Wifi won't turn on at all - Touch HD General

I noticed over the weekend that my wifi wouldn't turn on using either the communication tab or the wifi tab in settings. When I click the turn on wifi box in settings it stays grey for a few seconds and then unticks itself. It doesn't even show the icon on the top status bar.
I was running the stock HTC 1.14 rom and have now upgraded to the recent HTC upgrade.
Has anyone had this problem? I've thought it was time to upgrade to one of Dutty's roms but really want to fix the problem before. Is it likely the wifi is defective on my phone? I don't really want to contact my provider as I currently have an unlocked phone from mobiles.co.uk and I think if it was replaced it would be with a locked phone.
I've checked the previous logs submitted and the only solution I found was to upgrade or downgrade the rom but this hasn't helped.
Any ideas?

Try going to:
Settings > Connections > Wifi > Wireless Networks > Network Adaptors and setting this to 'The Internet'
and also go to:
Settings > Connections > Wifi > Advanced > Power Mode and setting this to 'Best Performance'
Now try connecting to wifi
Let us know how you get on

I've just tried this and it still won't switch on. Any more ideas? Do you need any information from the phone?

Did you exeperience any other problems after upgrading to newer HTC rom....i.e. phone not working, no signal or discolourisation in screen after reboot?
Or is this the only problem?
Just trying to get better understanding of your problem.
Unfortunately I am heading out to a meeting so hopefully someone else can help you.
I'd recommend if all else fails to try a hard reset or reflash rom and possibly use USPL V2.5 beforehand. Also read cRaCKwHoRe's guide (see my signature)

i am experiencing the same problems you have. check your camera too, mine doesnt work either. i have flashed other roms and still have problems.

This promlem occurred before the HTC rom upgrade so I don't think it caused it. I have noticed that my battery life is terrible since the upgrade tho - today I unplugged the phone from charge at 0540hrs and by the time I got to work at 0700hrs it was at 91%. Since then I've made 1 phone call for 2minutes and used the SatNav for 15 minutes and its down to 61% at 0930hrs!!!
Before the reboot the only issue I noticed was that BBC IPlayer sounded as if it was running at 95% speed as the voices on the radio sounded slowed down - anyone else experience this?
I spoke to HTC yesterday and they think the WIFI has packed up. I'm going to return the phone to them under warrantee tomorrow but they said if they find ANY software unauthorised on the phone that THEY deem to be the cause then they will charge for the repair. Can anyone confirm that a hard reset will remove TF3D config and the HD tweek app completely as these are the only bits of software I don't want them to know about.

[RESOLVED] Stock HTC Hero WiFi issues

So I UNrooted my phone back to default factory (flipz RUU 156) and when I turn my WiFi on it stays up for about 10 mins, then goes down. And sometimes when I turn the WiFi on it does not turn on at all. Has my HERO gone bad? Should I get a replacement?
*UPDATE* 2/24/2010
Wow..... I might have solved this once and for all.....
go to WIRELESS CONTROLS > WI-FI Settings > ADVANCED (CLICK MENU TO BRING UP ADVANCED) > WI-FI sleep policy > NEVER
(Power off your phone, turn it back on and you should be good to go)
Wow... i guess the default setting is "WHEN SCREEN TURNS OFF"
If that's not the default settings, then I don't know why the hell mine was on that.... Anyways, I think this will FIX WI-FI issues...
Let me know....
*UPDATE* 2/26/10
I am setting this thread to RESOLVED. If this does not fix your WIFI issues, let me know and I will take this off being resolved.
If you do go for a replacement, I recommend you go through insurance and pay the 100 dollar deductible. New policy at sprint, if we do a free exchange and then find out it was damaged/modded, 500 dollar charge to your account as of 2-17.

I just recieved the email this morning. And I can't link to Sprint Knowledge Management System documents. There was a max fee of 200 dollars for non-returned or damaged phones when a warranty exchange is done. As you know, a warranty exchange can only be done if it's a device issue, not caused by water damage, physical damage, or flashing (as we all know, that voids the warranty). Since the phones are getting so expensive and so many people want free phones, the maximun fee for a non-returned or non-warranty covered device exchange has been increased to 500 dollars (dependendant upon model of phone) as of 2-17. Of course, they usually just check for red stickers and cracked screens and what-not, I just wanted to put it out there that it might be a safer bet just to go through insurance.
lets be honest here though, there are certain foolproof ways around that. Besides, nobody is actually investigating with these phones. They MIGHT turn it on (big if), look for the sprint bootscreen, the stock homescreen, and say everything is fine.

