I know alot of people on here don't like having to use a program to control their music but for their average consumer it makes it easier and more people will like it and buy it.
The KB, again the AVERAGE CONSUMER doesn't know that they have more options. IMO the average user would prefer the iPhone KB because of the brighter colors than the black one on stock android. I Know their are many many different ones to customize and pick from, but most people don't know about those.
I am not saying that the iPhone's OS is superior, but it is popular because it is user friendly and looks nice.
Android works well and lets you customize and with that added smoothness or brighter colors to the OS I would say it would make the average consumer want one over the iPhone.
By physics you mean "easing"

The Evo will never trump the iPhone. Not as long as it's running the second best OS on the market.

Because I got sick of waiting for the white iPhone to come out.
They don't have an iPhone in a color you want so you get a phone you don't really want? Seriously? Thanks for confirming all the things people saying about iPhone users being incredibly stupid

Thanks for confirming that all Evo owners are incredibly shallow. See what I did there? Over generalizing ftl. To each his own. I swapped to an iPhone after a month, not because I hated my Evo, but because Sprint was bad in my area. If you read iPhone boards, they don't whine and complain about the Evo. I don't know why everyone on this board has a complex about the iPhone.
I can agree with the guy above me, its a phone!
Yes this is an Android forum, but the second an iPhone is mentioned everyone starts talking trash about it, its a phone for god sake.

1.) Your call-out makes no sense. The poster was being sarcastic at the other for making a blatantly shallow remark as to why he got the Evo (because there was not a white Iphone available? What the ****? Really?), and you, in turn, called him shallow... that makes absolutely no sense.
2.) As for the rest of your post, I agree... it's more than just fancy specs that make a phone one to buy... in your case, simply HAVING SERVICE was the deal breaker, and rightfully so, lol. I'm the opposite, and AT&T users get absolutely NO service in my apartment buildings, so even if I thought the Iphone was amazing, it'd be a no-go for me.
3.) It doesn't matter what the people post at the Iphone boards. This isn't the Iphone board. Most people here don't visit Iphone boards because **gasp** they don't own an Iphone. With that, you tossing out how "they act" comes off pretty "holier than thou" and has a weird "stealth trolling" vibe to it, because it's irrelevant. At least when you hear most comparisons here, it's about specs and features... you're just grouping the users into categories based on a generalization of how you THINK they think/act, and calling one group better than another. Get that **** out of here.
Anyways, on topic:
It'd be nice if there were more out of the box features that really let android shine over the competition. I completely agree on this. Showing my friends all of the theming, power saving, and doodads is definitely downplayed when they ask about simple features like MMS and I my phone is taking 300 kb files and downgrading them to 17 kb.
I agree with the OP that it would help if the stock OS came dressed up more, just not to the point where you have features you can't change or that the OS becomes bloated. Maybe something like an OS wizard so you can choose how the GUI is set up and it downloads them as needed. With all the different ways to customize it you have to spend a lot of time researching, and you will still always find cool stuff you've missed before.
Also people forget that the iPhone is basically the Gold standard for smart phones right now, wether or not it really is a superior phone. Most everyone knows somebody who has one so it's just something easy to compare too.

I'm not sure about the Nexus S
I may have to get this and Google did say gaming is really a untapped market.
I love the design! looks really sleek
Looks like a redesigned psp go...
Look at the scrolling in the first video at 1:14. It looks like this is the kinetic scrolling we've been wating for in gingerbread! Looks awesome!
Wouldnt touch it knowing sony ericsson it will have 2.1 on it and wont get updated ever been burnt by SE with the X10 i will never ever buy one of thier phones again
nice idea, hope they pull it off properly this time
of course, with sonys track record, i would only get it if devs can root it. but, that applies to any phone.
did ne1 notice @ 0:32 in the first vid , the guy tilts the phone yet the phone does not go into landscape mode untill the game pad is pulled out
how are we supposed to type with this thing ??
i mean neither does it have landscsape view for bigger keyboard nor does it have a physical keyboard !
This does not look like Gingerbread to me. The notification bar has a different gradient than what I saw on the leaked shots of the Nexus S, and the icons look more like standard froyo icons with some green added to them.
Plus, since when does the about screen list the OS codename? Mine says 2.2.1, not Froyo. It seems like Sony didn't have 2.3 yet, or maybe they have a really early build.
Wow, people are these forums are quick to jump to conclusions, and pretending what they make up is fact. Almost as if they try so very hard to be disappointed.
In this case, did you know that you can turn off the automatic screen rotation? What a shock!
lol gotta love the pre-complainign here.
Anyways beautiful looking phone. The slide out portion is hideous though. Thats a ton of wasted space. Im assuming there will be a QWERTY board on there.

