I need some pics. - Touch GSM General

i'm not sure if this is in the right section, but, i'm having problems with the phone and i need someone to send me pictures of the touch with the system settings screen and the phone settings screen. i think i'm missing some things there.
thanks!!

Hi you have to be more specific to allow people to help you
Mention your problems and the settings you want to know about as no one can give you all the settings of a WM running device if your are new to WM try to spend some time on wikipedia
Best of Luck

Well, I'm missing things like Device Information, also, some settings in the "phone settings" are missing. The phone was bought unlocked and it's not getting signal! I can't flash it because the phone doesn't allow me to enter BL mode, I've looked and looked on these forums and basically none of the worked. When I try to get the device info from my pc, everything is blank or "N/A". I have no idea what to do...testpoint?

If your phone is operating and not bricked and you cannot find device information(start/settings/personal/about) or enter the BL to see SPL and IPL (CAMERA BUTTON + reset) and you cannot hard reset this may be a Clone (Fake) device not original HTC one

I can see the About part of it, but not "Device Information". When I go into About, I can see it has an ARM926T OMAP850 Processor and 107.68 for Memory.
Is this right?

My internet caused me to doublepost....................

Oops!!! accor to the processor i doubt ur phone is not a genuine HTC Touch..it must be a chinese clone.

ooh! what's the processor the HTC Touch has?

Original Touch the processor is OMAP850-201MHZ

Open your device, take out the battery.
Check the battery and the whole device, does it have the word 'HTC' or is it something else?

Brand new O2miniS: how to tweak to get max performance?!

Dear all,
I'm new here, I've had a good look through the forum, but I feel a lot of the information is a little over my head. I was hoping for some advice for my new MiniS out of the box:
Regarding setting up my device, are there any programs I should or shouldn't install? Or anything I should uninstall immediately?
Am I better off with the O2 ROM, or is there another I should flash my device with?
Are there any particularly good pieces of software that you could recommend?
Thank-you very much for your help,
s_h_a_h_i_d
look at htc magician forumpart (topics)
look at htc magician forumpart (topics)
Surely since the XDA Mini S is an HTC Wizard, not a Magician, he'd be better off looking at the Wizard forum?
o2 mini is a magician init
Yes, but the thread title refers to an O2 Mini S.....
He is refering to MiniS mate.
HA HA, Now that the squabbles are over, , I'd like to add my bit.
The best thing anyone can do first off with the MINI S is toss that o2 customised crap right off.
I am assuming you have'nt put too much on it yet
Press the soft reset button. (Under the IR port)
As you let go of that reset button, make sure you are pressing both the comm manager button, AND the voice buttons. Thats the top left side and upper right side buttons.
This is called a hard reset and WILL ERASE EVERYTHING prom the phones memory.
Do the screen calibration and cut/paste bit.
When it say's "Tap the screen to start using your device", be ready to press the soft reset again.
This is because when you tap the screen, a customisation box will appear.
PRESS THE RESET BUTTON, when you see this box.
The phone reboots and hey presto, proper PDA, not o2's idea of one.
Hope this helps.
Just to add to the above, there is a thread on here regarding decent software for the PDA.
Have a look through the thread list and you'll see it.
I would recommend Resco as a decent file manager with some excellent features. Be careful with some of these tools if you are not sure what you are doing.
Other than that, have fun.

