Prophet/JAMin/818 Pro/Whatever you want to call it..

Howdy, long time reader, first time poster...
I totally fell in love with the HTC series of Pocket PC's after my mate got himself a Himalayan, it's everything i neeed (read: want).
Ive spent the past few days reading through these forums and a few others on the merits of the magician. I like it.. i was totally convinced i was gonna get one.. then i stopped, Win Mobile 2003! :|
So then i saw the prophet and i've noticed there was quite a bit of talk over the previous weeks about it coming to australia soon.. Does anyone have any when? and under what name?
I'm planning on switching providers when i get my JAM or JAMin.. so one last question, does anyone know if any of the major telcos in Australia are bringing it soon?
I hope i dont have to settle for a Magician thats going to be totally out dated by the time im upgrading my phone again.

It's gonna be called I-Mate Jamin' expect around mid-Feb in Australia. Telstra usually deals with I-Mateso you can buy through them on a plan but if you want to buy outright...try calculatorking.com.au which bundles i-mate GOLD warranty (2 years + emergency phone in case your set goes for repair, 24 hour support)

So i did some research today and last night, spoke to many people about the prophet and alot of them have no idea it exists
Seems like O2 have no intention of doing a Prophet based device.
iMate customer service had no idea, so they put me onto CellNet (the australian iMate distributor) and they say march/april
Expansys says it'll be out in 4-6 weeks.
Everyone i spoke to at telstra/vodafone/optus had no idea it existed.. telstra say however, they wont launch the fone for a month after it comes out as they test all their fones for a month before selling them.
Spose i'll be waiting a few weeks or getting a K-Jam

Order from Expansys HK...they appear available within 3-7 days..

Just a guess, at least for our Asia-Pacific region - since Dopod & O2 are both targeting the same countries and markets, there would be a clash of interest if O2 marketed the same Dopod-branded HTC devices.
Since Dopod is with HTC, O2 has selected (or had no choice but to select) Quanta.

The "definitely true" was in response to to Ruxton's comment that "there are no O2 devices based on the HTC prophet". It's definitely true... because it is. There *ARE* no O2 devices based on the HTC Prophet.
My next sentence, the "guess" as you put it (and yes, it is a guess), was my "expecation" that O2 will not come out with anymore HTC devices.

Makes sense as Quantum are not new to the PC Market at all. You have to admit the Atom is a pretty good first start with a Pocket PC of this size, ok so there are a few niggles but nothing an update can't sort

There was a ROM update for the Atom already and that didn't solve much. It just made the device usable from what I've read. What is this then, a BUY IT NOW, USE IT 3 MONTHS LATER offer from o2?

Here's a thought... maybe SE will make us pay to upgrade to 6.5?

And then sell new Xperia's with 6.5 pre-installed.

It has the feeling of slightly bad news for us X1 owners. However, the device is pretty good and pretty stable, so they havent really ripped us off, have they.

Don't worry.. look at the windows mobile 7 trailer, u could see windows mobile 7 running on xperia maybe its just a screen but the xperia has a nice hardware and someone will make a 6.5 rom for xperia

Where will be in some years, every 45 days a new phone?
The X1 isn't a year old and the next version is coming.
Let's see what the "next version" will look like, but I don't think we will get a free hardware update

What is all the fuzz about? I do not want that dreadful looking 6.5 on my X1....
Plus, I will never pay for a WinMo upgrade. Ever.

Well, you know whenever the X2 is announced, you probably have upwards of a year wait before it actually is available for purchase.

we still have the brilliant support from this forum anyway for the X1....so in a way, we'll always have support for it

i think what freaked everyone out is how the R3A is going to be the last official update from SE...
btw itje, i know this probably doesnt belong to this thread, but do you know what took SE so long on releasing their R3A? is it because its going to be their last release so they try to make it as bug free as possible?

great, at least i will still have time to enjoy my baby, if SE designs a sexier xperia then i will upgrade, that's if they don't follow other makers and produce an iphone-look-alike...i think the xperia is still sexier than the coming tp2, so they better come 'hard' with the next version as they did with the x1

Absolutely. X1 is better looking than the tp2 and if they do the iphone-style-look stunts I'm gonna rage big time.
Anyways, what's with the rounded phones gayness these days?? Xperia design is ftw (except the recessed screen).

it would be extremely disappointing of them to release a bigger phone with less features. i'm still hopeful that it will have an fm radio.

