Yes they're the same. The snap is a Maple form factor, the only differences are some of the buttons are slightly different IE: on the Dash 3g (aka snap, maple), the inner circle key from the sprint or verizon snap is replaced with a generic shortcut key. Some of the other keys are moved around abit too. Mainly the camera and message keys. Everything else is the same.
Going from snap to maple wind the proprietary software such as inner circle or MyFaves (Dash 3G) will be different as well. It all depends on the provider whom HTC designed the phone for. Hope this helps. Concerning the ROM you'll have to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=502
Make ABSOLUTELY SURE the rom is the correct one for your phone. The 3vo rom I have is the newest build for our phone types too. You'll see things like Inner Circle and MyFaves services if you flash the rom, but MyFaves is disabled by default in the UITweaks section of the ROM. You'll still have the software but A) it won't be visible and B) it won't be functional since you're not with T-mobile. As I said before though, just make damn sure the ROM you flash is the correct one for your phone and the phone should theoretically do the rest.
Thanks for the info. So basically in short form, if i had a Snap the rom should have Snap in the title. Same goes for the Maple and Dash?

Yup that's about the size of it. If you really want to know what kind of form factor your phone is do this: Power the phone down completely and look under the battery. On the back panel it should say something along the lines of MAPL100 or similar. Whatever the beginning is wil be what type of phone you have. I think Cedar says CEDA100 or something. But yeah, that's about it.
One very important difference between the two is that the WIND HTC Maple is a GSM/UMTS band phone whereas the Telus HTC Snap is a GSM/CDMA phone.

Thanks for the added info Ziv, I have a dash 3g which is a maple form factor. I had no clue about those particular differences!

I've been playing this weekend, first downgrading the ROM with 1.04 bootloader, so I could upgrade to the latest HTC x.35 ROM. Having done that and upgraded the radio to the latest version as well, I find I still have one issue.
I've combed through all the registry hacks and have flipped the right bits and entered the appropriate keys/strings and yet I can't get this phone to display anything but "ROGERS" (302720) on the today screen. I was successful changing the operator name on my HTC Herald before sending it off to a friend, but this unit will not cooperate.
Anyone have some hints on where else (obscure if necessary) I can look to make this thing display what I want?
I've never been able to do this either on the Hermes
I kinda think I'm missing the point here...but I got rid of most of my Cingular logos simply by simply downloading all the stuff in my 8525's \windows directory to my pc, and finding all the gif's, png's and jpg files that were Cingular logos. Then I loaded those graphics into photoshop and made transparent images of the same size and properties, saved them back using the original names, and reloaded them to the original locations on the 8525. Restart, and voila, no more Cingular branding.
Maybe this will work in your case?

No actually, this has nothing to do with the files on the phone, except that the tweak to change the Operator Name given the right registry value (302720) should work, but doesn't.
OK ... never mind. But I'm confused by what you're asking. You actually have Rogers branding on your Today Screen? Where does it appear?
Maybe this is something Cingular didn't implement? (Thankfully?)
Sorry I couldn't help. (wish there was an icon for "embarrassed"),
No, not branding, it's just displaying "Rogers" on the homescreen when I'd prefer to dictate what it displays.
Cruisin1966 - Rogers name is part of SimCard, you wan't change it.
Same was here - non VoiceStream (or current T-Mobile US) cards said VoiceStream (T-Mobile US), VoiceStream (T-Mobile US) cards said VStream (T-Mobile).
It is part of SIMcard and if your's OTA operator can change name as they want.
Hope this help
No disrespect intended, but please re-read my original post. I successfully changed the name displayed on the homescreen with the HTC Herald, and my question was why can't I changed the name displayed on this 8525.
Cruisin1966 - Question: Does Rogers has 3G network so your phone could log in there?