Hi Jerry-S and everyone.
I've just got a T-Mobile MDA Vario, the Wizard version of T-Mobile.
Would you recommend me doing the same hard reset so that I can get rid of T-Mobile settings?
My Device Information shows:
ROM version: 1.6.2.4 WWE
ROM date: 11/15/05
Radio version: 01.12.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.23
ExtROM version: 1.6.2.105
Can I update to a newer ROM and if yes where can I download it and how can I update ROM, please?
Thanks for your help.
Rgds,
PPB
Hi BUSPBP,
I am a relatively new user myself and won't offer advice on anything I am not sure of.
I have seen ROM updates on here for other networks but as I am on o2 and running my most recent ROM, I can't comment.
Just to be sure you understand though, the updating of a rom that isn't specifically for your unit has many risks. At the end of the day, it's up to you so just put ROM in the search page and have a look at what comes up.
As for removing the Network Provider software, I would assume that the process is the same for them all, as the extra operator features are installed from an extended ROM.
That's to say, the main OS is installed first and then the extra stuff installs afterward.
If you can replace things that you have put on your phone then give it a go, it'll either work or not.
At the end of the day, if you like the extra things and want them back, do another hard reset and let everything install as it wants.
Hope this helps.
Hi Jerry-S,
Thanks for your help. After reading through some threads in this forum I've decided to upgrade my Wizard with the new Qtek ROM. It now works much faster and I don't have any more problem with Wifi connection.
Can you or anybody please advise what does the ExtROM do and if I can exclude it from the device? Any good in doing this?
PPB
If you think of it this way, it's a little easier to understand.
When the device is new or has a hard reset, the following happens.
(If I get this wrong, I'm sure someone will let me know. LOL)
1. The device powers up and a section called the Bootloader starts.
2. As the operating system is not there, it installs it from a ROM.
3. The operating system then runs and you do the stylus calibration
and the date / time settings
4. That is the PDA set up.
5. After that, another ROM is installed, (If you let it), which contains all
the customised software for your particular phone company supplier.
All it means is that the basic Windows OS is running at the same time as the custom software and the Windows functions are accessed by the company customisations that you are presented with.
Because of this, the processor in the PDA is working in effect, twice as hard and it is slower.
As far as I am aware, there is nothing in this custom layer that can't be done directly in the Windows layer.
I would like to upgrade my ROM also as the o2 ROM is one of the oldest versions released, but as I see it, once installed, there is currently no way to downgrade back to the previous version if something goes wrong. Thats the only reason I have'nt done it.
As for removing it completely, I am not sure. I have seen posts on here reffering to that, but I think it is contained somewhere that you couldn't make use of anyway. i.e. Making use of the extra storage space that it takes up.
I know I get a bit long winded, but I have a bit of a job explaining stuff. LOL, sorry.
Hi Jerry-S,
I remember someone told that we could prevent the ExtROM from installation by soft-resetting before that process, but since I don't know yet what are included in the ExtROM and if there's any good in doing so I haven't tried it yet.
I don't know if the O2 device and network settings have anything too special that you could hardly set. In my case though I've got the T-Mobile version I am actually using Orange, so it's perhaps easier for me to come to the decision. And it's worth it for me. No problem with the upgrade, given that I've unlocked CID in advance as someone has warned. And the device is running much faster. That has even halted my intension of doing the overclock, at least for now
PPB
Comments recieved.
I must admit, I kept looking and looking at the ROM file on my computer thinking errrrrrrmmmmm...............
Well I did it, but I didn't notice any real increase in speed, actually it seemed slower to me.
That in mind I though, balls and put the o2 Rom back on.
As for the EXT ROM reatures, I think the main advantage is that the MMS and Mobile web settings are set for you, but those could be found quite easily.

New XDA Exec - Message on screen 'Policy Change'

Hi All - My old XDA died and I bought a 'used one' from O2 (call that 'u1') - so far so normal. O2 also repaired my dead one with a shiny new one (call that one 'n1')
Here is my problem. I backed everything up from 'u1' using SPB Backup. When I tried to restore it all to 'n1', the restore got about 90% through and a system message came up saying 'due a policy change, you need to enter your password'. There was also a drop down box offering anything from 0 minutes to 24 hours' to tell the password when to kick in). This message was generated by the device and NOT SPB. I've never seen this before on an XDA. Has anyone else?
Firstly, I've never come across that message before - any one know if it's because my 'n1' has got newer features on it?
Once the restore completed I soft reset and I was presented with a new screen that I haven't seen before on boot-up. Blue Background with the Windows logo and the words 'Windows Mobile 5'..and the device just hung there. If I soft reset, it just gets to that screen and hangs.
I then HARD reset the device and although I still get this new 'splash screen' (just after the O2 one) it only stays there for around 25 seconds and then the device behaves normally
1. Any ideas what the 'policy change' screen is all about
2. What's the purpose of this extra splash screen?
..and does anyone know if technically it SHOULD be possible to restore from a backup file made on ANOTHER XDA?
Thanks everyone - appreciate any advice you can offer
ROM DATE
u1 = 30 Nov 2005
n1 = 11 Apr 2006
EXTROM
u1 1.13.188
n1 1.30.162
Steve
Well, if you wanted, you could flash the old ROM if anyone has a copy, that way you'll have your "Old" policies back. XD
Thanks...
Thanks for your reply...
I'm mostly OK with PCs but what exactly does 'policy' mean in this context (for the XDA). Is it some sort of security thing?
Any idea why I'm getting this extra splash screen? Is it 'normal'?
S
Jargon aside m8 and what you have is a problem where the backup from the old rom is conflicting with the newer rom and this is quite normal... either restore your old rom (if you have it) or start from scratch with the newer rom apart from the sync with outlook.
To be honest with you I could not explain exactly what policy means since this word could relate to anything in particular and is not necessarely computer jargon...in this case i would say that its the equivalente that some files on your windows system are missmatching???..... http://www.answers.com/policy&r=67 .
WBR
Cheers...
Hi m8 - You're right, it does appear to be a conflict with the different ROMs. What I've found is that in the NEWER ROM there's some extra applets/progs. The one that seems to be causing the problem is the LOCK applet, which I don't think I have on my OLD XDA. It allows you to set a time frame whereby the device will prompt for a password. When I open that on the new one, the screen looks identical to the window that's popping up during the restore.
I think rather than try and restore onto the new one, I'll simply reinstall everything
Thanks for helping me to clarify things!