Well I did a factory settings reformat using RUU.. So I don't need to worry about this....
Wasnt trying to scare anyone, just letting you know we have a new policy. And correct, the drones who recieve the defective phone turn them on, hard reset, check for and hardware issues, fix them, then we send them out as relpacements. I know we dont get too deep into the phone because we often send people phones that still have IT policies on them that don't allow them to sync and go to certain websites.
Anyways... Back to the topic...
How can I test if my WIFI has gone bad or not... I thought it was because I was on a custom ROM that my WIFI would not work properly... So I UNROOTED my phone, I am back on defaults, yet I still have WIFI issues...
Ok, have you tried unchecking Mobile Network when using wifi? just a thought. Is this on any wireless network you attempt to connect to, or just one at your home? Do you recieve any kind of error message? If you get me the specifics I'll run it through the think tank here at Sprint (which is composed of me and two other guys) and see if we can re-create using one of our test phones.

Yes, I disable mobile network, then enable WIFI. At home, it picks up my network but my WIFI disables after 10 mins. At work, my wifi is enabled, but never finds a network...
Ok, never heard of a wifi problem on the hero, gonna grab a test phone and see if I can F*ck it up.
Mine is acting weird lately also. Before my WIFI worked great until I started to root it. After that it was never the same. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. At home for some reason I can't connect to my routers. I have never changed the settings of them. So if I go to a WIFI hot spot it works just fine? Weird!
Were you having problems before you started rooting and flashing your device? If not, try re-installing the original 1.29.xx RUU, or try reflashing the version you just put on there. Sometimes weird things happen, and the only way to fix is to reinstall.

I am back on factory settings.... Honestly, I never tried the wireless when I bought the phone... I only started using it after I ROOTED my phone... so =\
I did the whole factory reset already. Reflashed with the ruu rom and still no go. I think I stumble into something here as of yesterday though. I was at my friends house and WIFI works great there. So I'm assuming my routers need to be reconfigured for my mac address or something. I can't explain it I have never heard of this before but thats what I think it is. Also maybe the rom upgrade changes the radio which might change mac addresses right? IDK just thinking here. Peace, Thanks.

Same here... Maybe it does have something to do with the MAC ADDRESS... who knows... blah....
ok... SO I might have better info now....
My wifi turns on when I click the WIFI button, I see the ICON on the top taskbar and everything... But as soon as my phone goes IDLE (which I have it set to 30 seconds or 1 min) as soon as I bring it back up, the WIFI is gone...
So maybe now someone can help me...

I had the same issue on a mixed-mode 802.11g/n DLINK AP. I changed the mode to G only. Also, one of the wifi scanners in the market rates AP 802.11g channels from 1-11 telling you the best to use. May want to look in that direction too. My router had a channel auto-scan mode which I turned off and hard coded the highest ranked channel from the wifi app. After I made these two changes, I haven't had any discos.
BTW: My router logs showed "Client disconnected: Deauthentication" until I made those two changes (no more mixed mode and a hard coded channel).
Hope this helps.

Data connection issue

I'm having trouble with my data connection as it keeps turning off. One minute, I'll be sitting there with H/3G and the next I look up and my connection is gone. I'll have to go into the Comm Manager and turn it back on. Also, when I reboot the phone, I always have to turn the data connection back on. I don't think I have any 3rd party apps that would be causing this.
Anyone have a clue what might be causing this? Oh, I'm running Elegancia if that matters.
Thanks in advance!!!
I just installed the Kumar ROM and am having the same problem....
1 - Phone will show an "H" for the data but no connection
2 - Can't turn off wi-fi
Hosed..
edit - after a few hard boots it appears I am connecting to the internet for now!
my phone is stock and does this also. very annoying.
Bumping. i have the same problem. is this has something to do with "power save on" option in B&B tweakes or "disconnect after 30seconds inactivity"?
any thoughts?
I was having this issue with the stock TmoUS rom so I decided to finally face the fact that I would have to HSPL and go with another rom (Kumar)
...and its still happening
I notice that it only happens at home when I am connected to my wifi network...my phone will show either an H or an E one moment...then I look again and only have the (Y) antenna signal. It will not restore itself for nothing when this happens, I have to open the Comm manager and toggle the data back on.
When im not at home and have the wifi toggled off and running on pure tmobile data service, I have no issues with losing it...
Mine was doing that but after a few hard resets, it no longer does...
I'm on the bus right now and something similar just happened ,while browsing this site a screen just popped up saying data connection error, check settings and if the problem persists reboot your phone. when i went into comm manager data connection was off andwhen i try to turn it on it gives me the same message so i reboot and so far its working good
this problem is now happening all the time for me,anytime im on the internet, marketplace, wallpaper app etc... the data connection drops and i have to go into the comm manager and turn it on. does anybody have suggestions on how to fix this,im on the stock rom and dont feel like changing it yet.
If you're in the United States there is a known problem with the HD2 and the T-Mobile network. I called T-Mobile last week complaining about my bizzare data connections problem and the chic said it is a known issue. She then knocked the cost of my data plan off my bill and apologized for the inconvenience, sadly she couldnt tell me when the issue was going to be corrected. I've switched back to my G1 and haven't had a network issue since.

