Doesn't look all that different now does it?
Ehm? Flat upper-bar?
Whatta hell? Year 2002 called, it wants his single-color bars back.
Seems like Microsoft gave up on trying to make "professional" looks match the iPhone. Which is not good.
Edited addon: Ah, the greyish scroll bars are still there to add clutter to the today-screen and meet the user with oodles of usability.
Deepfish included... Interesting.
can't believe it still looks like sh**
lol still look identical, MS really dont want to get on the move and do something more like apple

From the pictures it looks like Internet Calling is now supported on the ROM, so maybe there will be new rtcdll files that will fix the speaker.
Wow, people are complaining about not having gradient bars... Hmm, should you really be using a PDA phone then? Personally I don't like gradient bars. I'd rather have my text more readable on a distinctly opposite colored background. But I'm more for function. Hopefully Deepfish will be on it and it better be good because that's the race that M$ needs to catch up on. Web browsing. Not what color the bars are.
Photon is rumored to be the "real change". We'll see...
Well if the next version goes the same way as Vista did then I feel I will be looking at an Iphone. Just think of all the pop ups you can "ok" when a new call comes in.
Ring Ring ---> pop up
A new call has been dected do you want to answer ?
The New caller can not be found in your adddress book, do you still want to answer it?
The caller is on hold do you still want to answer it anyaway.
The caller has been rejected as his phone has not been signed or does not have a Windows operating system.

He's right. MS needs to stop slacking and put out something they called "revolutionary" sooner than later. This 6.1 looks terrible.
Don't know what people were expecting. Why would a point update include real big changes?
I'm not sure that is an actual release for Windows Mobile PPC, but I know what it looks like for the Standard: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/12/07/windows-mobile-61-video-walkthrough/
Sorry, I don´t trust it, for me its a fake,
but we´ll see.
Cheers and regards

On Tweakers.net I found a post about a nice app for the iPhone. It shows how much minutes/text-messages you have left in your current contract period. It retrieves the information right away from the T-Mobile website as they are the only iPhone-retailer in the Netherlands.
Is an application like this also possible on the Diamond? I know it depends on the fact if the data is retrievable from the website of the operator (supposing not everybody is using T-Mobile ), but maybe some bright minds in here can take a look at it. Would be a great application I think to check your contract-status now and then.
Here’s the link to the post on Tweakers.net (Unfortunately it’s in Dutch): http://tweakers.net/nieuws/56342/t-mobile-werkt-niet-mee-aan-belstatusapplicatie-iphone.html

Howzeet
Search XDA for lcminutes it might help
i know exacly what you mean.
and no its not something like lcminutes.
its checking the realtime status of the minutes, at the site of the operator. so it depends on off the operator enables this sort of functions
i dunno if it can be done, but... i got a in-between solution for ya..
this is what i have done..
i``m dutch so, i just know this would work...
you can set the igoogle page as the homepage of youre browser. in the igooglepage you can place a widget (thats how they call such apps) called t-mobile belstatus..
then you need to go to the site of t-mobile to activate the widget...
voilia... whenever you start youre browser, you at first see you leftover minutes.
this works for me...
just keep in mind that the widget works with cookies, so dont clean them up otherwise you need to reactivate the widget again...
however, if there are pplz who can develop an standalone app it would be much better to use that instead...

Yeah, something like that is what i'm looking for. The only difference is that this program will count the minutes on its own.
If some Dutch guy knows how to retrieve the data from Hi (like it is possible from T-Mobile) please let me know.
@quark1980
I'm able to add t-mobile belstatus to iGoogle page, but not able to activate it.
Because IE doensn't log in & Opera 9.5 doens't pick up my credentials :-S
How did u do it quark1980?
Thanks in advance?
P.S. would be nice any guru or someone can create the program like for iPhone t-mobile belstatus for WM...
I was wondering if anyone could write an app that would allow any screen taps/pressure to glow.. think the BB storm KB but just over the entire OS.
I know there's one to allow the device to vibrate so i hope this wouldnt be too hard.
what is the name of the vibrating application?

I think that would look really nice, I would like to see that done so I hope some one picks up on the idea and is willing to develop it. I can't imagine it would be that hard to do, would be nice with a few variable parameters like transparency, diameter and colour, I guess you might need an exception list too. Cool idea!
I have a couple of problems with the contact list and the phone favorites portion of the Sense UI.
1) Are there any way to display First name then Last name in contact list? Everyone in my contacts have Last name then First name.
2) Also, if it's just a company name, when you add a contact to the "shortcuts" (the 3x3 boxes), it says "No Name". There must be a way to fix that.. right? I'd hate to go into all of my contacts that only have business names and fix it by putting the company name in the first name field. Especially considering that I'm syncing contacts with Google contacts and I would prefer to have each field be accurate.
3) Lastly, because most of my contacts do not have pictures, and the "shortcuts" will only display first name. I would for example have 5 Johns w/o any way of immediately knowing which John it is. Are there any workarounds for that?
If it's a configuration setting for some/all of these issues, could someone please point them out to me? I apologize in advance if it's a simple thing and I just couldn't find where the settings are.
Allied to the points just raised - I would like to change my favourite contacts to display surname, not just the first name. Is there a workaround to achieve this please?
Bump. Are we the only 2 people that see these as issues? Or have you guys figured out some workarounds?
Count me in...i am shouting about this from my touch pro 2 time ... i have put a shortcut to contacts in main tab, and set it to view them filtered by company name, it helps a little.
To get first name first =
Find a contact, edit the contact... scroll all the way down to the bottom, and push the "more" button. Change the second "name choice" - I cant remember what exactly its named in english. But is should be the choice of how to vies the contact. In this form you can choose first og last name.
I have'nt figured out how to do/if its possible to mass change this. I have onlyd found one by one solution
Hope it was helpfull

Company logo as the contact picture perhaps? I've done that myself, far better than a blank box anyway.
Similar thing with your collection of Johns.