Need a Guidance Counselor (LOL): How to ROM swap.

This could actually help others for I have read many threads and still don't have a clear HOW TO.
The Thread are for Elfs....from reading threads I GUESS I have an Elf(in)....My Box Reads:
HTC Touch [ROM: 256MB; SDRAM: 128MB DDR]
This is a Rogers branded Touch, grayish color. OS is Windows 6 Professional.
Now I have done some registry hacks, shut off animation and sounds (from TouchFlo too) and the Touch is far better than before, but I still find it somewhat laggy, when flipping through apps, eventhough I have the Task Manager off.
After reading many threads I have two routes that I would like help with:
- Being an Avid Palm programmer, who've done it all, including bricking one (lol), I know for a fact that a fresh, light ROM improves performance and makes the unit much zippier. So which ROM would be the best for me? There are so many around and i dunno which is best for my unit.
- Second, Should I just do the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade, and ride off into the sunset? will it make the unit much better than a custom ROM (i doubt it)...atleast the question is out here.
Lastly, I mainly use the Touch for checking emails, browsing on Wi-fi as well as my network providers'. I use the mobile office a lot, and the messenger as well. For internet browsing I use Netfront, but hope to compare it to the new IE. My aftermarket apps are: SPB Mobile Shell 2.0, Pocket CM, PCM Keyboard, SIP Change, and Advanced Config.
Hope this helps the more experienced members lend me a hand.
Cheers,
Paul
yes!! you should do a rom upfgrade my advice for you is to go with the swiftblades vblue elves rom on the upgrading thread on this great site its very easy for new comers to update their rom using this rom ...its a custom wm6.1 rom ~ so you can ride off into the sunset in style~ and yea 6.1 is alot better than 6,0 its got a threaded sms and it fixes the memory leak...
oh and if you have just post a reply on the forum you got the rom froum usually swiftblade himself will help who ever is having trouble and if he doesnt theres alot of other xda brothers and sisters that will help assist you were like a family here dont be affraid to ask questions theres no stupid questions just stupid people!!!! oh and stupid answers!! ~
and here you go i will help you out with the rom updating process it is very simple but worry some... the reason im saying use blue elves is because it has a cid unlocker built into the package... and it has very clear instructions!!!
FOR FIRST TIME CUSTOM ROM UPGRADERS:
1. Copy the Cert_SPCS.CAB and EnableRapi.CAB from the zip folder to your device's Storage Card.(###*** you dont have to do this step if you have allready used the sim unlocker program!!***###)
2. Install the two cabs to your Device memory and do a soft reset.
3. Restart your PC or laptop (Optional)
USING THE INTEGRATED ROM UPDATE UTILITY WITH USPL CID UNLOCKER:
(ATTENTION: REMOVE YOUR 4GB, 6GB or 8GB mircoSDHC CARD WHEN FLASHING THIS ROM!)
1. Turn off your computer's Anti-Virus software if you can. ( not nescary )
2. Activesync your device to your PC using USB port.
3. When the connection is completed (after synchronisation), double-click on [START] batch file to begin the integrated ROM Updating Utility.
4. Now follow closely the instructions that appear on the computer screen.
5. Press [ENTER] to accept at each prompt to continue the process.
6. After Step 2/3 of USPL CID Unlocker, the device screen will turns "blank white" and your activesync icon gray (in Windows XP only).
Congratulations! You have successfully CID unlocked your device. Press [ENTER] to proceed NOW!
(NB: If you failed to see the "blank white" screen, then your CID unlocking has failed.
Restart your installation process from Step No.1)
(####**** now dont panic if you dont get the white screen just soft reset your device sticking the tip of your styulus in the hole to the right of the usb port... then you may get the tri color loader dont panic just soft reset again then you may get a screen that will prompt you on a few things ###***your screen will not respond.... this is when you remember you have HARD KEYS!!!!! youll need to use them in this if you get it***### dont panic yet just continue pmce your started again set up active sync and start your process all over again!!! your phone shouldnt be bricked
7. Your device will now proceed to update your rom. Select and hit [NEXT] at each prompt to continue.
8. When the rom updating is completed at 100%, your device will restart automatically.
9. Congratz! You have successfully upgraded to a new rom.
Enjoy & Lots of Have Fun!
(((####****and remember this is why you DIDNT BUY AN IPHONE!!! ****####)))
Thank you very much Bereda, and thanks for such a warm welcome. My next question is....which of all the ROMS is the one that I want? I see several versions and only one says Touch on it, the rest say Elf, Elf(in), etc. Mine on the box says Touch, but in here it seems that the Elf is also the Touch, a bit confused...
Cheers,
Paul
i also recomand this rom.
I will go ahead and give it a go, as soon as I know which is the best ROM for my Equipment.
Thanks OmerS,