3G isn't available anywhere but around Toronto, as far as I know. Definitely not in/near Calgary, that much I do know.
Cruisin1966 - hmmm I thought that it might be OpName over UMTS but now it might be just imposible to change SIM directive in this model. I have the same problem with Cingular or T-Mobile.
Lets wait for official aku 3.3 and then we can go back to this discussion.
Just spent the day playing around with the Tytn 2 and I got to say apart from the flip up screen, HSDPA, and a few small registry edits its pretty much the same as a Herald. The gap is even smaller when you add in the fact that the new custom roms for the herald have an even newer build and touchflo (with the cube which the kaiser is missing) packaged together.
One feature that I liked though (part of the few small registry edits) is when you press [FN+Wi-Fi] on the keyboard it turns on wi-fi instead of opening the comm manager. I'm not sure about you guys but I think this is a great feature considering that the comm manager never closes itself.
Can anyone with prior knowledge of how the keyboard shortcuts work (registry location???) let me know how I can add this feature to my phone. I guess if it comes down to it I can borrow it again and create a registry dump but I hope it doesn't come down to that.
And while i'm on the topic of comparing these two phones does anyone think its theoretically possible to encase a Herald into the housing of a Kaiser...just a thought.
Cheers

LOL @ that idea but i also think that the keycombination for switching on WiFi is pretty nice goog finding
Today I received my Telstra Touch HD, so I thought I would add some information about the results of the Telstra and HTC collaboration for those who have been interested.
First Impressions
The box is branded with the Telstra and Next G logos in the lower right hand corner. When you flip the box over to the back you see confirmation of the bandwidths
- HSPA/WCDMA 850/2100MHz
- Quad band GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/900/1800/1900MHz
The box was lighter than expected, the Touch Pro seemed much heavier. This box also is much better than the silly TP packaging. I was surprised to see the caution, "Remove from pants pocket before sitting down", it will be interesting to see how that turns out
Telstra/Big Pond Branding
I have attached some pics of the Telstra/Big Pond pages.
After i have had a chance to play with my new toy, I'll add some more info.
Thanks... boy I wish we could change/reassign the tabs at the bottom of the screen... like the the phone companies apparently can. I'd love to setup a favorites for web pages, TV, books etc

I bet you can get all of it if the devs can get a ROM dump.
I have a T8282 and I borrowed a friends T8285 to upgrade to Dutty's 3.4 XT for them.
I am on the Telstra network and I played with the settings while driving around and downloading data but couldn't notice any visual difference between my usual 8282 and the 8285.
Is there anything special i need to do to get it to use Telstra's NextG? Will the automatic settings use the UTMS 850 by default?
Ok so im new to the HTC experiences. but i just love this ohone. im a noob here but if you could help me i would be happy.
i was on the old HTC touch before the diamond and i loved that phone too.
anyway the one thing that pisses me off is the texting confirmation pop up it has every time i send a text. Like **** off! give me a text if the message was not sent not if it was!
anyway i looked through the phone and i cant see a way of turning it off. i was able to on the HTC touch, but not on the diamond.
anybody know a back door i can shut it off? i know the GSM diamond and the CDMA diamond are made a little different in size and hardware and what not. so if you know anything about the CDMA diamond then i could use your help.
download 'diamond tweak' or 'advanced configuration' they both have an option to turn off the 'confirm SMS sent' option. Or it's in the registry but these gui's are better and contain other useful tweaks too.
hey bro! CDMA phones = ppcgeeks.com
check it out!
What about GSM diamonds?
Hi, saw u mention ppcgeeks.com as "the" place to go with CDMA diamonds. You wouldn't happen to know a good site with downloads for GSM diamonds would you?

Actually yes, the best site is (in case you didn't noticed): www.xda-developers.com
I have an unlocked, pre-release t-mobile Dash 3g (Snap/Maple).
The ROM does not have any t-mobile icons in it, which is kind of nice. Makes me wonder what ROM this is?
Anyway, is there a cab file or something to add Inner Circle? I like the idea of a White List for email, etc. Which is basically what it is.

For some reason, Inner Circle has to be cooked into a ROM. I have built many cabs of it that just don't work.
You can see what version your ROM is in Settings, About.