I think what you're trying to say is change the 'File as' to First name, Last name.
Perhaps there's a registry hack to change the default behaviour of this field?
ContactFix
Search for ContactFix v1.3 & this will do what you're looking for. I use this & it works great on HD2.

Yes ! That is the name of the field for changing first or last name Thanks !
could you point to me where ContactFix v1.3 is? I found a posting by someone with 4 cabs here:

However, installing it does nothing on my HD2. Can you tell me where the ContactFix v1.3 is? thanks!
Bump. Could someone point me to the location for the ContactFix program? I searched but couldn't come up with exactly v1.3 of the program. Anyone?
Thanks in advance for the assistance!

I'm sorry to dig up an old thread of my own, but I still have an issue un-resolved from the ContactFix solution. The ContactFix solution does provide the sorting fix. However, in the Sense UI's "shortcuts" for the People, I can still only have a first name.
So if you've got 5-6 Johns and you don't have a picture for them, then you are pretty much screwed - you can't really tell which is which unless you have memorized exactly where on the shortcut list you've placed them.
HTC, could you please fix this? I really don't understand how something as basic as this was missed in QA!

I believe the shortcuts are meant to be used with a photo. There's no room there to put labels with first and lastname. So unless you name them John1, John2 etc, I don't think there's a solution.
30 seconds in MS paint should give you an image with Faceless John's full name typed on it. It's a reasonable workaround for those shadowy figures with no visible appearance.
Not perfect, but it's something.
Further to the earlier raised issue of contacts defaulting to File As.. Last Name, First Name.
I have between 450 - 500 contacts in Outlook and sync'd to my HD2 via Exchange Server. Works well. Nearly all of the time my contacts are added/edited on my laptop and I love the fact they are automatically 'there' on my phone.
I also like the HTC front-end interface for the Contacts bit of Windows Mobile 6.5, making it easier (finger friendly) to add contacts. However this interface neither gives you the option to default to File As.. First Name, Last Name nor let you change it on entry/edit. Instead you have to then go into the native WM6.5 Contacts bit and change it there. A bit of a pain and oversight in my opinion.
Ideally there'd be a way to set a default? Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance..
I'm sorry, but that's not a reasonable request from my point of view. The system should at least give you the option.
To be honest, I really think you've used to mediocre OS for too long. I did not just spend $800 so I can use MS Paint to paint a faceless John full name typed on it. If I spent $50, I might be okay with that, but not when I spend $800.

Actually, I have a question: Would a custom ROM for HD2 be able to fix this? I'm just asking about the possibility, not whether we can do it right now or not. I know that the phone is so new that we don't have custom ROMs yet.
But would it be possible for a custom cooked ROM alleviate issues like this?

Can someone tell me if the HTC Snap from Telus and the Maple from Wind are the same, cause they both look different Also will the roms in this section work on both if or if not.

Yes they're the same. The snap is a Maple form factor, the only differences are some of the buttons are slightly different IE: on the Dash 3g (aka snap, maple), the inner circle key from the sprint or verizon snap is replaced with a generic shortcut key. Some of the other keys are moved around abit too. Mainly the camera and message keys. Everything else is the same.
Going from snap to maple wind the proprietary software such as inner circle or MyFaves (Dash 3G) will be different as well. It all depends on the provider whom HTC designed the phone for. Hope this helps. Concerning the ROM you'll have to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=502
Make ABSOLUTELY SURE the rom is the correct one for your phone. The 3vo rom I have is the newest build for our phone types too. You'll see things like Inner Circle and MyFaves services if you flash the rom, but MyFaves is disabled by default in the UITweaks section of the ROM. You'll still have the software but A) it won't be visible and B) it won't be functional since you're not with T-mobile. As I said before though, just make damn sure the ROM you flash is the correct one for your phone and the phone should theoretically do the rest.
Thanks for the info. So basically in short form, if i had a Snap the rom should have Snap in the title. Same goes for the Maple and Dash?

Yup that's about the size of it. If you really want to know what kind of form factor your phone is do this: Power the phone down completely and look under the battery. On the back panel it should say something along the lines of MAPL100 or similar. Whatever the beginning is wil be what type of phone you have. I think Cedar says CEDA100 or something. But yeah, that's about it.
One very important difference between the two is that the WIND HTC Maple is a GSM/UMTS band phone whereas the Telus HTC Snap is a GSM/CDMA phone.

Thanks for the added info Ziv, I have a dash 3g which is a maple form factor. I had no clue about those particular differences!