I have no idea what I am doing. LOL. Why would I do a Rom upgrade??? And secondly where can I upgrade to WM 6.1. I have the HTC Touch..Please help!!!
AfflictedSatisfaction5, Welcome to the Club. A clean ROM eliminates many apps that one rarely uses, that consumes memory and normally are replaced by other third party apps. In General, a modified ROM runs quicker and better than the OE ROM.
You can find the WM 6.1 upgrade on the Microsoft Windows Mobile Site and take it from there OR Get a custom ROM with WM 6.1 already there.
I am just waiting to see which ROM is the one for my phone, since there are several variants of internal ROM memory (64, 128, 256, etc).
Cheers,
Paul
If you have a Rogers branded HTC Touch, BEFORE you do anything, try to dump your ROM. (Read around, you'll find how to do it). The community, including myself, been struggling with this for months. Thanks.
Evilmonkey...will search for ROM dumping...by the way, it IS a Rogers Branded HTC....BUT...my phone will not be used for Rogers network, but for a latin american company called Viva.
Cheers,
Paul
after u dump backup ur current rom.. i suggest u make up ur mind what u want for instance, there are many many variants of touch roms around here ranging from bare naked clean bases to fat boy mem hogging bloated ones.. u can check my thread for a clean base rom or try kokotas's new rom (its fresh) blue elves and shadow ce takes the cake like always
happy flashing
i didn't dump my rom and i have a rogers htc touch aka htc elfin... not elf so paul you have a elfin... and trust me stick with the custom roms theres no need to dump your rom due to the fact that theres like 20 of the "rogers" rom on here already just download a copy of it and your set... thats if you want to step backwards and go back to stock...if you get a stripped down rom from the windows mobile website you loose out on all the features that make this phone a touch and a iphone killer... i think its wrong to take out the cube and other programs that are made for the touch! these programs are why you bought a touch in the first place... its like buying a Lamborghini and taking the five speed and the v12 out of the car and replacing it with a automatic transmission and putting in a little 1.8 litter v4... like what would be the point of buying a Lamborghini if your going to make it just like all the other economy cars... plus you could have saved your self a ton of time and just bought a 318i bmw... and for the people that do strip it down to nothing, why didnt you just buy the htc p3300 plain and simple htc ppc like all the rest.