It's all but confirmed to have 2.3 and it wouldn't be fast enough to do what they want without having at least 2.2.
Did they promise an update when you bought the phone? No? Then don't expect one.
The phone will come with 2.3.
If Sony Erricson is going to keep letting these leaks out, they might want to un-ugly their phone.
This baffles me. Samsung knows good and well that their super amoled screens suck power when displaying white or colors instead of black. So why in the name of (fill in your deity of choice) did they bring out TW/Lollipop fire the S4 using white backgrounds for settings, the dialer, the calculator, etc? Style over common sense. Why doesn't that surprise me?
Well, it's Google that adopted white for the screen color. So every phone with Android 5.0.x on it is going to have white as the dominant color. Samsung could have fiddled with the colors, but Google would likely have slapped them on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper and said, "no". It already happened once with Tizen.
I don't know why they would even do this. White is also very straining on the eyes during the night..
What will they go for next? Red and Green with Orange?
Luckily CM12 has a dark theme. And the GPE versions here also have a dark theme.
You'd expect Samsung to have final say on what's best for its devices.... Many, many years ago, when I was a systems analyst, I found research done by DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation - remember them?) showing cyan on a black background was optimal for most users in terms of readability and eye strain. I guess Google doesn't care or pay attention to the research, but CM apparently does.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonk...le-used-motorola-to-smack-down-samsung-twice/
http://www.businessinsider.com/google-restrictions-android-2014-9
The first link is a very enlightening one. I feel it should explain to your satisfaction why Samsung, or other Google partners for that matter, can't simply reskin the entire OS like they used to. The second one points out that Google changed its contracts with its partners, requiring more Google app integration, and requiring less customization of the OS. In the first, Motorola's patents were used as a baseball bat to beat Samsung into compliance. Lawyers were used in the second link as a loaded gun pointed at the face of partners telling them to comply, or else.
These actions do NOT prevent someone from taking a copy of Android and forking it, as Amazon did. These actions also do NOT prevent anyone from simply taking the source code and releasing it on a device. However, in both cases, access to the Play Store and the Google apps is denied, and it's the Play Store and apps which drive the popularity of Android, far more than the ability to customize it.
So why can't Samsung simply create a dark version of Android? Because to do so would cost them access to the Play Store, which would cost them far more customers than would be lost by sticking with white.
Both (Google and Samsung) seem to want to fill our phones with crap.
Maybe google should do a survey regarding the next android theme color.
It's a matter of opinion as to what "crap" is. For example, I find most of Samsung's apps to be total garbage, with the exception of the Optical Reader and the Camera app. The Google apps on the other hand are, for the most part, useful. Case in point, I installed Google Translate onto my S4 recently to translate the posts of people who can't be bothered to use a translator on this board and others. On the flip side I find Hangouts to be total crap and prefer the plain 'ol Messaging app. Yet I'm sure there are people out there who feel the exact opposite, in that they like the Samsung apps but hate Google apps.
Google I suspect will endeavor to make everyone happy by including the ability to switch between light and dark, but that probably won't be until Android 6.
Android was just not made for Samsung only but also for all the IPS displays which don't care about this.
Thanks to the chief of design at Google, white background with candy colors and that ugly (for my taste) green font color and icons is considered as fancy, friendly, modern. Not that a person with average brain capabilities shares this opinion. But the decision makers get big money just to make changes, no matter what. Having said that, i am not a big fan of that Material design Hype.
Google just wannabe like Apple and sell pretty things.

Sad. "We" hate the white...
"We" are also a minority, compared to the users who don't root.
actually i do like the white background, the black looks outdated...its a bit boring, i used galaxy phones for 3 years with black background so feel its boring, i want something new and fresh....
A lot of this so-called hate stems from knowledge that the AMOLED displays used in devices from Samsung and others use more power when the pixels are lit and wear out more quickly than a conventional display. With AMOLED, darker is better for battery life.
The average user on the street isn't going to care about light or dark. They care only that their phone works.
You can also see better, during sunny weather, with lower screen brightness.
If white is putting too much strain on your eyes .. you may try reading mode .. in settings > my device > reading mode .. for the first time you need to edit and select the apps like phone.. contacts.. sms.. settings .. which you want their display in reading mode .. you can select maximum 20 apps .. then reading mode can also be turned on and off from the notification bar toggles .. what will happen is the display will have yellowish tint and will be somewhat soft on eyes ..
one dark material theme for us samsung .. if you do care about your old device customers .. we had bought this super amoled blah blah