Be sure there IS stereo radio and there always was. Vodafone just probably messed up their specs

Are we still talking about FM radio? Well, first - when was it the last time you've heard of MONO RADIO in a cellphone.. Second - trust me, prototype and as well the final version of X2 has the FM stereo radio. And I do not think they'll change the final version to über-final version

Absolutely. I have used it a couple of time while running and a couple of times for news, but there was one time that convinced me of its usefulness.
Me and a couple of friends got together to watch a football game. Unfortunatelly the game was abroad and no Bulgarian channels were showing it. We got it streaming on the net, but there was no commentary. So, we plugged my X1 to the sound system and listened to the radio commentator. X1 ftw!

I AM LITERALLY SHOCKED.
They gid rid of the x1 early and clearly had a huge ammount of problems with the x1 and the x1 was the only WM device they had at the time then this will be the only one again....
I guess they are taking a big risk after the disaster that was the x1!!!!

As an o2 customer, that spells the end of me journey with SE and Windows Mobile.
Since my X1 was stolen (insurance company unable to replace it, so have given me cash) I have been considering my options. Thought I would just get another X1 as nothing else came close to the form factor and the fact that I have invested in accessories for it too.
My friends have been trying to persuade me to go for an iphone. In fact my brother has given me his old X1 (minus the volume button) and bought the iphone 3gs. He's really happy with it, but then the X1 was his first win mobile and he is not in to the whole eco system, custom ROM's etc, so I never saw his relationship with the X1 lasting anyway
The X2 was my little ray of sunshine. For all it's minor updates it looks a suitable replacement. Maybe not an upgrade but hopefully a more rounded device with some X1 issues ironed out.
I can't go to Vodafone and not sure of the price of a sim free X2, so it looks like I am going to go to the dark side.
It took me about a week to get my 2nd X1 anywhere close to how I would like it. That's many hours of installing custom ROM's and applications etc.
Maybe I'm just looking fo something easier for a while. As much as I dislike Apples dictatorship ( I used to work for MS) I think it's time I gave it a go!!
Maybe with WM 7 and the marketplace, I will be back in the future - I hope so!

The Touch Pro 2 didn't have a radio when it came out...

Yeah looks I'll be forced to buy this directly from SE too,
but who knows.
In my country - PL - it was in Era = TMobile,
BUT they gave me unlocked, unbranded one for 100 Eur.
Maybe they'll give me this again this way, I pay such a huge deal.

Claims of WP7 from Tom_Codon march 2010

Well were coming up to to the month milestone of when Tom dropped the news of having WP7 running on his HD2.
I know I will get flamed for this, but I am niave and a part of me still despite no real proof being given, is hoping.
It would be great if we got some news/proof at the end of this month.

that's plenty of proof in my book imho

please people, let it go....nobody was gonna get wp7 on the hd2 before the news and so there is no difference if it was all a lie...
that said, i do belive in it, reputable people have said its true. just enjoy the damn device and when wp7 comes, it will come, and i would like to see a thread with all the non belivers apologising

I know some good reputable ppl have clearly stated that its true. I am not doubting them for a minute. I personally expected to hear or see something else since the initial statement. I do enjoy my device, I just love trying new things.

But thats just it, how can you EXPECT something from somebody when they dont owe you anything? you can expect customer service from HTC, or expect an official statement from HTC about wp7 (which we got), but you cant expect news about someones personal project...you arent paying them, they are doing it out the kindness of the heart and the passion they have for this phone...
well thats my opinion for example...i fix my friend's and family's computers from time to time for no charge. nobody can expect me to fix it in any reasonable time frame, nor even even expect it to be fixed at all, even if i say i can. if they do, then its really unnappretiative and its quite hurtful. alot of people did ***** about the videos of wp7 on the hd2, if it was me, i wouldnt even bother giving it to anyone, just on the fact that so many people grinded me down about it.