instead of making judgements, i suggest you read the specifications and reasons mentioned by the great rom builders of xda in their threads why they have striped down their roms. people may buy touch so they can get a faster 201mhz device at economy prices

i dont know anything in detail about cars but i'll still add my 2 cents. its more like buying a lamborghini and heavily tweaking it by stripping the parts and adding some, removing some and building a entirely new car out of that to suite each one's individual likes and dislikes. having done that you get a personalised car designed by your own hands and will n wish
for the people that do strip it down to nothing, why didnt you just buy the htc p3300 plain and simple htc ppc like all the rest

two words for that one "MORE SPEED" i suggest you take a look at this http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=619&id2=947 and you'll find the answer why we dont buy p3300 against a touch. its good to retain the looks of the touch and have more speed like dual and more options for functionality as per our likes n dislikes
hope paul finds what he is looking out for. i personally dont advice and support picking up a rom from an expert and editing it to your tune. either use it as is or build your own rom happy cooking or flashing
Ha ha ha ha ha, thanks Bereda and thanks Ababrekar, and please...be nice
Bereda: Thanks for the explanation NOW i know my is an "ELFin", LOL, only knew it as a Touch. Thanks also for the tip...so I shouldn't dump it, i don't have a lot of things on my phone....3 weeks old so..... the personal data or course is backed up.
Ababrekar: Thanks for the encouragement pal... Like Bereda said, I'd like the HTC pack that is offered on the Blue Elves ROM, plus if you read my initial post.. most of the apps i used (SIP Change, PCM keyboard, etc) are already in that ROM so....
I take it this is the ROM I want....right? :

That's in almost the same screen as the version. Click the part of the screen where you found the version, then a more extensive screen shows with software version, available memory, gps driver version, map version, language, device id (that's what you're looking for) and some more.
Maybe you should look a bit better in stead of asking it right away? I get the impression that you don't search or try very hard, while that's the best and nicest way to learn things about the X1, Windows Mobile or any other thing actually.

How to disable HTC Sense on HD2?

Can anybody help me to do this to have regular wm interface on my HD2?
Thank you,
Igor
Start -> Settings -> Right Softkey -> More.. -> Today -> Items
Many thanks!
If the usual Settings aren't reachable, in the settings tab of Sense rechter Softkey und dann More.
I need to completely disable Sense without flashing new ROM (I plan to flash custom ROM in 2-3 months, but not now), especially the phone app. I'm using Inesoft Address Book and sometimes it doesn't start and I'm forced to use the default installed crap . It's lovely during the call when you are in hurry and an application you know nothing about is waiting for your commands.
I have the 1.66 WWE stock ROM.
Need to completely disable HD2 user interface
Similar problem. I have the stock HD2 and I would prefer having the WM 6.5 user interface.
Let me clarify, I want the whole HTC HD2 user interface reverted back to WM 6.5 and not only the Today's Screen.
Is that even possible without getting a new ROM.
I have very little experience and time and don't feel comfortable playing around with flashing the ROM and radio.
Thanks in advance.
in the same menu where you uncheck HTC Sense
scroll up and enable Windows Default and soft reset
it uses the default windows applications which i find to actually be quite usable and much faster
Is there a default WM6.5 messaging program? I disabled Sense, but it still uses the HTC Messages program for my texts.
ace07 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
As always, there is a catch.
Thanks. This is very helpful. Sense does not set messages as read and causes many extra clicks to get to the right place...
Switch to windows default, the lesser evil one between Sense and Windows.

a soft key refers to the bottom of the screen, there are typically 2-3 "buttons..."
let me explain differently, don't look for a physical button, just look in the bottom right corner of your screen, you'll see the word MORE (once in settings) click it, you've just hit a "soft key"
I have a kumar ROM, I can't find where to disable sense. I need to disable to install the new messaging client. Anyone know where I can find it? It's not in the all settings section.
This is single handedly the best thing I have done to my HD2. This phone has come alive! Thanks for the how-to!
HD2 unresponsive screen want sense removed but how?
Hello all!
Hopefully, I am asking this question at the right place...
I sort of stumbled upon an apparently new (i.e. in excellent condition, no scratches, etc, almost like new) HD2 which will boot but brings me to a non responding touch screen. The hard keys work, I can even receive a phone call BUT I cannot use the touch screen which is unresponsive. Someone at work that I asked told me he just does not have the time to spend trying to fix it for me (even for a fee) but supposedly it is the HTC Sense feature that messes things up. He adviced me to remove sense and try the old fashioned windows look.
I want to try to remove sense but how can I do that when the screen does not work? The phone is recognized and syncs fine when I connect it to my PC using Windows Mobile Device Center. Is there a utility that will allow me from inside my PC's windows to disable "sense" on the HD2?
By reading this thread, it appears that the HD2 works better without it anyway! (and quite frankly I have no idea what sense is or what it is for, some kind of UI maybe?)
Thank you.
if it's software related then do hard reset or flash another ROM
