I don't have my USB cable at the moment, but in JACHero 2.0, go to Settings -> Wireless Networks, and scroll all the way down. There's an option for "Mobile network sharing", that says "To enable mobile network sharing, please plug in the USB cable."
If this isn't USB tethering, what is it?
I get unable to turn on. so I guess there's either a bug or needs a fix for now

Hi,
I've been looking through the different options on my hero for sharing the internet, however the mobile network sharing option in the menus is greyed out, is there any way to activate this?
you have to have the usb cable plugged in to enable the button
you also must have "mobile internet" turned on. The phone WILL use wifi by preference, if connected, but nevertheless, you must have "mobile internet" turned on for the network sharing option to work
Ah cheers for that, thought it had been greyed out by my provider, or is it only available because my phones rooted?
Hi,
When I connect usb to my phone, I used always to get a popup asking what type of connection I want to use.
Just yesterday, after I have chosen internet sharing, I dont get that popup anymore, I keep getting internet sharing automatically and no popup!!
How do I get the popup back?
I went to Settings -> Connections -> USB to computer
and checked Ask about connection type. But it doesn't seem to ask anymore no matter what I do? How do I fix that please :-(
RESOLVED!
It is resolved! in a wired way.
I haven't been asking for connection type at all but after creating a connection in "Internet Sharing" and then disconnect again. Unplugged the usb and plugged it again. The popup just showed as it used to be!!
Seems like it was stuck somewhere with internet sharing!
Anytime I connect to my home (or work laptop) via USB, the internet no longer works. At work, I can understand this because of the proxy server, etc. Is there any way to always connect via my 3G connection and when connected via USB not to change the connection from 3G?
It's weird cos i have the same problem, but not all the time. When I flash my Miri rom's some seem to work over 3G when connect via USB, my latest one doesn't.
Now i dont sync my device to the PC anyway, so i use the power adapter and bluetooth, thus not having the issue. although I have never bothered to try and figure it out.
to force the data connection, try this
settings menu all settings connections connections - advanced tab, select network, and set the top drop down to the name of your data connection.
(if it already is, then.... ummm I dunno)
sorry but this did not work.
In activesync/WMDC, go to connection settings, and check "allow internet connections while connected" or something like this.
By default it cuts the other connections as the phone will get the net through activesync when it's connected.

this also did not work
On your phone:
Start > Tools > QuickGPS
Menu > Options
Turn off '"Download QuickGPS when connected to PC via ActiveSync".

this worked for me at home, but did not work for me at work (perhaps having something to do with the work proxy?) any ideas...?
I can do it on my one m7
Go to Settings > More under Wireless and Networks >Tethering & Portable Hotspot. From there, you can enable the WiFi hotspot if your computer supports WiFi, or plug it in with the USB cable and turn on USB tethering if it's a desktop. It should just work. You can get the wifi settings under Set up Wifi Hotspot. You have to have a tethering plan to use this. There are a few options on the market that can get around that restriction.
USB Tethering "internet" gone from notification Bar( Lollipop ) . I am guessing Verizon nixed it to stop PDANET any suggestions looking to stick with stock and not flash
I noticed the same thing. When I plug in the USB cable I no longer see internet connection as one of the available options. What worked for me was to use FoxFI and turn on mobile hotspot and then enable the VPN connection that it uses, this will allow you to bypass the provision check from Verizon. Once that mobile wifi hotspot is turned on go to Settings > Wireless and Networks > More > Mobile Broadband Connect and enable that. This will put it into USB Tether mode. After doing that open up PDA Net and activate the USB tether and you should be good to go.
There is kind of a trick to this. You need to ensure that you enable Mobile Broadband Connect while that temporary VPN connection is happening. When the little key icon is in the notification area. But if you have it opened and in the background you should be able to switch to it using the task manager.