Date & Time not updating!

Hey all. For some reason my phone will not update the time and date automatically! I tried doing a reset but that didn't work. Also, the weather displayed "My Location" for a few hours after the reset until it suddenly clicked. However, the fact my date and time are not auto updating means I can't use Live Messenger or Marketplace which is frustrating. I can use the internet fine, I don't know why this is happening :S
Can anyone help?
What rom are you using? i seem to have this same problem, it dosnt update the date and time, i have to do it manually, its very bothersome.
i am using Duttys HG evo v2.7 wwe, i am considering changing it because of this problem, love the rom but this is a problem.
maybe Duttys HG v 3 will resolve this?
I'm using the standard one, 1.73 I think. Its kinda weird, never had this problem before.
When did it start to occur?
I noticed that on my HD 1 i had problems updating time and gps position when i was in colorado for some reason, the gps on my truck was fine, but the phone didint quite get the data needed. I was up high and in mountains, what about you?
Well I'm in the UK. I got my phone back from repair due to slow network connections. Now that's fixed (super fast), the date and time don't update lol. Happened since I got the phone back (yesterday)
Well not really sure about this one, being that i dont really know if the repaired a hardware of software component.
But anyways, try going to settings, then location and at the bottom there should be and option that says SYNC TIME WITH GPS, enable that, reboot.
Its worth a shot, if not just disable it if you choose too. good luck
I don't have anything that says "Sync time with GPS" :S
FIXED!
Ok, I figured out how to fix this problem. If you have windows mobile device center, start a sync between the phone and the PC. I noticed everything automatically updated (Date, Time, Weather) and everything is fine now, i can access messenger and marketplace and the SMS is ok. I am very pleased and hope this can help a few other people too!

Time changing to wrong time

Hi all,
Just a quick feeler
I know a few people that have reported the phone time keeps changing to be several hours out on its own, most if not all are connected to orange network here in the UK,
Is any one else seeing this strange behaviour?
Boyise
this is because of googles services i believe, use bsb tweaks to turn off auto sync time

I have the problem, and I too am on Orange UK, however with my sim card in an old phone the time updates correctly.
Hello. Same issue here, also on Orange. Auto time zone turned off, seems to have sorted it so far....
I am having the same problem. I am with T-Mobile UK but using roaming to share Orange network.
How do you turn off auto time zone? I don't have BSB tweaks installed.
I'm having the same issue.
The clock randomly changes itself sometimes by one, two or even eight hours. I have tried disabling everything I can find - such as HTC location service and internet time sync... I am in the UK on 3 Mobile.
May get in contact with HTC, but they're probably going to blame our custom ROMs.
EDIT: You should check out the other thread "Winter time change" - loads of people have this issue. It's been reported to HTC and a fix is due. The current workaround is:

I've been pulling my hair out all day, trying to fix this 'randomly changing hour' problem. I think I might have found a solution:
Go to Phone/Menu/Options/Menu/Network Selection/GSM-UMTS Services/Time Synchronisation/ and set it to unchecked.
My time has not changed since.
Good luck...

'Settings' -> 'Menu' -> 'All Settings' -> 'Personal' -> 'Phone' -> 'GSM/UMTS Services' -> 'Time Synchronization'. The select 'Get Settings'. 'Untick the Automatic change time zone and clock'.
Thanks hopefully that fixes it.
thanks for the info.

[Q]

Hey all
I recently got my contract phone upgrade and got myself the motorola defy
The first phone I received, as soon as it would connect to 3G or Hsdpa it would reboot, forcing it into 2G helped but didn't solve the issue, it would still reboot without reason
So I sent it back
The second phone I received and currently using, has been mostly ok, except when you put the phone into airplane mode and then take it out, the phone tries to connect to the network, it connects for a few moments and then drops, it then does that a few times and then the phone reboots
Forcing it into 2G mode when it's in this loop fixes this, it connects fine and then I can put it back to automatic and it connects to 3G fine
Is this software issue with the phone? Or some odd conflict with my provider?
My phone is currently running stock 2.1 Rom, if that helps at all
Hi
Had a similar issue with the first Defy Plus I got. I sent it back. Have seen some similar threads about this but no solution, sorry. I am awaiting replacement number three after the second one had a faulty touch screen.
Regards

Could be hardware related. I think that the initialisation of the 3g module is not working as it should. Maybe the power management of the 3g module is broken? If you did not installed any custom firmwares or modded the stock one I would give it back and ask for a new one.

Mmm... I think I will restore to factory default, if it still does it then I guess I should take it back, really annoying, for such an awesome phone, it sure does have a lot of issues
And it will be another week and a half wait for it again :/
Thanks
Well doing a full factory default achieved nothing
Think I should take it in
Thanks for the advice