I think you have mis-interpreted my use of the the word "Expected" by this I meant "Hoped" or "Thought"
I do agree with you though, they don't owe us anything, and after the slagging off that some guys gave them, I would say F off to everyone.

ah ok, well yeh one can hope for it, thats all good! even i hope for it! well actually i dunno, when they said wp6 and wm6.5 isnt interchangeable made me decide not to go with wp7. but still, id love to see it! but even if they lied (which i keep stressing i dont think they are!), i wouldnt think less of them, none of us are really gettin affected and we have got alot from them anyway with wm6.5

yeah I asked him last week in a podcast he visited on ppcgeeks...said a lot including a test rom for tg01 which also makes a lot of sense. I've said on htcpedia that I wouldn't be surprised the devices we see in the fall are very similar to devices released LAST year with minor improvements in hardware (if that)
If the htc touch hd2 and the g01 were the true test devices that wp7 was based on, then as a developer I'd just go hey why do I need to make a new device? Use the old internals and I have a wp7 device. I think for early devices that's what is going to happen but again that's just my speculation on htc and toshiba. Dell et al probably have devices built from the ground up...
I mean I want to try wp7 too and its looking better and more fluid every single day that gives me hope that microsoft has made a better "coded" os that when unlocked will actually be more open than the devices we have right now. To get to that point will take time, but that's what xda is for. I mean zune hd is hacked, I expect wp7 to be hacked too. just depends on time and devices

hoping this conversation remains civil because so far no flames no claims of it was publicity and I said on htcpedia again why does a site like that need publicity it averages in US daytime 250 members per hour! late night 125! a site like that doesn't need real advertising.
We can't say its an april fool either that's come and gone. so the only other logical outcome is that it exists there are some issues (lo and behold tom said there were graphics issues)
so I am waiting enjoying wp 6.5

Does anyone actually know Tom or Da_G or ITJE? Could they ask them for an update? Anything is better than nothing.

I just don't see the draw towards WM7. I stopped using the iPhone because the locked down environment... even after jailbreaking. WM6.5 w/ Sense is the BEST OS and GUI that I've used on a phone. It has usability elements while retaining the functionality of WM. It seems to me that M$ is moving backwards.

Im with you 100% on that statement. I feel like M$ is turning into Apple.

I don't understand why you are talking like this actually..
Sure, WP7 is locked down OS with many disadvantages, I agree with that!
BUT it brings lots of new features and its going to have full flash support etc.
it's not all bad.. basically this whole thing is not part of this discussion!

I don't get why there isn't any news from tom_codon or any other people and why they aren't releasing it..
Sincerely, I'm not understanding why tom_codon gave the news of WP7 on HD2.
I mean... okay, WP7 HD2 ROM does exist, noone apart tom_codon and some other people has got it, but why are you saying to all that it does exist if you can't/don't want to release it?
It's not so mature and smart in a community where all is shared and that lives on the ROM sharing to say "I've got WP7! But you won't get it! Hah!!"........ am I wrong?

i contacted sony for the 3 time via chat
now i got a really nice person
he told me 3 things:
We will get more updates (for gb)
We will get the new ps store!
and last but not least: they are going to make a decision next week if we will get the possibility to chose if we want the ics update!
if sony agree they will release ics and we can chose if we want it

Crossing my fingers. I would love to see the 2.3.7 from Xperia S made available to all Xperia PLAYs (even mine, but doubt it, maybe through the PC Suite) Either way thank you very much nickholtus.

I've contacted Sony Support, I am extracting as much as I can lol.
So fare she has no information on the PS Suite. (Edit: She does now, she directed me to the PS Suite Open Beta blog post)
She has denied that we will have an optional update (Bummer, but because UK chat was closed I've contacted US Chat which may be out dated lol)
And she has no details if we will continue to receive firmware updates.

If you should get the same info from anotehr rep @ Sony please confirm it here, that way we can have confirmation from two different users. Not saying I do not believe Nickh post, just confirmation. Thanks!

Thing is we get this kind of information that gets our hopes up high and in the end the result we got from it is NOTHING.
TBH i'm not too sure about the ICS part cause Sony have officially confirmed the Xperia Play wont be getting ICS.

Good work nickholtus! Nice news, hope that'll also happen. IMO, XPlay owners should have the right to decide wether to upgrade or not.

i asked same question to USA support chat and:
"I currently do not have this information and can not make any especulations regarding the future updates that your phone may receive"...

Even without ICS, info about GB updates made me smiling and really happy. And even without ICS, these news are already GOOD!

I talked to a sony chat rep and the guy was a jackass lol didnt even know what ICS or the Playstation Suite is

talked to a new guy this is what he said
"Yes, we intend to release new software updates to the phone, but as for this moment it will not be upgradeable to our latest software ICS4.0"

Wonder how many times you're going to say this? We get it, you don't believe anything Sony says.

I would honestly prefer an updated and heavily optimized gingerbread build with an updated kernel than a crippled ics build.

Sounds like the typical BS customer support feed people in order to get them off the line.
I also very much doubt customer support is kept in the know about these kinds of decisions before they're officially announced.
